New York Islanders Postgame Availability | NYI at COL (11/16/25)
there and just your your thoughts on the game. Um, I thought we played a a really good hockey game to be honest with you. Um, that’s a really good hockey team over there. Um, and I thought we played, you know, a pretty good game for uh for pretty much 60 minutes tonight. And, um, you know, I’d like to have a couple back there on the power play. A couple of my chances uh could have made a difference tonight. And, um, yeah, no, overall I thought we were a solid game. Obviously we would like to have uh you know get a point out of it at least or you know um get the win but um just got to take the positives from tonight and move on. A onegoal game for most of the contest. How did the PK and also Sroken give you guys a chance? Yeah, Sroi was phenomenal again tonight. Power play was really good or sorry penalty kill was really good. Even our power play had really good looks. It’s just a matter of us bearing down, including myself, and um but yeah, um you know, we like I said, we’re going to take the positives from today and and um bring them into Dallas for Shabbanov to come back after a 12game absence. How did he look to you tonight? Yeah, I thought he was good. I mean, um you know, he was making plays out there. He had a lot of, you know, some good ozone shifts and stuff and um definitely didn’t look out of place. He he looked comfortable out there, especially as the game went on and um it’s good to have him back. Um I think we did some good things. Obviously, off the rush, that’s a really dangerous team. Um they have a lot of guys that you know pushed the pace up the ice and stuff. So uh you know they they brought some speed and you know for the most part I think we kept them wide and um you know disrupted a lot of those chances. But you know they’re going to get zone time. That’s when those guys are on the ice that’s uh that’s their bread and butter and we knew that. But um you know I like a lot of the things we did but like I said we uh bury a couple chances and the goender got it. The final score didn’t tell the whole story. A tight onegoal game battle for most of the game. Just your thoughts on on Yeah. I mean, we get the first one on the road and this building’s always big. Um, you know, we hold them not many shots in the first. Not much going on, but uh, you know, special teams didn’t play a big factor, but we had our chances there, too. Uh, so it is what it is. Good goalending. Um, I like some of the things we did. They’re going to get their zone time and, you know, they have a lot of guys that fly up the ice. So, it’s, uh, you know, we did some good job keeping them the outside, stuff like that. But, you know, in the end, it’s uh, they had a couple more goals. How tough was Wedgewood tonight? Yeah, I mean, you saw there was a lot of those slot chances, power play. Um I think the back door there he got a piece of uh just a lot of good plays that uh you know we we had the chances but he played really well for Shubanov to you know miss 12 games and come back. What’ you make of him tonight? Yeah, it’s always hard. Um you know I think the way what he brings to the game, the speed, the craftiness, uh you see it you see it a lot and you know I think he plays bigger than his size. So, it’s uh it’s nice to have him back and you know, I’m sure this isn’t the easiest place to play after uh missing 12 games to go toe-to-toe with a powerful team like the Avalanche and and to be so tight in the contest. Does that give your group confidence despite the result? Yeah, I mean I I think we’re a confident group. I mean, we’ve started this road trip off pretty well. So, I think we have the confidence. I think we know what we can what we can do, but we know how we need to play, too. Um so, yeah, like tonight it’s uh it’s tough. the the goalending was good and you know we had the chances but uh couldn’t finish a couple. You obviously you you watched the last couple of games getting back. What did you see out of the defensive structure tonight that you know kind of was allowing you to to stay in this game? I I think we’re just getting more comfortable in it. Um you know it’s a lot of swarming pucks, a lot of keeping the pucks on the outside. Um you know we have kind of those safety layers and I think we’re just getting more comfortable in it really. Of course, the the final final result wasn’t indicative of how hard you guys fought, how tight the game was. No, it was a hard fought game. I mean, I thought we played really well and uh their goalender was the story of the game. I mean, he made some some really good saves, especially on our power play. I mean, we had a lot of good looks and he made those saves. So, um it was a great it was I thought it was a great team effort. I mean, it was probably our best game of the road trip to be honest. I mean, I I thought we play really well defensively. What are you doing successfully to to keep teams to the outside there? Well, we the commitment of our guys, I mean, we we put in quick pressure and and uh we got great stick and I think that helps a lot. For optimist 12 games and come back, what do you make of him and his line? I thought he played well. Um, you know, I mean, it’s the type of injury he had, upper body injury. It’s it’s always like you you’re curious to see how someone’s going to react on a contact, you know, because you don’t really get hit in the practices. So, I thought he he didn’t shy away from any of that and I thought he played really well. How did Richie and Zikas get off of him this whole line? Well, I thought they had good buzz in, you know, when when they were out there and and I thought that they um they possessed the puck. I mean, I thought they had a great game the three together. Just offensively, was there anything more you felt like you guys could have done or is that one where you just say, you know what, the goalie you know what I’m going to say. We we could have done a little bit better job put having body in front of the net and then try to take his eyes away from the puck and and that would probably help but he made some great save. I mean come on the the just the save at the end from you know side to side on Bo Arvat or the the save on on Paul Mary from the pocket. I mean come on the there were like great a chances made some saves and those it happens. Does getting standing ovations ever get old? No, it it means a lot to me because I mean um had a great time here. Played eight years and we had we had a great run. I mean, six conference final, two Stanley Cup. I mean, it’s nice to see um the people react that way. What at the end of the day, what was it like for your guys to go up against Brock Nelson and, you know, just see him like that? Well, I’m sure it’s it’s probably more special for him than I’d say for us. I mean, as a coaching staff, the players who played with him for a long time, I mean, probably very special as well. But Nelly was an important player on our team, played a big big role for this organization. And but that’s the way hockey is now. I mean, and um I’m sure he’s happy there. and and hopefully that um I just hope that we’re going to start we’re going to keep winning games like we’ve been doing on that road

Cant win them all gents
They were SOLID. Took the best team in the league till the last minute. Win at Dallas and Detroit and come back home strong. LGI.
Patrick Roy will always be loved by Avs faithful.
Him giving a compliment to Wedgewood was cool.
Another example of the Islanders never being among the elite teams in the league. And this year, like everyone since 1985, is no different. Same ole hapless Islanders.
