[McGran] Ageless John Tavares steps up to help fill the Auston Matthews void for Maple Leafs

  1. If shit really sinks into a rebuild I just hope to see John with a competitive Leafs team built around new young stars. Unfortunately that’s very unlikely.

One of the favourite Leafs of all time.

  2. Probably the most frustrating thing about this season is that JT is absolutely crushing it on an incredibly team-friendly contract and this is being completely wasted.

  3. For all the core four talk, I have never been disappointed by JT or felt let down by his effort. He obviously just puts in the work, plays his absolute best and is a model of consistency.

  4. I’ve still got a JT91 jersey with a “C” on it and I’m not swapping it for an “A”.

  5. JT is always reliable and the consummate professional. I hope the team does better for him in the rest of the season!

  6. I think there’s a good argument to be made for the idea that Tavares is one of the top 5 leafs of all time.

  7. He’s really trying.. So much HONEST EFFORT from him.. Should still be Captain..

Sadly he looked tired in the last 2 mins last night, he was on the ice the final 3 mins..

Whatever happens to Leafs this season, there is ZERO FAULT on JT.. He has done all he been asked…

  8. sadly we did it with spezza and giordano and pactioretty already where we dont take advantage of having an older guy greatly outperforming his team friendly contract and then they end up retiring before getting one last shot at a cup run 🙁

  9. I was pretty critical of JT the first couple of years he was with the Leafs. I felt he was overpaid and under producing. But the last couple of years he’s really turned it around and now he’s one of my favourites.

His team friendly contract only proves his heart is in it too.

  10. I don’t understand why he’s not still the captain. It should never have been given to Matthews. One of them wants to be here. The other is waiting for his contract to expire so he can leave. Too bad for him the Coyotes aren’t still back home waiting.
