Some observations:

  1. There is a group of people here who immediately resort to calling people "bandwagoners" if they go against the "group think". Don't think we can win a ring with a team built around Keldon and Devin? Bandwagoner!

  2. People were very anti-tanking and claiming the Spurs would never tank lol. Reality: We tanked for 2.5 years for Wemby, Steph and then the later parts of last year after Wemby went out. Could you imagine if we didn't tank and didn't have Wemby or Castle on this team right now?

  3. Hilarious u/-captaincool calling out fans who wanted Victor as "people that restart a game in 2K because they lost the first quarter". Guess Pop is an idiot huh?

  4. "we don't even need to tank. that shit is reserved for sorry ass organizations like the Lakers that can't develop their players." – 55 upvotes, damn I guess we're a sorry ass organization that can't develop their players?

  5. "I'd rather have Scoot" LOL

  6. "I think Devin has real go-to scorer potential. I can see him on a Kawhi-esque trajectory offensively as he develops. The shots he created for himself tonight showed next-level ability.

Maybe we should be building around the guy (DEVIN!!) we have instead of building around 14% chance."

BRUHH this is the high IQ takes y'all were upvoting here? u/Spuran-Spuran? ?

  1. I remember these days. It was something else. There was very little to be happy about and almost every day was a war zone

  2. There’s always been similar takes but the volume is way higher now that Wemby is here.

And we definitely tanked for Wemby. We were just bad, but not so blatantly on purpose, when we picked Castle and Harper.

  3. You learn not to feel pain anymore after watching a whole season of Bryn Forbes in the starting lineup

  4. The guy agreeing to #5 (on preferring Scoot over Wemby) now having Area 51 flair is chef’s kiss lol

  5. yeah the sub has always been reactionary and full of people who doom, myself included. maybe more so now but not sure why everyone acts like this used to be a mecca of basketball knowledge

  6. Glad to see that I’m not the only one who’s noticed this weird superiority complex that Spurs fans have. They’re supposedly above building through trades/FA, above acquiring stars that they didn’t draft, apparently above tanking, still thinks that every player 1-15 on the roster matters like it’s 2014…

Like I’ve been saying: if they had it their way, this team would have Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson as the franchise cornerstones lmao.

  7. Have you been super negative and wanting to trade Fox away based on the first 12 games of the season? LMAO. You’re no better than “toxic positivity” posts then. Most of these “toxic” positive posts are just us saying that this is the first year we’ve been good and can make the playoffs, and for all you doomers to relax.

We lost two games vs GSW by a combined 6 points, and Curry had to go supernova for them to beat us, and people are calling for us to fire Mitch and trade Fox. What legitimate complaints do you have right now? Our three point shooting? Our perimeter defense? These are all issues we knew coming it to the season.

The biggest issue we have is inexperience for most of the team, and the only way to improve that is to continue getting experience. Nobody is saying we should build around DV and KJ right now so I’m super confused as to why you’re bringing that up. There’s always going to be stupid takes, but pulling the plug on a team 12 games into a season is the stupidest of takes.

Edit: It’s easy to go back in time and cherry pick bad takes, but all that does is tell us that you *are* a new bandwagon fan that has no idea how the Spurs operate LMAO.

Let’s focus on why new fans and bandwagon fans are mostly getting called out: their toxic negativity combined with impatience. If the team isn’t winning every game then we need to get rid of players and retool. DV and KJ are doing great as role players, we’re not expecting them to be the faces of the franchise. Fox has only played 9 games *total* with Wemby. Let’s not burn everything to the ground yet. If that’s “toxic positivity” then I’m very confused as to what you mean?

  8. To be fair, tanking doesn’t guarrantee the #1 pick, imagine we ended up drafting Scoot, Salaun and Maluach instead of Wemby, Castle and Harper T_T. We’ve truly been blessed

  9. Yeah I’ve been on this sub for 5ish years and ppl were pretty split during Dejounte’s emergence about what path the team should go. It was never as kumbaya as ppl want to present it, at least since I’ve been here

Having said that, this sub is so much worse now. I don’t understand how people can be so over reactionary and freak out about any loss. It used to be the game threads were a cesspool and the post game threads would be more measured, but now that we’ve got more fans and more expectations it’s so negative everywhere. Not to mention everybody that thinks they have an extra special insight that needs its own individual post as opposed to keeping the discussion localized in the post game thread

  10. Aww yes the great tank vs. anti tank civil war. I remember this a little although I rarely commented back then if memory serves. I mostly just lurked. 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah us Spurs fans can definitely get high on our own supply about doing things “the right way”

Also Im the Dev guy and even I would never suggest a tank is useless because we can build around him.

  11. I feel it was a pride thing. Honestly, I was against tanking because I just thought it would be bad look and would kind of instill some bad habits in these young players. That being said, I think we all holding our breath that someone would develop into a star. This organization has done a great job in the past finding guys later in the lottery/draft and maximizing their talent (Parker, Manu, Kawhi, Derrick White). Unfortunately, had some whiffs in the draft too which didn’t help with creating the roster, and we really expected way too much development out of Keldon, Sochan and Devin to patch up the glaring holes in our roster.

From what I remembered, there was legitimate hope. I think that same season, the Spurs actually started out OK. I think they started like 3-3, and then they just shat the bed and it became apparent that this team was going to sink to the bottom of the standings, tank or no tank.

I just thank the basketball gods that they blessed us with another generational talented big man and enjoy the ride. We really are blessed, and I’ll gladly eat crow now, seeing how bright the future is for the team.

  12. After just questioning Fox and accepting he lost us the game last night I got to see the toxic positivity posters. Great post love that you called them out.

  13. On your 2nd point…

The reality is that the point Sochan year was an accidental tank. The talking point from everybody that pre season was “it’s time to win some games.” They thought Collins + Wemby was gonna work and they didn’t expect point Sochan to be such a disaster. Season got away from us early and then the more overt tank stuff started happening

And also…you say in bold can you imagine if we didn’t tank and get Wemby and Castle. We could have tanked exactly the same and wound up with Asuar Thompson and Tidjane Salaun. Just cause we got lucky doesn’t mean there wasn’t a huge downside to tanking
