There’s a new hottest team in hockey (Part 2)

[Music] [Applause] [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] It is Wednesday, November 12th in the United States. In Canada, the Anaheim Ducks have been eliminated from playoff contention. And this is what chaos from the Sports Interaction studio in Boston, Massachusetts. My name is David Bean. I sit beside Pete Blackburn. And across the room is Sean Depaz. Hi Sean. We missed you last night. Hi. I uh Did you miss us last night? I didn’t really miss you cuz you guys I [ __ ] I knew you guys were having fun together. I did. Uh what? So you can’t miss us because you know that we’re having fun together. I mean it should be when you’re missing us. I was more like uh it was more like a FOMO. Like I was You are not invited to the space bike anymore, my friend. I was I was more thinking I wish I was there, not I wish you guys were here type of thing. What I’m getting at. Are we allowed to make space bike merch or is that appropriation? I think that’s appropriation. We got yelled at honestly by Twitter, which it it doesn’t mean anything, but there was a lot of like what are these people doing in in my house kind of talk? In what sense? Like we were talking about like gay hockey stuff. I mean, which like welcome to the show. Yeah. And it’s like we’re we’re all about making hockey more inclusive and Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we uh let’s let’s live together. Let’s live together in the same house. There was a thing a couple years ago where someone posted on the the band Boy Genius on on the Boy Genius Reddit and like the title of it was like been seeing a lot of straight people at the concerts and like not to hate but uh how do we make those go away? You don’t unfortunately. No, I mean Austin opened the door. We’re not getting those sweaters unless they are lowered in price. But like I think there’s I mean I thought they were affordable to to uspower middle class to you upper middle class boys. Okay. Well, we can do I think we can do astronaut merch because the other thing people were yelling at us for that clip was why does one of the guys think it was an astronaut including Pete’s wife and I [ __ ] dunked on it on Instagram. do let’s do a segment called we say what our tweet was or what our what we did on social media. Tell this because this was funny, bro. I was laughing. This was funny, bro. Uh Ellen commented on the the reel that we posted about the the sweater and she was like, “How in the world did you think that that was an or in what world is that an astronaut?” And I said, “Probably in several worlds. That’s how [ __ ] astronauts work.” [ __ ] cooked her ass. So, uh I’m looking for a new wife. called sleep on a couch. Yeah. And now my dog. My couch ain’t that good. A damn that was so good. I tried to reply to it with um the Isn’t there like a popular gift of somebody doing like the temple tap like that? Oh yeah, I wanted but I didn’t I didn’t know how to use social media so which is for the best. I’d be replying to way too many comments and tweets and posts but damn that was good. Yeah, Pete and I had a little uh mom and dad date night last night. Okay. Yeah, we were uh in a group text, Katie and Nolan texted us about uh Ducks jerseys and we were just like going, we were riffing. We were And then Katie side texted me and said, “If you two ever break up, I don’t know what I will do.” And I said, “We’re literally on a date night right now. We are thriving, buddy.” We sure were. We were thriving. It was a unbelievable night. We got to watch uh the Bruins game. maybe the hottest team in hockey. We’ll discuss. And then we went across the street. We watched Duck’s abs. Period of that. Then went home, got a nice little tuck. I slept on the couch. It was beautiful. Oh, it was such a good tuck. I’ve been doing bring the iPad to bed, which goes against a lot of uh habits that have been instilled by me by someone instilled in you in instilled in me by by someone who is not new to trying to keep your brain healthy. How’s the screen limiting going? I’m like a I’m a while into that. Yeah, like we would have broken up after like a month if I was the way that we used to be back in the day. So, like there there will be reminders here and there where she’ll be like, “You have a football game on and you’re on your phone.” I’m like, “Yes.” Text my friends about football. She’s like, “And you have an iPad and a computer.” That’s the psychotic. No, that’s when I watch Sunday, baby. When I’m watching football on Sundays, I have a TV in front of me, a projector on the wall. I probably have the Bills game on my laptop because it’s the only place I can get it cuz I have to stream it uh outside of the bounds of US law. Uh because the Patriots games always get shown here and then I’m tweeting constantly about it on my phone and I mean it’s not psychotic behavior. I think that it’s psychotic that you can do that. Yeah, but it’s something that like you get used to and you know how to do and everything. The one thing I’ll say before we get to the hockey is uh a new thing I’m on and it was because there was an article about how we’re this like this is why we’re losing creativity and it was we wake up and we look at our phones too quickly. So, like this morning I woke up, did whatever, cleaned, tidied up, whatever, took a shower, had breakfast. Like, I did not look at my phone for a good like 40 minutes. See, rock on. And at first, I was like, I’d never be able to do that. But then you think of it, it’s like, what if you just think of it as you slept 40 40 more minutes? I just I don’t know. I like there’s What if something happened? Like I hate I don’t want to get too dark, but like imagine a moment in US history where something massive happened early in the morning. I I don’t want to be awake for 40 minutes before I found out that there was one of the most It’s 40 more minutes of happiness that you would Ignorance is bliss, I guess. Yeah, fair enough. Imagine not knowing about certain things for 40 more minutes. What would you do with that 40 minutes? I just like nothing. You’re not When was the last time you were bored? bored all the time. It’s important. You got to be bored. Yeah, that’s good. Like I feel like boredom is a is a dying art. Now when people are bored, they don’t even know that they’re bored. They’re just like they just turn their brains off and just look at a screen. Oh yeah. I mean like when was the last time that you were bored and were like, I have to find something to do. I don’t know. There’s plenty of times where I I like it’ll be late at night and if there’s not any good hockey on I’ve been playing video games all day, I’ll be like, I guess I should just go to bed now. Like I’ll take a nap or something cuz I don’t know what else to do with myself. Being bored is good. I’ve had in recent years and I definitely have not um practiced what I’ve preached, but I’ve been worried that two things that have gone away are boredom and stories. I we need to have stories. We’re not talking about Instagram stories, friends. Oh, so yeah, back in the day, we used to have this thing where you would say like I I don’t think I have any stories for you because usually you’re with me whenever anything happens, but say we were I’ve heard all of your stories multiple times. Say we’re Yeah, of course. Say we were uh like acquaintances or just like not great friends. I back in the day I would say, “Oh, like a couple years ago I was on vacation and wherever.” and you but now you say like, “Oh, I know that you went on that vacation. You posted about it a bunch of times. You talked about it a bunch of times. You showed this or whatever.” Like I think it’s good for us to have to tell us things that happened to let like years pass before you look back on something instead of like everything is just I feel like I don’t I rarely am sharing what I’m doing with the outside world unless I’m watching a Bills or Sabres game. It’s very obvious because of my Twitter. Like I don’t really post like stories. Yeah. For someone who’s like who’s very online, you’re kind of like dark in terms of activity. I think that’s a very I think I think I people’s uh for I talk a lot and I tweet a lot. I don’t say a lot about what I’m like my personal life and people don’t realize that cuz I talk so much. Same. So exact same when I I have posted pictures of my girlfriend and that’s the first time I’ve ever done that of posting anybody that mattered that wasn’t also an online person. Yeah. And we had to I had to like explain that to her. I was like, “No, like I me being normal would be to never post you because I don’t talk about Yeah. that.” So I I talk as you said like I talk so [ __ ] much, but it’s about Paul Thomas Anderson. It’s not about like my [ __ ] wife and kids. Yeah. We’ve gone 13 minutes and nobody’s mentioned the piss hat. I’m very offended. Well, it’s it’s hard for it to be a piss hat when it’s just a like it piss hat. I agree, but like yellow is their main color, so it doesn’t it doesn’t strike as like a full piss jersey. It doesn’t strike the same way. It’s a good hat, though. It’s a piss hat. It is a good hat. I like your hat. I’m very excited about Shout out to the guy Shout out to the guy at the uh the Bruins Pro Shop who uh who hooked it up. It was It was very nice. So, disco we were debating going with a more expensive hat or the piss hat. I chose the piss hat. I don’t regret it, but would have been nice to get the disco on the uh on the the more expensive. Speaking of hooking people up, um I don’t know if you saw this in the chat at the beginning of the show, but a guy that we and by we I mean fanatics hooked up, Randy Lee, was wearing his Gabe Landiskog jersey at Not only that, but Katie on Instagram on our Instagram story yesterday posted a picture of her in her Gabe Landisogg t-shirt being saying Gabe scoring. I did see that. It’s happening. So big night abs and whatnot. Yep. Shout out to the ABS. Maybe the hottest team in hockey. Let’s discuss. Today on the show, we’re going to talk about the new hottest team in hockey. Stay tuned to find out. Uh Milestone behavior. We had a couple couple big moments last night around the NHL and uh some people got mad at them. We’ll see. Uh Dmitri Philipovich is going to join the show. Our good pal Dim. He’s uh he’s very smart, very handsome, very personable. Very excited to welcome him into the show for the first time this season. And finally, this is hockey, not math class. Yeah, a team had an oopsy daisy. And I’m gonna defend the team on this one. Okay. There was a team that uh might have not known they won a game because they were there to play hockey, not to [ __ ] do pie charts. So, we’ll show you that and it will be incredible. But first, there is a new hottest team in hockey and it is the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche ended the Ducks seven-game win streak last night with a I was deciding how to phrase this like do you say convincing? Do you say borderline convincing? I’ll say it was convincing. It was not a drubbing, but the Avalanche beat the Ducks last night. Yeah, I think it was uh it was very much established that the AS are the more positioned team to be the hottest team in hockey. Granted, they were at home and you know, at some point that steam is going to run out from the Ducks, but it was still that that game, it still delivered. Still delivered. I didn’t consider the Ducks totally dead in the third period. Uh we got to see some good, some bad. I mean, I’ll I’ll call it the tragedy right now that was brought up by the chat already. Gabriel Landiskog scored his first goal since 2022. And if if you know Puck, as we recently learned, Puck, this is something that we’ve thought has happened a couple of times now, but it’s been reviewed. It’s been wiped. It’s been taken off the board. Well, it did happen in the playoffs and accounted in the playoffs. Yeah. No, but but when you like count someone’s like Alex Ovuchkin’s goals, you’re talking it’s assumed that it’s regular season. So, he scored his first regular season goal since de uh since I forget what month of 2022. March of 2022. Congratulations to him, I guess. But I really want him to see I want to see him bury it a couple of more times, have it wiped a couple of more times. I was really really hoping that was going to get called off. Not that it was particularly close to getting called off, but like that would have been awesome. Yeah. And and this isn’t like a thing against Gabriel Andesco. It’s just a uh an enjoyment of I guess I suppose edging. Yeah, that that too. It’s just it’s way more satisfying if you after you’ve been teased a little bit. I say this with the absolute utmost respect to Gabriel Landiskog. We’re done with that [ __ ] now, right? Like no more Gabriel did blank. There is nothing now, right? Like I say this with all due respect. Go away, sir. No. Like have like I want I lead the league in goals. Go crazy. I don’t care. But like we’re done with Yeah. No, I think he’s the return of Gabriel. I think that he’s firmly in the like is an active hockey player camp. He’s okay. He’s healthy. Yeah. He’s back. He’s one of the guys. I’m happy. Like I’m I I am happy that this is the outcome, but I’m done with it now. He’s just another guy. Yes. He’s the captain. He’s their c he’s a very important player for the co for a very good team. Said this last night like last night was a a success for both teams in the sense that Anaheim proved that they are not just like frauds and just hot. Like they they can hang with literally any team in the league on any given night. and the the week that they’ve had where what’s their their last three games it’s been what Winnipeg uh the the Ducks the Ducks uh Winnipeg yes was one of them who’ they beat uh over the weekend I have the worst memory in the world they beat the Jets on Sunday and the Golden Knights on Saturday okay Vegas Winnipeg and Colorado and they beat the Stars on Thursday before that yeah so like they are beating good teams they lost to the ABS obviously But it was a good game. And last night was Florida twice. Last night was the ABS kind of just like putting their dick on the table and saying we’re the hottest Stephven. Well, that’s why I was That’s why I was like I don’t feel like you could say that the ABS won convincingly cuz like that to me implies that the Ducks were [ __ ] or the Ducks got like embarrassed and I don’t feel like that was the case. At least I admittedly didn’t watch the end of that game, but like at least through the first two periods, like the Ducks looked like as respectable as a team of a team as you can find. They got stronger as the game went on, too. I’ll I’ll say it was a real ass hockey game. And there was not, Sean, to your point, a get that [ __ ] out of here backhanded slap from the Avalanche, which I feel with how the Ducks are playing right now, that’s what would be required for it to be a convincing win. So, I’ll just say it was a good win. good home win, doing business as business is done. And the question that we’ll ask when Demetri comes on is like, are they this good? Because we talked a couple weeks ago, Pete said he wants there to be or not, I don’t know if you want there to be, but he’s waiting for it. You’re waiting for there to be a team that is like the monster. I personally like when there’s kind of like four or five and you got to pick your poison and you everyone kind of finds themselves in whatever camps. I think that right now if someone had to pick one to be a monster, it would be the Avalanche or the best offensive team in hockey, four goals a game. Nathan McKinnon is off to an insane start. He has six trillion points in his last three games. I say this as somebody who was a believer in the Avalanche last year when a lot of people weren’t. I don’t I’m I’m not ready to say they’ll be the monster. I think that we’re still in kind of taking turns mode. I think it was Vegas. I think now it’s Colorado. But every number you look at looks unbelievable for them. Yeah. I think the thing that’s kind of impressed me more than I expected is their depth. Like Parker Kelly all of a sudden is a monster, right? Has that not been the thing for them since Yeah. That’s what they’ve been looking for is that like obviously Mar’s there, um, you know, McKinnon’s there, Granton for a while, NASA for a while. Like they’re they’re top six. Lechan, Nichushkin, like they’ve got the big dogs up front. It’s what do you have behind them? And now I feel like their their depth is is way better. I mean, Landis Gogg back, Drury’s good, Parker Kelly, Gavin Brinley, like those guys are all contributing and it’s it’s they just that looks like they’ve kind of filled out their team. Just got uh paid yesterday, did he not? What’s up? Didn’t Brinley just get paid yesterday or like? Yeah, two-year extension, I believe. Uh something was spotted by you, Pete, that brought about a What are we looking at here? Uh Sean, could you show the center ice uh of the avalanche? Let’s uh we’ll get to that. Okay, so there’s Ball Arena, and it’s for their 30-year anniversary. Feel old yet? And it is uh it says it’s XX now. You can give it to me. Sean, what are we looking at here, Pete? It’s the the AS are going XXX mode. I don’t like it. You don’t like the that or you don’t like the I’m making a joke about uh uh XXX. I just I don’t like putting an X watch Maxine last night. You watched Maxine? I mean, I watched the the ABS continue to [ __ ] everybody in the league. So, uh I don’t like putting an XXX there because it’s going to lead to that. Okay. Well, I uh I don’t like it because it doesn’t look good. I That’s my problem. It looks like two X’s really like it like the the second X kind of gets hidden a little bit too much. I just think that the uh center ice logos have had kind of a moment over the last couple of years and they’re getting bigger. They’re getting bolder. They’re getting more colorful. This is like a anniversary one. It should be it should pop a little bit more. That I agree with. I You found an interesting website that shows all of the Center Ice things. Yeah. Winnipeg center ice thing is a goddamn mess. Godamn mess. Um, I forgot what I was where I was going with that, but yeah, it the it could be. Oh, the PWHL the uh Oh, the Golden Eyes. The Golden Eyes. Why won’t the I I’m curious if it’s an NHL thing or just like a respect for tradition kind of thing. Like the the Golden Eyes, their logo like expands outside of the circle. So like like the points of the eyes go outside of the circle. And no one in the NHL does that. And I don’t know why. I don’t know if it’s because like the sponsors or like the arena name that goes around the outside, but like get a little creative. Maybe it’s in the CBA. Yeah. Well, I crazy [ __ ] is in the CBA, so maybe. But I mean, speaking of of uh of CBA and things looking a certain way, seen a lot of discourse about the uh the walk-in fits, not even Austin Matthews, just people complaining that the walk-in fits are boring. And my question is like, what were you expecting? Yeah. I mean, it it’s hockey. And also, they it’s like when I when I graduated high school, I went to a private high school, I had to wear a shirt and tie every day. When I graduated high school and went to college, I had no idea how to dress cuz I spent the last four years wearing a shirt and tie every single day. So, like I don’t know, it might take a little time, maybe eventually. What’s the first team to get a stylist? A team stylist? Toronto Maple Leafs probably. They got I mean they basically employ two stylists. I was going to say I hope Awesome Matthews says keep it. I’m good because Austin Matthews probably has his own. The Avalanche have the best record in hockey, by the way. Uh only one regulation loss this season. The only team to beat them is That’s right. There’s a new hottest team in hockey. It’s the Boston Bruins. The Boston Bruins. I went to that game. I had no idea. I texted Megan Kelly this morning. I was like, cuz you texted me. You’re like, you know, the Avalanch’s only regulation loss was against the Bruins. I was like, “Oh [ __ ] I was at that game. The Avalanche looked completely pedestrian.” And I kind of shrugged it off. That’s their only loss at uh in regulation this season. That is crazy. Um and I I like I had totally forgotten that because it coincided with a Texas football game that I was stressing the hell out over on a Saturday night. So number 10 in the CF pool. Yeah. What? Number 10 in the CF pool. Yeah. Right. So we’re in business. But uh I mean got to ask the question, are the Bruins the best team in hockey? Are they the hot I’m not even Are they Get rid of hottest? No. Are these the best team in hockey? No, they’re the hottest team in hockey because they’ve won seven games in a row. No team has done that actively. The Ducks did it once upon a time, but look what the [ __ ] happened to them. They got to get that [ __ ] out of here. Backhanded slam. No, they’re not the best team in hockey, but uh they’re the best team. They’re the best team in the Atlantic division. I’ll just say that to piss people off. I kid. I I don’t think the Bruins still at this point. I don’t think the Bruins are going to make the playoffs. I don’t think that the Bruins have great things ahead of them. But I remain thrilled with us having a hockey season in Boston and they are the hottest team in hockey. That is just irrefutable. 5-3 kind of like a 5-3 belt to ass turned close game last night against the Leafs. Yeah, there was a little bit of rumpus time in the third period that I didn’t like. I was going to say that the Bruins are still [ __ ] They can win 15 games in a row and that’s why like and when you first said they’re still not going to make the playoffs, I was like I mean I don’t know. And then I’m like, “Yeah, yeah, no, they’re probably not going to make the playoffs cuz they are they still got that [ __ ] at them.” I mean, like, they’re more Oilers than the Oilers this year where it’s like they lost what, seven games in a row and now they’ve won seven games in a row. It’s that might be that might be who they are. It’s just this crazy streaky team. I I wouldn’t expect them to win seven in a row at any point beyond this this current streak, but they’re playing competitive hockey every single night with the exception of that Senators game. And I don’t know, like I’m I’m having a good time. I had a great time. Do we have an Austin Matthews update? Because a few things came from this game, including that Austin Matthews left the game with an injury. Do we have anything outside of just uh after the game, Bubie said, “I thought it should have been a penalty. I didn’t like it.” But he says, “I can’t give you a timeline or how serious it is right now. I’m not sure when he heard it to be honest with you.” So, uh, Matthews left that game. That was a big thing there. But other big things that happened in this game, David Poserno scored his 400th career goal. And this is going to lead to some discourse coming from us fans and even Bruins players themselves. Sean, could you give us the video of David Posnock scoring his 400th goal and what happened after? In for the Bruins. Now, the lead pass moving in on Hill to be scored. knock number 400. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] So, what you see there, if you are watching on YouTube, and if you are not, make sure you’re subscribed on YouTube, is the Bruins emptying their bench to go celebrate with David Posterno in the second period of a game. This again is for goal number 400. And I’m not saying, we’re not saying this to be judgmental because we said it in the moment. We were like, the bench for is 400. Uh, do you do that at 400? Do you just do it every four every hundred goals or do you do it what? I’ll say obviously separate from you I had the exact same reaction just like not necessarily judging but like I didn’t not what I expected. Just asking the just having the question in your head and I’d like to hear everybody else’s thoughts before we get to even more people’s thoughts. I thought it was strange cuz I didn’t remember seeing it at any other point for a 400th goal, but I could be wrong. And uh upon further reflection, I don’t have a problem with it. Number one, because I like the Bruins and I like David Posternok and it was fun. It didn’t delay the game. It was like 30 seconds, no issue. And also, uh I don’t want to get yelled at by anybody. Yes, I don’t want to get yelled at by anybody. I’m here so I don’t get fined. Uh I’ll say that I do like it because as somebody pointed out in the chat, I’m stealing this from whoever said it. It’s good behavior because it was against the Leafs and maybe they wouldn’t have done it against anybody else, but they are just [ __ ] around on Leafs this season. They’re beating them with their former players. They’re making Bunkis want a tank at 401 if pos scored an empty netter, which he could have and he just chunked it. They should have been like, “All right, get him back out.” Just every time David Posnock scores a goal, that’s what they should do for Ovie. It’s like every every goal is the most every goal is the most in hockey in history. make some noise. I would say like if it if it’s against the Leafs, everything is on the table. Like they should have stopped the game and given Alexander Steves a [ __ ] jet ski for scoring against the Leafs last night. Mid game. Very very cool with that. A Jets Steves. So you said that it did not delay the game. It did delay the game, but like 30 seconds. No, I went and watched the goals and timed them from when the horn sounded to when the puck was dropped again because I also I was watching that I was like this doesn’t feel much longer than it was pretty tidy. I that’s what I I was like they got on they got off but they’re probably [ __ ] around for a couple of minutes between goals. We got down there, didn’t he? Yeah. Like he went full full rank. Okay. uh Hampus Lindholm’s goal to make it 2-1 or I’ll do it this. The Bruins first goal from the time it went off of the Zaka’s goal from the time the horn sounded to when play resumed at the next puck drop was 51 seconds. Hampus Lindholm’s goal to make it 2-1. from the time the horn sounded to when play resumed with the puck drop was and this one is just estimated because they cut back during a replay or or the puck had already been dropped and they came back after the replay but I use that to estimate 39 seconds. So we’re looking at so let’s say an average of 40 seconds posture knuckle from the horn sounding to the puck being dropped again was 1 minute and 37 seconds. So, let’s say if we’re going to be generous to the Bruins and their behavior, we’ll say it’s 45 seconds to a minute was added on. I don’t think that’s the end of the world, but it was like they did hold up the game. So, if you’re going to be against it, they did hold up the game. One minute. Yeah. I mean, I am cool with giving a guy one minute for 400. Are you doing it? I don’t have a problem with it. I mean, it’s just like uh it’s it’s I don’t care. Like, it you a little weird. I think it’s like having a a a 28th birthday party. It’s like just wait until 30. Yeah. Not against it. I don’t often do this. Like, I don’t often do this. I think the only people that can complain about this are people who have 400 or more goals in the NHL. Fair. I think that those are the only people that can complain about this. Then why can all those guys participate in it? They don’t have 400 goals in the NHL. This is what they’re didn’t do this. They’re recognizing how difficult of an accomplishment it is. My question that’s why they’re celebrating it. Is I don’t but you don’t see it. But like we don’t know that we’ve seen anybody else do it. I don’t think I do not think this is an openandshot case. I don’t know. I mean, I don’t think it’s an open andsh shut case, but I I think that the people who can who can argue against it and have a solid case are the people with 400 or more goals. That doesn’t I I don’t I only think I like I want to know that’s like big like you haven’t played the game thing. That’s why I say I don’t often do that, but I think that in in this case, if you’re complaining about one minute, you have to have 400 goals. But I don’t think people are complaining about like that’s a minute of time. I think that they’re saying like that’s weird. Are you supposed to do that for 400 goals? Yeah. I mean, I ultimately don’t care beyond my initial reaction of being like, “Oh, I didn’t know you do that. I want to know who the first person off the off the bench was.” Because, yeah, like if it was planned or if somebody was just like, “I guess we’re doing this.” Like, what if [ __ ] Corposal was like, “Let’s go, boys.” If the the backup goalie is the first one off the bench and now everyone’s got to be like, “I guess Slayman’s got to skate down now. I guess we’re doing this.” It led to this tweet from uh the great Kevin Majori who is the producer of Felgar and Maserati on 985 the sports hub. He’s a friend of the show and he is the biggest Bruins fan in the world maybe just mega mega Bruins fan and he tweeted I’ll be the dweeb dot dot dot entire team coming out for a 400th goal is kind of dumb. I think a lot of people were asking the question or I don’t know if they were calling it dumb, but I think they were saying, “Hey, that’s kind of weird.” What’s important about this is Morgan Geeky responded to it on Twitter. And Morgan Geeky, if you do not know, is a roughly annual tweeter. He will check in on Twitter. Maybe he looks all the time, but he tweets maybe once a year. The last time he had tweeted was last December and it’s always to say like relax you stupid hockey fan. So he was here was Morgan Geeky’s tweet. It was uh stick to your day job Kevin. It is incredible because Geeky does pop in and every time it is just to like either tell somebody to calm down or to complain about something and in not in a like not in a way that everybody complains about things on Twitter. It’s I I remember like Connor Geeky got a penalty in the World Juniors uh for just like being too strong and he logged on and was like didn’t know uh you could get two minutes for just being stronger than the other guy and that was his tweet for the year. It was the best. So Morgan Geeky, you are my captain. Okay, we’re got to be by the way. Give him the [ __ ] C. I mean like I am passionate about it now at this point. Morgan Geeky needs to be the captain of the Boston Bruins. I need to say that Pete and I absolutely cleaned up on underdog last night. We went to the game and we filled out an entry for the Bruins game. We did uh Geeky over half a point. Carlo over one and a or higher than one and a half blocked shots. Suck it Leafs fans. He’s not that bad. Nikita Zidorov, we wanted three hits. Pablo Zaka, we wanted a point. That was to 5 point 5.49x. We hit it. We sure did. And then after that, we did an ABS Ducks entry. McKinnon over or higher than half a point. Carlson higher than half a point. Val Nachushkin higher than half a point. Lucas Dostall higher than 23 and a half saves. We moved that one down because we were cowards. Cutter Goautier higher than three and a half shots on goal. That was to 4.7x. And fellas, not for me. I was like 5.5 cuz I used the boost. You used the boost. We 30% boost. Two entries, two wins. We were I don’t know like that’s like 600xing. I’m not a math guy. We’ll talk about that in a second. But uh I got some math for you. If you use code what chaos, you get a $100 in bonus entries when you play your first $5 entry, win or lose with underdog. That was just the best night we’ve had on underdog ever. It was awesome. Yeah, it was play with your buddies. It’s fun. And uh $100 in free bonus entries. Best night you guys had cuz you gatekeeped and didn’t didn’t tell me. Well, you didn’t miss us. So you miss that money. You missed that money now, Sean. Yes, that’s right. Okay, let’s bring on our dear friend Dmitri Philipovich, host of the PDO cast. He joins us now. Dimmitri, how are you, pal? Do we have Dimmitri? Yeah, we’re gonna have Dimmitri. We got him. There he is. There he is. There he is. Hey, buddy. Oh, hi, handsome fella. Nice jacket. Bellas, what’s going on? Yeah, I got the fleece. It’s getting cold here in Vancouver, finally. Outstanding. Uh, are the Avalanche this good? Oh yeah. Yeah. I mean, one regulation loss halfway through November almost is preposterous. I’m not sure if that’s going to continue, but they’re just an absolute buzz saw. I mean, up and down the lineup, the the top line is the best in the league, but the depth is better than it’s ever been for them. They’re getting great goalending out of Scott Wedgwood. And it’s kind of scary to think that once this power play gets going a little bit, they’re going to be beating teams by an even handier margin. So, yeah, I thought the week they had here with a couple statement wins was about as impressive as it gets. You are as good uh a bottom six surveyor as anybody in hockey media. Who uh who has impressed you the most uh from the ABS bottom six? I mean it goes up and down the lineup. Like they split up that second line after a bit, right? They moved Gabe Landisogg down into more of a defensive assignment check and roll because he wasn’t really scoring. And so what they were getting out of him and and Victor Olivesson was phenomenal. Olivessson who they brought in late in the summer for pretty much the league manome just over it is has been nearly a point a game and crushing it on the top unit power play. Um my guy Gavin Brinley who they got kind of as a throwin in that Charlie Coyle Miles Wood trade at the draft is phenomenal. He got a two-year extension here. We were actually joking on on the Sunday show Dance was saying we were going to go watch the ABS while they were in town and playing the Canucks and he was most excited to see Gavin Brinley and then sure enough he goes out and scores the overtime winner in that game. So he wound up sounding pretty smart for that one. But yeah, I mean this team right now, the way they’re playing is just they’re the they’re the best show on ice. Do you So is Britley overachieving or do you think like they knew what they were doing with that coil trade? Because it seemed like they were just trying to get rid of coil to me. They were. But the thing is is this summer with the cap going up, everyone had more space and so all of a sudden these guys who previously would have been pure cap dumps where you would have had to pay to get rid of them were all of a sudden being treated as valuable assets. So they got a couple picks back. They dumped Miles Woods deal which has three or four years left on it. And then Brinley is a guy who he’s undized but he had awesome college numbers. He was playing with Adam Fentili in Michigan and then he had a slow start in his pro career in the AHL but he’s clearly got offensive juice. And this is what smart organizations do. They take guys like this. They give them a chance and and he’s rewarding them for it. Uh so would you say right now like ABS are the top dog in the Western Conference like firmly established after a month and a half? Oh, and the league in general, I think it’s it’s them and then it’s everyone else. I mean, the the statement games that I alluded to, like they go into Edmonton and everyone’s excited about it Saturday night and they just put the boots of them, score nine goals. They were trying to get that 10th one at the end as well and and almost got it. And then I’m sure they got up for that Anaheim game, right? It was kind of being promoted as this first first, second in the league based in points percentage. Everyone’s talking about how the Ducks are this surging exciting team and they just thoroughly dominated them for large stretches of that game on national TV. I I the game I watched in Vancouver was probably one of the worst ones they’ve played all year and I think it was just a matter of like a great team on a second of a backto-back doing the absolute bare minimum to get two points and and they were good enough to do so. But yeah, I mean they pretty much have had no off nights so far. It’s it’s remarkable that they have just the one regulation loss. We talked earlier in the show about how like you take turns thinking who the monster might be. And I think this is probably going to be another season in which there’s just like a collection of four or five teams. Vegas, Carolina, maybe New Jersey if that ends up happening longer there with the usual suspects, Dallas, Edmonton. Who do you think is the biggest threat to the Avalanche? I think just from a historical perspective, it’s got to be Dallas because they’re going to play each other most likely in round two. And Dallas, I know they don’t have Pete Debor there anymore, but they’ve had success against them in the playoffs, even when they’ve had seemingly worse teams on paper. So, it would probably have to be them. And then I guess you go, I know it going to sound silly considering they just beat them 9-1, but the playoff Oilers are going to be different than the October, November Oilers that we’ve seen. And so, that’s probably going to be the biggest test. But, I think this has been huge for them, right? because like for all of these years they’ve had McKinnon and Macar and they’ve been leading the league in points and winning individual trophies. They’ve gotten out of the second round just once and they won the cup that year, but it’s been largely disappointing in terms of actual results. And so last year they use like a million different skaters. They don’t have home ice in round one. They wind up it winds up costing them against Dallas when Rantin just goes nuclear in that third period in game seven. And so I think they wanted to enter this year making a statement getting home ice and they’re well on their way to doing so. Where are you putting the ducks right now? Like in terms of tears, are they are they are you are you pedio merchants? Are they overachieving? Are they kind of establishing themselves as a a real threat? Where do you kind of assess them right now? Yeah, I thought they were going to be like last year’s Columbus and that they’d make a coaching change. All their young players would look way better. They’d be awesome offensively and they certainly have been. I think there’s more substance to it though. Like you look at who’s driving the bus for them in that top six which is all essentially young guys in their early 20s is legitimately dominating. All the underlying numbers are passing everything you’re looking for from those guys. The offense is absolutely lethal. I mean, I know they lost that game and it ended their their uh their winning streak, but the push back they had in that first period where they tie it up, they they they get a bunch of chances and then what Leo Carlson was doing on that type of a stage where even in the third period he’s like dangling around Nathan McKinnon creating scoring chances. I think it’s incredibly exciting and the state of the Pacific is is a part of this, too. like I I with some of these teams kind of dropping off a little bit, I expect Vegas and Edmonton to be there at the end, but I think there’s a very realistic case that they’re already the third best team in the Pacific and certainly one of the eight best teams in the West. So, I I would expect them to make the playoffs despite uh you know, us expecting them to regress a little bit. I just forgot that I haven’t put words in your mouth in like a few months and that’s one of my favorite things to do is just like have a take and then say that I heard it or saw it from you and then people are like, damn, must be smart. I I was listening to your five-parter on the Bruins being the hottest team in hockey and how this is for real. Could you just summarize that for people uh who aren’t Patreon subscribers? Yeah, it was a comprehensive deep dive breaking down every single element of the Bruins and how good they are. I mean, the sevename winning streak is absolutely wild considering the six-game losing streak they went on previously. The only team to beat the affforementioned Colorado Avalanche in regulations. So, that’s quite a feather in their cap. But I mean, listen, like I I thought this might be the worst team in the league heading into the season. And so everything beyond that is gravy. They clearly aren’t because they have a lot of good NHL players and Pastor Jack and Geeki are good enough to to score on any given night with any other opposition. But the underlying numbers suggest that it’s still probably a bottom five team and they’re just running hot. But enjoy it while you can. I think this is the beauty of an 82 game season. You get random runs like this. How like do you do you love Morgan Geeky as much as I do? I do. I mean, I remember being just perplexed that the Kraken let him go. I I know remember he had that qualifying offer and that was the summer they they didn’t want to pay him and Daniel Sprong and they just let those guys walk for nothing. And you know, I was a bit skeptical of the extension they gave him just cuz it was like well a lot of his points were just passion either putting it on a T for him or quite literally using him as a backboard sometimes to just bank it off him and into the net. And so I don’t know if you want to pay a premium for that, but they had the cap space and he’s still in his prime and and he’s good. I mean, he’s running absolutely red-hot right now. Pretty much every time he shoots the puck, I I expect it to go into the net, regardless of where he is in the offensive zone. So, I think he’s really fun to watch. And just the two of those guys cooking is is worth the price of admission. Okay. Uh we talked the other day about where O’Reilly, Stamos, like where all these guys go. And Pete and I have a a thought on one team for some of these guys, but I’m interested if there are any standout options for like specifically Stamos. If something ends up happening there, who should be in on him? I think a lot of teams would theoretically be in on him just cuz he’s Steven Stampos and he’s got that name reputation. I don’t know though, man. like the 8 million he’s owed for two more years after this one. It’s a lot even with everyone having cap space and he’s just so limited as a player right now. Like every once in a while he’ll just hammer one from that left circle and it’ll look cool. But he’s not really providing much more than that at this point. So I feel like a serious contender certainly wouldn’t want to use their cap space on that. I think it would have to be a team that’s just looking to generate fan excitement and be like, “Hey, we have Steven Stampos on our team. He’s going to score a couple power play goals. It’ll be it’ll be fun. you should come to our games. But I’m not sure if he’s going to want to move and do that at this point of his career. So I’m not really sure what the market is like for either him or Marsho given how much money he’s still owed to them. So I’ve got one for you then. The Blackhawks trade for him and it puts you in a position where and I talked to Pete about this like you’d have to make sure that Stamos is on board with it but trade for him now and say do we think we’re going to be a playoff team? I don’t know, but let’s see where this can go. And we’ll have Nashville eat a little money on this. And if it doesn’t work out, by the time we get to the deadline, 75 days will have passed and then we can eat money on you and really get you wherever you want to go. Because any team that might be interested in Ste Steven Stamos, like real contenders, some of those Western Conference teams, they don’t have 6 million to 8 million to add Steven Stamco right now. So the Blackhawks could get him, draw up excitement, see what he can do for them. Obviously, he brings in some leadership. And if it doesn’t work out, then they just eat a little more money and probably get more for him than what they gave up. And I think everybody wins because Stamos ends up in a place where he can contend. And I and I’ll jump in here and say I think that Ryan O’Reilly to Chicago makes way more sense to me just in terms of the fit and trying to push this thing forward. like having Ryan O’Reilly go to Chicago where they actually need that center reinforcement and a guy who can teach Baddard like the defensive aspect of the game and have him learn from Ryan O’Reilly would be such an incredible fit and they’ve got the money to spend. So like where do you where do you stand on that? I like the I like the stam coast of Chicago just from the like excitement perspective trying to build off this early season momentum and and giving a guy on the opposite flank for Bard to play with on the power play and just giving him another shooting option. I think that would be exciting. I’ve actually got a better landing spot for O’Reilly for you guys if you want to hear it. Let’s go. I think the Devils are the best fit for him. Now, he doesn’t have any trade protection, and even dating back to last year, we’ve heard all the reports are the Predators are going to treat it as if he does. They’re only going to trade him to a place he wants to go. Um, I think he would be a perfect fit for the Devils because he gives him a bit of optionality. Like, they don’t necessarily need another center. They’ve already got Jack Hughes in his year, but Jack Hughes is historically bad at faceoffs and O’Reilly is still one of the best in the league at that. So, he’d give them a really valuable weapon there. He’s so good at netfront to play off of some of those talented puck carriers they have. And then the contract where he has one year left on his deal. And I think the Devils want to get better, but they don’t want to take on a lot of future money because Quinn Hughes is going to be a UFA in the summer of 27 and they want to clear as much money as they can so they can build out their team that summer. And that’s exactly when O’Reilly’s contract expires. So there’s no real downside in terms of it not working out by the time they remake their team. and in the short term for this year and next year he’d help them a lot. So I feel like O’Reilly makes a lot of sense for them. That that would be that would be perfect. U you you you’ve tolerated the Stam Coast thing which I appreciate. Do you think that teams will or should already have their wheels turning though on like how do we work around this double retention constraint that’s put into place now? Yeah. Yeah. Certainly. Yeah, I we were talking about in the summer and we spoke about it with a player agent and and he indulged us and and thought we were on the right track about it in terms of teams potentially. It might not happen this year, but in future years like almost playing this out a year ahead because I think there’s there’s that window where you have to wait until you can retain it again. And so essentially, I think we’re going to see teams try to map this stuff out well in advance where they acquire a guy, use him for half a season, and then trade him again. So, it’s going to take a while for that sort of stuff to play out, but I think we’re actually going to see some some pretty creative trades. It’s going to take a player being willing to essentially move their stuff and their family and just stay in a place for a couple months knowing they’re going to be moving again, but especially if they don’t have trade restrictions, they don’t really have a say in it. So, I think we’re going to see those types of deals facilitated. To continue picking at the carcass of the the Predators, would you, if you’re a team that needs a goalie, would you take a chance on UC Soros at this point given that contract situation? a thousand%. I mean, you look at the goalie market and at this point, especially after Marks resigns as well and and he goes off the market this summer, like there’s just no there’s no one available. Like, you’re going to have to trade for someone if you want to improve your goalending. And the team in front of him has been so bad that I’m almost willing to throw out all the numbers. Like, you look at his workload this season and he’s pretty much first in the league in every single volume category in terms of shot quantity and shot quality. And he’s still so athletic and and in his prime. And for goalies, it’s less of a concern about age. Like I I feel like he’s going to he’s got four or five more good years left in him. So that would be an incredibly exciting option. I think for the Predators, it’s almost like they’re not going to treat it as a sunk cost, right? Because they wound up trading Ascarov because they committed to Sorrowos. And so now they’re going to need to make sure they get something legitimately great back to justify that decision. They can’t just trade him to get rid of his contract and then all of a sudden now they got rid of Ascar for nothing. So you’re going to have to entice them that way. But any number of teams right now that could use a goalie upgrade. Like I feel like Sorrowos is certainly the best player available. It just feels more Seth Jones to me than it should though in that like anyone who’s going to trade for him. Like would you like would you like Sorrowos on your roster? Of course. But who that’s going to trade for him has $7.7 million in cap space to give to him right now? And if you’re the Predators, I agree with you. You can’t just give him away. like your best bet might be, you know what, we’re going through a rebuild and let’s unfortunately put him through it and hope that in 3 4 years he’s still okay. Which I have questions about because he is a little bit of a thing and I don’t know how like even if he stays athletic, I don’t know. Like I’m getting shorter as time goes on because I have shitty posture. What’s that guy going to look like when he’s 38 years old? You think he’s going to shrink in the next couple? I think he’s going to shrink. Old people shrink. That’s what they do. Yeah. There’s science behind it. My grandfather got so small. Yeah. I mean, he’s such a physical freak, though. And honestly, like, at the end of the day, hockeyy’s an entertainment product, right? Like, you got to sell tickets, you got to sell jerseys, and goalies generally are pretty boring for the most part. Like, they’re very weird personalities, but their whole job is to erase fun from the game and try to stop goals from happening. And Saros is one of the actually legitimately fun guys to watch in that position. And so, entertainment wise, that’s an upgrade. And I think in terms of stopping the puck, it’s also an upgrade. So, I feel like it makes sense for the Predators to keep him from that perspective, but also if you’re another team, I feel like I’m not nearly as worried about it as you seem to be. This is um since we’re talking about goalies and we haven’t mentioned where we think they’re going, but obviously any Jussi Sorrowos/Galie trade talk has Oilers uh fingerprints all over it. What do you think the next couple of years of Stuart Skinner’s life is? because he’s making under $3 million a year right now and like he’s a free agent. I is Is going to I mean, who knows? Maybe he goes on another run and finishes the job this time and you say, “Okay, well then he has to be the guy there.” But like what do you think just his future holds in the NHL? I mean, it seems like he’s going to have regardless a backup spot for the next 10 years if he wants it because he seems like a great guy. Everyone loves him and on this stage for the Oilers like with how they play defensively sometimes and some of the mistakes he makes it gets really amplified. So everyone’s like, “Oh my god, he sucks.” But then you actually look at the totality of the work and it’s like he’s probably a league average guy and he’s getting paid as such or even below that. So I feel like he’s going to have a job in this league kind of like what the the career Jake Allen has carved out for him. I kind of see that as being a realistic path for him. But the Oilers fit for Sorrowos would be hilarious because one of Stuart Skget Skinner’s deficiencies is the lateral movement and is a bit awkward sort of mechanics doing that and Saros is the most athletic goalie in the league. So all of a sudden going from this guy who cannot go post in time to a guy who’s doing that better than anyone probably ever would be a remarkable thing to watch. I mean stylistically and visually you could not get more different between those two goalies. And I was saying like it sounds stupid but I’m like I don’t know. I I’ve seen the Oilers make these runs and I’ve liked the way that I’ve liked what’s happened. I It doesn’t always look amazing, but I’m like I can’t imagine going from a moose in net to like a small little guy, but a moose to a mouse. A moose to a mouse. Exactly. But as you say, I think when you see the way the mouse moves, you get over that real quick. Yeah. Yeah. And also, I feel like, you know, it’s tougher to quantify for us, but there is a psychological element as well with goalending where it’s like if you don’t trust the guy who’s your last line of defense. You’re going to play a little bit different offensively in terms of the risks you take, kind of going up the ice, activating in transition. And so, Sorrowos is and has been one of the best goalies in the league at at that lateral movement and stopping two-on-ones or breakaways. And so, all of a sudden now, I feel like the Oilers would probably get a little bit more unleashed offensively as well, just in terms of some of the chances they’re willing to take. and it costing them. And so I feel like that would make a lot of sense. It would certainly be a massive commitment and they’d have to figure out the logistics of it, but just from a a fit perspective, it would be a massive improvement. All right, I’m in. Eat half, Barry. And uh you’ve got yourself a deal. I think if the Oilers are looking at thinking about what it looks like for go the goalending situation, it should be a blank canvas cuz all that [ __ ] matters is that the puck stays out of the net for that team. So, and that the goalie stays in the net. Yeah. Well, I mean, if if he wants to to hang on to possession and keep the puck away from the other team, that can work, too. Also, you guys you guys saw that last Chris Nlock interview after the I think it was after the ABS game, right? Or it might have been the Columbus game, but they’re like, “Has have the guys lost trust in him?” And he’s like, “I don’t believe so, but it was the least convincing show of support I’ve ever seen from a coach.” I’m like very over blaming everything on Stu Skinner, but it doesn’t matter. And I’ll borrow from what Pete was saying earlier about the the Bruins and celebrating Posox 400th. It doesn’t matter whether fans like myself or media are over Stuart Skinner. Like too bad. If the team is over Stuart Skinner, it sucks and I don’t think he deserves it. But if the team actually doesn’t have confidence and for some reason they’re like we’re not going to win with this guy even though we came very close to winning with him and he did enough to have us win but we just didn’t score a goal in game or two goals in game seven anyway. Like if they think that way then it sucks cuz you can’t move on from 23 people including two of the best players of all time. Like that’s where I’ll allow it. If the team, even if it’s irrational, thinks they can’t win in front of him, then [ __ ] Like, you do have to move on. Yeah. I don’t know if the team does. I mean, it seems like he’s very beloved and he’s been there for a while and and I I feel like the players probably still are like he gives us a chance to win. I feel like it’s probably more of a coaching thing at this point because Chris Albok’s having to answer all the questions about it and he’s getting fed up with it. Um, as we’ve seen him kind of go to Calvin Pickard who’s objectively a worse goalie than him at times in the playoffs. So, I feel like that’s the root of it. Um, but I don’t I don’t think the I can’t imagine the team is like, “Oh, we need to get a better goalie.” Although, I’m sure if Soros walked in the door, they Conor McDavid and Leandre side would be pretty excited. Uh, we love the PDO cast. Tell us about what uh what your structure is these days because I know you changed it before the season. Yeah, so we still got the two or three shows a week on on the main feed you’ve been listening to for years. We’ve got a Patreon now as well doing a couple extra shows there every week and a newsletter and some mailbags from listeners and all that stuff with Discord access. So, uh, join us there if you enjoy the show. Uh, we got a lot of good stuff coming. I’ve got Pete on tomorrow. We’re doing a little home and home. So, um, if you enjoy listening to us chat, and I can’t imagine anyone listening to this doesn’t, then uh, then please subscribe and join us there. And, uh, and we’re going to have a lot of fun stuff coming uh, the rest of the season. Dimmitri, you positively rule. We, uh, we love when you come on. I we all listen to the show, but like especially going into playoff series like I that is the quintessential content that must be consumed because you get beyond just here’s where they are in goals per game or whatever and like you you delve into style, you delve into obviously analytics, but like in a very very consumable way. There’s nobody better at what you do than you. Thank you so much for joining us. anytime, guys. Love chatting with you. All right, that is author of How the Bruins Will Win the 2026 Stanley Cup, Dimmitri Filipovich. Um, during that, we got a little bit of breaking news. Give it to me. Uh, Matthew and Brady Kachchuck just announced on the Pat McAfee Show that they’re launching a podcast called Wingmen with Matthew and Brady Kachchuck through Wave Sports and Entertainment, which will be the NHL’s version of New Heights with the Kelsey brothers. The show will air every Wednesday. Oh boy. Here’s the problem. Which one of you is dating? Taylor Swift. Well, I mean, New Heights was a popular podcast before. It was a popular podcast. It was not like the most important podcast on the planet. I don’t think anybody’s expecting the Kachchuck Brothers to have the most important podcast on the planet. Yeah. I just I I worry. I do too. I hope they have a good editor. Who’s the Jason? What’s that? Who’s the Jason in that in that in that brotherhood? Cuz like it’s definitely Brady. But is he a Jason or is he just not Matthew? Brady isn’t that charming like like me like Jason has a bit of like uh of dad to him around Travis where he’s like like especially when you know their story and like Travis was getting in trouble in college and it was Jason that was kind of like vouching for him with coaches like it’s almost like a father figure type role. I don’t know if they’ve got that is Keith is the Jason then. I’m sure Keith will be on that show quite like that show is probably going to be wildly successful. Yeah. I mean I think it’s going to be entertaining. It’ll be or interesting at least. That’s what I would want though. I would want Keith to be a regular on that show or like it would be best if Keith was like the producer. I was going to say I want Keith there. Third voice. I don’t need him I don’t need it to be Wingman with Brady Matthew. got to be careful with though is I don’t want anybody and I’m sure that there are going to be people in the chat who say this save it or say it if you want like and subscribe that they’re sick of the Kachchucks. Mhm. You can’t I’ve never gotten close to being sick of the Kachchucks but I don’t think that there’s so much Kachchuck content out there. So maybe that’s why I’ve never been sick of them. Yeah, but I mean like if if you’re sick of the Kachchucks because they have a podcast. Sean hit some Sounders. Do we have uh Oh, no. DJ’s uh DJ’s waiting for the Ray Lewis podcast to listen to instead. No, if you’re sick of if you’re sick of the Kachchucks, then because they have a podcast, don’t listen to their [ __ ] podcast. That’s a choice. the I mean I will say to a certain extent like with the new heights thing kind of hard to avoid to a certain extent especially once Taylor got involved but yeah I mean just don’t listen to it and also like hockey is not in a place where we can pick and choose our personalities like if they are generally likable people or I think if they’re generally entertaining people Yeah. and they’re not being actively problematic in this in this content then like you got to take it. I guess I’m I’m actually like I’ I’ve gone to I’ve gone to from worried to excited about this in the span of like 45 seconds. Um I I’m looking forward to the discourse of like anytime one of them has a bad game and then they have to record a podcast the the day after and it’s like oh you had a bad game and now you’re going to record a podcast with a a different player on a different team in the league. It’s very NBA. Yeah. that I was going to say that’s why it’s important or that’s why it worked so well for Draymond Green because nobody thought that Draymond Green was that important anymore when he started his podcast except for Draymond Green except yeah he didn’t know that but I was like I would listen to a Draymond Green podcast the next morning after they lost and I wasn’t thinking like damn if only you were practicing more your team would have won. Draymond Green didn’t make a difference at that point anymore. And also like they don’t spend 24 hours a day at the rink. Like they are they they do spend time. Would you rather them take steroids like other guys on the Panthers? They but they do spend time doing other things that are not actively making them better at hockey. So if they’re spending that like I don’t think they’re I don’t think [ __ ] Matthew is being like, “Hey coach, gota got to skip out of practice early Paul so I can go record my I’ll tell you this. If I’m a Panthers or Senators reporter, I am requesting Matthew and Brady Kachchuck every day making them do their 20 minutes to to like don’t get don’t think oh like I said on the pod I I’m doing my media by doing my podcast today. That’s not what it is that this is an additional thing that you are doing. So don’t want to see those boys stiffen the local media. Okay, you be nice to Bruce Gary and David Dwark and all of these legends that we have covering these teams. Uh Tokyo Sexwell makes a good point that uh or I think it was Tokyo up. Yeah. The they lost so much toughness like two guys who love to chirp you just chirp back like why don’t you go do a [ __ ] podcast you nerd. If Trent Frederick could get his game back or to where it was the day that he made PK Suban want to quit life. Why don’t you go put it on your podcast and they’d be like dude like we’re we’ve it’s it’s me. We grew up together. Leave me alone, dude. Also, the Olympic episodes, like once they get around Olympic time, that shit’s going to rock. They can’t fight though. It is smart to launch it now ahead of that. They won’t be able to fight though. They they can’t replicate that that moment. Yeah, but I mean they’ll they can still be Olympic heroes. TJ Oshi didn’t have to fight to be No, that’s very true. And I mean, they’re going to be able to have What did TJ do in the Olympics? Is there a skills competition? Didn’t even play hockey. Didn’t matter. It was stupid. Another good point by Tokyo Sec. I’d much much much rather have a Hughes Brothers podcast because then it would just be Quinn Hughes every week logging on to just like talk about how much his life sucks. Welcome to Someone’s Got to Say something. I was going to say on paper like I guess by the standards with with which you would normally judge a podcast would be the single worth podcast of all time. Yes. But it would be my favorite. Tremendous content. Do you think that we could set that up? We would just be like, “We’ll pay you guys whatever you want. We’re upper middle class. We’re We need you for a day. We’re going to record. We’re not going to be there or we’re going to be there, but we’re not going to be on it. We’re going to be off camera like when uh like the small talk thing.” Mhm. Well, and like we we can get we can help facilitate, but we won’t be helping facilitate. We will set it up, turn on the cameras, say like, “Okay, go.” And we’ll have an animation. It’ll say, “Someone’s got to say something with the Hughes brothers.” and it’s them with three mics and they’ll be 5 minutes long and we’ll record like five of them. It will probably take like the whole day, but that would be a hit. You know the podcast of all those like 10-year-old boys that and talk about what pizza toppings are boys? That is the Hughes Brothers podcast. Yeah, but it’s just Quinn talking about like why he wants to die. Yeah. Yeah. I would I would that would be my favorite podcast. Yeah. need suggestions and we just be like existentialism. [Laughter] Uh wanting to not be where you are. You’re uh the the old guy who calls the shots on the team talking about your business. Just suggestions. Which players do you need to resign to stay in Vancouver? Yeah. Is there any way you could stay in Vancouver? What’s uh do we like Elias Patterson today or no? possibilities would be endless. It would be incredible. Okay, we’ve got uh a little math to do or how do we put it? Uh math came up in the league last night and the Columbus Blue Jackets said they were not interested in it. Here is the end of the Blue Jackets. God, who are they playing, Sean? Do you know Kraken? Oh, Blue Jackets Kraken. Yes, because this clip is brought to you as courtesy of the Kraken Sports Network. Thank you very much. See, he’s a little detective. Blue Jackets Kraken. This is how the game ended for the win and he gets it. Two-1 the final in a shootout. Columbus comes away with the victory over the Kraken on a Tuesday night. And not to name names, but who scored? Who’s three on the Blue Jackets? I’m like a horrible Blue Jackets head right now. Blue Jack Coyle. It’s Charlie Coyle. Charlie Coyle. Charlie Coyle. Yes, Charlie Coyle scores the gamewinner in the shootout. Round three of the shootout, it cuts back to the bench and you see, I’m not naming names, Adam Fantelli and Cole Cinger just looking straight ahead like, “Okay, who’s next? This ended the shootout. This ended the game.” And our guy Carell Marenko is pushing people on the bench being like, “Get off the bench and celebrate. We’ve won the game.” I mean, I I don’t like naming names there because even though you didn’t name names, I don’t like naming names because literally everybody on the bench except for Carl Marenko was not interested in ending the game. Can you go? Not a single like even Shawn Monahan wasn’t sure. Shawn Monahan was like maybe leaning but he wasn’t he wasn’t getting out there. Carl Marenko was the only one actively trying to get off the ice. He must have felt so crazy. Yeah, because he was like he was being gaslit by 23 other people. And can we can we watch the goal again? Because is it possible that they didn’t know whether or not? No, I mean that was clear goal light is on strong point from the ref. Yeah, that is just simply they were not tracking how many goals had been scored and I believe that made did that make 2-1 in favor of that was yeah of the Blue Jackets. So two is more than one. That was just they didn’t they they didn’t want to adult today. They didn’t have the math ready to go in their brains. I like the urgency of Carl Marenko because it had an energy of like you [ __ ] idiots. Like what what are we [ __ ] doing here? Get on the ice. Somebody in the chat says Jack Greavves was halfway to the bench. So Jack Greavves knew. Carl Marenko knew. So that’s two. That’s not bad. Marchenko had big Ferris Beer energy there. I was like, what are you doing? It’s over. Go. Uh but we’ve talked about often that like the worst part of hockey is when a goal is scored because it stops the hockey. Maybe the Blue Jackets just love hockey so much that they were willing to ignore or pretend that they didn’t know that the game was over so that they could continue playing hockey. Could we get eyes on friend of the show and noted shootout hater Zack Warky? Can you see if we can get Zack Warky there? Because that’ll be the real test. If he wanted He wouldn’t want the shootout to keep going. That man hates the shootout. He thinks it’s stupid. Uh uh is no. No, that’s that’s Cylinger. That’s Fantelli. That’s Marenko. That’s Didn’t see him. I bet I bet Warensky was already down the tunnel. He was like, “Not my hockey.” I bet he’s in the locker room. He’s like, “I’m a conscientious objector to the shootout.” This guy, he was on the end of the bench, right? Does Does he look startled at all? Like like seconds ago he realized like maybe one second ago he realized, “Oh, we’ve won.” Also, I interesting behavior. Only one man, Sean Monahan, paying any attention to Jack Greavves. Everyone else is going the other way. This game was famously uh on West Coast time. Maybe they watched the Bruins game, saw everybody complaining about getting on the ice to celebrate David Posterno’s 400th goal, and they said every goal now. They said, “You know what? If you want to complain about this, we’ll stay on the bench even when we win the game.” I don’t know if they So, I liked where you were going and then you you ended up in a different parking spot than I would like. I think Darnner’s voice. I think Yes, I think they saw that and they thought I don’t like that smoke all the Bruins caught. Let’s just not celebrate goals anymore. Let’s We’re a hardworking team. We don’t want to make it about us. We don’t want people talking about how we reacted to the end of this game as we’re doing right now. We need to make sure that we keep a low profile and just wait maybe we’ll wait the 45 seconds it usually takes for the game to resume. And if it does not resume it means the game is over and then we head down the tunnel, see our guy Zach Warsky who’s long gone. I think that mo that’s a good theory. I think the most likely outcome here is that they fell asleep because they were watching a hockey game that involved the Seattle Kraken. You got to respect the Seattle Kraken. Yeah, they’re I know that’s that’s disrespectful, but I mean I still The Islanders were the Islanders were have been a playoff or borderline playoff team the last few years and they’ve still been the most boring team in hockey. So, I can’t judge. I might Do we reach out to Orenky today and be like, “Don’t name names, but could you tell us to the best of your knowledge?” You can ask around. I think really we’re getting this best from Marchenko, but can you tell us who knew you’d won and who knew you didn’t? And then we could have little like fun scarlet letters on the players who did not know they won. Do the the uh sorry Pete the uh Robert California list. Just put them on each side. Yes. Don’t label it. Let them figure it out. And it’s just Blue Jackets players and real ones will know. Winners and people who don’t know they won. Let’s keep an eye on the Blue Jackets Twitter feed today just to see if they call up like 16 guys from Cleveland and see if they healthy bomb half the [ __ ] roster for not knowing the game. Yeah, be more locked in. Uh I don’t feel like anybody mentioned this last night. I want to I think it was the Ducks uh ABS game. I forget who it was. A Ducks player was interviewed after the going into the second intermission and mentioned that they were playing music during the first intermission to get them locked back in. Hm. That’s interesting, right? Very important chat. Declan in the chat says they were watching on iPads on the bench and the ESPN delay [ __ ] them. That’s it. There we go. Cole Cinger, you are free. Adam Fantily, I can’t believe we ever doubted you, my friend. You’re all good. No Scarlet Letters. They got ESPN. Happens to the best of us. Go live, my friends. And and it would be Marenko who doesn’t listen to music, doesn’t do any of that [ __ ] no screen time. Just goes out there, makes plays, and he’s like, “Brother, they got it right here. Charlie Coyle scored.” And they’re like, “We’re watching uh like Fanti’s watching himself shoot first.” He’s like, “No, man. Coyle’s not out there right now. [ __ ] ESPN.” Is this a candidate for dumb [ __ ] of the week? I don’t know if you’re talking about this segment or this moment, but either way, yes. No. Unsurprisingly, they are eating up this segment. This is the type of thing that uh it’s very important we do. Okay. It’s also very important that we uh actually let’s quickly look at the Do you have the Slovakia Olympic jerseys? Yes, I do. Sean Banger, it’s awesome because I know recently I’ve said a couple of times that I hate British people. It’s very important that like I don’t actually hate them. It’s just in the context of a fun rivalry between the same way I feel about Canada. I don’t hate Canadians, but also [ __ ] Canada. And I love the fact that every single jersey we’ve seen has been [ __ ] awesome and the Canadians look like idiots. Canada is in trouble. Canada is in trouble. We are only We are We are only seeing good uniforms rolled out following the mess that we saw Canada reveal. You know what Canada’s going to be at the Olympics? You know that meme of the uh the person who dressed up as like the the Mama Duke or whatever it is for the Halloween party and everybody there is just drinking wine in their normal clothes like an adult Halloween party and there’s just that one person dressed like the [ __ ] devil. That’s uh that’s going to be the goddamn Canadian hockey team at the Olympics. They are going to look like absolute bozos as everybody else came dressed like adults. Or to the bozo point, the meme of all of the troops waiting to go around the corner and then there’s just the one guy dressed like a clown. That’s Canada. Ambassador to Greece says, “I didn’t know that Slovakia had mountains like that.” Oh, buddy. They got mountains like that. CCTV Coffin Flop says, “A jersey where the mountains are always blue. Sign me up.” Yes, brother. Imagine having a cold one in that one. Damn. Slovakia’s uniform. This is a good uh the best looking quarterfinal knockout for sure cuz they aren’t making it much further than that unfortunately. Oh no. Look good, play good. Fair enough. Canada out in the group stages. Love it. Give me the slate, Sean. Let’s see it. It’s a It’s not a robust a robust one, but it’s a kind of Wednesday one. We got the Rangers and the Lightning. The red hot New York Rangers. That’s right. The when will although they’re on the road [ __ ] Predators. They’re on the road. I kicked that ass though. I put belt to ass. Rangers are home scoring merchants and they can only win at home now. Now on the road. It’d be so funny if they just like followed that up by getting shut out like six times in a row on the road. It’ be the best. Careful what you wish for. 7:00 p.m. Eastern. That one’s on TNT. And I’ll tell you what, TNT had a good night last night. So, let’s keep it coming, friends. Then you’ve got the possibly back and possibly new hottest team in hockey, Edmonton Oilers on the road against the Flyers. 7:30 p.m. Eastern. I do need to note that during the Amazon broadcast, which I did not love, they said as the Oilers were about to lose that game the other day, they were like, “You know what? They go on a road trip after this. Sometimes it’s just best to get out there on the road.” And going into the Colorado game, the talking point was they played on the road so much this year. They just need to be at home. And then they got their ass kicked worse than anyone’s ever gotten their ass kicked. And during the next game that they ended up winning, they’re like, “Yeah, looks like they got to get these guy these guys got to get out of their own beds.” Yeah. But they had like a business trip to start the year where they were away from home too long. Then they got home, got their asses kicked, and now they’re getting sent to like uh like military school where they’re get out of the house, go learn something, and then come back when you’re ready to play. Okay. Uh then the highlight of the evening is I’m doing it and I don’t mean to do this this often. I think a double must win. Buffalo Sabres at Utah Hockey Club. Both teams need this one bad. My friend Sean Sabers are just in a really rough spot right now. Like Ras is still in Sweden. Yuri Kulic is out for who knows long because he has [ __ ] blood clots now. like the Sabres are in a tough are in rough shape and I’m definitely afraid that we’re going we’re in the middle of another season where there’s this massive built-in excuse that prevents them from actually analyzing what the team is. But Utah needs it. I will say that after they haven’t been playing as well after they were playing incredible. Yeah, but Utah I mean Utah definitely needs it. Must win is very that’s very liberal usage of must win. I need you I’ll clarify. Uh the when I say must-win, it’s as I said the other day, it’s never serious because mustwins are never games where the team actually must win the game. It’s the stupidest thing in the world that you say. So when I say double must win, I’m saying both teams want to win this game. And you say both teams want to win every game. Like Sabres need something good to happen. Utah definitely needs something good to happen. And Savers, I would say it’s less of a must-win because they’re like, “We’re going to we’ll we’re going to have good streaks and bad streaks. This is what we do.” Yeah. I mean, like I said, they’re banged up. Uh they were the first team to get to practice in the new the first away team to get to practice in the new Mammoth facilities, so that’s fun. Uh but yeah, I don’t have I don’t have high expectations for the Buffalo Sabres. We do need obviously this is chance two for Michael Kering to get on the board. Yeah, we need a kessle ring goal, especially after he blew the one in the in in Buffalo. Uh, Saber’s not eating right now. Also, not eating right now is Jason Zooker has not eaten solid food in uh over a week. Yeah, I forgot about 10 days. That team is the team is in like is in really rough shape. The last time the Sabres played, they had two guys who spent most of last year in the AHL on the first line with Tage Thompson. So, things are not going. Chat says, “Imagine a Lion versus Vamela goalie fight.” That’s what we need to watch out for in some of these games. Like, which game if there would be a potential amazing goalie fight? Alex Lion verse anybody at this point would be an incredible goalie fight. Alex Lion’s going to find a sword. Lion versus Veggie. Oh man. Yeah, that’s the thing. Like Lion, you need to pat him down before the fight. Put it through the metal. I think there needs to be like a twostep process of verifying that he doesn’t have a weapon on him. VBY Valentine asks in the chat, “Is there a first away team practice in Utah facility souvenir t-shirt?” Yes, I would love that. I was going to say like uh invisibility here. I think I don’t I think Lion is nuts, but he is like a good boy. Like he I he doesn’t strike me as somebody who’s going to fight. He likes playing with swords, not using them. He’s like a crazy dog who’s not a not a threat to bite. Yes. Yeah. All right. Give me the tuck. I think this is a good tuck. It’s a Ryan O’Reilly bowl. Uh TNT has it for you. The Devils at the Blackhawks. This is Taylor Hall. It’s a It’s an actual Taylor Hall. It’s a potential Ryan O’Reilly trade bowl or Steven Stamco or a potential Steven Stamco trade bowl. Yeah. 9:30 p.m. Eastern. That one is on TNT. We know that this is an A minus, but for a light slate, only four games, I should be interested in all four of these games. You can guess which one I’m going to maybe uh skip. Are you going to maybe um don’t want to lose maybe start your night at 7:30? I might be starting my night at 7:30. Well, I think based on the national broadcast of it all, the New York the Rangers in Tampa might be starting Oh, true. Yeah. I’m going to start at 7:48 to be We’re going to start at 7:30 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mhm. Yes. And it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to see Gan. So, that’s going to be important. That’s going to be appointment viewing. I [ __ ] hate the Oilers. I feel like we’re being robbed of a lot of like late later games early on in the year. Like, you don’t like the Oilers being on the East Coast? I hate the Oilers being on the East Coast. I hate the Oilers being on the East Coast at any point. And like a 9:30 tuck tonight. I I mean it’s it’s nice to get some sleep every once in a while, but I will always miss the late tuck. I’ve done a couple of tucks I’ve had in bed on the Blackhawks this year and it’s a good time. Yeah, like Blackhawks I will say officially good tuck team which typically I need you in California or British Columbia to be that but nah man like Blackhawks that’s a good tuck. 9:30 a little late about there. This is a kind the talk tonight is kind of the similar vibes uh as last night where like established good team going up against a team that is overachieving or better than expected earlier in the year and now we find out like kind of like a measuring stick game and so Blackhawks better bring it tonight. Okay. Every game is your game when you bet with sports interaction. Bet the action on every period, every shift, every shot with Canada’s homegrown sports book. Michael Kessler came on our show and said how badly he wanted to score and that he had a celebration planned. It was coming off a conversation of like about Jake Walman. So the fact that this reminded him of that even though it didn’t remind him but we asked are you going to do any [ __ ] like that? And he said I’ve got a sell plan for if I I score against Utah. We saw how close he came. Did he chunk it? I’ll be a man. Who’s to say? Yes. Our guy [ __ ] chunk. Good save. It was a good save. It was a good save, but it broke my heart. Yeah, it it I’ll tell you what, we know our guy could have buried it. Is he disappointed himself? Sure. Is he going to lose sleep and go Ryan O’Reilly? I don’t think so. Our guy’s a dog. He’s plus 2,000 to score this evening for the Buffalo Sabres against the Utah Hockey Mammoth. And if he does it, I think we can say best case scenario that it didn’t go in in Buffalo because having him score it in Utah and do whatever celebration that he’s been hanging on to in terms of his revenge s doing it in Utah would hit so much harder. Well, that’s what I was going to ask is are they the same celebrations? Like is he have a little bit more motivation to I don’t want to say taunt but like taunt the Utah crowd. Not that they’ve done anything wrong or deserve to be, but like it’s I just it’s a different environment between you at home or doing it on the road. Yeah. He’s also had time to sharpen his dance moves. He’s had more rehearsal time, go through the choreography, see if he can hit that step, land the way that he was trying to land before. And maybe that’s why he didn’t bury that that goal last week because he was like two weeks. No, no, because he was like, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to. I still trip up my li like when I do the the pot of beret. I don’t know if I’m able to do that one. Give me I’m playing them in a couple weeks. I’ll be ready to do it then. So, he’s been practicing as hard as he can and at plus 2,000. I hope he does it. I know that uh I know that I’ll be invested in it. That’s why I I wish you could and I understand why you can’t. I wish you could bet on fights because the things I would do to be able to make a Michael Castle ring Gordy how hatrick parlay. Oh, but he’s got to fight he’s got to fight Ber. Yeah, he’s got to fight. You can’t bet on fights because uh you would have seen what happened last night with Zidorov and Doi and you would have been like, “Oh, does does Zidorov have money on on no fighting?” You’d have theories. We saw Class A. Where you at? We saw Logan Sanhovven drop him last night. Unbelievable. Yeah. And he was enraged. Yeah. Yeah. Guy was wound up. I love I don’t love it because it’s they’re vulnerable and it’s dangerous, but I love seeing goalies get hit. Like I love what what ensues after goalies get hit when they play the puck or something like that. Like that is plus they’re they’re so padded up. I will say uh credit to Niki Zidorov for not taking the bait last night because the Bruins scored a very important goal on the uh the power play that was granted to them after Max Doi lost his mind and tried to initiate a fight that Zidorov didn’t take. But I think I can say I I was hoping to see Zidorov just like put Doy through the [ __ ] ice last night. And I don’t like what Zidorov said after the fact like I’m not going to fight him. He’s too small. He’s my friend and he’s too small. First of all, fight your friends. That’s That’s like the true true one of my best friends. I He broke my nose and because I stole his Chinese food on a drunken night. Yeah. Punched me right in the nose. Broke it. Still great friends to this day. It doesn’t ruin friendships. Friends fight. Uh and also don’t not fighting somebody because they’re too small. As a short guy, I don’t like that. We have something to prove. Pick on somebody your own size. Small man syndrome has to have a taker on the other end. I was watching that last night. I was with Pete. I endorsed it. I thought it was unbelievable restraint from him. And it’s also extra embarrassing if you’re trying to fight somebody and even if you could kick their ass and they’re just like, “Sorry, I’m not taking you seriously.” I imagine that would hurt your feelings so much worse than any punch to the nose over some over some tasty food could do. Especially Especially when it’s Nikita Zidorov who like has never turned down a penalty before last night in his entire life. For him to be like, “Not worth my time. Don’t want to go to the box for you.” that means he [ __ ] hates you. I will say this, I also I do appreciate what Doi tried to do there in the sense that like once he realized that the Dorov was not going to drop the gloves, he bear hugged him and pulled them on top of him to try and at least trick the refs into giving them both fives. Obviously didn’t work, but I appreciate that once he didn’t he didn’t just give up. He we brought him down with them. They opened the door for the Bruins penalty box after that whole sequence and I lost my mind for about 8 seconds. Oh, I mean I was watching it. I was losing my mind. I I’ve never shouted at a hockey game. Why the [ __ ] is the door open? And I shouted it last night. I I there was a point where I wasn’t sure if they were giving them both fives. And so I was like, “Oh my god, there’s no way that they’re giving Nikita Zadora a penalty for this.” I was I was getting excited cuz that would have been hilarious. I would be like respectfully, you would know if I was participating. We would have a stoppage in play longer than the 1 minute and 37 seconds it took to celebrate David Pong his 400th goal. We’d have a dry scrape. Yeah, shout out shout out the ref too for not not uh just punishing Zidorov for for prior actions. And shout out Sports Interaction. Uh, I really enjoyed us uh combing through what happened with the the Blue Jackets and the Kraken because I still don’t know if I totally understand what happened, but I think that we do need to sew up some scarlet letters to send to to our boys. MJ Cunning in the chat says, “Veronov went to the penalty box when a penalty was not against him last night.” So, just a real off night for the Columbus Blue Jackets and awareness. I think that the Russian penalty understanding Jean malfunctioned. Was it not? Wasn’t it was it Vonov last time who kept playing after he got ejected? He sure did. Yeah. Kept playing after he got ejected. And then you had Zidorov who might have almost been given a penalty for absolutely not participating. Some of it was weird with Russians and penalties last night. We’ll get to the bottom of it when we find out tomorrow. Okay. Appreciate everybody. It’s going to do it for today’s show, but we got another one tomorrow and it is going to be an absolute party. 1. I would say the avalanche won convincingly not in the sense that the ducks had no chance or that they weren’t right there with them, but it was just clear that the avalanche were the better team.

  2. The Hawks don't need old guys like O'Reilly and Stamkos taking away roster spots from their incoming prospects. And, 2X Selke Trophy-winning Asst. Coach Michael Peca is already doing a fine job with Bedard's 2-way game, thank you very much. Not to mention that they already have Jason Dickinson, a hugely underrated 2-way player from who Bedard can learn.

  3. Ducks are PDO merchants. They rely solely on luck, and insane shooting percentage. Think the 13-14 Avs. They’ll keep doing well until the playoffs, but then they’ll fall off next year.
