New York Islanders Postgame Availability | NYI at UTA (11/14/25)
in that game. You stick with it. Just what is that feeling like to score that time later today? Yeah, definitely. Uh, you know, big game. I mean, we uh I mean, we fought back, we fought hard. Um, I mean, I don’t think our first was the best, but we just kept fighting and kept getting better. So, uh, I think we deserved that win and, you know, ready back there. Uh, played a good game and I think, you know, all lines were rolling for sure. How did you guys find that comeback effort, that energy as the game wore on? Yeah, I mean, I I think we knew we had better for sure. So, um yeah, I mean I think that you know second and third we wanted to come out hard and then you know we got a great balance there um you know to tie us up and then we fought hard and then uh yeah I mean Barsy found me so um I mean yeah it was a great game and uh really hard fought win even though when you guys were being outplayed um really kept you guys in the game just how solid was he tonight? Yeah, I mean awesome. I mean you need you need someone like that uh to help you in you know games like these. So, um, yeah, I mean, he helped, uh, so much and, uh, you know, the team really fought hard for by your group to pull that one off. Just take me through how you guys found energy as the game wore on. I don’t know if we found any energy. It was a tough back to back, but I think what we did is we settled into the game. Uh, they came out hot. I mean, they had, our first period wasn’t great. We were kind of turning over a little slow to pucks. Uh, but then we settled into the game and, uh, kind of went to work. I think we kind of, you know, turned the tide a little bit at moments and, you know, had some really great shifts, had some opportunities and um couple big goals late obviously and uh Ry was Rudy was outstanding tonight. The atmosphere like in that one goal game and just h how solid was Riddick to keep you guys in it the whole time? It could have been 5-1 after one. So, um he was just so great all night. Um you know, they had some big blasts, some big, you know, off of passes, some one-timers, uh cross ice plays. the team’s a skilled team coming into the zone and uh he tracked a ton of pucks tonight. Uh and he gave us a chance and and we backed him up at the end. And for Schaefer to battle through and and get that overtime goal just how rewarding is that for him? No, he played a tough game. It’s uh you’re going to get you’re going to get hit every once in a while and um take a lump and he took it and uh but it takes a lot to slow someone like him down and I thought he I thought he had a great game overall and um you know after that happened he didn’t he didn’t show any worse for the wear. What were the emotions like in that third period and take us through your thought process on that challenge. Uh yeah, I think the biggest thing was is when uh pucks directed towards the net with the skate. Um it wasn’t going to go our way, but I uh it hit them on the way in. So got pretty lucky with that and um we’ll take it. Uh and then yeah, it was just a good tight game. It was a road game that uh we were on a back to back. Everyone was tired. Everybody had to play a simple game and I thought uh we we did kind of find our legs a little bit the last little bit of the game. And just three consecutive overtime winners for this group. What does that do for confidence going forward? I mean look, we have uh the guys going out there are making some phenomenal plays. They’re controlling the play and um even from the beginning Bo just winning the draw, you know, it keeps us it has possession. Those are big moments and um and uh we took advantage of those tonight. But I thought just the way that Barzy created some space there and Sha rolled into that spot. Uh saw that play develop and uh those guys made it happen. It was a great shot from Sha. Of course, the the mammoth came out pretty hard in that first period and for most of the game, one goal advantage, you kept the team in it. Just take me through the game from your perspective. Obviously, it’s not easy to uh to play back to back against uh that young skilled team. Uh they came hot. Obviously, we we knew we knew we knew what’s what that’s going to be about. So, we we stick with our game. Uh we cleaned some stuff. What we talk after first? And I think uh when we started second period, it was a little bit different team than first. As the game were on, did did you feel like the team kind of was able to settle in and and kind of find energy as the period were on? I think uh since start second period, uh you know, we we had chat in in locker room after first. what what we what we have to do differently or or what what everyone sees and uh you know we just change some little things and that lead us to to take two points here. What kind of confidence does the team build upon when you’re killing you know power play after? I know they got the five on three but everything else was clean for the most part. Well, I I personally feel we have we have a lot of confidence in our in our kill. Obviously, we changed that this year and uh you know, nobody expect it’s gonna it’s going to be perfect at right away, right? So, I’m I’m glad we’re do we’re doing a progress. Uh the guys are doing unbelievable job blocking shots, know where we are. Everybody knows who who he covers and uh what’s what’s his uh what’s his uh play on that on that kill? Just, you know, thoughts on on Schaffefer’s efforts tonight and pulling that off in overtime? He’s a great player. Unbelievable. Uh I don’t I don’t think I I have to say much more in uh 18 years old kid uh playing that way uh with that much of confidence tells you just everything. What do you need? Just a effort from your group all night for Schaer to pull that one off. What are your thoughts on that? Well, you know what? Um we didn’t had a very good first period, that’s for sure. And like I said to the guys after the first, not because we have a a bad first period means we have to lose the the hockey game. And I’m so proud of them because they came back in that second and we start, you know, placing puck behind their D. We managed the puck so much better. Um and um that kept us I thought we got some momentum out of that second period. And um in the third I mean we got a goal by Joe Dwine which was a big one and and again the threeon three served us very well. It was a great play by Barzee and a nice pass to Sha and that’s a nice one-time. So that was a I think it was a character win in a way that we we we found a way to win a hockey game where you know things were not going our way at the beginning. You mentioned yesterday that when the PK is is going that strong, it gives you confidence to challenge plays. Take me through your thought process tonight in that third period. Yeah, it was bad luck. I mean, give a threeon five and that’s I mean, they got a lot of talent on the other side. I mean, they made I think they Gunther made a great shot. Beat beat David by the way. David was outstanding in that game. gave us a chance and and to to stay in that game in that first period making like a lot of good saves and even in the third period on the penalty killing. But you’re right. I mean, if if if you’re capable of killing those those penalties, I feel like it gives you some momentum and and believes that you could come back in that game. And obviously right now, I mean, our PK is playing really well and our our goalenders are making really important save at the key moment for us as well. So there’s there’s a huge commitment. And I mean the players gave the the player of the game to P and he deserve it because I thought he had a strong game. I mean he played really well defensively and offensively was supporting at times and and I thought that he blocked a lot of shots, had big responsibility. So all Rard played really a good game after a slow start for us. Sorry. What were you thinking as they’re reviewing the druin goal? You know, you you saw the replay of it. I didn’t I wasn’t too sure and I don’t even know what was the final say on this one. I think it’s because he hit their guy and he made a play and that went in. But um you cross your finger, you hope that it’s going to turn in your favor. But I didn’t thought Joel meant to kick it towards the net. That was from what I saw. But listen, I’m I’m just the coach here. What does it say about the grit of Schaefer just taking a couple lumps from that game? Uh going down a couple times and then getting that goal. I didn’t really see that hit. I’m going to look at it on the plane going to Colorado, but um I guess like everybody, we were a little afraid that something bigger happened and it was nice to see him be back to the game. Go ahead. What does three consecutive overtime wins do for this group? Well, I mean, if you look at the last two, um, trailing in in in that those two games and coming back and tie the game and win an OT, I mean, I thought that was, uh, that was that was that was good for us and I think it’s good for our confidence and I feel like I felt like some swagger in that third period. I felt like we were confident that we could come back in that game. So, despite the fact that, hey, this is not an easy trip. I mean, come on. We we were in Vegas last night. We got in late and then uh back to back they were waiting for us. They had a solid start and and I thought that’s that’s a lot of character. Does uh Tony maybe have to just control his emotions a little bit better there at the end? Well, yeah, we we we we don’t support that. I mean, definitely not. But hey, it happens. I mean, um, we don’t we don’t want to, you know, have those situation with the referees and, um, yes, he’s going to have to do a better job in that regard, but he knows that and he’s a smart player and he knows he and I’m sure he

Amazing resilience. I had come to terms that we would be too tired to win this game, but we kept on fighting, and somehow Utah tired more. Great OT from the guys. And Rittich held the fort, just like Sorokin has done.
Lee was SPOT on there. Big Save Dave was Terrific
They never gave up. Goaltending won it!
