Talbot, Seider, Raymond, McLellan Post Game vs NYR | Nov. 16, 2025
Pretty cool. Tal, just talk about the way you guys battled tonight and bounced back from last night. Yeah, I mean, we talked about uh game management skills, tightening it up, being able to win the close games when it comes down to it. And there’s no better example of that than the way we played tonight for a full 60 minutes. So, um give our guys a ton of credit for responding after um what happened last night. And um man, that was fun to play behind. Just the way they closed it out, too. I mean, how important was that to show after yesterday? Exactly. like they they didn’t let me do a whole lot in the third period there with they have three shots in the final 20. So, I mean the difference between last night and tonight and uh the mental fortitude uh to come back and and play a game like that after uh what had happened in third period last night. So, um give the guys a ton of credit and here they came out, they established our game early. Um power play got us a big one there and you know Ray gets us a huge one at the end of the game. So, um, but that doesn’t happen if we don’t check the way that we do. And, uh, this is a tough building to do that in and we, uh, we played a heck of a hockey game again tonight. Was there something said after last night or maybe before Cam? I mean, just the way you guys lost, it probably looked like it’s kind of left the mark a little bit the way things went. Yeah, I mean, obviously nobody was happy last night. I’ll I’ll leave what was said in the dress room to to the guys that were in here last night. But, um, yeah, we were not happy with the way that we closed that one out. We came out tonight and we closed this one out the way that we should have. So, um, again, that’s uh that’s what good teams do. They they respond and bounce back and that’s what we did tonight and it was a heck of a game. You guys played the way you did in a one-onone game most of the time. Is that also a key factor in this too? Like you you started early, you kept the pressure on and it was still a tight game the whole way. You didn’t relent on that. No, we didn’t. And we didn’t try to force anything. Sometimes when those games are 1-1, maybe you cheat for offense or something like that and you’re trying to get the winner, but we just stuck to our game plan, kept playing our game. Um, kept playing tight defensively, didn’t let anyone get in behind us. Um, took our chances when we got them. That quickie played an unbelievable game at the other end. It probably could have been, uh, you know, a lot worse than a 2-1 game. So, I give him a ton of credit tonight, but uh again, give our guys a lot of credit for sticking with it, not opening it up, um playing the way we need to play defensively and not open it up offensively for us. How hard is that on a goalie when a guy goes behind the net like that and doesn’t wrap it and you got to go post to post and then back? It’s extremely hard. Even when you go post to post and then he does come out a little bit, you bump out and if he just keeps tearing it, you’re kind of dead in the water. So, uh you just kind of hope that you had that pressure to push him back or make him shoot from that angle. But um I mean that’s what skilled guys do and and Ray’s got a ton of that. So all the goal mosted out too. I mean how key was that for everything that happened and Todd’s reaction to last night’s game? Um honestly it was I think a very very big step in the right direction. We we’re really focusing on um playing a very very solid road game. I think not everyone was very pleased with with the call and obviously we got scored on but I think we stuck to our structure. we really made a a push for it. Um, in my opinion, we’re in control of the game for most of the for most of the night and then um, we knew we were going to get a chance and then obviously a great performance by Ray tonight. Defensively, what did you like the way about the way you guys played locking them down, limiting them in shots, too? Just keep him to the outside. We let Tal see the puck. Um, did a really good job of boxing out. The forwards were in lanes. We had some big blocks. Um, and overall just a really good team effort, especially in the Dzone. Um, you know, they’re going to get their chances or somebody will make a mistake, but we were there to pick each other up and, um, found a way to make sure we, um, really defend from the inside. Um, stay compact and, um, it worked. Is the key now just sustain this now and keep it stay consistent with this type of defensive effort? Just overall effort, I guess. 100%. Um that has to be um the kind of mindset to go in every single game. We um we know we’re a good team, but the chance can’t be a one night on, one night off kind of thing. Um it’s been just too many years of that. So I think we got to change the culture right now and um this was a good step especially because the schedule I mean you guys play every other day or back to back now. There’s no there’s no more two practices uh in a row. Honestly, I think everyone will say the same thing. You rather play the games than practice. And um um but it was needed. We we dealt some things out. We got to compete up, I thought, today. Um we’re really solid overall and hopefully we can um continue that in the next couple games. Key was just the start for you guys in sustaining that pressure show throughout the game. Uh yeah, it was big. Um I think just a bounce back from yesterday. Um, you know, I think this was our our most complete game in a long time and um, everyone contributed in their in their own way and um, it was a it was a big one for us for sure. You had a chance to shoot it from the right circle. You had a chance to wrap it around. You had a chance to shoot it from the left circle. Why did you keep it like that? Yeah, I don’t know. Ask myself that sometimes, too. Um, no. I mean, I just try to hold on to it, see what opened up, and uh and I mean, eventually I was kind of by myself in front of the net. So, um yeah, I mean, uh shooting is a big part part of the game and um maybe this time it was it was direct play, not shooting. Did you notice that Quick lost his balance and lost his foot, lost his edge there? Uh yeah, I mean uh kind of when I came around, um you know, he was he was really good tonight. He was good the last time we played him, too. He’s a tough goalie to beat. So, um, even our even our first goal, it was redirect and and find it, but it’s way on the back end of the net. So, um, yeah, happy we got the goal. How do you keep this going now and not have one on, one off? I mean, I think it’s just we we know what to do. Um, and I think tonight was it was a lot of fun. I think everyone realized that and um, like I said earlier, everyone was contributing and it was a solid, mature game, but we still didn’t lose our offense in in any way. So, um, you know, kind of try to copy paste, but, um, make it a habit of of playing that way. I mean, it’s only one game in November that gets back. Did the way after last night ended, was it pretty important to come out here and play this type of game tonight? Yeah, I mean, for sure. I think um, if there’s one thing we’ve learned over these last couple years is how important every game is. And, um, you know, New York is a really good team, especially with with their defense. And, um, they got a good penalty kill and a good power play. So, for us to come out and and play the way we did tonight, I think it was it was huge for us. And um something to build off of much more response tonight. Um no, a really good response. Uh wasn’t real sure how it was going to go. Um obviously, we took one on the chin yesterday and um looking for some of that resilience. We saw it in our group and I thought that was our best overall team game for a full 60 minutes. Check for our chances. didn’t have to play with um a lot of uh carelessness or or recklessness and um found a way and used every minute we had to to win a game. So happy for the group. Was it a good sign to see these guys come out and play the way they did here tonight after last night after what happened last night? Um you know the obvious answer is is yes to that. Like it’s it is a positive sign. Um, I know when we met in the morning, there was it was a pretty solemn group. Um, but we we discussed that we felt we had to address it, but then flush it and get ready to play again. And um, good response. When Quicky’s playing like that, it can get frustrating. Oh, yeah. Right. And and your guys didn’t seem to get frustrated. They kept coming. They kept shooting. They kept finding openings. Is that thing that you’re looking for? the the poise and the the um stick tuitiveness. I don’t even know if that’s a word, but um that’s important, especially when you run into a goalender that’s that’s hot. We’ve really been stressing trying to get to the net and make it hard in the goalenders. I thought we we did that tonight, too. But, uh I was lucky enough to see him do that for a lot of years to a lot of teams, and you just have to stay with it. Eventually, you’ll uh you’ll get an opportunity that he can’t stop, and that was the case tonight. How does physicality and dis defensive disruption push momentum going in the opposite direction? Um well physicality and like the the game all flows together. So physicality is part of it. Um momentum is really just capturing a few minutes of of um play that goes your way and it can come through physicality, shots, uh speed. Um you know so those are ways that momentum is created. That’s how you look at these last two nights, the importance that it is for your team to to get those experiences now. I mean, how how valuable can that be to understand what doesn’t work and then understand what does when you have it in November? Yeah. Well, we back to back. I think we’re always learning lessons. Like the the Florida Panthers have won two years in a row and they’re still learning lessons. Um, you know, we’re probably learning a few the hard way. Um, but that’s could be part of growth. um you’d like to to fix things quicker and and count on them being repaired, but sometimes our group gives it back and and we have to find ways to to continue to push them. Uh but lessons are important, uh especially if you pay attention to them. And I think last night we uh we learned a lesson and we paid attention to it today. And the power play tonight, I mean, you get the one, but it seemed like it was moving probably closing in too, right? It was good. their their best penalty killer was their goalender. Obviously, uh Quickie had a real good night. Um we had some good looks. I think Kainer had an open net and he sure doesn’t miss many of those. So, uh but it got us one and um you know, we ended up even in the the special teams and found a way to score a five on five. You said earlier in the season, you had asked some of the longer time Red Wings, are are we tired of this yet? Is this an example of that? Like tired of what happened yesterday and come back with this? It can be um in this moment tonight. Yes. Um can we bottle this type of game and play on our toes, play aggressive, uh smart, um not careless and reckless. Um if we can keep doing that, then the answer is yes. What have you thought of Lucas’s game here? Has he been building here? I think Razer the last three or four games looks like uh Razer to me. Obviously, the injury and and coming back from it wasn’t easy. Uh but I thought he had a tenacity to him, a physical tenacity to him the last three or four games that we probably hadn’t seen earlier. Uh which is a good sign.

Talbot needs to be the majority starter. He's so much calmer in net, better rebound control and not scrambling around like Gibson is. Quick was exceptional well until the end of the game. But is he's fun to watch in net. Great GWG by Raymond, great patience and composure. Loved the two dark jerseys match up too, two great unis. Nice win but Rangers are awful offensively at home.
We lose this game if Gibson is in net. Good team win though!
Way to recover after whatever yesterday was! ❤
Big 2 points
I get why the scrum happened at the end of the game. The Rangers took exception to Appleton shooting the puck in as the buzzer went. That said.. why did the Rangers mob Larkin?!? He had 5 guys on him almost immediately, and he didn't even shoot the puck. It looked rough.
LGRW. WE LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
So nice seeing asp quarterback the top pp unit. Seider has been a turnover machine on the pp
Strong game tonight, dominant third period, great job, guys! Also, I like Sandin-Pellikka on the 1st power play unit. Seems to have more flow to it.
Talbot's hat is sweet
Good job, boys! That is what I am talking about.
Weirdo has been quiet lately.
It’s a nice bounce back. But they’re going to have to go on a run to make up for what has been so far a wasted home stand. This is a very frustrating team. Some nights they look like one of the best teams in the league, other nights, one of the worst.
Jesus Christ Helen.
Way to dig in boys
talbot should play 2 out of every 3 going forward. he has looked rock solid in every start
Patrick Kane posted 1.26 individual expected goals today, the 6th best total in any game in his entire career. 1312 games. He had 7 shots on goal, 10 shot attempts 9 of which were unblocked, 7 scoring chances, 4 high danger chances.
For the day, the Red Wings power play when Kane was on the ice had absolutely absurd numbers:
6:19 time on ice
21-0 corsi
18-0 fenwick
14-0 shots on goal
18-0 scoring chances
10-0 high danger chances
2.78 – 0 expected goals
If this is how that power play is going to run the rest of the year with Seider off it, it could be a crazy rest of the year for that power play. Esp if the finishing slump gets even a little less bad. Those who don't deal in analytics a lot maybe don't appreciate how ridiculous those numbers are.
Kane should be rewarded for this insane effort by being put with any other 2 players at 5v5.
The Wings have no leverage on Kane. He would get the same top line power play treatment anywhere else he went, and he would take the power play with him for the most part. And if he left, he would truly take it with him – it would not be here anymore. Not like that. It would behoove this coach to stop torturing this player with those linemates.
Talbot hyped: “we played a heck of a hockey game”
Reporter: “last game left a mark on you guys”
Talbot: …uhh yeah
I’m sick of these reporters bumming the players out, stop with the negative questions to get a juicy reaction to write about. Let the guys enjoy their win, they played great tonight
Great effort. You’re gonna lose games this year, just like every team will. But if you play like that all the time you’re gonna win a lot more than you lose
Lgrw
Where is the jared dude who defended copps horrible play the laat 3 years to alex debrincats slow start. Now.debrincat is up to.9 goals.over 20 points yet copp in 19 games has 1 goal… debrincat barely is paid morw then copp. Copp is horrible. And our goalies are a big reason we lose games we have two backups in net both well below.900 on their save percentage for the year
ASP PP1 👌
Red wings fans have no clue what an actual good goalie is. Hellbuyck is good. Our goalies are really bad. Before we nut ride talbot go look at his pathetic stats the last two years and lets look qt his hot garbage stats this year. Talbot a week ago gave up 2 weak goals vs this same rangers team . He is an inconsistent backup
Talbot is the best goalie we've had in years. He should be # 1
Aziz is an EMPTYHEAD TOO. DONT MIND HIS HORSE SHIT OPINION!
Cam Talbot is the best goalie the wings have had in a while.
It's Talbots net, needs to start majority of the games. Gibson is cooked.
the todd father 🫡
ASP should def be our PP1 dman moving forward. Seider has been good in that spot last season but don't know if he is forcing it to much this year, he really have been poor as of late in that role…
If anyone was unsure Lucas Raymond is really good at hockey.
Helene sounding like she should be in a nursing home
The patience showed by Ray there was elite level talent. Great game all around.
Larkin is a third line center on a cup contender
I just checked in with Jonathan Quick, and he’s still crying.
