Steph Curry on why his partnership ended with Under Armour:

“Just in the best interest of both parties… The sneaker industry is difficult.”

  1. I wish Steph would’ve left years ago.

With that being said, I’ll be very interested in where Curry Brand lands.

  2. UA squandering Steph as an athlete should be studied. They have so many opportunities to market Steph and failed again and again. The sneaker line which started well got worse and worse. Thank god he is detached from them now, end of an error

  3. Look at who UA is mostly worn by and marketed towards to. Complete polar opposite of Steph and the NBA

  4. There’s very few nba global icons and Steph is one. So if this off court brand including shoe merchandise isn’t there…that’s a giant fumble

  5. Crazy week for Nico lol wasn’t he the one of offended Steph when he worked for Nike?

  6. It’s honestly for the best. UA gave Curry his start and I’m sure he’s more than grateful for that however over the years they’ve done nothing to promote him for the caliber for player he is.

After the 22 championship Curry Brand had to partner with Shoe Palace for the Night Night shirts. Even after that UA did nothing to capitalize on the Olympic run he had.

  7. I hope who ever gets him does his first shoe the best on the market. Make up for under armor terrible absolutely terrible designs. And colorways

  8. Under Armor is the lamest active brand anyways. It’s basically a house brand for TJ Maxx as far as I’m concerned.

  9. Underarmour should fire their entire marketing team. Because they have been utter crap for years. One of the most shocking things was when Curry had those golden daggers in the Olympics finals – UA did not do anything, they didn’t even acknowledge it, as far as I remember. And then they complain that their sales weren’t going as expected and whatever, meanwhile people were and are willing to buy the Curry products, but when they don’t promote s*it as well as most of the stuff was only available to Curry himself, I mean come on
Just think about what would have Nike done if LeBron hit those daggers instead – we would have had nationwide Nike parties, with all kinds of merch and stuff…

  10. Under Armor is a failing company and couldn’t afford to re-up with the Curry brand if they wanted to (and Steph isn’t going to let his brand go down with their ship.) Current stock price is <$5, well off peak after Curry signing, and without big changes with their brand, this could seal their fate.

  11. I’ve never seen a single person wearing his shoes (besides him). The only place I’ve seen his shoes in public is on the shelves at Ross.

  12. There should be business school case studies about how bad Under Armor fumbled its brand. Used to be worth $26B+ a decade ago, now $1.9B. Signed the biggest stars across all sports but did nothing to market them. Hired the worst designers in the business and released one underwhelming shoe after another. Refused to listen to customer feedback. Good riddance I guess. Curry brand with actual competent backing (Nike I hope) has the potential to be fire.

  13. I remember when Steph hit the Celtics with the now iconic night-night in the NBA Finals and we couldn’t get a single “night night” T-shirt from Under Armour for YEARS.

NIKE would have had a full commercial on TV and shirts in the locker room 5-minutes later.

What makes UA insufferable is that Steph when pulled off the same miracle in the Olympics and UA sat on their asses.

  14. I’m forever bitter we never got Night Night shirts right after that 4th ring. That’s when I knew UA was a joke.

  15. Nike and Reebok have made dope shoes for every one of their player brands, even Ja has a dope shoe

The UA currys all being ass is crazy

  16. Did a project on under Armour and their strategy in business school. They definitely squandered opportunities with Steph and other athletes. They made some bizarre strategic decisions like purchasing MyFitnessPal and tried to go the digital route.

Tbh they got very lucky to sign Steph in the first place but now they’ve lost so much marketshare, I would exit basketball altogether if I were them.

  17. As crazy as it sounds, I wonder if he would sign with Reebok. He has a relationship with SHAQ and Allen Iverson. Him and SHAQ executive produced Iverson’s documentary and he has the chance to really be a gave. I doubt they have the marketing budget for him though, but they are trying to make inroads into basketball after years of being pushed out during Adidas acquisition of them. They would likely have had a chance to go after Derrick Rose back then, but Adidas relegated them to Crossfit.

  18. Shoutout to my guy Kent Bazemore convincing Steph to sign with UA.

I have quite a few UA pieces thanks to that. lol.

  19. Too many signature sneakers, the market is too saturated.

There is virtually zero unique designs nowadays.
