Jets Fan Rich Eisen on Team Falling to 2-8 and Justin Fields’ Future in New York
Hey. Um, on the opposite side of a 9-2 Patriots team is a 2-8 Jets team. Now, on the opposite side of a Patriots franchise that went ahead and hit at their quarterback, third overall is a team that is still reeling from missing from their most recent second overall choice of a quarterback and Zack Wilson, then Aaron Rodgers, now Justin Fields. Uh, that’s what happens. Trust me, the Patriots will not be looking to see if there is a 40-year-old quarterback that can u take an otherwise playoff ready team to the playoffs a couple years from now cuz they hit on Drake May. They also won’t be kicking the tires on a $20 million a year quarterback once upon a time drafted in the top 12 of his draft in Justin Fields because Drake may hit. And Justin Fields now, many games into his Jets career, he hasn’t played all 10 games, is quarterbacking a team that is without Garrett Wilson now on injured reserve and was out with and he was basically their only weapon on offense out, you know, at the receiver position. Anyway, he now falls to 2-7 with the Jets, 16-37 in his National Football League career. That is the third worst win loss record by any quarterback to make at least 50 starts since the merger behind Archie Manning and David Carr. And uh you know, win loss, we know kind of a fagazy record anyway for quarterbacks. But here’s this one, and it’s not just on him. It’s on the fact that unlike what the Patriots have done with Drake May, the weapons for the Jets around Justin Fields not as good. With all due respect to Garrett Wilson and Bree Hall, the Patriots have more than just one receiver in a multiply talented running back. The Jets now have averaging 139.9 passing yards per game this year. That’s the lowest the league has seen seen since the 2022 Bears had 130.5 passing yards per game. There’s one similarity as we all know. It’s the quarterback. It’s a quarterback driven league. It’s unfair to just lay it at the feet of one person. Yes, the Jets went ahead and traded away Sauce Gardner and Quinnon Williams, but defensively wasn’t a reason why in many ways they lost the game last night. They lost the game because they make too many mistakes. And their quarterback is a much better runner than a thrower. And that’s the way that they run their offense. And why not? Because he’s a much better runner than a thrower. You could say the reason why he can’t throw it is because the receivers aren’t any good. AD Mitchell had a step on uh Christian Gonzalez last night and Fields threw a terrific pass that he dropped. And then there was another route where AD Mitchell was wide open and Fields missed him. That’s what happens when you’re a 2-8 team. The good plays aren’t taken advantage of over and over and over again. And that’s how you wind up 2 and eight wondering who the quarterback of the future is, unlike the team that is now 9 and two that beat you last night. And then there’s the case of, you know, what do you do with your draft choices? That’s next. Once again, here you are Jets fans and during week 12 and you’re like, “But at least we’ve got all those draft choices the next two drafts.” Okay. And in the meantime, this is the issue for finding out if Fields is the guy, if they still have an open book on him. Here’s what Aaron Glenn had to say last night after the first series looked terrific in which Fields ran the ball quite a bit. He had more rushing yards than passing yards in his first drive. This is what he had to say about the offense. Well, the thing is we don’t want to make a habit of our quarterbacks just continue to run because we can put them in harm’s way. Um, but the thing is the plan was to get the ball and I wanted to get it first and I want I want the offense to get the ball first. And the reason why is when you look at how they operated, they’ve had six times their defense on the field. It was three touchdowns and and two field goals. So, I felt like if we get a fast start, we’ll be in a good position. Um, and Justin ran the ball quite a bit. You know, the thing is, man, we we can’t put just in a situation where he’s a running back, and I think we all know that because we’ll put him in harm’s way. So, um, but he did a good job. I mean, you’re right. He did a good job on some of those runs. We just have to be very calculated on when we do those things. Yeah, it’s smart. Just take a look at what the Giants have done with Jackson Dart and his availability for this week. Not available. You know, who’s also not available for this week for the Giants? The head coach there. Wow. That’s the truth. You mean a former head coach, right? Yeah. Listen, uh, at least you’re seeing some guys who weren’t quitting. You didn’t see guys in green quit last night. No, no, no. I don’t think so. I don’t think so either. They’re just not as talented as the team across the way. And they were both in the same boat of like, who the hell is our future quarterback? It just seems every time the Jets choose one in the draft, doesn’t work out. And then they’re back to square one. square one again. And the Patriots drafted one, didn’t work out, went back to square one, hit it, not with the coach in the first year, but with the quarterback, and then they got the coach right. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. Check us out every single day streaming live on Disney Plus and the ESPN app 12 to 3 Eastern.

Fields is a bust yet next year he'll still have a job in the NFL, even if its just as a back-up making $5-10 mil a year.
Man, it’s been a rough 15 years for Jets fans. All a team needs is a pretty good QB and pretty good HC to be competitive. But year after year they just can’t get that right. Although they had a healthy Rodgers for 1 season and they stunk then too, so maybe they’re just cursed
The only common denominator for all of the Jets failure is ownership. This will continue as long as Woody Johnson and his heir are making the decisions.
All they need to do now is win another game or two and fumble the 1st pick
Justin is on his 5th offense 50th receiver. Justin will prove the doubters wrong.
Desmond Ridder iz a guaranted good back up but id start him anyway
I really thought Fields was going to be better every stop of his career. But I’m finally convinced he likely has a bad mentality and hurts locker rooms. Not to mention likely tough to coach.
What's funny is NOW people are speculating that Fields is a historically bad QB. Fields is the same trash QB he's always been. Anyone who actually knows sh*t about football could see that early on.
He was potentially one of the worst QB's in NFL history back in CHI. That was already statistically a truth.
PIT gave him money, NYJ gave him money…
Are there any other similarities between PIT and NYJ?
Justin Fields is who they all thought Lamar was
Nice guy, but he isn’t an NFL quarterback.
This is good as ELITE QBS ALWAYS CAN WIN GAMES BY THEMSELVES!
TANK FOR ELITE QB IN 2026 DRAFT!
Justin would make for a a great 'Taysum Hill' gadget player. I could even see him play safety or nickel and do well. Would be interesting to see if he ever makes this shift in his career.
One of the biggest mysteries in football is why teams still think Justin will blossom into a great QB. This is wasted time fellas.
The Jets could get Kyler Murray from the Cardinals for a couple of 2s, or try to pry Dak Prescott from the Cowboys for a couple of 1st rd picks.
Heck, at least they’ll know what they are getting and just load up on other pieces.
Fields could have had a career if he wasn't drafted by the Bears. He had 3 coaches in 3 years, all who didn't want him. Didn't develop at all. He had no big star receiver or young talent.
He was 4-2 at the Steelers and benched for no reason.
Now he's at a consistently awful jets throwing to a bunch of WR4s like reynolds and lazard….
Patriots also hit on Vrabel as their head coach. That is probably the most important move they made. Doesn't help that Woody Johnson, Jets owner, got an F rating from the Jets players on the scorecards.
I wanted Fields to succeed, to improve as a passers when he was a Bears.
I wanted him to succeed when he got unceremoniously traded away.
I don't see it happening..
Doesn’t help Justin Fields that the Jets receivers keep dropping passes.
Justin Fields is not a good QB 3 teams 3 failures, he would not be a good backup, get rid / move on
I don't know if you look at comments or not. If you do, you got it all wrong like most NFL pro commentators do. If the Jets would have drafted Drake Maye he would end up like Sam Darnold. I had no interest in football until I was hired to do a consulting job in Boston for IBM. While there, friends introduced me to flag football and gave me a crash course football that made me a convert, and a Pats fan. Way before TB12. You lot are missing the most important person responsible for their success. Robert Kraft. It is all a matter of culture. The Pats had a bad patch, the owner realized the BB era had gone stale and decided to move on, mistakenly he chose a stale replacement, didn't dwell on it and got the person who actually started the decline. This is, unemotional, non impulsive culture. The Jets, the Browns, the Titans, even the Bills, don't have it. The Chiefs, the Ravens, the Steelers and Pats have it. You figure out the rest.
Got a laugh out of me regarding who else isn't available for the Giants this week
The only time Fields was in a good team he was 4-2. He isn’t great but he isn’t quite the bum his stats might say. Having said that, NY needs a legit franchise guy.
Jets fans should be running Woody Johnson out of town. He may take the team to London, but get real. That’s a net benefit for NYC and the North Jersey area.
The Jets could have all 32 1st round picks and would still F lt up…they are the JETS
The JEST have weapons🤔😄
Keep Fields in a wild cat and play cook!
