“Still Evaluating” The Lineup Ahead Of Sabres vs Avalanche | Buffalo Coach Lindy Ruff Pregame Media

Do you get any extra injuries or anything? Are you okay in uh we’ve got a couple guys that were we got to make a decision on them in warm-up where they can go. Are we talking illnesses or injuries? No injuries. Uh uh so we’ll we’ll evaluate. We’ve got 22 dress for warm-up. You talked about that you guys needed to defend better last night. So did Tuck. How How do you defend better now that you’ve come forward here to play the Avalanche? Well, I think if you look at it, uh, you know, the amount if you look at the first two periods, uh, we defended well. Um, the third period we got on the wrong side of the puck. Simple as that. Uh, you get on the wrong side, the other team’s going to have an advantage. You’re going to be chasing them. And I I thought there was five or six times where we just got on the wrong side. It opened up their offense. Sometimes McKinnon makes you get on the wrong side as much as how good he is. What do you do with a player like that? I mean, he’s going to get his chances, but what do you do to contain him? Um, you’ve got to try to slow him down. You got to try to get in front of him. You got to try to take his speed away. Uh, there’ll be times in the ozone that uh you’ve got to make sure that you have secondary support because if he beats one guy, you’re going to need the second guy to fill where where the first guy should have been. In that third period, you bumped Kak up to the top guys or his faceoffs just a big part of that. Gave him an opportunity. the faceoffs were he was having a great night and just thought puck possession try to get that uh those those couple guys that played with him um just try to get him to puck a little bit more because Mloud’s face offs were way down and chasing the puck way too much. What can you do with Tage as far as without the puck when he doesn’t have the puck? His numbers just aren’t good right now and you know what he can do but how do you get him there? Yeah, the they’re they’re not quite connected. they’re not coming to the puck. We use that term. Um, you know, they’re going away from it. When a when a player has it, you’ve almost got to over support. Um, instead of driving away from it, it’s more about making sure you come to it. Um, we’ve had games where we’ve been real good at it. Uh, I think on the in the ozone part for for that line, it just it’s going to have to be about moving the puck quicker. Uh you look at the lines that had success last night was low to high. Uh we got the puck net front. We got a couple great rebound chances. Uh uh we moved it east west inside the zone in a hurry. Uh that’s the type of play that’ll the numbers will go the right direction. Lindy, you’re now at the second half of your first lengthy road trip. Short turnaround after the Utah game. What does this team need to do to win its first game on the road? Well, we got to we have to manage the puck well, you know, in any back to back. Um, it’s about managing the puck and I mean, this is, you know, when you have a turnaround in the league or you’re playing back to back and your second night is is Colorado, you know, you’ve got a tough task. Uh, so manage the puck is going to be is going to be at a premium. Rosanne might be your smallest guy, but yet he standed in the crease and wins a battle last night and scores a goal. How does a guy who’s not big go into the crease, win that battle, and score a goal like that? How does he win a battle like that? Well, we’ve been shown a lot of, you know, a lot of opportunities that we’ve missed by not having somebody in that area. Um, I thought he did a great job of just planting himself, getting his feet there. Um, it it isn’t about sometimes it’s about being able to spin off, sometimes it’s about going around the back side of the net and planting yourself. Uh, and once you’re there, it’s pretty hard to move a lot of a lot of players, but I thought his determination was great on the play.

Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff spoke with the media ahead of the team’s game against the Colorado Avalanche on November 13, 2025. He mentioned that the lineup is still being determined as there are two players who were game-time decisions, the matchup with the Avs, and more.

  1. We defended well…then got on the wrong side blah blah blah there will be times in the o – zone blah blah blah. Dude, we are in last place—-and a bottom 5 team. I know there are injuries but this is a results driven business and there are no results to speak of. I am not interested in watching another depressing result.
