Earlier on in the season the line was blocking better for the pass
Because they’re reasonably good at preventing pressures, even though they’re pissing us off, and Love is very good at avoiding sacks.
First-of-all, Love is very, very good at avoiding sacks. This already gets us into about the middle line.
The first four or so weeks, the OL played well as a unit (at a historically high level), which means a high bar to drop from. However, recently, we’ve been playing at about 20th in the league for the past few games, which puts us at the middle now.
That is why.
While we obviously are down in O-line play to our very high standard, the quality of o-line is down in the entire league. We’ve been blessed for years with really good play and have managed to develop a lot of good players in house but people forget how many O-line players aren’t successful. If you look at our late day picks each year in the draft it’s often multiple o-linemen and we’re lucky if we get a good backup from there.
Normal teams without a phenomenal O-line coach like Stenavich(when he was our coach) may have 1-2 good starters at best. In general, o-line isn’t flashy and when college/high shcool guys have to pick usually d-line makes more money/clout.
The line is playing well relative to the rest of the league. Almost everyone has line prblems
I think the O line has been decent in pass blocking this season. The main issue is the run blocking.
The Oline is not bad at pass blocking. They may not have been great recently but in totality they are better at pass blocking. They are a bit of ass at run blocking though which puts the offense in tough and predictable spots
They sure fail the fucking eye test
I don’t know what “expectations” are based on, but I believe I saw Love had the lowest average pocket time going into last game. Hard to pressure when he’s getting the ball out in 2 seconds on average.
(It’s up to 2.3 seconds now, but I swear I saw it was 2 seconds.)
Hard to rush the QB when he dumps it off to the flats
The Packers have Love take a very deep drop. He’s also quite mobile, with a very fast release. That reduces the amount of pressures that turn into sacks. We’ve also stayed relatively close in most of the games we’ve lost, which means opponents still have to consider run defense instead of just going all out on pass rush. Finally, our line is above average until it gets decimated by injuries.
There are other reasons as well, which other people are correcting pointing out. The number of factors involved is the reason why simple charts like this never tell the full story.
for 1 thing, it doesnt
Because the Packers o line isnt horrible and Love helps mitigate the OLine deficiencies in pass pro.
Run blocking may be the worst in the league.
Hard to get pressure when the ball is going to WR screens as often as they are. Lafleur is trying to protect his line.
Because the pass blocking has been good. They are 5th in pass block win rate. Slipped a bit in recent weeks but it’s still not the main issue. The run blocking has been terrible.
Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
Because this specifically measures pass blocking. This doesn’t factor in run blocking.
They’ve been fine at pass blocking. Not elite, but fine.
They have been dog water bad when it comes to run blocking. Which kills us overall.
Because our Oline is good at pass blocking. Most people are very bad at evaluating Olineplay
This is great! This obviously means that GB is undefeated and averaging 45 pts and Love is throwing 5 TDs a game, right?
Cause graphs and stats are a silly way to figure this stuff out instead of just watching the game. Our oline is playing like ass.
Because it is not saying anything about the online.
