Rasmus Andersson To Toronto? + Other Leafs Trade Rumours | SDP

Uh on the trade side of things, Jay Rose Hill said on his podcast uh I think it was yesterday morning that he has a source uh and that uh the the Leafs took a run or are trying to take a run at Rasmus Anderson. Elliot Freriedman backed it up a little bit on the fan later on that day when he said, “Yes, I’ve heard the Leafs tried to make a run at Rasmus Anderson last year at the trade deadline. Couldn’t get it done.” and also acknowledged, and we’ve said this, we have said this for three years, that there is a tax Toronto will have to pay if they want to do business with Calgary because the owner is still mad at Brad Tring for resigning. Brad Tr is allowed to resign under Canadian law from his job. Yeah. But just like within his rights, just like Steve was mad at David Koff, Marie Edwards pissed with uh with Brad T. And every I got to tell you, every moment Brad Trill living spends on the phone with uh someone from the Calgary Flames should be docked from his paycheck. They’re not making a trade with you. Well, and and they did have they were close on a deal with Tan Evans Adidorov a couple years ago. Oh, yeah. But did it happen? But I think the Leafs were being used as leverage. And so Yes. And and and the Calgary Flames do this all the time. Really important to note, there’s a guy you might know who works there. name is Dave Nonus. He’s a VP there. Okay. Dave Nonus, former Leaf’s general manager, leakiest guy in hockey easily. I think he was Jay Rose Hill’s general manager. Uh, you said it, not me. Listen, I have no I’m not saying it’s Dave. All I’m saying is I think there’s some connections there. I think they they even if it’s not Dave and Jay directly, yeah, they would know the same people. I’m not like It’s not hard to see where that comes from. [ __ ] hates the Leafs because he thought he was right. He made a bunch of dafted, idiotic decisions when he became back God knows how long. He was brutal. And so he’s got a resentment and an axe to grind. So of course I would expect Dave Nonus to drop little little nuggets like that. And I’m not doubting Jay and I’m not doubting Jay’s source. I think that’s real. But I don’t think that any sort of Rasmus Anderson Anderson trade is going to happen. Now, it’s important. This morning, Darren Drager was on TSN 1050 and he said, “First up, first up, I think, with our with Carlo, the good one.” Uh, uh, I hope Carlo hears that. Uh, so I’m not I’m like at no in no way am I taking a shot at Jay Rose Hill here at all. I just want to be clear about that. But you know what? Me and Jay I bet I bet we could fight. I bet I know who’d win. Uh, all right. What did What did Drager said? Jay Rose Hill still owes me a beer. Uh uh Drager. Didn’t he give you a headlock at a bar once? Yeah. Yeah. I might as Yeah. There’s a chapter There’s a chapter in my first book that is about J. He’s a hilarious guy. There’s I just didn’t name him in the book. Drager. Drager uh said today that if the lease wanted to make a move like that, this is [ __ ] hilarious by the way, that um it would it would require something in the neighborhood of like a Matthew Nice. So if they were trying to acquire who? Um, if they were trying to acquire Rasmus Anderson, [ __ ] off. And we know. What do we know about Dave Notice and Darren Dger? What do we know? I wouldn’t do that. What the [ __ ] are you talking about? Zero shot. What do we know about Dave Notice and uh and Darren Dger? Uh, pretty connected. Are they? Yeah. I don’t remember. I don’t know anything. Can you explain? Dregs had a and and this is not a again, this is me complimenting Dregs. He’s hooked in. Dregs had a direct line to Dave Notice. Everything that happened in the Notice era, Dregs was like on it. Is that a thing? Oh, yeah. You don’t remember that? Talking about it on this show. It was long enough ago that I forget. And so, uh, I find it hilarious. Now, um, I there somebody pulled together the stats and I don’t even know where the hell the tweet went. I was going to send it over to Jesse. I apologize. I have it here in text. Whoever wrote this, I apologize for stealing it from you. Uh, we’ll find it. Since November 1st, 2024, Rasmus Anderson has 27 points in 89 games and an NHL worst negative 41. I don’t know who runs PR for this guy, but respectfully, I don’t think that’s the option the Leafs are looking for. So, I think there’s a lot of reasons why Toronto Calgary, I don’t think Rasmus’ stats are good, but I do think that people are on to something. I think Jay has uncovered something here that is real, which is the Leafs need a legitimate top four option that can move pucks. And Rasmus, I think, is a good player. But you think about the the Flames had 96 points last year, and that’s all he can do. And I have him in fantasy this year. He hasn’t done much. I’m telling you, they I think the type of player everybody thinks Rasmus Anderson is is the type of player Toronto is going to target. I just don’t think it’s going to be Rasmus. Does that make sense? Yes. I’m trying to find the other one there. There was uh another one last night. Um with regard to the Leafs making a trade and it came out of Finland and I’m trying to here it is. Uh Tamu Lassela who was drafted by the Nashville Predators. I don’t think he ever ended up playing in the NHL. Um he said per sources Rasmus Anderson will be traded from the Flames to the Leafs. Return sounds like already a red flag. Return sounds like Machelli and a 2027 second or Robertson uh and a prospect in 2020 uh a prospect and 2027 second. So he’s a 2027 second twice. There’s all kinds of stuff floating around out there. If Jay’s right, I’m buying him a full case of beer. Absolutely. Sure. That’s awesome. And I’m not again I’m not saying that Jay’s wrong. I’m just saying I don’t I believe Toronto is constantly used in trade rumors to drum up interest. I said this like a year ago. The the there is a uh moratorum. There is a a ban there is a prohibition on Leafs Flames rumors until we see one happen. A successful trade between the Flames and the Maple Leafs. Nope. Why would Why would the Flames only take Machelli or Robertson in a second round? I don’t know. Does that seem like like just a right shot defenseman? It could Listen, it could be legitimate. It could be a Finnish guy taking a Finnish guy and throwing him in a trade and being like, “Look at the Finnish guy who’s getting traded.” I don’t know. That’s too now. Maybe. Hey, maybe I’m turning a corner on this. Maybe it’s going to happen. Oh, man. Tanv, that didn’t happen. Uh, Zidorov. Zidorov, the agent. I’ve never seen this. Zidorov was on, who was he on? The Canucks? He was on Calgary. Oh, I’m an idiot. Sorry. He was on the Flames and his agent tweeted like the Leafs hashtag like, “Hey Leafs nation, you want this guy?” And we were all like, “What? Yeah, that sounds cool.” And then it didn’t happen. That was the weirdest thing. It was like 48 hours where we’re like, “Oh, okay. Zidorov’s happening any minute now.” Never happened. Elias Lynholm, nope. The Cadri stuff, don’t make me laugh. And now we’re moving on to Raspus Anderson. Stop. Shut up. Yeah, you’re right. That’s two big rumors involving the Leafs in the last two months. Cadre first, now Anderson from Calgary. And then and then Tan Evans Zadorov two years ago. You’re right. It that’s crazy. It’s not a thing. They pull off a trade, the prohibition’s lifted until then. Literally anytime I I want you to do this. Let’s We’re bringing bullying back on Twitter or whatever. Someone brings up a Leaf’s Flames rumor, it’s your obligation to tell them, “Shut up. Maybe don’t do it to Jay Rose Hill.” Yeah. Jay Jay can back it up. He’ll kill you. He’ll kill you. He’s a good guy. Don’t Don’t be mean to Jay. Yeah. No, don’t do that. Uh from now on though, here’s after that. Here’s my question for you guys, though. Okay. There are a few teams that are willing to do some business according to Pierre Lebrrent. The Blues. I said that, didn’t I? Calgary obviously is willing to do some business, of course. Uh, and the Wild are also in the mix. That’s interesting. So, do you think you want Mermis back? Who Who do you play for? Wild. Wild. Okay, Chasse. Do you think the Leafs could do business with the Blues? Do you think the Leafs could do business with the Wild? Are there anybody? Is there anybody there? And please, nobody say Colton Pereco, the man’s going to be Olympian. He’s not getting traded. Like, it has to be a hockey trade. It’s going to be for N. I don’t think the Leafs are trading NE, guys. No, I think he’s the future. No, that guy’s a future captain. I think the Blues kind I don’t know who you you’re getting back, you know? I don’t know who you want to take on there cuz it’s not going to be Cam Fowler. Is it going to be Justin Faulk? If you say it’s not Pareo, then the list is kind of dwindling, you know? So you got to look for the defenseman who you want. They need someone who can move the puck. Exactly. So, and I don’t think they’re moving Broberg, you know. So, I’m I’m running out of names there, but there is a history with the Blues and the Leafs doing a lot of deals. I know some of that a lot of that’s with the Cal Dubis era, but it doesn’t mean they couldn’t do something with uh Brad and Doug Armstrong. There’s a connection there. Nashville, I think, would be very interesting. I know that name that team wasn’t mentioned, but there’s a Barry Trotz who’s always antsy to do something. And if you go to Minnesota and you try and look at the names there on their defense who could get moved, we’re looking at the six guys who are starting for them. Uh Zeve Buou not moving. Brock Faber not moving. Spurgeon, do you want them? There’s a there’s a name. I don’t think they’re moving. They’re Jonas Broaddin. He can move a Is that a name? Sure. Urac who I don’t think they’re moving. And then we got like Hunt, you know, or Zack Bosian who’s on IR. So, you got to find the M. Like, if we get the teams now, we got to get down to the names. And there’s not a lot of names that jump out. Like, Spurgeon’s the only one where we’re like, maybe, but he makes $7.5 million. Is that the guy? 35 and he’s 5’9. Yeah. So, I don’t know. I don’t think that’s a Leaf guy. I don’t know if that’s who they’re looking for. So, I’m I’m slowly going through those teams. I’m running out of names. Like, and Calgary’s off, you know. So, I don’t believe Calgary straight up not an off. Yo, listen. If a Calgary deal happens, bully me. I’m I’m prepared to be bullied. I think that opposed to what? I threw in Nashville. Everyone always bullies all of us. I threw Nashville there because I think you get at least some interesting names. What do you got? What do you got with that? You have Brady Sheay, but there’s a lot of years left at $7 million is five more years. I don’t know if I don’t think they’re moving off of that, but maybe you got Nick Hey, who they might have been interested in when he was a Vegas Golden Knight. Yes, they were. There’s somebody who’s kind of interesting. They just the PRs just got him like with Brady Sheay long-term deal signed uh for four se four years at 26. I don’t think they want to move off of him. Nick Pervix there’s maybe but there’s a right-handed D only 2.75 two-year deal this year and next year. Is Nick Perix turning their season around? Is Nick Perix the guy? I won’t lie to you. I had also thought of Nick Pervic. You got to find the guy who’s going to be a difference maker and then be willing to make that move. And with those teams, I’m like, I’m running. I’m don’t know the names. The one one name I’m going to bring up that Nashville moved last year that instantly changed the season for a team, Alex Kerier. Uhhuh. For the Habs, he’s been spectacular there. So maybe Nick Per, maybe maybe Pervix is the guy. Maybe we stumbled on something. Is N is Nashville willing to do that two years in a row? Is Pervix going to be the guy who turns around the Leaf seat? Is he going to be on Legends Row? Yes. Holding the cup and in the like So, we’ve repeatedly said, “Well, it’s hard to make moves.” Okay. Well, you have a minor league team. Mhm. Let’s use some guys from there. Yeah. And if you’re not willing to do that, then I’d like to know what you are willing to do because nothing is not an option. And And Steve, as you like to point out, that is what the money’s for. That’s what the like I just don’t have sympathy when you are one of 32 people in the world to have this job. Okay, now let me ask you this. 64205 Nicholas Perix just signed with Nashville. I was about to say they just got Yeah. On July 1st he signed with the Predators. I think that’s uh 2.75 for two seasons. It’d be weird for them to move off of him right now. So, list of names, the list keeps dwindling if Nicholas isn’t at the top. Um, uh, uh, the the stats are not great. The advanced stats are not great, but Nashville isn’t great. So, please remember that when you’re looking at that stuff, like you’re looking at uh a team that genuinely sucks. Like, you’re look at Cam Fowler years at Anaheim. Absolutely atrocious stats as they went downhill. Immediately goes to St. Louis and is amazing. Yeah. I don’t really care about the advanced stats for people who play on terrible. Yeah. I think there’s got to be like more of a bell curve on that. You know what I mean? Like exactly. Um Yeah. What? What? I’m just trying. Find a guy. I’m just trying. Yeah. No, that’s that’s the exercise. Like you bring up those teams, find the guy. Uh like No, I don’t like that because they got to be a team who’s willing to move off of somebody to bolster their team or if it’s just a selling team cuz they already think they’re out of it. And amongst all of those teams, I don’t think there’s anything really there for the Leafs to move, but I’m not uh paid to sit there and figure that out all day. Somebody is. So, they I’m sure they have some names. Like, is there a some kind of change of scenery deal with the Oiler? Like, yeah, it’s it’s bleak. Like, listen, all Yeah, it’s hard to make deals. That’s what the money’s for. And if you’re not going to do that, I would love to see what you have on the Marlies. If you lose Sammy Blade to waiverss like, oh heavens, you know what I mean? Yeah, he played four. He didn’t play a single shift in that third period. Oh, for God’s sake, do something. I’m going to wrap up the uh the Leafs conversation with this. Who seat is hotter this morning? Brad for living or Craig Barube? Uh, logically Bub, but I keep hearing that’s not a thing. Well, Jonah Seagull did say this and Jesse, what do you think? What do you think? Just I’m tree. I think tree seed is hotter. And so Jonah Seagull, you just want to be the tallest guy in the press box again. Yeah. Hey, Myrtle was there last night. Oh, my bad. My bad. You know, there he is. Slender Man. Uh, would Keith Py, the head of MLS, tell me what a rough time you guys had at Easter Seals playing against those teams. You got I sat next to him and uh he’s such a good sport. He’s very funny about Oh, yeah. He loves it. Yeah. No, I don’t think he doesn’t love it, but he doesn’t kill us. Um, would Keith P, this is from Jonas article this morning. Would Keith Py, the head of Maple Sports and Entertainment and a huge admirer of Birub, even give Brad Tring the go-ahehead to make a move to move on from the coach uh if the GM said it was necessary to save the season? Or is it likely to be Tr’s job that would be in jeopardy if the Leafs keep stumbling along? To be clear, this isn’t just a Bub problem right now. The roster isn’t in a good spot. And then it goes into David Comp stuff. Um, and they did mention that the fourth line centered by Steven Lurren did not get a shot. Um, throw that in there. I know I talked about Yeah, Jonas is great for those little barbs. I I know I talked about like Keith P, you know, well, you pulled the I just got here card with Shanahan. So So let me get this straight. You’re the the CEO, that’s the title. CEO of MLSSE. Yep. And you like the coach, so you’re not going to let the GM fire the coach, the GM that was hired by the president who you should have got rid of anyway. Mhm. The moment you arrived, but you just got here. Do you see how this power structure is not It’s [ __ ]

  1. Knies is under contract for 6 years. He's big, strong and talented with a promising career ahead of him. Andersson has entered the back 9 of his career and peaked 5 years ago. I'd assume this is just nonsense talk in journalism land as no GM in their right mind would make this trade.

  2. I love you guys by far my favourite hockey pod but jeeze fellas we need a trade to improve we have no trade chips outside of Cowan, Danford and Robertson and none of those three are going to garner what we would consider a blockbuster or game changer for us. We need to be ok with losing something big to gain something big. Dont forget we once traded wendell for what turned out to be statistically the best ever leaf (Sundin) look at all the top teams who have won cups they all have traded top prospects or top roster players to be better. The leafs have been to scared to do that which is why we are a one pump chump in the playoffs

  3. If Knies is traded I will never watch a Leaf game again ever!
Stupidest idea I have ever heard.
You can trade ANY player on TOR over Knies and no one would care.

  4. Trading Knies would be suicidal for the Leafs. Like many, if they do that, I’m out … and I hope Treliving gets fired. He has made some horrible trades to make the Leafs slower and older, and man does it show.

  5. Flames don't even want anything the Leafs can give. No 1st until 2028 and a bottom of the barrel prospect pool. Kadri/Andersson will be going somewhere with actual trade capital

  6. You guys need to do an entire episode of "What if"/"In a perfect world" trade situation vs realistic. Talk what would be the dream trades (at least somewhat realistic) from teams we probably wont ever see but would be the best for the Leafs.

  7. Trevling is the one that needs to go. Bérubé does not have the right players to work with. Suppose to have gotten us bigger and tougher players for the playoffs. We don’t need them if they can’t play well enough in the regular season to get to the playoffs.

  8. Anderson and knies are similar players so what would be the point. They need knies. They need to get Anderson for some soft as s mfer which is about every other guy on the team besides knies

Edit. I was thinking montreal Anderson. My bad
