NOT GOOD ENOUGH | New York Jets vs New England Patriots RECAP & REACTION | Week 11 2025

Man, so the Jets lose to the Patriots on Thursday Night Football 1427. First of all, credit Josh McDaniels. Josh McDaniels had an excellent excellent excellent day calling plays, right? I mean, you look at that Patriots offensive line, they were tremendous. They I felt like they protected Drake May just I mean, gosh, they just did such a great job. And you look at Josh McDaniels being able to pick up on some of the tendencies from Steve Wils. I mean, he just felt like he was putting Sherwood on an island, hitting guys over the scheming guys open in the middle of the field. It was just, you know, never really getting too conservative with the running game, never getting too aggressive with the passing game. Just this nice flow, this nice balance. Credit Josh McDaniels. He did a great great job. A+ A+ day night for Josh McDaniels here. And I don’t want to sound overdramatic here in regards to the Jets because let’s face it, what I mean what with the Jets were like 13 and a half point underdogs coming in. Everybody in the world picked New England to win this game. This was the expected result here. Like you’re going to play New England in their house on a short week. The Patriots are a nine and two football team after tonight on this massive winning streak and they kept on talking about it in the uh in the broadcast, right? Showing up the graphic. Drake May could very very well win MVP. That is totally realistic here. So, of course, it was going to be a tough test for this Jets team without Brillin Allen, without Garrett Wilson, without AVT and all these guys. Kind of a banged up Will McDonald as well. and they’re still trying to get used to this this uh new young team rolling out two young wide receivers in Mitchell and Mchi. No Quinn, no Gardner, no Michael Carter. There’s going to be a learning curve here, right? So again, I don’t want to sound over dramatic with what I’m about to say, but this loss, it just stings because you felt like given the context, just everything that we just talked about, just how much this game favored New England, there were so many chances that the Jets had right in front of their face and they could not seize the moment. They could not take advantage of him, right? I I mean, they took advantage of of opportunities against the Bengals. They took advantage of opportunities against the Cleveland Browns. Not as much as Cincinnati, but still good enough to to get the job done and walk away victorious. But in this game, I mean, oh my, like there were just chance after chance after chance after chance after chance to flip the script, to gain back momentum, to possibly create a big play, to create a I mean, the Jets had two dropped Drake May picks in the first half alone. I would argue three, but two for sure. Oh my god. I I mean, you look at the pass rush. You look at the pass rush for or the lack of pass rush for this Jets team in the first half. It was just I mean, you’re watching Drake May drop back. He looks so calm. It’s so effortless. And mind you, you know, Stefon Dixs is a good player, but it’s not like the Patriots have the Cincinnati Bengals firepower on that offense. It’s not like he’s rolling out AJ Brown and Devonte Smith. No, it’s not the case. Drake May does not have this, you know, ginormous arsenal of weapons at his disposal, but he’s able to sit in the pocket. You know, one of the biggest things that we were talking about on the defensive side in the preview video couple uh yesterday was if you want to have a chance in this game to shock everybody on the defensive side of the football again, you must create pressure. The Patriots have had a very difficult time protecting May this season. They were literally coming into the day they were giving up their sack percentage on the on the offensive line was over 10%. That’s bottom three in football. So you’re thinking, okay, Germaine Johnson coming off a sack, Quincy Williams coming off a sack, Will McDonald coming off of four sacks against Cleveland. We have to be able to generate pressure. Lots of press man bump and run getting wide receivers off their block. But it felt like the Jets were and Wilks specifically was continuing to try to get home whether it was with his front four or rushing five or six and the Jets just simply were not getting there. Yeah, you can talk about like the Germaine uh their the Germaine Johnson sack late but the Jets just couldn’t really you at that point in the game it just felt like it was too far gone. um the over and yes of course right if you just look at sacks alone that’s one thing but if you’re looking at how often is May drifting back in the pocket how often is he saying or you know as fans are we saying he looked uncomfortable there or he rushed that throw he tried to get rid of the football he threw it in the dirt he launched it out of bounds maybe he threw it too early maybe he’s confused with the coverage it felt very very very calculated and Again, credit Josh McDaniels here because he knew exactly what was going on. He knew ex exactly how to attack this Jets defense, but you just felt like defensively it it was just on full display tonight, right? We need an edge three. We need an edge three. We’ve been saying it all all season long and tonight is why. Right? You’re seeing Will McDonald kind of getting cycled in and out. You you just know he’s still banged up. he’s not 100%. You have Germaine Johnson first year coming back from the Achilles. Brady McGregor didn’t play. Uh Clemens just, you know, just kind of had like a classic Clemens game where he was, you know, he’s okay against the run, but just when you have him out in space, he’s just just like you can just get by him so so so easily. If you’re a running back, if you’re a quarterback, whatever. If you have Clemens in space, he just bites on every single thing possible. And then you’re looking at Tyler Baron who’s a rookie sixth round pick that should not even be playing in the first place. I think that’s one of the reasons why a lot of Jets fans here continue to suggest attacking edge in the draft, right? We have all these extra draft picks, you know, and and by the way, quick side note, this is a very, very, very good class for the edge position. I mean, whether you want to talk about in round one, round two, you know, I could sit here, I could do a, you know, a 20 minute side tangent talking about how much I love some of these players, right? Howell from Texas A&M, Ruben Bane from Miami, Roads from Arkansas, TJ Parker from Clemson. Like there are there’s a lot of players that I I have my eye. I like David Bailey. Uh would he be the best system fit? It’s a different story for a different day, right? Um point is the Jets really really really need help at at edge. We we we must get more talent there. There’s you cannot argue that. It is a fact. We need more pass rush off the edge. We need more We need more bodies. We need more talent. If Wilks wants to rotate these guys in and out like he does, we need more. And instead of getting too caught up like, “Oh, okay. Well, who’s going to be the quoteunquote starter? Is Will McDonald going to drop down to the bench and we’re going to have this rookie be the starter? Is that the smart thing? Is Will Mc, you know, is Will going to be irritated by it? Is Germaine going to get dropped down to the bench when you draft a first round pick and he’s not a starter? or is is that bad optics before just diving into all of that stuff like the semantics of it all. It’s it’s I feel like it’s irrelevant because of the amount of rotation that Wilks likes to deploy here. You know, it’s not like before in the past where it was like Germaine Johnson, Will McDonald, and we also had Bryce Huff and we had more depth on the inside and Quinn was was obviously here during those uh those solid days. So, we used to have a lot more depth there and for whatever reason, Joe Douglas decided to blow it up, just voluntarily getting rid of players, not bringing certain guys back. But, that I think was a major major reason why the Jets were so ineffective on defense tonight. You know, because look, if you’re sending five and six, five, six players at the quarterback and they’re not getting home and you’re playing man coverage on the back end with starting a rookie strong safety Malachi Moore and Tony Adams who’s a below average free safety yet also no Sal Gardner out on the field. Yeah, that’s not really I don’t even care who the wide receivers are. That’s not really a good plan of attack. You know, again, it’s just simple math, right? You want to rush six playman coverage and you can’t get home yet. Drake May, who’s again one of the MVP leaders here, is going to find the open guys with the corners backs turned to him. It’s just as simple as that. And then of course you have McDaniels working on the sidelines with May going over what they just saw in the previous stripes. So that to me was just such a big issue. But of course, we do have to talk about the elephant in the room, which is Justin Fields. And once again, the poor passing attack. I mean, how you just feel like Tanner Instrand is completely handcuffed with Fields as a passer. You know, running is one thing. I love Fields as a runner, him in open space. I get that, right? I I I I understand who Justin Fields is up to this point. You know, we are what in week 11 now and we’ve seen this over and over and over, right? Against last week Cleveland Browns, tonight against the Patriots, against the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos. It’s just the passing game is not there. And blame whoever you want, right? Blame Tanner, blame Glenn, blame the wide receivers, blame the offensive line protection, blame Fields. I think there’s a lot of blame to go around, but I do feel like just watching play calling tendencies from Tanner Angstrand, understanding where he came from, who he’s learned under, you know, Jim Harbaugh, Dan Campbell, Ben Johnson, he’s been around some really, really smart offensive minds. Um, Deuce, right, when he was over in uh, you know, in Detroit, you just feel like there’s more to Tanner’s game. there’s more to Tanner’s playbook, but it’s just not being shown because the of execution. And again, at that point, it’s just got to be maddening because it’s like, why aren’t we playing Taylor? Is Taylor that bad? What’s the connection to Fields? And I again, I I understand from Glenn’s perspective because Fields as a runner, as an extender, is solid. He is effective. But when it’s when it’s coming at the cost of you not being able to complete a pass or not being able to have 70 passing yards at halftime, no matter who you’re playing against, it just feels very one-dimensional. One-dimensional, I think, is a good word to describe Justin Fields this season. hanging back in the pocket, taking sacks, not being decisive, looking at open guys and throwing late, looking at open guys and holding on to the football, putting too much on the football, overthrowing underthrowing passes. You know, Fields was I mean, how many times have we said this? He was not a draft. The Jets did not draft Fields. They did not sign him to a five-year deal and then they now have to worry about it like Tua in Miami. He’s not on this hundred million dollar deal we have to pay him or Deshun Watson Cleveland, Kurt Cousins Atlanta. None of those things are true. What is the hesitation to potentially move? This would be I I think my plan of attack, right? I think for the rest for the remainder of, you know, this week and a half here, getting ready for the following week or the following game rather, Taylor’s getting QB1 snaps and I’m making that call early in the week. But I’m not going to completely eliminate Fields. I would almost use Justin Fields. how and Aaron Glenn might have actually been a part of this back in New Orleans. Do you remember how Shawn Payeyton used to utilize Taesm Hill just as this Wildcat quarterback as this weapon this you know you know quarterback wide receiver who could come in and you can call a quarterback power a quarterback draw. You could run a reverse to him. You could have him run wildcat, run RPOS’s, and still have him throw occasionally. Bring him in on two-point conversions, fourth down and goals like the third down and inches, tush push situations. You I would use Justin Fields is this just like the Saints did with Taesm Hill back in the day where he’s coming in and getting like, you know, four or five snaps a game. That way you’re not completely taking out his legs if Glenn is so tied to that. if Tanner’s so tied to that, I highly doubt it. But I think I think this is more so a Glenn executive decision. Just my guess because even when Taylor is in the game, he’s turned the ball over, but you just feel like there’s more life to the passing attack. So, I mean, it is what it is. The Jets are a two- win team and they lost to literally one of the best teams in football again on a short week. So, we can’t make too too much bit too too big of a deal out of it. I mean a part I was sitting there watching Fields I think it might have been at halftime. I’m like do we just fully embrace just fully embrace Fields as a runner and just hand it off every play just go Paul John Paul Johnson Georgia Tech right like 2008 and on right where it’s triple option wishbone offense run it every play you have two passing attempts per game or something like that. But no, in all seriousness, I would move to Taylor just to get a little bit more consistency, maybe get more of a steady hand. Uh, at least the ball you feel like would come out a little bit more. And then I would still utilize Fields as a runner. So, you’re essentially highlighting Fields, his skill set, his strengths. We’re putting that on display and we’re saying, “Okay, these are the things that you’re not good at. We’re not going to ask you to do.” And I’m not saying Tyrod Taylor is a top 15 quarterback here, but I just feel like he gives you the better chance to win. Uh, so anyway, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. Not really a ton in my opinion to kind of dive into here. You just kind of feel like it was just mistake after mistake, drops, poor throws, poor tackling, linebackers getting caught in open space, Sherwood especially, um, and not being able to rush the passer. I really feel like this game kind of just came down to those, uh, core aspects. So anyway, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. Thank you guys so much for watching. I appreciate it. It’s so late. So late. So yeah, hope you guys uh you know get a good night’s sleep too and be you know all good for work tomorrow and school tomorrow. So yeah, appreciate you guys and as always, Delicious.

  1. If Mitchell can get it together we are going to have a diamond in the ruff. With 6 targets he should have had over 150 yards but the drops and passes not getting there was a killer

  2. The Jets are trying to win without an NFL-caliber QB. You are right on with the Taysom Hill comparison. Fields looks like a QB. He runs like a superstar QB. He throws and has the processing of a high school quarterback. It's hard to stomach watching Fields play, but it's necessary to run him out there to guarantee a high draft choice. He's being paid 30 million to help us draft top 5 overall.

  3. Secondary is depleted lots of injuries and guys playing that were thrusted in this team wasn’t gonna be good anyway they’ll win a couple more games and be in top 5 pick category

  4. Not a JF issue. If the playmakers catch three or four of the balls that they should have, the narrative would be different. Please focus a little bit more on that and even the play calling. JF gives them the best chance to win if you put a scheme that fits him well. We know the games that he's performed well in, so we should know what we should be able to call and move forward with…

  5. You know I love defense. And if anything it showed me how inconsistent the players and Wilks are. Last week Adams led the team in tackles and looked comfortable at FS but last night he was poor in safety coverage. Sherwood, what are you doing? Respectfully. Im glad at least JJ had a sack and it sucked not having Will. Vrabel adjusted well to our stunts and exploited our zone defense. Offensively Justin Fields is probably the worst QB I’ve seen. Lightly. Tim Boyle had better moments than him. Yes we need edge bc Clems is a decent edge 4. Last thing, it wouldn’t surprise me if GW will ask to be traded this offseason.

  6. I think Brandon Stephens had a really rough night. It feels like the Pats had an automatic completion every time they threw at him. And he had that very costly illegal hands to the face penalty on what would have been a Quincy Williams 3rd down sack.

He had that one PBU late in the game but he got a little lucky. He was beat on the route and it was almost another huge gain.

  7. Are we going to pretend the WRs and TEs did not dropped passes tonight??? And spare me with the "oh, he put too much on it…oh, the ball was this or that…" If a WR or TE gets 2 hands on the ball, in the NFL, it should be a catch…those dropped passes would have put Fields over the 200 mark, excluding the running…And I'm shocked you're giving Tanner all this credit…go back and watch the game…the 1st drive was the smoothest I've seen all year…a clean drive…WHY go away from that? WHY not attack their weekness…Why not get JF out on the edge more and make their edge make a decision…RPO…move the pocket…get him out in space…I mean, that's what Drake did….broke the Jets defense down…when they committed to Drake, he would just dump it off….But since you give Tanner all this credit…WHY did he go away from what was successful on the 1st drive???? Are you able to explain that? The Patriots defense were on their heels…and he decided to go back to the lame drop back passing with bland routes….You have WRs running to the same spot…nobody is open…

  8. Justin fields cant elevate people around him
He and Drake Maye had the same time to throw the ball

AD drops sucked but in one he absolutely should be able to put it a bit forward, although it did hit his hands

JF can’t anticipate a throw/ throw someone open
    At least consistently

  9. They should work on Brady Cook taking over right away. I feel like the kid could make a 10yard pass and hand the ball to Breece Hall. That is all they had to do on this game. The team needs to play as a team every player needs to be told what there job is on each play. There is alote more to say but come on this is crazy. Fields is just looking bad 👎

  10. If this continues I want to see Brady Cook the 3-5 games this season. December because there is no value with starting Tyrod. We need to see what we have in cook- to fully assess what we have.

  11. Glad to see Josh finally getting his flowers. In the beginning of this win streak he was totally disregarded and forgotten, almost as if people didn’t even know he was there 😂

  12. as a pats fan i saw this as a trap game because its a short week. only reason i wasn't worried is justin fields. i knew justin fields can't throw and given how many sub 60 passing yard game he's had i had no worries about the jets . i'd have been more worried had the jets had a serviceable qb. i have no idea why aaron glenn insists on defending fields when its clear fields needs to be benched. why the hell would you give fields that kidn of money when he's done nothign to warrant that kind of money.

  13. Safety is such an undiscussed roster issue. Malachi Moore has been solid, but everything else has not been good at that position. QB, WR is almost a guarantee round 1 IMO. Round 2? DE, S would be a solid strategy. That rotational guy who can spell WMD on run downs and add some pass rushing is much needed. A safety who can cover is needed so badly it's not even funny anymore.

  14. I forgot Josh McDaniels was in New England. Damn isn’t this like his 3rd term after leaving to become a HC 😂
That being said look, let the young guys play. They just have to see what they have in them to see what they must do via free agency and draft. Just don’t lose 45 to 3 can they do that? 💔

  15. Drake maye and Josh Allen are going to haunt us for the next 15 years we are never going to thr play offs.
Clemons is awful I watched him get pancaked 2x.

  16. I’ve said this from the jump in the past, but we play entirely too much man defense and not enough zone. There’s no balance. Just a bunch of man and blitz, It’s too much of an identity this is what we’re going to do “live by it die by it” . We have one defensive turnover on the season for a reason and in my opinion it’s largely due to the amount of man coverage we play.
