Helllllllll no
No, he’s exactly what we don’t need.
A trade for domas changes not only next year, but gives us a major boost for this year.
I’m all about it if Brad can pull it off
I’ve been bringing this up as a possibility for months but some have told me he’d be a bad fit.
He makes 43 mil.
Simons (28 mil expiring) and Hauser (10 mil) gets you to 38. You’d have to add some extra salary like Baylor and Tillman and probably some incentive like Hugo and picks, but you can make the money work.
No thanks makes too much money and I’ve seen him exposed in the playoffs too many times.
God no, he is awful defensively and every year in the playoffs he falls off heavily. I will never understand the draw to Sabonis.
He is a very productive player, but I don’t like his game. I think it translates better in the regular season than in the playoffs. I’d rather not spend big on him.
I have no clue why this post got recommended to me as a Hawks fan, but low key I think he would be a cool fit for you guys. Overpaid for sure tho
Interesting that the responses thus far are so polarized. I’m looking forward to reading about pros and cons here.
He’s far too much of a defensive liability to justify his 45 million dollars annually. Would much rather get someone like Wendell Carter Jr or Nic Claxton who make more sense money wise and can fill their role better
I’m a little concerned that he’s just too easily played almost off the floor come playoff time. He’s best when he’s the decision maker in an offense, and with JT he simply won’t be that
*big man hole*
He’s great but idk if he’s worth the money with his age and what the asking price would likely be
It’s insane that people are saying hell no. He’s a MASSIVE upgrade to any big we have right now lmao.

Way too much money for a non defending big and a playoff dropper
He is one of the best rebounders in the league, sets hard screens, brings desperately needed playmaking, and gives us a stretch big again.
But his defense is poor, post game disappointing, playoff production consistently underwhelming, and makes a solid chunk of money, he’s booked for another 2 years at nearly 50 million per year.
He solves a lot of issues, but creates plenty of his own.
No thank you. Awful defender
Too expensive for a guy that isn’t that good on defense
I thought about it myself this last summer
Eventually I found that I couldn’t justify the cost, like you can’t sink assets and then a 42 million dollar contract into a guy I’m not sure you can actually use in a top 10 defense, which I am pretty adamant you have to be to be a real contender
I just struggle to justify the risk relative to the cost
No. Not a rim protector, not a playoff performer, and makes $42M. Without giving up Brown or White, how do you propose we reach that number?
Simons makes $27.6M, Hauser makes $10M, and everyone else besides Pritchard makes $2.7M or less
Simons + Hauser + Gonzalez = $40.48M. So Sabonis would still be more expensive
You want to give up these 3 guys for 30 year old Sabonis? I don’t love it.
Please don’t use the phrase “big man hole”
Fuck no lmao
He is reverse Rudy Gobert you cant win a chip with his defense
Would be awful.
I’d ranther tank than try to win in the playoffs with Sabonis, even with Tatum. We won’t beat OKC, spurs, rockets, nuggets without an upgrade in at least 3 spots.
Even with Tatum coming back, I think we should be trying to miss the play in this year. We can’t beat this OKC or spurs squad right now. Yes, anything can happen but cmon. Tatum won’t be 100% and this draft class is loaded for the first 8 or so picks.
No no no no no
It would depend on the assets needed to be given up, but also it would be some bs to trade for him after trading away two fan favorites in order to get under the luxury tax
Regular season player no thanks
Y’all are crazy. He would be a giant upgrade over what we have. Only 2 years left on his deal after this year.
His defensive liability is overrated. His lack of a three ball is more of an issue. But we have plenty of dudes to do that, especially when Tatum is back. Fits our timeline of the Jay’s as well.
If all it takes is Simons, Hauser and Scheierman and we can get back Sabonis and someone like Keon Ellis, it’s a no brainer for us.
Looks like that trade works if we include Tillman as well.
We need a big but what about the contract
“Big man hole” is quite the phrasing
Please don’t say “big man hole” ever again
Sabonis can give a bad team high floor but I don’t think he’s going to take a roster to a championship, and he doesn’t fit our playstyle the last few years.
The Celtics need their bigs to do at least one of two things on offense- catch lobs or shoot threes. Sabonis isn’t good at either, and we wouldn’t take full advantage of his ability as a DHO/passing hub.
And of course the money- I’d much rather have a non “star” role player for half the price.
Too expensive.
I’m all set dude is buns
Can’t shoot the 3 and can’t defend. He can do everything else at a high level, but if you can’t do those two things in the modern NBA, you get played off the floor when it matters.
And he’s gotten played off the floor when it’s mattered.
I love him as a fantasy player but with that contract I think I’ll pass on him joining the Celtics.
The last thing we need is a big that can’t defend and needs the ball
Sabonis would be huge for us. I don’t think we have enough to trade for him, though.
He doesn’t play defense. Celtics don’t need a middling point-center who cannot play defense.
Cap space. The Celts have 2 SuperMax. Cant afford him
A big that can’t shoot and can’t play defense, no thanks
I don’t accept the premise that there is a “big man hole”.
I honestly don’t get why people don’t like him unless he’s too expensive he seems like he’d be really good for us
The new cheap owner would never do it, he’s not spending daddy’s money like Wyc was
Wish we could get him, you all would see how good he really is
The correct answer is it depends on what we’re trading for him and what else we add. If we get Sabonis, we need another big he can play off of. Imo he’d be a great PF. Imagine a White/Pritchard, JB, Minott/Tatum, Sabonis, and a defensive big can do? That’s a huge lineup and adds both rebounding and passing to a lineup that needs both.
He would need another center to play with though, maybe Queta and Garza can fill in adequately, we’ve been to the conference finals with Baynes and Theis starting before. We’re also going to need some bigs to help throw at Wemby/Giannis and I even though Sabonis isn’t a good defender, he can add a lot to a team that knows how to use him, unlike the Kings lol.
