BREAKING: Cleveland Guardians Add 4 Prospects to 40 Man Roster on Rule 5 Protection Day

The 40man rule five protection date has come and gone and the Guardians have added four players. No surprises on who they added on Helena was the first one. Austin Peterson, Yorman Gomez and Khil Watson. Cle Watson was maybe the only one I had on the fringes to be not added but he was added and a lot of people felt like he would be. The surprising move was that the Guardians DFA Nick Enright. And the only reason that’s surprising is because I thought candidates like Nolan Jones or Will Brennan or Zack Kent who’s out of options would be the guys who are cleared off the roster. Those moves could still come at a later date. The non-tender deadline is Friday, especially for someone like Nolan Jones, who’s arbitration eligible. Nick Enright is going to miss all of 2026 with Tommy John’s surgery. Just another unfortunate chapter in his baseball career that just, you know, will not take off. It sucks for him. and you feel for him and the family. Hopefully the Guardians have intentions to sign him to a minor league deal that will rehab him in 2026 for a comeback in 2027. Uh so hopefully that’s what happens. The Guardians did hang on to guys like Sam Henches last year who missed all the season anyway. So maybe that’s still in the cards for um Nick Enright at some point. But the Guardians added those four players. They got rid of one. So the roster is full at 40. So, they won’t make any selections. They could still take guys off the roster before the rule five draft in December in Orlando, but probably unlikely they’ll make any rule five selections given where their roster is at.
