Obviously don’t need it much last year but we’re on the path for a career low in Hurts play action pass attempts. Maybe we need more of this?

  1. Looks like it’s more successful per play this year but wayyyyy less attempts. That’s the issue

  2. How much of that is inflated by RPOs in 2022, which are technically play action, but are much less viable today because of hyper-enforcement of ineligible man downfield penalties?

  3. We’re only halfway through 2025… so arent those numbers basically on track for the 2024 total?

  4. I always thought the idea was to keep the defense on it’s toes and guessing what’s coming next. Play action is a huge part of that in a functional offense.

I feel like our offense should be up there with the Rams/49ers/Lions every year in terms of how talented and effective they are. This team on paper should always be regarded as one of the best/most exciting offense.

Yet, we are constantly held back by bad offensive DNA. I like Sirianni but I truly dont understand how you can be so arrogant year after year. I would be so open minded for innovation and changes to make the offense better.

  5. The issue with this popular thought is teams are effectively dominating the eagles in the run game. Play action is MOST effective when the run game is effective. Our opponents have handled our run with ease and the O-Line is, alarmingly, getting regularly pushed backwards at the line. Therefore, play action is not as dangerous since they can still keep their shell in a pass defense while the players in the box handle the run. With teams effectively shutting down AJ with safety help on top of a minuscule route tree courtesy of the coaching staff, the only real play action threats we have posed are the post patterns and shallow crossers. Although I agree a general uptick in play action is warranted and could be good for the offense, I think developing a screen passing game is far more important to unlock the offense and run game.
