So, on today’s Lockdown Falcons, we will be talking about the marquee matchup between two players, Bjan Robinson and Jonathan Taylor, that actually won’t actually see each other on the field until the very end of the game when they’re exchanging jerseys. And then we’ll talk about some lesser matchups uh that will be about players that will be squaring off in this Falcons Colts game that will be in the trenches. You know, talk about some of the players that will be missing from that trench battle. Uh and maybe because we have a special guest here. We’ll actually talk about the kicker for once on the pod. And that guest is none other than Jarvis Davis is locked on Sports Atlanta. And if you don’t know who I am, I’m your very humble host, Aaron Freeman. Been covering the Falcons for a long time. Uh, and you know, used to do so at faulfans.com. RIP. Still going strong on this podcast. And I think each and every one of you that go strong with me as everydayers, that means you make this podcast your first listen each and every day. And all you got to do to become an everyday is subscribe or follow for free on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts. So Jarvis, let’s talk about this marquee matchup, right? You know, we had a similar situation going into that 49ers game a couple of weeks ago where it was Christian McCaffrey versus Bjun Robinson. given the starts that both of those guys had had and Bejan kind of went into that game as sort of the guy, but Christian McAffrey kind of emerged as he had the better game that particular Sunday or Yeah, that was Sunday. And then um the question for me is you know Jonathan Taylor it’s been kind of a quiet couple of games for Bean since that 49ers game where you look at you know did the stat on the crossover Thursday in losses this year. Bejian averages 41 rushing yards per game in wins it’s 129 rushing yards per game. And so Jonathan Taylor leading the NFL in rushing yards. He’s kind of the big name potentially going to have a big day against a very suspect Falcons run defense. Uh, but Jarvis, I sit here and I go like those stats kind of tell you the whole story. If they can’t get Bejian going on the ground, he’s been consistent in the passing game, but if they can’t get him going on the ground, it’s probably going to be another loss for the Falcons. What say you? Um, I’m right in that same boat. Cuz here’s the thing, man. We’ve seen this team get punched in the mouth in the beginning of games. Um, I thought this according to team rankings, this team is averaging 6 and 1/2 points in the first half of games on the road. So, they never have an answer. They don’t have a counter. So, you know, my whole thing is that until they prove that they can figure out a way to get things going on a on the offensive side of the football when they can’t run, they’re going to be cooked. And and I think that Zack Robinson is a guy that, you know, we talk about the foundation of this offense and a lot of people wanted to try to move this offense to a pass happy offense because they had all these these receiver weapons including Bean Robinson. He’s in there as well. I I never bought that because you got a guy who had three career starts coming into the season in Michael Penn. Now I believe Michael Penn is going to be a football player. um a legit starter in his league, but he has to get there. He has to work through. He has to get the snaps under his belt. He has to get the experience under his belt in order to be able to get to where or to meet those expectations, so to speak. So for me, I it’s hard for me to have confidence in this team, in this offense, you know, when they are going up against a team like the Colts because, you know, like there are there are certain things when it comes to football, man, that that will always ring true. You know, you have a game plan coming into games. You try to work that game plan. if it doesn’t work, here’s what I’m going to hit you with. Here’s what I normally go to in these particular situations or let me see where the weakness is on this defense and let me see if I can take advantage of that with these plays that you know. So, it’s just that it’s like how you talked about a little bit earlier on the Falcon Squad show on Locked on Sports Atlanta. just it’s hard to get a grasp of what he’s trying to do. It seems like he’s just calling plays. There’s no setup seemingly. So that’s why you don’t see the play action that much, right? Because if you’re going to use play action, you you use that that’s your counter off of the run game if you’re having success or you come in with that play action. If you normally run the football a lot on first down, you come out essentially in that first in that first 10 or 12 plays, you coming out probably first play of the game, you going play action because people are expecting you to run the football on first down because you know you self scouted and said, “Oh man, we’re like 75 80% on dog on running the football on first down. Oh, let me switch that up. Let me throw something that let me throw this at them.” and then you come with the run and then you can continue to go that play action because they have to bite up. They have to respect it because that’s what you do. That’s the foundation of who you are. But I just don’t think that Zach has gotten to that level yet. I’m not saying you’re not going to get there, but as of right now and on as we’re recording this pod, you know, it’s it just don’t look like it’s going to get there at this. Yeah. You know, and it’s got to if it’s going to get there, it’s going to have to get there, you know, sooner versus later, right? Yeah. Um, and you know, we talked about you’re in the hole at this moment. Yeah. We talked about this on the Falcon Squad with the the idea of not having those counter punches, right? Uh, you talk about, you know, if you have a game plan, if A and if A doesn’t work, then you got to pivot to B. And as you we discussed with D Orlando Led better uh and yourself on the Falcon squad on Thursday, you know, the B doesn’t exist. The the the counters don’t really exist. So when you say it’s got it’s got to be the game plan, like I I sit here and I agree with you like because we haven’t seen it over a year and a half consistently from this offense, they have to come up with a better script, a better plan of attack to come in. Okay, we’re going to do X, Y, and Z. Here’s what we’re going to do to start this game. Here’s where we self scout all that sort of stuff. You did that kind of coming out of the by-week against Buffalo. That was kind of the last time that you really saw this offense work. And so, you know, can can you get back to doing that on a, you know, without the having an extra week to prepare like we saw that last time this offense was really humming uh for this football team. So that’s going to be the challenge because at this stage, you’re right, like it’s hard to really, you know, and I’ve said it before on on podcast where it’s just like you kind of know what the game is going to be after the first two series for the Falcons this year where it’s just like the two offensive series like the first drive if they can move the ball effectively, it’s like, okay, maybe maybe they’ll win today. or sometimes if they get a three and out and then they come back on the second series and they’re moving the ball, you’re like, “Okay, this is going to be a quoteunquote good day for the the Falcons.” Uh, but we’ve seen too many games where it’s just like those first two series is is nothing. And you’re like, “Well, this ain’t this ain’t going to be a good f Sunday. So, if you got some yard work, you got some housework you got to do, you might as well get to it because the Falcons aren’t going to make it worth your while for these next three hours, man. You know what, man? like you know and another thing with this dog on offense man I just sit and watch this offense it is so methodical you know how there are sometimes especially when in the Matt Ryan era the when there’ll be laws in the game and you know they’ll mess around and get a nice game and then next thing you know they going down they getting down they lining down they getting up on the line of scrimmage and Matt is just going to work man I would love for this offense to get some type of tempo, man. They don’t put any pressure on defense when it comes to that those particular situation. Even in the in the two-minute drill, like when it’s time to start doing that, they still a little bit methodical. You don’t really see that sense of urgency. And I think that man, they have to be ready to go to that at any moment because like when you take so much time to get there, get up to the line of scrimmage, get set, the defense has so much time to diagnose what you’re doing. They have so much time to see what formations you’re in. They have so much time to understand what you’re trying to do because you basically give them exactly what you what they’ve been watching film on, right? You know, if you give them everything they’ve been watching film on, of course they going to know what’s coming. Of course they going to come down and bap that dog on outside zone and that edge guys going to get up field like Kavon Chase. I thought this man about to go to the Pro Bowl off this one one little game against uh against the Falcons, man. So when you think about it from that aspect, I would really like to see I think this would add another element. Add a a B or a C, you know, or A1 or A2, whatever you want to dog call it, Roman numerals and all that stuff. You can get into all that, you know, but I just feel like Zack it sometimes this offense is just so sluggish and it’s like, okay, they don’t get up to the line of scrimmage. Uh Drake London gonna motion across the formation. Uh Bian Robinson gonna come line up in the slot and he gonna do this. Fall asleep because I was Falcons offense. Right. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. You know what I’m saying? Like that that’s exactly the mode you go into when you watching this team try to operate. So it’s just like they need to get a sense of urgency in this offense, man. And they need to get it fast. Yeah. So we’ll see if they can get that sense of urgency over in Berlin uh with the run game. and you know is going to be important to do so because they’re not going to have one of their starting offensive lineman and Matthew Berseron. He is out of the lineup. But maybe the Falcons are getting a break because the guy he’s most likely going to be blocking in DeForest Buckner is also out. Uh and we’ll talk about who is in who’s out for this upcoming game against the Colts uh in Berlin as we continue today’s locked on Falcons. Guys, today’s episode is brought to you by Mint Mobile. And as we’re recording this on Thursday, we do have an idea. We got a little bit extra day early with the Falcons traveling overnight to Berlin and certain players being left states side. They’ll have to watch on TV like the rest of us. Guard Matthew Bersron is out with an ankle injury. Edge rusher Leonard Floyd out with a hamstring injury. And tackle Storm Norton out with a foot injury. on the Colts end of the spectrum, DeForest Buckner out with a neck injury. So, Jarvis, we were looking at the potential possibility of Matthew Berseron being out of the lineup uh in this game and Kyle Hinton sort of replacing him and it was a little bit of a concern because it’s like, well, that’s the side of the defensive line that DeForest Buckner usually lines up on. And, you know, if for those of you that are not familiar with Mr. Buckner’s work, uh that man is a monster. uh one of the best DTackles in the NFL. You know, I know Jarvis, I I know you may also be partial to Grover Stewart. He’s he’s your type of of big DTackle that can get in there and be disrupted really, you know, you know, so I understand, you know, uh uh you you look at this, you know, Colts DTackle room probably with a lot of admiration in terms of because, you know, you always talk about there’s no Gilbert Browns and no Ted Washingtons in the league anymore. Grover Stewart isn’t quite that type of, you know, one tech, but you know, he’s probably closer to that type of style of player. So, you know, by today’s game, yes, he’s one of Yeah, by today’s standards. Yeah. So, that’s going to be a challenge for the Falcons. But, I’m curious, Jarvis, you know, now that you know Berseron is definitely not going to play, now that you know Buckner’s not going to play, Storm Norton’s not going to play. How do you feel about this Falcons offensive line? Presumably Chris Lindstöm is going to play. Uh, how are you feeling about this Falcons offensive line being able to block this Colts defensive line in order to facilitate a big game for Bean Robinson? I feel better, you know, because the big thing for me, man, or the the what I was scared of is potentially having Javon Gwyn, you know, I I don’t think they would have gone to bat with Jovon Gwyn, you know, but like I just talk about this this this def offensive line as a whole like, right, I think the Storm Norton piece, I think we should be concerned about him potentially not coming back, you know, cuz you talk about that 21day practice window that that’s been open is it’s those days adding up. So, you know, with this setback so late in that window that has just opened up a couple weeks ago, this is that’s that’s that’s a concern of mine because, you know, if both if Chris and Matt were going to be out, I I was I felt a lot more comfortable bumping Elijah Wilkinson down and Storm No being at that right tackle. We had talked about that. I I feel like, man, going forward, this this offensive line depth is being tested, man. So, the fact that Chris Lind is going to be in there, I I feel like you can at least try to get something going in this run game. You have to, right? They ain’t got no choice until we find that B or that counter that Zack has I think he’s searching for it. I don’t know. You know, you know, or or he’s just got his eyes closed on his play sheet just dialing it up, baby. You know what I’m saying? Look, man, you got me talking about Zack Robinson, man. I really liked the man last year. You know what I’m saying? Now, it’s just I don’t know. I’m so I just don’t understand it. I’m trying to I don’t follow that’s where I am with with Zack Robinson. So, but I I think that Chris Lerman there and Elijah Wilkerson, you know, going forward, you know, I I feel like that’s that’s probably ideal. and Matt Berseron with Ross saying he’s going to be weak to week. We might have to get used to Mr. Hinton, you know. So, Kyle Hinton in a full game. Hey, man. Y’all can say what y’all want to say about him filling in. Yeah, he might have been okay filling in, but it’s the difference between filling in for a quarter versus playing four of them things and you know nobody else ain’t coming and everybody else on the other side of the ball know it ain’t coming. And thankfully thankfully uh Mr. Buckner is not going to be able to take advantage of that. Yeah, that’s that’s the bright side. Um to Kyle Hidden’s credit, I will say this. I don’t think he was a disaster last week. No. If you just focus on that one play where he didn’t know what the play call was where uh he ran out there like they were blocking for a screen. He ran like six yards down the field. Uh, and everybody else was in pass protection and it was like, Kyle, did did you know what the play was? Like, and and what’s funny about it, Jarvis, is like, you know, ineligible man downfield is like if you go one yard behind beyond the line of scrimmage and you’re not an eligible receiver, that’s where the flag is, right? Like it’ been one thing if it was like borderline, you know? It was like he was six yards down the field like like that’s even pretending off again. That man said, “Oh, it’s quarterback draw. Okay, that’s cool. Let’s go. I got you.” You know what I’m saying? Like, bro, they’re not in the playbook. What? You can’t you can’t do that, my guy. Like, you’re not allowed to do that. So, that that was hilarious to me. But, um, that being said, um, I forgot what I was going to say, but um, yeah. Oh, yeah. The Storm Norton element of it is, I think, interesting because you you talk about that 21day window. I believe it closes on the 12th of November. So, next week. Yeah. And because of the reported setback that he had, it doesn’t feel like he’s going to get activated to the Rock because this is basically the, you know, next week’s game, I guess, is the last game he could get activated on. Uh, it doesn’t sound like that. And to me, you know, it it feels like the Elijah Wilkinson experience has kind of run its course to me these last couple of weeks and you were just kind of waiting on when Storm Norton’s going to come back and and kind of, you know, save you saw the light, you know. Yeah. Um, and so if we’re now sitting here of, well, we got nine more games of Elijah Wilkinson and, you know, Mike Jerel’s not coming to the rescue. And I don’t want to necessarily put too much stock in Jack Nelson. As we said all summer, it’s like if Jack Nelson is playing snaps this year, something has gone horribly wrong for the Falcons. And I’m I’m I’m nervous about the offensive line as you as you said, Jarvis. Yeah, man. This is this is cause this gives me cause for concern, right? Like I think divine like divine Diablo concern like this is there are certain positions on on on this team that just couldn’t afford to to to to get hurt and and I think that it was definitely the linebacker core because you know a guy that we going to talk about I don’t know how we’re going to talk about him because I’m not going to say his name at all. you know, he’s can’t get on the field for whatever reason. Um, and the guy that they drafted is not a starting caliber guy. So, you have those issues. And, you know, at the beginning of the year, as far as with the offensive line, we had hope. It’s like, okay, Caleb McGarrett down. Yeah, that’s a big loss for sure. As far as running that running that rock, yep, that is a that’s a huge loss. Chris Lstrom, boys gone down for the season. Yep, that hurts. Okay, Elijah Wilkinson coming in, you know, Jourman, offensive tackle, but Storm Nor coming back. He’s solid. You know, he he’s not a world beater, but he’s solid. He can give you a whole season potentially and be okay. You be okay with what he’s going to give you. But now that it looks like he’s not going to be here, it means you have the rest of the season with Elijah Wilkinson. And who’s his backup? Michael Derrell, Jack Nelson, man. That that that looking down that line, man, it don’t look good. So, I I feel like this team has the injury bug has bitten these guys pretty dog on well. Like it started off the season with with the whole McGary thing and then eventually it just start they start getting punched upside the head and and there’s no excuses. There’s no excuse. But like you have to acknowledge that potentially losing Storm for for the rest of the year, that’s going to put this offensive line in a pinch to say the least. Yeah. And we’re not going to get into it on today’s episode, but you know, you sit there and you go like, why is the depth so bad after you’ve had a general manager here for five years? Like you you figure death would be a little bit better. But we’ll we’ll save that we’ll save that conversation for a later date. Um instead, no, you know, we we’ll we’ll see how how I bring that linebacker that shall go nameless into the conversation to wrap up today’s podcast. But before we get there, uh you know, I don’t know what the translation is in German, so I won’t try to butcher it with a bad German accent, but you know, we’re going to talk keys to victory with Jarvis Davis. And he says, “Carpm sees the day.” and we’ll explain what that means as we wrap up today’s Locked on Falcons. And guys, today’s episode is brought to you by Prize Picks, the daily fantasy app where making the right call can actually pay off since we make decisions every day. So, wrapping up today’s Locked on Falcons with myself, Aaron Freeman, Jarvis Davis, Locked on Sports Atlanta. Jarvis, I asked you, you know, what’s a key to victory for you in this game? And you gave me a very um, you know, mysterious. You got to seize the day. And I’m just like, what’s going on in Jarvis’s head? Usually, I don’t know what’s going on. We got the third segment. This is the time for it to go off the rails. I don’t know what’s going on in your head. So, Jarvis, I give you the floor. What do you mean when you say, you know, the Falcons can win this game if they seize the day? The Atlanta Falcons are in a dire situation. They on a three-game losing streak. Like you have one of your one of the the better run stoppers or more active defensive lineman in the NFL and DeForest Buckner not on the ro, not on this roster, not playing. Take advantage of that, man. and and I’ve been calling these guys out and one and two of those guy two of those guys have come come to the table and I’m talking about Jaylen Walker and number 54 Brandon Doris you know like those guys have been playing they played their behinds off last week and Doris the past couple weeks he’s just been very super super active and I Love that from a defensive lineman perspective because those guys were being were going to be counted on coming to this season and we talked about a lot of young guys being counted on and what that looks like. You talking about the up and down, the disappearing in games and all that stuff. Yeah, those guys need to continue to do their thing. And so they have to seize this opportunity. They have to get off blocks. They have to go at this offensive line. You have to be aggressive. That’s the only way this defense is going to work because guess what? When quarterbacks have time, they are finding 21. They’ve been f they found 20 a lot too. So, you know, with Young Boy coming back, Billy Bowman potentially, more than likely, man, I need to see that that ball that ball needs to get in his hands, you know, and do something with it. I I I love what I see with him in the run game. And I need to see you know you know what else I’m about to go about to say number three. Okay. Yeah. I need I need that again. I need that. That’s what that’s what this team need. That’s what these young boys need. They need to see their leader, the guy that’s that dude make plays and and and because that when you start making when he start making plays like that, that stuff gets contagious, man. Guys, you even had dog on James Pierce Jr. up here picking up the fumble, almost taking that jump to the crib. Yeah. Yeah. He’s still on the team for you. That’s who I thought you were going to say when you were He’s still here, bro. Okay. He still there’s still an opportunity for him to seize the day as well. More so than anybody else on this dog on team. Okay. 27 need to do something. Okay. Look be like Denzel Washington. I need to see something. You better leave with something, bro. A sack, a half a sack, a force fle. You better leave with something. You got to leave with something in this game, man. Like it’s there. The opportunity is there. Daniel Jones will give you the rock. He will. We just saw it last game. I ain’t believe I don’t believe it. What I saw last game, I believe that. I believe that can be replicated for sure. And the way the Falcons defense has played overall this year, they are capable of doing that and making him look like the guy that he was in New York. So, yeah, man. Sees the day. Get that take advantage of the opportunity that’s in front of you, man, because y’all need it. It has to happen. It has to happen. Okay. Well, I’ll just add this little tidbit. Jesse Bates was added to the injury report on Thursday with a knee injury. Uh so, we’ll have to keep an eye on that to sort of see if uh you know, if he’s ready to go on Sunday morning. So, that will be something to keep an eye on. But, let’s wrap up. Jarvis, you know, you you refuse to mention the name of a certain linebacker on this team by the name of number 44, right? you know, you refused to name his uh another linebacker on this team. You called him something else that we won’t repeat on the podcast, his number four. Um, you know, and I I bring that up just because, you know, I’m basically doing that with the kicking situation. And since we have you on the podcast, I said earlier this week, like, I ain’t talking about those stinking kickers on this podcast anymore until they give me a reason to talk about the kickers. They miss kicks. Like, all right. All right. Yeah, that guy missed kicks. The kicker. The kicker, right? I’m not gonna, you know, you got to earn your name. I gotta figure out what learn your name by you making a field goal for once uh at this point in time. So that’s where that’s coming from. That’s where number 44, Troy Anderson, the man who often goes nameless when you’re on the pod. The kicker is the new Troy Anderson is basically what I’m saying. Jarvis, so I bring it up just because because I refuse to talk about the kicker. Do you have any thoughts on the kicker before we wrap up today’s episode? I mean, until the only reason I even t brought up the kicker on the Falcon Squad on Thursday is the fact that Ra is with these dog gone phrases, man. Man, talk about a a wonderful peace. Oh. Oh, no, no, no. I’m sorry. Operational peace. Yeah, operational peace. Zane Gonzalez is going to bring operational peace. Well, you know what? I hope he does. Ask me, do I have any confidence that he’s going to bring that? Nope. I have no reason to. They pick guys that, you know, they feel like they are capable of being a being a good kicker and they just haven’t been good at picking kickers. It’s it’s it’s been a while, you know. Young Way, we got spoil, you know. He he they didn’t understand that, hey, he was bad last year. And you and you brought in a guy who who you didn’t even have to use a roster spot for for a competition. That’s interesting. Questionable decision. You know, that could you could potentially question the person who’s in charge of bringing in personnel. I know you don’t want to get into that because we don’t have time. I I promise you. We don’t have much. We’ll have enough time because we will have to go way back, you know what I’m saying, at the beginning of this thing to start having some conversation about that. But but I think right now, man, I have no expectations for for for for the for the kicker in the Falcons uniform. Is you telling me Zayn Gonzalez on Sunday? Shoot, he can be somebody else next Sunday. If he goes 0 for four, what’s the point of keeping him on the team? What what what benefit of the doubt has he earned? Yeah, it look it’s not anything personal to the kicker. The new kicker is just you look at Riley Patterson, Lenny Creek, Ben Sals, Parker Roma. This team is 0 for four when it comes to finding an answer that is not young Wu making field goals at the kicking situation. So, you know, maybe maybe the new kicker is going to make it one for five. And if that is the case, then hey, you know, that’s a halfway decent batting average, right, in baseball. I don’t know if that’s good enough in the NFL, but No, it’s not. It’s not. It’s not one for five. Somebody needs to have eye for a kicker. I’m sorry. Maybe the special teams coordinator, you know, someone someone got to make a kicker. So, somebody Yeah. So, we’ll see. Someone makes some kicks this weekend. Appreciate you guys for another week of uh, you know, enduring my terrible German accent. Uh, you know, don’t worry. After Sunday, it’ll it’ll I don’t know if it’ll be done, but we’ll see. We’ll see. I’m not planning on doing it starting Monday, but Sunday you’ll probably get more of it. Depending on the results. Yes, it’ll be a lot of German swearing or a lot of like probably still German swearing because it all sounds like swear words to me basically. Atlanta Falcons face a critical crossroads in Berlin as their three-game losing streak collides with the Indianapolis Colts. Can Bijan Robinson bounce back and lead the Falcons to a win? Host Aaron Freeman and guest Jarvis Davis (@LockedOnATL) dissect the stark reality facing Atlanta: Robinson’s recent struggles, offensive coordinator Zac Robinson’s glacial play-calling, and injuries exposing the Falcons’ paper-thin offensive line depth. Will Robinson outshine Jonathan Taylor? Can the Falcons’ depleted offensive line take advantage of the absence of Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner? As the kicking carousel continues, will yet another new face solve one of Atlanta’s most persistent problems? Tune in for the blueprint on whether the Falcons can salvage their season or if the losing streak extends across the Atlantic.

  1. Unrelated: I stumbled upon the locked on GT by accident (UGA fan) and I had no idea Jarvis was a cohost on there 😂 bro is working hard

  2. I feel like Rah could be a decent coach but he needs great coordinaters, Zac is the biggest thing holding this team back. Injuries are something every team deals with so can't blame it on that.

  3. Hey Aaron, 🙋‍♂️ I would love 🙋‍♂️ a 1 or 2 hour long video of you and Jarvis airing out all the problems with the front office of this team

  4. Listen Linda. Listen Linda! Yall need "Primetime Neon Dieon Sanders!" This is THE only way to save that franchise. GET 👏🏿 DIEON 👏🏿 NEON 👏🏿 SANDERS 👏🏿 Stop playing!

  5. That offense lack of sense of urgency gets on my nerves so much now I’m always watching play clock. at first i thought it was poise but now I’m like do they not understand what’s going on 😂
