Why the Commanders’ run game is struggling so much
Bill averaged like nine yards a carry against the Chargers, but then in the last five games, you know, they’re basically averaging about three. Um, are defenses just kind of bottling up the run game and saying, “Mary, Mariota and Jaden, you got to beat us with those receivers.” Basically, I mean, they they’ve been playing more man. They’ve, you know, loaded the box because there’s no real threat at receiver. Um, you know, they’ve now lost what, five receivers to injuries, um, with Burks now being out. Mhm. Um, which is insane. I’m actually writing a story about it. It’s like 20 combined games between those five. Um, so they they don’t have a consistent threat, Ste, so they can easily double, you know, Debo or whoever their main pass catcher is at the time, load the box, and makes it really hard, especially for, you know, a rookie back to find the holes. That’s another reason why I think Eckler was one of their biggest losses. I mean, he’s he’s somebody who seemed to always find space and he would add another threat both in the run game and the pass
Pretty easy explanation, at least to Nicki Jhabvala, why the Commanders’ run game has been struggling so much lately.
