Watching yesterday when the game became tight. You could tell players did not want to take chances.
So they just dumped the puck and essentially give the puck back to LA.
This team is full of capable NHL talent.
They just need to realize they can play hockey too. We’re not in the dressing room so who knows what berubes structure is. But if the team doesn’t buy in. It will be a long season.
Everyone idolizes panthers hockey. But they creeeped in to the playoffs by one point a few years ago because no one was playing well under Maurice’s system. Even Keith Tkuchuk came out and said “at least Brady’s team in Ottawa plays with heart and finishes their checks”. Everything “clicked” at one point.
We are playing like we did under Babcocks last season.
Treliving and Berube have to go. Also, everyone but Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, Robertson, Woll, and maybe Tanev, but at his age, might as well.
When there was talk of hiring Treliving and so many people were for it, I was horrified.
Just look at the mess that is the Calgary Flames. That is largely his handiwork.

I just stopped over and had a peek at the Montreal Canadiens Twitter feed. After the 7-0 loss last night Leafs and Habs fans should get together and have one big group hug. Some of this stuff is better than watching the actual games.
People over there saying the exact same thing that I’m reading over here. Fire the coach. Trade this guy. The team sucks.
It’s like there’s an instruction manual out there that people read on how to react when their team loses.
If you were to say that the Leafs were one point behind the defending Stanley Cup champions at this point in the season without knowing any team’s records, most of you would say that you would take that in a heartbeat.

I don’t think the Leafs have ever had to battle their way through it before because usually time runs out and their season is done before they do anything about it. In November you still have all cards on the table to do something, on paper this isn’t a bad team. Which means it’s mental, whether that’s strategy or decision making it’s clearly mental. Over 60 games to go in this season, it’s on the players to decide which way this is going to go.

Blow it up. Get a top 5 pick and start over. The only guys you keep are Knies Cowen Danford and that’s it. Everyone else is in play. For Matthews and Nylander of course we want a major youth package.
This issue is, and always has been, the players’ lack of tenacity. They sour on every coach, they put in 20 minute efforts a lot of nights, and they don’t adapt to any structure. The problem is between the ears, not on the ice. Now, this team is older and slower and can’t make up for the defensive shortcomings by outscoring them. Until the leadership of the team shows tenacity, nobody else will follow suit. 3 GMs and 3 head coaches in the Matthews era, every time the coach gets put on the hot seat. At some point, it’s time to admit you’re the problem.

They weren’t good last night. They got it to overtime without their best player, best dman, and both goalies, but most of the 3rd period they were just praying to get to overtime. LA killed them most of the game, but especially in the 3rd.

Remember like 12 years ago Ovi scored 32 goals and everyone thought he was washed. Then the coaches and systems changed and he scored another like 500 goals in his career. Turns out you can’t force a generational goal scorer to become a shut down grinder.
This is what has happened here, the team isn’t built to play Bérubé and Lalonde systems. It’s fitting a square peg into a round hole, we have the talent and the skill. The team is full of solid NHL players. They didn’t suddenly forget how to play hockey. Bérubé has never had a guy put up close to the point totals the guys here have. His systems do not promote offense and high skill. My concern with Bérubé is not the system he runs, it’s the lack of adjustments. Clearly this isn’t working, take a look at your roster and see what your strengths are and play into that.
Oh and fire Lalonde into the sun
