  1. Cheap centre depth, good faceoff guy, too. Toronto used to use him at the start of OT to win faceoffs, for those who don’t know.

  2. I’m looking forward to this. He’s supposed to be a solid defensive 3C, which should put reichel back on the wing where he belongs, and should free up 40 for more offensive zone draws.

  3. A 4th line player that will automatically be our second line center but we really need this guy. Petey needs help in the center department. Reichel, Sasson, and Raty are borderline NHL players but we know this guy is. With Blueger back soonish, it’ll be nice to have two defensive centers and at least not have Petey out there first to kill a penalty.

  4. I’ll take that. Who comes out? That’s not my job! I’m just happy Petey gets more offensive draws now

  5. Dude is a PK specialist and for 1.1 it isn’t horrible for a 1 year. Our PK is tied for the worst in the league so it definitely is a nice bandaid fix. But again not a needle mover, nothing that’s gonna change the team much but a nice little change for sure.

  6. out of the loop on this one but if this is supposedly good for petey and for our pk then what the hell sure

  7. I made a comment on Kampf 27 days ago.  I expected this move but Reichel came via trade first.

Once everyone is healthy (assuming Reichel plays the wing, Chytil LTIRetires) the center depth should be

    EP40
    Raty
    Blueger
    Kampf
    Sasson

  8. I don’t care if you’re pro rebuild or not, this signing is unequivocally a good thing for this team!

Is it hilarious and sad we’re lucky to have David Kampf slot in instantly as our 2C? Yes, but whatever

  9. Sure, it’s not a big move but given their current position and lack of depth at C, it makes sense to bring him in.

While Kämpf doesn’t offer much offensively, he does play very well defensively and the Canucks can utilize his deployment to lessen the burden on Pettersson for defensive zone face offs.

It’s another storyline to pay attention to next game and at least brings some intrigue to an otherwise predictable outcome. Rome wasn’t built in a day and this will continue to allow the Canucks to wait until more options are available both internally and by acquisition.

Welcome to the Canucks Kämpf. I just hope this market doesn’t cannibalize you the way they always seem to. Give it a chance FFS.

  10. A move that doesn’t cost anything but money, and if they tank might be worth a low pick at the deadline. Good free move.

  11. So sick of this fanbase. For all the naysayers, please tell me why you are so happy to keep icing 3 C’s that totals less than 3 seasons combined as NHL centers. There’s like 400 games combined in our 2-4C and most of those are Reichel’s as a winger.

This is a needed signing to help the team. It will help PK and take some defensive weight off Petey. Is it going to solve the team? No. Would you rather they do nothing? This is a zero risk move. No assets moved. One year term.

Bitch about how we got into this situation. This move is fine given the circumstances. I hope our fans never let this negative fanbase get on them. Hopefully, they’ve all closed their social media accounts to avoid this stuff.

  12. Great signing. No risk 6’2’ 200lbs center. (at NHL scale)

All he has to do is not be a defensive liability and lay out the rats of the NHL and he’ll be a Canucks sweetheart.

If he takes any defensive zone faceoffs and takes that weight off Petey, that’s gold.

If he scores, that’s just surplus value and cherry on the cake.

The bar is low for him I think. Hopefully he hits one of these levels.

Hate to see the depressed doomers in this thread. It’s not a blockbuster signing, but it’s a good one nonetheless the less that adds size down the middle.

The goal is probably to mould him into an even stronger defensive center, and we have the right personnel for him to elevate his game there. Comes in at around 51% in FO too, watch that rise to 52-53% with Manny.

We need defense from Kampf and for him to not be a defensive liability. Him at the net front would be something really fun to see too.

  13. I think the Reichel experiment is likely over. Dude was doing nothing offensively, and was still getting caved in defensively even with sheltered deployment.

  14. Warm body, no assets given up, signed for a cheap one year deal that can take faceoffs. Nothing exciting but had to happen.

  15. Optimistically, this could let Petey focus more on his offensive duties and lead to his production getting closer to his potential. Kampf isn’t a 2C, but we aren’t exactly flush with options right now. He’ll be a fine stopgap.

I had initially thought maybe we could try Raty up there, but maybe the idea is we don’t want to overexpose him, which I support.

  16. Don’t care what anyone says this is a good signing for where we are at with injuries. He can take D zone faceoffs and give Petey the offensive zone draws. Kills penalties and a two way player that can chip in every now and then . Similar player to Blueger.

  17. Canucks fans, he may be the worst offensive player that I’ve ever seen, but believe it or not, you will probably grow to like him.

He’ll probably score 4 or 5 goals for you guys, and each time he scores will actually make you think he’s worse offensively.

I know that doesn’t make any sense, but it will in time, trust me.

Not a bad player, and much better contract than we had him for. I wish him well.

  18. Once bluegers back, this move might give petey next to none pk time which will give him more time i nthe ozone 5on5. Not a bad signing at all
