Nov. 14: Postgame Interviews

How how do you kind of describe uh what happened in the third period after you guys drove up two? Um you know we just got to find a way to you know close out games. Um you know we come out in the third grab two goals and um yeah we there should be no chance of letting them back in and um you know we got to clean that up. Was there disappointment with when you’re creating that kind of offense and not being able to get two points at the end of the night? Yeah, very very disappointing. Yeah. Robbie, what’s the uh balance between being patient and attacking the net in overtime there? Yeah, I think you’re, you know, you’re trying to create um you know, mismatches. You’re trying to gain more speed than them, especially when they’re sitting, you know, slow in the neutral zone. They don’t have speed. Um you know, we had a couple couple looks there. Um yeah, I mean, you’re you’re really trying to get a forward to escape backwards and uh have a lot of speed and try and burn them. When you guys have the lead like that, where do you think uh there’s the most room for improvement when it comes to maintaining that lead? I think um you know, defending harder, we got to take care of the puck better. Um you know, they shouldn’t have a guy coming down the slot shooting. Um you know, that can’t happen anymore. So um especially when you’re up two in the third. You like the way your line was able to produce some opportunities tonight? Yeah, we had some chances. Um you know, we still got to get better and um yeah, that’s about it. You mean how do you just kind of process that one uh in this kind of crazy third period too? Uh yeah, I mean a lot of ups and downs in the third. Um I thought we started off really well and then kind of laid back a little bit and you know unfortunately they uh bear down on their chances. Did you like the way you guys the top six you guys were able to produce tonight? Yeah, but you know at the end of the day you need everyone to win. Um not saying there was we’re top heavy or bottom heavy today. you know, everyone in the lineup needs to be at their best if we want to win games and um yeah, I mean, I thought uh we had a lot of chances as uh every line and we just have to, you know, bear down like I said at the end of the game. Jimmy, what do you see in in these overtimes and and in the shootout so far for you guys? You know, there’s a lot of speed. It’s a it’s a fast game. Um I thought we had good chances in in overtime and you know, in shootout it um didn’t go away and I got to take responsibility for for that, not uh bearing down when my numbers called. But, you know, we just have to move on and uh get a win tomorrow. What was it the plan on your shootout attempt? Uh try to fake um high blocker, pull it to the right side, go upside, and uh just didn’t didn’t catch it right. You made that power move, I guess, off the left. Did it just roll off your stick there in overtime? Uh yeah. Um yeah, tried to pull it to the far side and uh kind of got disrupted. So, you feel kind of a sense of of chemistry building with your line. I know you guys played a lot together in the preseason, but do you do you feel that now? Yeah, I mean as as game goes on uh more more and more games, I feel like you build more and more chemistry. Um you know, as as a team, I feel like that’s what we’re really most worried about right now. Keeping our energy up throughout the whole um the whole game and you know, bearing down and uh finishing with a win. What’s the level of frustration I guess disappointment losing two two goals? Um quite high to be honest. Like I mean I didn’t like that we gave up the first two goal lead and you know those were some netfront uh miscues and then um the last two goals were just you know guys not owning their quadrants or you know turnovers. Um regardless we scored five goals. You got to win that game. Like it’s um there’s got to be more desperation in us. Is part of the disappointment or frustration that the net front rate issue kind of reappears and the puck management seems to reappear in regress. It’s part of it. Yeah. Um for sure, you know. Um like making repetitive mistakes that you lost games with early is frustrating. I think one of the guys mentioned that you can’t allow guys to walk down the slot basically uncontested, I guess, to get shots off. Is that just coverage mistakes? Is that what do you One was a turnover, one was a coverage mistake, you know, and it wasn’t an on purpose is he made a cut back and fell because of his skates not, you know, sometimes the skates go and that’s bad timing. Um, but our urgency to come back and protect the slot after that turnover isn’t great. in overtime. What are you seeing in terms of possession not translating into scoring chances? Yeah. Um, you know, like we’ve had a lot of success. Like coach Odd has done a real good job. Uh, and it’s worked a lot in past years of building, you know, taking it back out if you don’t like your entry. I think we’re a little impatient. I think we could have hit like the last time Thomas got it. Um I forget who had the puck. They stopped and they hit him coming late and that led to a good opportunity. Um I think it was 21’s opportunity where he skated in uh which I thought was in on the hands or he might have scored. Um but we’re not having the same purpose of attacking inside the dots, you know. Uh we don’t put teams on their heels in those situations. and twice they changed and the guy with the puck didn’t see it and he didn’t didn’t bypass him so we could have a three-on- two. I think that was the bigger mistake we made than actual execution. Threeon three. They changed when we took it out and we let them change and was still threeon three. You got to see it and got to go. J, why do you feel talk about desperation? Why do you feel like it fluctuated is fluctuating like it has been? Yeah, I you know, it’s a good question. Um, I’ll have to review the film, you know, and have an answer for you tomorrow that would be more pinpoint on. Overall, what did you think of Hunter Skinner’s game tonight? Uh, I thought he was aggressive. Um, I got to be honest, like my my brain, you know, he was fine, you know, um, but my brain’s more on how to give up two two goal leads. in in overtime. How are you viewing the the Bavish play where he takes a penalty and instead maybe giving up a rush chance? How have you viewed that kind of decision you make sir? I I think he had to you know um it’s the same situation. Um that would occur but usually guy went a forward doesn’t have too much time to think. he’s, you know, trust his instincts and, you know, it’s, you understand why he did it and I that’s to me the turnover is the issue, not what happens next. You like what you got from your from your top end guys though offensively this game or um Yes. Um it was good to see the offensive plays we made at times. I still thought we were too perimeter at times. Um, and um, for whatever reason, uh, their second line gave us fits and I, you know, I was matching Thomas against, uh, Kier’s line. It’s their top line. Um, and their second line gave us fits defensively. You moved Shen up there with Wayne Holloway and Ky. Just timing. You felt like it was it was a good time to maybe put that trio back together. Um, yeah. and it paid off with that fourth goal. Um, you know, and you know, sometimes you’re gonna have games where you’re not on. I thought Shen was skating well, so I moved Shen in. I dropped D’vorak back on third line at left wing. The mistakes that are happening on the ice, would you say that they’re mistakes that are easily fixable or ones that are more challenging in the long run? Um, well, I think everything’s fixable to be honest. Um and it’s just um mentally um we need to be more focused on doing the right things. You know, understanding how a game can the momentum in a game can change that quick. Like you score two goals in the first six, seven minutes of the third period, you should close that game out. And um not I don’t know if we’re careless, but we didn’t protect the middle of the ice in our own end well enough after that.

  1. They have NO leadership. Anytime a guy like Buchnevich is allowed to have the negative attitude and lack of effort he has its because of no leadership. I hope they miss the playoffs. That will all but guarantee that guys like Justin Faulk and Pavel Buchnevich are gone.
Veteran players making the most money and playing the worst at the same time is an embarrassment.

  2. Monty is about to explode from within. I still give all these dudes credit for not showing how they actually feel and keeping face. They’re pros, it’s gut wrenching for them.

I’m sitting on the couch and feel like shit watching this brutality but it’s like a car accident you can’t help but look at.

We need more fights and more swag

  3. What’s important is you had a great opportunity to finish this game and win probably should’ve won so there’s huge positives to build off .

Keep a couple pucks out of your net and you’re going to the playoffs its that simple.
Beat Vegas or find a way to get points tomorrow and you’ll have redeemed yourself for sure. The Good news is it’s only hours away.

Alexei Toropchenko needs to start showing up and give a damn maybe however.
    Keep pushing

  4. When everything goes mostly right with a 5-3 lead where's the physicality that lets Philly know they can't just skate into the sweet spots and tie it up. Put a shoulder into someone's chest. The finish to last year's regular season shows us the scoring ability is there – the issue has been tougher defense.

  5. The moment this team shows that it hates to lose more than it enjoys winning…will be a turning point. Right now they are in the blaming and finger pointing stage. Unless a team mentality manifests it way towards them, they will continue to get the same results! Someone needs to read this to the so called team!

  6. Moving schenn up!! He was not skating well he's been a liability keep him in the bottom 6 that 4th goal had absolutely nothing to do with schenn it was all Holloway and kyrou that was a bad decision no other way to put it.

  7. Buchnevich should NOT be on Line 1. He is dragging this team down and it began in the playoffs last year. He is NOT worth $8M a year. It's time. He must go NOW!!
