Jaycee Horn looking ahead to the 49ers | Carolina Panthers
JC, you guys swept the Falcons for the first time in over a decade. Just talk about going into that environment. Really, really strong games there, especially after uh this game. Yeah. No, it was a big win. Big win for sure. Um especially how the game started a little shaky uh defensively. Um but yeah, we tightened up in the second half and you know, Bryce, he turned up and then it was, you know, we was able to finish the game and get a win. It was big. talk about the resiliency of not just the the defense but this team as a whole. You know Bryce went down you guys didn’t know what was going what was going to happen but just fighting back from 217 and you know in past seasons that might have been game over. Yeah. I mean really just you know what we’ve been saying about this team the whole whole season that we you know a second half team. We know how to finish. Um and we knew that going into halftime the game wasn’t over. uh we knew we was going to get the ball back and from from the defensive perspective when Ace caught that touchdown to cut it to one possession. It was like know that’s all we needed. We just got to go out here and uh you know keep playing good technique and keep the ball in front of us and um Phoenix went down. It was it was roughing them when that when that happened. So we just knew we had to stop the run and uh limited big plays and we knew the offense was going to come through. JC, you talk about finishing. Is that something you guys had to learn to do as a team? Yeah, I mean just something that, you know, coach coach Canel has been preaching since he got here. Um, and I think it’s kind of just part of our DNA at this point. Um, now we just got to worry about, you know, starting fast and putting it all together. When you guys got that fumble there, that kickoff after that first touchdown, how big of a spark was that for you guys? Cuz it seemed like that was a huge turn in the second half. Yeah. Was that right after the touchdown? Yeah, it was it was a big big play by Bam. Um, rookie coming in making that play. Um, yeah, it gave us gave us a lot of energy. I don’t think we got points that drive, but it still just did a lot for the um team morale and and just know that, you know, it was our game to win. Dave said this is kind of what he dreamed and vision about the significance your time here maybe in 2022 with Wils y’all. What did you learn from that experience and what’s it like? Well, just a good win. You know, it’s still early. It’s still early. You know, this this week ain’t going to matter when it get, you know, close to the play playoffs. Nobody going to go back and say, “Oh, y’all was one game back if we don’t make the playoffs.” So, we just got to keep our head down. You know what I’m saying? We watch the film today, seeing what we can learn from it and get better. Um, and just keep keep taking it one Sunday at a time and see where we end up when it’s playoff time. JC, would you say the energy feels different though this November compared to years past knowing you guys are still very much in the hunts and you have those goals still in front of you? Yeah. No, this is definitely different from that aspect just knowing that, you know, we playing meaningful games. Um, and we haven’t been doing that a lot in in November since I’ve been here. Uh, but yeah, just being over 500, you know, having opportunity um to go into San Fran in a big time NFC matchup and, you know, still win win football games and keep growing as a team. You’re one of the few people that knows what it’s like to have CMA running right at you. practice. So, what what do you tell teammates to look out for? Do what we do, you know, seen Clyde seen Clyde this past Sunday, uh, putting the helmet on everybody. So, that’s that’s what I expect him to do this upcoming Sunday, and that’s that’s the approach we’re going to take. Locally, we knew about Cory Thornton. You guys have been talking the rest of the week is unnoticed. You know, he played more prominent role last week with Blake Ransom out. Can you talk about his performance as as a young corner on the Yeah, man. Impressive. You know, even not even just the plays he made, but just him being able to, you know, come in undrafted, the pressure trying to meet the team. You know, him accomplishing that, making it as a corner, then getting thrown a nickel and having to to learn that in this defense is not easy, and then he was also at safety as y’all seen some on Sunday with with uh Trey going down in the box to play nickel. And as a rookie, that’s a lot, you know, to be able to learn um especially under quick. I don’t think he got many snaps at safety prior to this last week. Um, so for him to just, you know, in a big time NFC game be able to carry all that on his plate and go in and uh perform the way he did. I don’t think he had uh any any coverage bust or any memes. Um, that really hurt us. Um, so just for him to do that as a young player just shows the work he put in, you know, all the hours he here um studying, it all paid off for him and I’m, you know, I’m excited to see him keep getting better. Cory Claude also 10. What does it say about this team where players who aren’t typically have games? Yeah, I mean it say a lot just to our our program and our culture right now. Um just going in the right direction, you know, guys standing ready for that opportunity. Um and those like you said, Clyde, he came in and stepped up. Had to help me out on the backside slant on third and five. came came and knocked the ball off Drake with a big time play. He had a couple big hits on Bian. Um and you know just a guy that stepped up when his opportunity came and just a testament to the coaches of the players. You know trying to bring everybody along and knowing we get deep in the season if anybody go down we got to have a next man up mentality. Yeah. Is there a different vibe? Is this an opportunity to kind of show the world what y’all are about? Yeah, I mean, anytime you’re under the lights is is special. Um, especially for us. We we have a lot of one one:00 games, so it’s going to be fun being able to um be out there playing under the lights. But not for I mean, it is a big opportunity cuz everybody going to be watching at the same time for us just going to handle the business. No matter what time we play, where we play at, we still got to go out there and execute. So, that’s where our mindset is. Y’all are going to be playing Christian McCaffy for the first time this franchise has since you hear that what you think of when you think of Christian McCaffy as a player, man. Uh not not just a great player, one of the best guys I’ve seen lace him up, but um just a just all he did for this organization. um the type of leader he was for me as a young player uh coming in here just everything he did everything right you know pre-practice postpractice um did everything right taking care of his body his diet you know as a young guy it meant a lot you know watching him um uh while I was while I was rising here um but yeah I’m excited to play him you know a hell of a player um I know I know he going to be trying to get us to get back um he going to be running the ball hard but you know we ready for the challenge and it’s going to be fun what makes him so special uh man just a just his agility, quickness, um his IQ, uh just just everything. You know, he a special back. Um and that’s that’s why I think he going to be a gojacket type of guy. The guys on the team that weren’t here this year. You guys have faced some running backs that are able to catch out of the back field. How much would that much how much assistance would that went to them coming in? Uh I think it’s I think it’s good. You know, we played Bi this past week and they got, you know, similar games. Um, and yeah, they it’s back toback weeks. We going to see two good backs, uh, similar style. So, it’s good we got to see Vagina this week, so we know what to expect. Uh, coming next week with Christian. What do you think when the Panthers traded the Catholic 2013? Um, I can’t remember. Did it feel like kind of a time I think Wils was here that it was kind of a reset almost kind of turn it over to young guys like yourself? No, I was too young, man. I was just focused on, you know, getting ready for the next game. Heat [Music] up [Music] here.
Horn spoke about the Panthers’ defense continuing to build after a win and focusing on Monday’s game against former teammate Christian McCaffrey.
