Postgame Interviews: Brian Daboll, Russell Wilson, Brian Burns, Darius Slayton, Theo Johnson

Um, another tough one. So, with Dart, um, as he was going back out on the field, just didn’t just didn’t seem right. So, called the, um, trainers over and said, “Let’s get him out and make sure he gets looked at.” Um, so he went in and and got looked at and ended up being evaluated for concussion. Um, you know, 10-point lead there in the fourth quarter and, you know, give them credit. They made a lot of plays. Quarterback made a lot of plays, a lot of loose plays, scramble plays um and just didn’t get the job done. After that um the um um penalty Yeah. to the half yard line, I guess for him go to half. Did you think it maybe okay for here? Yeah, I thought thought about it. Um I thought take the points, get a 10-point lead in the fourth. I thought the defense was playing good. Um so Brian, we we’ve talked to you a lot about the number of hits that Jackson takes with running, not getting down, things like that. Is is this one where you feel like it caught up to him? Uh this is the fourth time he’s been checked for a concussion. He was sore getting up a week ago. Yeah. Um, yeah, it’s unfortunate, but you know, unfortunately he got hurt. What What is happening with your defense? I mean, it just seems like there’s too many of these late. Yeah, they made, you know, they made some good plays there at the end, Caleb. I thought, you know, we had him a number of times um where we didn’t get him down and he extended plays, which we knew he would. He did it in the Raiders game. He’s done in plenty of games. Um he did it the series before he booted out on the last series and went down and scored. Um you know it’s tough tough uh tough way to lose. Was Jackson checked immediately after the play that he fumbled cuz it looked like he hit his head and was Yeah. No, I mean they they No. Um no, he wasn’t. So if they would have called him down but when he was going in there somebody said something like what like don’t put him in. So you just to clarify you I did yeah coaches on the sideline but um yeah just took him out during those two plays you’re talking about like when he was back out play. Yeah I don’t know when it was Pat. It was in between a series so um didn’t think it was good to go back out there. Well, I said make sure you go get checked by the doctors and brought the trainers over is what I did. You say unfortunate like a lot of people would say well if you keep getting your quarterback hit like the the know the likelihood that something happens like this like obviously it’s the fourth time he has been check will happen. What do you say to that idea? Yeah, I just say it’s unfortunate he got hurt. Brian, I mean is this sustainable the way that he’s playing? I know you don’t want to dampen his competitiveness and you love his fire and all that stuff, but I mean he’s not 250 lbs and this hits that he’s taken. They’ve clearly taken a toll to the point where now he’s got a concussion and is going to miss time. Uh yeah. Um look, I’m not sure exactly the play that it happened, Connor. So, no, I’m just I’m concerned for the kid. What do you mean by that? I don’t know the exact play that it happened for him um relative to getting hurt or not getting hurt, but I don’t I don’t know the play. I don’t I don’t know the play. I I don’t know when it was. I mean, I just I just know that uh when he was going back out there and we were sitting around the huddle. Um I saw him. I I got Ronnie over there uh to check him out. Brian, will will Russell start next week if Jackson K? Yeah, we’ll see. I mean, right now we just had a had a tough one here, Connor. We’ll take a look at everything. Just to be clear, he went back out for the next drive for two plays. Are you saying you saw it at the quarter break? Um I Pat, I don’t know when I saw it. I just saw it when we were we were huddled up there. The coaches were talking and never put a guy out there that, you know, thought was hurt. Why do you think this team can’t finish and close games? Like what do you what do you see happening late in these games that you guys can’t sort of, you know, get it back? Yeah. Um, I mean there was a number of things today. So there was, you know, all three phases. Um, just going to get the job done. Jordan, will you feel like you have the answer to this turn around? Yeah. Yeah. But it hasn’t been. So, um, another tough loss. Why do you feel that way? Why do you so believe that? I believe in the guys we have, people in the in the room, coaches and players, but we lost another tough one, Connor. So, we got to start doing it. What have as some of these bad collapses late have happened, what have you tried to do to stop them from happening again? So, in other words, when you look at them, like let’s say Dallas, Denver, when you see a game like this starting to spiral, what have you talked to the team about to try to prevent it from happening again? Yeah. Well, have a next play mentality. Uh, you know, I thought Shane tried to mix it in, you know, a number of times these last couple drives. Uh, play zone, pressure, play man. Um, the two guy the two plays that that Caleb got out were man. Um, you know, there was a number of plays, you know, we had to punt that game in the short field. Um, you know, there was a number of plays. It wasn’t just one thing, which it usually is. Ryan, are you are you worried about your job at 2 and 8? Yeah, I’m just focused on um you know these guys in the locker room. You um you kicked the field a short field goal. You didn’t kick some longer field goals. Was that a um conditions issue, a a wind issue, a co issue? What what was No, I you know the one to belly I thought we had a good play. I thought KFK had a good play. Um you know had a number of fourth down and and one plays. You know the first one came down. We had a little pick play for Wandelle and just didn’t hit that one. Uh felt kind of a a hard play action to Belly which was close there. Uh in the end zone we hit the fourth and one to motor where he made a great play. I’m not not sure he would have had it but um ended up making a great play for it. Had to keep two. So we went for it, you know, four times. Um hit two and and didn’t hit the other. You’ve been in the locker room after these types of losses a lot. What’s your message after the latest one? How do you how do you keep getting through with these guys that don’t change? Yeah, you just got to, you know, they’re they’re tough losses, Dan. They really are. Everybody puts so much into it. The coaches put so much into it. The players, you know, and it’s painful when you have when you have these endings. Um, you know, you stick together and they know that’s what that’s what you have to do. But it’s not it’s, you know, it’s not it’s easier said than done. Those are tough, man. You put everything you got into it each week. Um, you know, whether it’s game planning, practices, thought the guys competed their tails off out here for, you know, the whole game. Um, and then to come up short, it’s tough. It’s tough. You say you’re worried about the guys in the line. What do you even say to them if they’re, you know, just that? Yeah, just just that. Yeah. Um, stick together. U, that’s that’s what you have to do. Um, but again, there’s a number of of plays, a number of things that that could have happened that that usually don’t happen when you lose the game or happen when you win the game and, you know, the guys battled, but just didn’t get the job done. How do you think Jackson was playing before? You know, playing good. Yeah. Dave, you guys have talked all about, players have talked about the emotional lift Jackson has given. Um, what was that like to see him have to leave? Obviously, you know, he was in the tent, but that to see that long walk as you guys are trying to drive down the field. I mean, do you feel like this team recovered emotionally from having seen? Yeah, you’re really in the moment, Art. You know, we um, you got to get ready to play and Russ had to go in there and, you know, have confidence in Russ, but never want to see any of you guys go down. talk about your the uh play down the 41 yard catch there with Russ. Yeah. Um you know Russ Russ gave me a chance and uh I was able to make a make a play, break a tackle and make a play. Um Theo was a was a big lead block right there and um it was a spark that we needed. Were you surprised you guys kicked the field goal from the one yard line? Um no. I mean take points. Take points. any conversation um as far as on the sideline or or from coach about going um going for the touchdown there after that penalty on that field goal? Um maybe a little bit, but you know, we we decided to take the points. Devin, are you surprised to be in this situation again? I mean, it was only three three weeks ago. You guys, you know, had that loss in Denver. Feels like we’re asking the same questions. You guys have to give the same answers. Is it is it frustrating to be in this same spot? Um it is. It is, man. you, you know, we go out there, we work so hard, we lay it on the line and um, you know, we just didn’t get the result that we wanted. So, what has to change? I mean, just got to evaluate that, you know, see what we didn’t the plays that we didn’t make and move forward and make those plays moving forward. You’ve been around Dave all a long time. What does this team still have confidence in him? Um, I would say so. I would say we do feel. First of all, it’s another heartbreaking loss, but again, you had something going on offense, especially yourself in the first half. In fact, I had you uh seven targets, six catches, and 71 yards in the first half. All three of those numbers either tied or set a career game high for you. What was it about things that were going so well? Yeah, I think uh Jackson and the coaches did a good job giving me my opportunities and I made the most of everything that came my way. Why did it not then carry over into the second half? And I know Jackson did have to come out of the game at one point, but you guys were never able to significantly build on the lead. Yeah. Um, you know, I think it’s really just sticking with, you know, what’s been working for us. I think we got away from some things. Um, and at the end of the day, it’s just executing the plays that that are called for us. Now, it was a little surprising to a lot of people who saw the weather being so nasty and it was kind of in and out the entire day, but yet you guys threw the ball pretty well today. How surprising is that? And was that always part of the plan that whether or not we’re going to throw it? Yeah, we knew all week um that there’s a good chance of there being some some weather that that was going to be so nice, but um you know, we practice outside every single day. Uh we were all kind of prepared for it. So, uh when it came, we didn’t flinch. What was that like at at the end of the game? What do you think kind of went wrong for you guys there? Well, I think that, you know, first of all, um, it was disappointing obviously seeing Jackson go down, but to be able to step in there and be ready to go. I thought the guys did well. Um, you know, being ready to go that, especially that first drive, you know, I thought Theo made a good catch. I thought B I thought, um, I thought Motors catch, you know, when he ran the flat and I got outside the pocket, I thought he’s going to score there, uh, going down the sideline and, um, you know, us getting all the way down to the one, you know, I thought that was a good drive and we we got to find a way to get a touchdown there. I feel like um and then you know they made plays they made a couple plays and um you know that was just unfortunate for us you know and but you know I felt mentally ready and all of us being ready to respond you know and fortunately we didn’t get to win the game. When did you realize that you might have to come in the game? Um after that after that drive um Jackson went down just I was trying to be prepared to go you know. Um you know you’re talking about when he fumbled. Yeah, you know, he he made a great effort trying to make a play. You know, he did a good job just trying to be tough and and all that. And um you know, I just was prepared. You know, the thing is you always have to be ready to go, you know, and so um I felt like I was really ready to go and I thought Cath um that first drive really gave me, you know, a couple really good plays early on and get going. Would you have liked the chance, especially after that penalty, to try for a touchdown from the half yard line? Yeah, I mean, we always want to score a touchdown there. You know, I thought we did a really good job driving all the way down the field. I mean, that was a huge drive for us. Um, you know, and I thought we did a good job getting down there, making plays. Um, you know, I thought the line did a good job being physical, that drive in particular. And, um, yeah, we we needed a touchdown there. Um, obviously we knocked the field goal down, which was a good thing for us at least. But, um, you always want to score touchdowns in this game, you know, that’s always that’s always the key, you know, that’s all what you always want in the red zone. But, um, knock the field goal down. You’ve seen plenty of good teams, but not good teams. What what is it about this team do you think that what does this team need to to to learn to finish these games? You got a lot of good things going and then just doesn’t happen. Yeah, I mean I think there’s been some really tough games this year um where we’ve, you know, taken the lead late or whatever it may be or have aid lead and um I think part of it it’s just fundamental execution. Um all of us, you know, making one more play than them. Um, you go back to the Dallas game, you know, we had two big plays, you know, 2 minutes and then 20 25 seconds ago. Um, guys made great plays, but unfortunately we weren’t able to finish it. You know, the Saints game was a tough one for us. We had that lead. Um, and just across the board, I felt like, you know, um, we just got to play cleaner football down the road. I thought we played a really good good game throughout the game. I thought, um, you know, it was it was good to be back in there with the fellas and battling and and all that. And um we had all the confidence in the world. We just got to collectively offense, defense, special teams, finish the game. How do you keep confidence in your coach and your coaching staff when this keeps happening, collapses at the end of games? Um I mean, you know, coaches all they, you know, at the end of the day, all they can do is prepare and call plays. you know, the the the players are the ones that have to do, you know, so um a little bit the responsibility and the onus is kind of on the players, you know, to to go out there and execute the plays that are called and and make the plays when they come to us. What about the decision to kick a field goal on the line there? Yeah. Uh I mean, I think, you know, we made it a two-point game or not a two-point game, a two- possession game. Um which, you know, a lot of different ways to see that, but you know, that’s the decision we went with in the moment. You know, I think it it gave us a chance there at the end to have a two-minute drive. So, you know, I can’t uh can’t really that. So, you you’ve obviously bring it up that you’ve seen a lot of ups and downs here. I mean, emotional punches. I mean, to to lose your fourth game with a double digit lead Yeah. on the road. I mean, can you even put it into words or emotions or or anything or is it just one of those things where it’s just really hard to Yeah, it’s really hard to to put into words, but um the bottom line is we got to find a way to close the door and and keep it shut, you know, when we have the opportunity to. Guys get hurt all the time, but like that was weird with the Jackson. He starts the drive and the quarter ends. Like, did you even know what was going on? like when did you realize that he was out and and Yeah, I I didn’t really realize what was going on to be honest with you until uh they said that he was out of the game, but you know, I think he he obviously took a hit at some point. You know what? I’m honestly not even too sure what he went out with actually. Concussion. Oh, concussion. Okay. Yeah. So, you know, he probably took a hit or something and you know, sometimes, you know, you go a couple plays, you realize, you know, you’re not okay. And that’s that’s probably what happened. What were they doing those last couple of drives that you guys just couldn’t get that last stop? Um, I don’t know. I feel like they made some good adjustments. Um, they were testing a lot of our rules, you know, in coverage, and I really feel like we bailed them out on a lot of our penalties. So, Ryan, you guys, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you weren’t done. You were crushed in Denver 3 weeks ago. Are can you believe you’re in the in a very similar spot here a couple weeks later? And how do how do you stop being in the spot? I don’t know, man. I wish I had the answer, but it’s like the fourth game we done um you know beat oursel uh in the fourth quarter put putting together three three great quarters and then coming and not finishing. I don’t know that’s a uh that’s a tough question to answer when you look at that obviously you’re looking within yourselves. Do you ever wonder I mean obviously the coaches are trying to give you send you a message right? I don’t know what Dave said afterwards. I obviously, you know, it was a pretty crushing loss, but is it difficult to to to maintain your confidence in the coaching? Not that you’re trying to blame somebody because you guys are making a lot of field making plays. I mean, they’re they’re certainly in question right now. Daves and staff. I ain’t really focused on, you know, anything relating to the future. I’m really just focused on trying to get a win, you know, trying to finish out these damn games. Um, that’s the only thing that really matter right now cuz we we playing good ball just not finishing and that’s the that’s the tough part. Do you feel like when the fourth quarter comes you guys are pressing a little bit or or certain guys are pressing a little bit because the the past failures are in the back of your mind? Pressing as in what? Forcing the issue trying to maybe play outside of the 111 kind of thing that um I’m not sure. Um, I think um I think there there are slip ups in in in in the in the 111th as far as like doing your job and that it really comes down to mental stamina, you know. Um, just being able to keep going and and focusing on what you have to do. Um, I don’t think anybody’s like trying to, you know, be Superman. But at the end of the day, if my bad here, my bad there from every every other guy, you know, ultimately ends in, you know, an explosive for them, like I said. So, it’s still self-inflicted wounds and shooting us in the foot. We’ve come back every week in practice, you individually have talked about how gone, flushed, let’s go. Can can a team ever be broken to the point where broke broken hearts or broken scheme? You just got to keep picking yourselves up and that can’t be broken if I’m on it. Um if I can help ain’t going to be broke. Um you know we going to stick together. You know we going to come back and fight man. Like I ain’t got no uh uh peachy. Um I ain’t got no give up in my body. Um you feel me? So if if I got anything to do with it, I’m going to lead the team. I’m going to try to keep everybody together and keep us, you know, focusing on next fight. But we got to keep swinging. How much more How much tougher does that get with each loss like this? What does it get tougher to do that though? It’s one thing to say, but then results don’t change. You guys might not buy in as much. I mean, I can’t speak for every individual man, but I’ve been in this league long enough. It is tough, but at the same time, it’s our job, you feel me? So, um, like I said, I I don’t got I don’t got that in me, you know? I’mma fight whether every time we got a game on Sunday, I’m fighting or whatever. This these losses as these losses pile up, there’s going to be a lot of um talk about Bryant Dave and his job security. Does this locker room still believe in him? Do you guys still feel that he’s he’s the right guy? For sure. As long as he in this building, I’m believe in him. As long as any of them are my coaches, I’m going to believe in him and that’s just where I stand. You feel me? I don’t switch up. So, what do you see? get the answer. What do you What do you see that makes you think that they can these are the guys that can get us fixed? I mean, we in every game. It just comes down to us finishing. And I put that on all of us. Um, put that on our star players, our role players. I put it on myself. You know, there’s plays I got to finish. I got to finish certain sacks. I got to get the ball out. I got to make the impact play, you know, to to solidify that win. So, uh, I put it on all of us, bro. It’s not just one person. And it’s damn sure not just the coaches. So, it’s all of us.

  1. Yeah yeah yeah he obviously didn't do a very good job players don't make plays either it's f**** roster sucks and Joe Shane got away with not being fired yesterday which is absolutely ridiculous both of you both should have gone along with the bozo defensive coordinator I might have kept it offensive coordinator cuz I think he's a good young coach

  2. I agree with the organizations decision but I do really like Daboll. I think he's a good coach but it just didn't work here. Sorry Dabs. Good luck
