[Mooney, MLB TR] Shota Imanaga To Accept Cubs’ Qualifying Offer

  1. Add to the rotation *above* his slot and we’re in really good shape in the rotation. If they don’t, however…

  2. I like it. Add some top tier right handed velocity and I’d think the rotation is close to set.

  3. Awesome. Now let’s get him and Seiya on the phone with Tatsuya Imai talking about how great it is here.

  4. Makes a lot of sense. He wasn’t going to get a big contract and the qualifying offer is a decent prove it deal. I wonder how Jed feels about this. Almost seems like they would’ve preferred the pick.

  5. Mike, Jamo, Cade, Boyd, Steele?, Rea

We are just going to run it back with the rotation now, correct? I don’t see us in the market for Cease, King, Framber, or any other big named starter.

    The bullpen is another story…

  6. yep makes sense when he opted out. he gets a pay raise. cubs have short term money on the books. he could re-sign with us after 2026.

  7. Gets a little extra money for his prove it year, basically. This always felt to me like the most expected outcome

  8. LET’S GO!

I know he had a big rough stretch the second half of the season but he’s one of my favorite players on the team right now. Really hoping he pulls it back together this season.

  9. I’m expecting to roll my eyes at Jed and the ownership after this off-season is over BUT declining the option and turning this contract into a one-year deal was a shrewd move. Credit is due

  10. Jesse Rogers made it seem like there was some sour grapes about expecting him to add velo and their handling of him in playoffs. This is surprising to me and I have pretty mixed feelings. I was actually excited for a clean slate for both parties lol.

  11. Well I predicted this one correctly.

Hopefully this doesn’t mean they pull back on FA SPs now.

  12. Can someone help me understand the qualifying offer and why this was done as opposed to taking the existing contract player or team option?

  13. Hooray!! I just grabbed his Kanji jersey last year. So glad I’ll be able to keep wearing it.

But please Mike, please make some adjustments. We want the best for you so please stop giving up 1st inning homers.
