Rich Eisen’s Shedeur Sanders Advice for the Cleveland Browns | The Rich Eisen Show

It looks like he’s going to get a start. Uh it looks like Dylan Gabriel’s uh concussion um will at least have Shadur taking the first team snaps this week, his first first team practice snaps since the summer. And I I again I I just want to reiterate um I I’m not of the belief that the Browns are trying to sabotage Shador Sanders. I I know that’s what Cam Newton was saying and I know I’ I’ve got rabbit ears of what Rex had to say that Shador is making things all about him. Um you know and and um I I I I don’t agree with either of those takes. I just think it is simple as they drafted him after already drafting a rookie who they clearly by the draft position believe is a better prospect. Usually when you do that, you don’t draft a second one. I mean, the only other time I could remember two quarterbacks being taken in a draft for a team that clearly could use one when RG3 went in the first round for Washington and then they took Kirk Cousins in the fourth round. I remember I looked at Mike Mayok in in in Radio City saying, “What’s up with that?” Because if Cousins plays, that means something has gone terribly wrong with RG3. And I just and so the fact that the Browns didn’t give them any first team snaps during the playing season makes complete sense because just the way things are working in the NFL today and have they have for a long time and it’s even changed even more practice schedules to be less in pads and less practice time throughout an entire calendar year that it behooves the league I think to come up with ways for completely green quarterbacks to be growned up, you know, so when they come into a game like Shadore came into a game, they don’t look like either a deer in headlights or completely ineffective to the point where you’re wondering why he was even drafted at all. He He’s lucky to not be playing in Canada, which for him is probably true. I just think it’s unfair that anybody would look at him and say after what he did with the circumstances in which he was drafted and then had no snaps at all like most backup quarterbacks do for them to put him in this game. The fact that he even put one on a receiver with the game on the line to try and tie it was remarkable. And so I’m keen to see what he can do against the Raiders, which is interesting because that was one of the teams everybody was pegging to take him in the first round or second or third or fourth or fifth rounds. You know, instead though, what took them off the chessboard for any draft choice at the quarterback spot this year was hiring Gino Smith and giving him a contract extension that Seattle was uncomfortable giving him. and more comfortable giving to Sam Darnold and yada yada yada. That looks smart. Um, but I’m keen to see what he does with first team snaps this week. And if he does, if he continues to struggle, would they go back to Dylan Gabriel and say in the few weeks we have left to evaluate before we go into this draft with multiple first round draft choices and Deshawn Watson still having one year of guaranteed money left, would they run it back with him one more time? And are they going to run it back with Kevin Stfansky? These are all questions for the Browns to answer over the next remaining two months of the season. But I think at this point in time putting all your energies into Shadore is the only option right now because and this is another reason why you got to sit here and wonder they got rid of both veterans. As a matter of fact, wouldn’t it be interesting if somehow someway Kenny Picket gets into this game for the Raiders against the Browns? because they will see one of the veterans that they had and we all thought they were going to keep at least one, not get rid of one before the season and then get rid of one one month into the season by trading him to your division rival from the same state, leaving you with two rookies. Oh, and Bailey Zappy. So, I imagine we might see some zappy returns if this keeps going the way in which it’s going. But I I’m wondering if they’ll go to Dylan Gabriel and if Chador, this is his one shot with the Browns and and I wish him the best of luck cuz he will have a full week of reps and we will see if they do things in the OP. They they have to if they don’t put stuff in for Shadore that he’s comfortable doing, then that gives credence to the cam we’re trying to sabotage. Right. For sure. And if they go to Zappy instead of him, if Dylan Gabriel’s not ready, then it gives credence to the you never wanted him in the first place. And you have to coach who’s in front of you. And right now, whether they wanted him or not, they got to coach up Shador. and um and beat a Raiders team that is, let’s be honest, from what we saw last night, beatable, you know, beatable, you know, run Judkins, throw it to Judy, throw it to Injoku, throw it to Fannon, get Sidor out on the on the perimeter, let him make some decisions, use his legs, use his savvy that he has, and let’s see what what’s going on. But I don’t I don’t ascribe to they’ve they’ve been sabotaging him stuff. Hour number two coming up. Are you surprised to learn that the Raiders are favored in this game? No. First of all, they’re home, but uh I I I don’t know. as I sit here right now, you know, and and I understand there’s a certain faction that looks at Shadore and saw what we saw and saying that’s the guy who’s going to show up in Vegas and that’s the guy who he is and that’s the reason why he was drafted in the fifth round and that and you can’t throw that all on him cuz he was thrown into a massive frying pan. a Ravens defense that is playing some of the best football they’ve played all year long in a rivalry game late in the day. Get in there, kid. You haven’t taken a snap with any of these guys since August. Go on in there. Do your best. Add a boy. It’s not great. No, it’s not optimum. So, I’m not surprised about that. But I will counter that Shador’s first full week of reps, um, he should show up better. I expect him to be better. they do have the weapons that he can utilize. Um, and for a quarterback in Gino Smith who is um having issues remaining vertical, uh, for Miles Garrett to come to town, my goodness, you know, he’s on pace to have a 25 sack season. He has 15. He may get that 25th sack on Sunday. I mean, Derek Thomas single game record might be in jeopardy. I’m not uh certainly if they’re going to drop back, I imagine the game plan will be a little different. He’s had a five sack game against Drake May and then a four sack game and he’s lost and he lost both of those games. Well, that’s what the money’s for. That’s what the money’s for, right? I know. I’ve heard the Don Draper. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You asked for it. I I know. I know. So, yes, there the the Browns have the ability to win this football game. They have the roster and they got the coach. Man, I guarantee you if the Browns bounce to Fansky, the first thing his his agent would do would call the Giants. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that.   2. Sanders was a project quarterback. He needs someone to change this whole play style. He isn’t super athletic and has no pocket presence or comfortable in a closing pocket. Look at his tape he plays his best rolling out of the pocket and buying time. That doesn’t work in the NFL. He was overrated and over hyped.

  3. Cam think everything is a conspiracy. The fact is when most 3rd/4th stringers get in they only call runs and short check down plays. It's pretty rare to see them call plays where they are really trying to drive the ball down the field. They did with Sanders. I think he might be held back by playing for his dad. Parents can push way to hard or not challenge them enough. I think it's the latter just by some of Shedeurs public appearances. I guess we about to find out. The Ravens kept walking up with 8 in the box and running some exotic zones to psyche him out. The Raiders aren't doing anything that advanced.

  5. All NFL teams passed on four rounds not to draft this kid. Arrogance/Daddy nepotism can't be the only reasons, clearly his talents were in question as well.

  6. It’s hurting a lot of people on here as they listen to Eisen share his opinion that Sanders is not trash after only 30 minutes of ball against the Ravens.

  10. I think that Sheduer is where he put himself. Rich whines that he isn't getting a fair shake. It the same with every 3rd string quarterback. Where is his speech for them? Who will he blame if Sheduer fails? Sheduer does not need first team reaps to learn a playbook.

  11. This is Rich's worst take, which makes sense because it is his friend's son.
    The challenge that i have as someone who isnt there, is how did this happen?
    It Seems like Sanders has not done anything to earn Reps or a starting spot. It has the appearance that he comes off as morally injured about not being given the starting role and is too busy sulking in his tent like Achilles to show how good he can be.
    Again, i am not there, but the appearces i have seen from Sanders are not terrible, he seems to answer questions with hardworking cliche answers, and even the miming bit i am ok with because as the third string QB at the time his words should ring silent to the media anyways (i would have loved him to say, 'i am doing everything i can to help the team win, and you should be propping up our guy Dillon instead of talking to me'; but it is not fair to expect that from him).
    It would be fun if he were good, but the media has to get off him and let him learn how it needs to be done when youre not a star, because he is not a star yet, and if no one lets him see that he probably wont become one.

  18. purdy was 3rd string no 1st team reps, trey lance gets hurt, then jimmy G, gets hurt, then they throw in purdy, he beats the dolphins, starts the next week against the bucs and brady, no problems with cadence or making up special plays just for him

  23. The 5th round rookie, that started the season 4th on the depth chart came in and played like any normal person expected.. where’s your segments on Tyler Shough and Joe Milton coming off the bench? Milton came in and went 3-4 with a TD 🤷🏻‍♂️

  24. Multiple former nfl players saying it’s weird that he got ZERO snaps. The offensive lineman never hearing his cadence is even crazier especially because one of them was a backup and even he didn’t know. They didn’t have to give the kid half hell even a quarter but damn my dawg can’t even get 2 or 3 snaps in case of a emergency shiiii😂😂

  27. I hope Shedeur gets a fair chance to prove his worth, free from the pressure of the outside world wishing him good or ill. Seize the day. Take your chance. Do your best and stay clear of social media. I say this, doubting any media, fans, critics, athletes and Shedeur himself will allow this to happen.
