According to ESPNs Power Index our defense is +2.2 while our offense is +0.5. They rank our D as #6. Only the Broncos, Texans, Eagles, Chiefs and Browns have better defenses. So our success so far this season is because of our D, we need to give Jesse Minter credit. He will likely get a head coaching job this offseason. Our offense is tied for the 13th best so slightly above average. But we’ve had lots of injuries on that side of the ball. However without Jesse Minters D we would not be contending for a division title.

  1. But we have also been sustaining drives on offense allowing the defense to rest. It’s all complimentary football. And long snapper is back allowing JK to punt well and hold well for Dicker.

  4. Ignore that they think the 5-4 chiefs have a God tier team and focus on how they rank the chargers.

  5. I think our defense is even better than it shows. Without Mack and before we picked up Oweh our pass rush was trash. Getting those 2 back elevated everything. Also apparently Mickens is the next and Reed or something.

  6. I think Minter gets interviews but unless we go on an epic playoff run led by our defense I don’t think he gets a head coach job this offseason

  7. I love seeing a great defense. It’s been years really (I know last year was a good defensive year too but I feel like they just overachieved last year. This year, it’s something else

  8. Protection makes everything go on offense. That hasn’t been there obviously all year. Hit or miss play calling adapting to injuries hasn’t helped either. Offense has been “good enough” but haven’t really been a threat all year, and has definitely been carried by the defense.

  9. I don’t know if I’d say carrying us. They’re definitely better than the offense, but the offense certainly isn’t bad.

  10. The defensive players deserve so much credit. Perryman, DJ, mack, tuli, cam hart stepping up after a rough start, henley, the rookies, etc. once heeb is fully healthy this could be the unit that carries us far. The less pressure on the offense the better

  11. Completely agree. It’s been nice seeing the defense get better every week. Was worried when the Mack injury happened but he’s already back

  12. Defense is back on track, but its important to emphasize that we’ve faced off against our fair share of bad/mid offenses. Obviously, you have to look good when you’re supposed to (something that was lacking under previous regimes) so its not a bad thing. Also they looked great week 1 vs the Chiefs (albeit with missing pieces on their offense).

    But you really want to see this Defense show up against the upcoming string of PHI/KC/DAL to really believe that we are contenders.

  13. Defense wins Superbowls. I recently went back and watched the 94-95 season, and our defense was insanely good, and despite Stan Humphrey’s best efforts, it was the defense that got us there.
    I’m fine with them carrying the day for us again.
    Who has it better than us?
