HC Sean Payton on Week 11 game vs. Chiefs: ‘We’ll be ready to go’

Good morning, Sean. Um, you said a bow after the Houston. Uh, we’ve got to keep working with his clock because it can get quick and I’m just curious what is the process that goes into trying to slow that down and is it a fine line given how much his clock helps him avoid the trouble in terms of sacks? Well, I I think it’s a plus and a minus. I’ve said that before. I think one of his great strengths is um is not taking sacks and and so the clock in his head relative to uh that sense of urgency. Uh I so I think there is a fine line of number one the depth of route you know is this a a longer developing play a sevenstep drop a fivestep drop a three-step drop and and what should be the appropriate appropriate time um but I I think that’s uh a much a much easier um problem to correct than the latter which is taking the sacks and historically speaking has proven to be much more difficult to fix. Thank you. Parker Gabriel, the Denver Post. Yeah. Hey, Sean. I I I guess maybe on a similar track. I’m I’m curious how much you balance the sort of obviously it’s a game plan driven uh in season with particular the quarterback. How much fundamental work, how much sort of drill work do you get in in a typical week? Obviously, not just with Bo, but with the guys in in that room. Yeah, I I think um Davis does a great job. There’s times where uh during portions of practice that they’ll work specifically on, you know, left off a three-step, left off a five, right off of three, right off of five. Um route specific. Um but uh look the the the challenge the other night and and especially when you look at the tape, there were a number of things that we’ve got to do better. We collectively as coaches and uh and we will um I’m glad we got the win. I just finished talking to our team about it. Um that was a big win for for us to get to eight and uh obviously we recognize all right here are the things we got to continue to work on to improve. Zach Stevens DNBR. Hey coach, after the game you also mentioned penalties um and that being an issue for the offensive side this far into the season. How difficult is that to correct and how do you go about correcting that specifically on offense? I I I think I think you can correct that. Uh and and we plan on it. Uh I I think look, you know, I there’s one or two a game that get called you look at and I’m like, yeah, I don’t agree with that. Um but that being said, there’s a sum total and and certainly it has to be a point of emphasis. Eric Dala, Denver Broncos.com. Yeah. Hey, coach. Uh obviously a long stretch there, the first 10 weeks of the season. just wondering how valuable uh this mini buy, if you will, can be for the team to gear up for a big one against Kansas City. Yeah, look, I I think um the schedule comes out, you play them when you play them. Um I felt when the schedule came out, the challenge would be um the Monday night Cincinnati short week Eastern time zone Philly game. And obviously Philly being a real good opponent. Um and you know to get through that stretch um I was just having this conversation earlier it’s amazing how quickly it feels like this stretch of six seven weeks have gone by and and you’re just in you’re you get in a routine. Um so having this u mini weekend especially with Kansas City coming off a buy. Um, look, it’ll be an important game. Obviously, it’s a divisional game. Um, and uh, you know, we’ll be ready to go. Andrew Mason, 1043, the fan. We’ll skip Andrew and go to Mike Cliff, 9 News. Yes, Sean. I was just wondering after digesting the the rough first half that Crush Shaw had um anything that you can attribute to that um and anything you can do I think we talked about it after the game. I I think the biggest challenge sometimes it’s not the ball hitting your foot, it’s the drop. And the wind picked up a little bit more. I’m sure it was a little breezier than he’s punted in those type of conditions. And so you when you watch those guys when they’re by themselves, all they do is drop the ball, drop to try to, you know, find a consistent and and when it moves, you know, when it hits your shin, then obviously that that’s that’s a problem. So, um, so I think it’s it’s one of those tough lessons learned. um he he’s got the ability to kick a different style punt if he ever felt it was windier, which would be a more endoverend, less dropdriven punt. But um but yeah, I I I think that uh it was crystal clear what was happening. Arie Stapleton, Associated Press. I’m sorry, my question was already asked. Thanks, Eva. Great. Thank you, Arie. And thank you, coach. That appears to be all the questions we have for you today. Perfect. Thank you.

  1. Sean payton needs to give up playing calling..his ego is the reason why were going to waste such a great defensive season. Our record is great but when you look into it, besides Eagles who tf have we beat.

  2. The routine was messed up last week due to the short week. No practice per se, just a walkthrough.
Not saying that made everything worse, but it could have. The guys were out of rhythm. Poor field position messed up the scripted plays. Not throwing much, so timing not as strong and throws off…plus the potential role of the wind in not helping the trajectory of the throws. Bad habits, etc. Today they're back and they've had a little break, which they needed. Just a weekend, but everyone needs that break now and then.

I actually hope the offense is a little mad at themselves. Practice with a little fire. Play with fire.

I don't know if they'll win, but I sure hope they do.

  3. I hope we get better on offense. Scary to think we have only beaten teams with losing records or back up qbs. Reminds me of last year and then we got beat up in playoffs. Hope we turn the offense around

  4. The offense isn't as bad as all that. They have scored a respectable amount of points and everyone can see they are CLUTCH! Go Broncos! Beat the Chefs! 😀

  5. Chargers worry me more than anyone cuz they’re hurt as hell and still winning. And since our offense is 🗑️ we gotta keep winning. If our offense still blows in a few weeks and we 1 and done in the playoffs, who do the almighty broncos fans trust more at head coach? Van e or Sean? I’m taking Vance all day, I would not let him out the building no matter what. Any offensive coordinator can do this crap. But Vance took Vic’s defense to another level. Do not let that man leave Walton group

  6. I hope that Sean has just been playing with a limited playbook to not have all the schemes in tape. Maybe he opens it up Sunday against the chiefs and shows the league what Denver truly is.

    Then again it’s wishful thinking

  7. Why is everyone so short sited? Everyone forget what the Broncos did to Dallas? Or 4th Quater against the Giants? Or What they did to the World Champ Eagles?
They blow out the Cheifs and All is forgiven, Close low score game and the World is over???

  8. Broncos will be Ok…Thank you D for carrying the offense…Kind of reminds me of 2015 when our D carried Payton Manning to a Super Bowl victory… Go Broncos get this Division This year and another SB for Broncos Country !!!

  9. Can we get some reporters that ask real questions?

What’s up with Colin Coward mentioning benching Bo? Did that come from sean they are friends.

Why did JK need to seek a second opinion? Is he gonna be good to go next week? I get it that he doesn’t answer questions about injury, but you could pry for something.

What are their plans for linebacker this week?
