I’m going to I’m bold hot take scorching hot take. Min Celebrini is pretty good at hockey. Uh Celebrity carries the Sharks offense tonight with his hat-tick. The Sharks win three-2 in overtime against the Utah Mammoth. We’re going to talk about Celibbrini. uh how he was just we’re running out of words to describe how great he is. Uh talk about how the Sharks kind of got away with one here and then dig into the numbers of this game and look at which players stood out, which players uh maybe not their best game. So before we get to all that, do want to let you guys know that today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Download the FanDuel app now by visiting fanduel.com and win $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins. Um we have to start with with M Celebrity because uh again uh sources tell me M celebrity is very good. Um hattrick tonight for his third career hattick, first one at home, second of the season. Uh just love how Connor Baddard gets a hat-tick tonight and Mlin Celebrity is like, “Yep, I let’s do this, man.” And uh Celebriny gets one with the gamewinning goal uh in overtime on the power play as the Sharks overcomes a stumbly third period. Um but Celibbrini uh delivers uh big time as he is he’s one to do it. Think that is the the thing that I keep coming back to with Celibbrini is uh watching him in these high pressure moments, right? These clutch moments and in just this year alone, you think of all the times where he has risen up uh when the Sharks needed him most, right? when the Sharks needed someone to step up and needed him most. Who is the guy doing it, right? And it’s Mlin Celebrini. Uh you you think back to the Wild game uh in overtime where they’re they spend three and a half minutes stuck in their own zone. Ekin makes the desperate change, right? Uh and Celerini comes on uh steals the puck and goes and finishes that game for a win. Um, you think of the Rangers game, right, where he wins a board battle uh along in overtime along the, you know, and he gets it over to Will Smith who finishes it. Uh, you think about, um, you know, the the play to Colin Graph, uh, where he get, you know, he’s late into a shift, he makes one more play, gets it to Colin Graph, who finishes off tonight. The Sharks get a power play. um you know a a horrible decision just boneheaded decision by the Utah Met that is that is uh part of you know when you have so many young players and we’ve seen it with the Sharks right some of these just just mental lapses um and that should have been a an absolute disaster right there for the Sharks and we’ll talk about that a little bit here in a second but should have been an absolute disaster for the Sharks there um and Sharks get a power play out of Rosski goes with the four forwards. Uh and Mlin Cbrrini finishes the thing as he is uh and that that shot just absolute like uh ridicul like he couldn’t have walked it up and put it in the net in a better spot. Just an absolute beautiful snipe from Celabbrini. And um that’s the thing uh as as you know any like longtime sports fan right there either you’re rooting for or you’re rooting against players right and um long way to go for this but like uh watching Tom Brady uh and again Mlin Celebrating is nowhere near Tom Brady but watching Tom Brady whenever the Patriots needed a big drive or a big play right you you just knew he was going to deliver um you But watching Steph Curry, right, whenever the Warriors need a big play, they need a bucket, they need that that dagger play, you know, he’s going to deliver and you’re getting that sense with Celibbrini, right? It’s just you feel if he gets an opportunity, he’s going to deliver for you. And I I like that clutch factor is huge. and the fact that he’s showing it already at the age of 19. Um, just the sky is the limit for this kid. Like running out of ways to talk about just how great and uh that we we have it with Mlin Solraini, right? where you you have your franchise guy, you have your guy where you feel like I like with this guy, no matter as long as this guy is healthy and on the ice, we still have a chance, right? I don’t care the circumstances. When Celibbrini is out there, you feel like not only do you have a chance, but he’s going to somehow pull it off. And he did it again tonight, right? Gets the two goals early. You’re kind of waiting for the hat-tick. the Sharks going to, you know, just kind of park the bus shell, you know, and try to hang it, you know, just grind out this win. Um, and then, right, he gets that little crack with the with a power play and the Sharks able to to put this game away. Um, so amazing night for him, right? Uh, you 30 points in 20 games. just 30 points in 20 games. That is again he’s 19. What he is doing offensively like this is not normal guys. Like I I do not take for granted what Mlin Celbrini is doing because um he’s he’s a special special player, right? Uh he is a change the skyline of San Jose special player uh because of of just what he means not only to this team to this franchise to the city to to this whole the whole area uh of just how special of a player and we see it we’re seeing it now uh in these you know like the these growing games of just celebrating doing special things that just not many other people in NHL history or in the league or just whatever. Like there’s not like who would you trade Min Celebrating for? Because I don’t know if I would trade anybody for Min Celebrating at this point, right? Like you are getting a guy who is just starting his journey uh right now. Like I I don’t think uh you would trade like would you trade Conor McDavid for Mlin Sullivini straight up because I don’t know man. Uh I don’t know. Uh yeah he is he is a special player doing special things. Um before we kind of get into how the Sharks kind of got away with with one here. Um I do want to shout out Ascrov and I I know he gave up that soft that one that second Peter goal is definitely a a save he wants back right but um he was rock solid tonight with the exception of that one play right there. The first part goal right he gets Mukmadulan is just doesn’t get back deep enough and he lets Peturka get by him and like Purka is a a great player. Um but Muka Madul or sorry but Ascarov tonight was outstanding um for the with the exception of that one play and you think back over the last month right that that’s the one soft goal he’s basically given up since the the Kings game. Um, so like he was he kept the Sharks in this game where again they kind of went through lols and they were, you know, a little bit in and out of it at times and, you know, Utah second night of a a back-to-back like they they had a crushing loss last night. They have a crushing loss tonight. Um, it would have been nice for the Sharks to kind of like put this game away early uh and then kind of work towards Ascarov getting his out because I I felt like he was gonna get it tonight. But, uh, things kind of got a little squirly for the Sharks here. But don’t lose like yes, Celebrin was awesome tonight. Uh, Will Smith was great. Like we’ll talk about, you know, the rest of the guys here in a minute, but don’t lose uh tonight uh just how good Ascarov was. like he was outstanding tonight again with the exception of that one soft goal and and goalies are going to give up the those soft goals occasionally, right? And that that’s part of the maturation process for Ascarov, but he was great tonight. He kept the Sharks in this game. Uh and it it’s good to see right for a team that Ascrov has been kind of carrying this team over the last couple weeks and winning games for them. is good for to see that tonight they had his back when he led in a soft one and they were able to get this win. So, uh because the Sharks team, right, they they’re the Ask Rob and CBrini are going to kick the kicking and screaming uh dragging this team to more wins than they expected and and tonight was the perfect example of that as kept the sharks in it and Celibbrini did all the scoring. So, uh, we’re going to look at, you know, some of the errors from this game. Uh, some of the things that the Sharks definitely need to clean up. Um, so we’ll kind of discuss that here and and where things could have gone wrong. But again, Sharks got a big win tonight to kind of write the ship. So, uh, we’ll break that down here in just one second. Let’s be real, making excuses doesn’t solve anything. We’ve heard them all before. It’s just stress. Uh then tomorrow we’ll be kind of looking at where the Sharks were at uh 20 games into the season. So make sure you guys are following along wherever you get podcast and of course you can watch on YouTube as well. So, uh, as great as this win is, right, this is, uh, one of those kind of, I think for Ryan Warski, learning lesson type of games, uh, for San Jose, right? And um as this team continues its maturation process and learning how to close out games, uh you know, I think this is a great example of a a game where yes, you got the win, which is very important, but there’s a lot of things where you can kind of go back and be like, we could have done X, Y, and Z better tonight. So, and that is, you know, as this team starts to win more, we want, you know, and as as this team hopefully starts to climb out of this rebuild here, we we’re going to have to be a little bit more critical about like, you know, how the team played, especially as expectations start to rise and uh you know, winning in the margins and all that stuff. So, um, again, like this is a great win. Like you should feel really proud. Like it should be really exciting, especially with Celabbrini. But, you know, these these things there’s going to be things that the Sharks need to clean up as they continue to play these competitive games and hopefully play competitive hockey into January and February. Um, you know, and so I think tonight the one of the big things I I really think the team needs to focus on is um not taking the foot off the gas, right? You scored two goals. Um you had the place rocking six minutes into the game. Uh and credit to Utah for finding their game, you know, early on, you know, kind of midway through that first period and, you know, finding their game and getting them themselves back into it. But um you would like to see San Jose go for that kill, right? Especially on a against a team that is on the second night of a backto-back coming off a crushing loss where you kind of like the Sharks in this game, right? Uh Utah had a lead very late. I think it was like five seconds left. They had a lead, couldn’t hold it, and then they lose in overtime. Um would have been nice for San Jose to come out and kind of put the stamp on this game, right? And go up, you know, you go up two nothing, you get to the first intermission. Um and come out in that second period and kind of treat the game like it’s 000 and really try to get that next goal, right? and put it at three nothing and make a team that’s on the second night of a backto-back work to re, you know, kind of put that seed of doubt in them and just be like, you know, guys, it’s not our night. And then you can kind of, you know, maybe push it to four or just see how Utah responds to that and see if they just kind of throw their hands up and just be like, it’s not our night and then you can kind of park the bus and, you know, try to walk out of there with with a a much easier win than what you got tonight. So that is a big part of the maturation process for the Sharks team is not letting your foot off the gas and especially in this NHL, right? We we see teams um you know blow two goal I mean you’ve watched the Sharks team blow twogoal leads constantly. Um you know you think like the Colorado Avalanche had a fivegoal lead against the uh Devils at one point this year and they ended up blowing that. I mean, they they came back and won it, but still like no lead is safe in today’s NHL. So, uh that is gonna be a big part of of this team’s maturation process is looking for that next goal and trying to put a team away uh early on, especially when these types of circumstances. Um, two, I think the Sharks got away with some poor play in their own end, and it wasn’t like defensive play, but it was more of trying to break the puck out. Uh, and they got away with some tonight. Um, there was a couple from Lety, a couple from like there was a couple from everybody. Moo McDullan as well, uh, Sam Dickinson in overtime. Like Sam Dickinson almost blew this game here, right? And we we saw with Dickinson out there with uh Will Smith and and Mlin and Celibbrini, right? Dickinson trying to make a pass to Cabbrini. Celebriny doesn’t realize it. Utah jumps on that puck and if it wasn’t for the too many men penalty, right? It is a uh Dickinson’s probably going to be flatfooted there and it’s going to be up to Asov to make a massive save in that position. So, um, there was just a couple of just, you know, just they they got to work on cleaning up that that breakout pass, uh, from players there and especially when you go against a team, a high octane offensive team like the Mammoth and some of the teams that the Sharks are going to be facing here soon. Um, you you got to be cleaner in that. um and not give your put like you work so hard to get the puck out, you know, puck back and there’s nothing worse than just that turnover at the blue line or turnover right in the beginning of the neutral zone and then the other team is just tacking again and you got to spend the next 45 seconds trying to get the puck back. Like it’s it’s this team is just is not talented enough to overcome those sort of defensive miscues. And again much better tonight defensively with the exception I would say of the Muka Madullan play right where again we talked about Mukadan needs to react like needs to read that play a little bit better um than what he did and especially with a guy like JJ Peturka and you’re up to nothing like you kind of need to be you have to be the last man back there and you you can’t um you can’t let him walk into the the zone like that. So, um, but you’re you’re seeing this team, I think, play much better structurally, defensively as the team is kind of jelling and stuff, but, uh, you can’t expect to make some of the mistakes that they made tonight and get away with it all the time. So, um, but again, like overall, you you see the direction that this team is heading and you see them improving on a lot of things. like you’re not going to improve on everything all at once. So, uh they should be extremely happy with this win, but you know, as good teams and we’re hoping the Sharks team becomes a good team is you you got to really harp on the things that went wrong and and trying to lock those down and fix those because uh if not, it kind of feels like the dam’s going to burst, right? You fix one thing and then all of a sudden something else springs up over here and you fix that and something. So, it’s important for for San Jose to really try to kind of fix some of these issues here, especially that transition game and kickstarting that transition game because when you do get Celibbrini and Smith and Wenberg and, you know, Graph and Eklan and some of these guys out on the transition, that’s when this team is at its best. So, if you can really fix those areas and and get uh you could really kind of see the offense start popping here again. So, uh, we’re going to dig into the numbers of this game. Look at how all the players did. Uh, some positive Zach Osapuk stuff, uh, because I think quietly had one of his best games in the NHL, at least in San Jose. Uh, so we’re going to we’re going to talk about all the lines, all the players here, uh, in just one second. So find NHL game night on locked on NHL on YouTube wherever you listen to podcast. All right. Um, so this game was like m as much as it kind of felt like Utah was controlling this game, I think it was a much closer game, you know, especially through the first two periods and then Utah, right, was was down two goals trying to push back and and get the tying goals uh late, but um you know like this it could have been one of those where you put this team away. Anyway, um 48 minutes of five on five. Uh 53 to 34 shot attempts in favor of uh the Mammoth. 60 point basically 61 to 39 core C4. Um actual shots though uh at five on five was 23-7 favor of the Mammoth. Uh 25 to 15 scoring chances of course in favor of the Mammoth. Uh 11-6 danger chances at 515 in favor of the Mammoth. But 1.88 to 1.4 43 expected calls four in favor of the Mammoth. And do the first two periods very close like the way these two teams were were playing. It was a very even game. Third period though, the Sharks tried to kind of park the bus. Uh hope to grind one out here and just weren’t able to. Uh 23-7 shot attempts at 16 minutes of 515. Um 12 to3 actual shots, eight to three high danger chance or scoring chances. Um, you know, I I think those are going to be those moments where you want to like um really again put a team away there, right? So you’re not having to just scramble for an entire third period. So um as for the lines uh for the Sharks tonight, so no changes with the lines. Um, Tofolei, DeAndrea, and Godette led the way with time on ice. Uh, 1055 uh 7-1 shot attempts, 3 to three actual shots. Uh, 0.15 to26 expected goals, four uh 2 to eight scoring chances, 1 to2 high danger chances. Um, so with this line, like I think like tofully to me at least does not look 100% healthy right now. Um, Dandria was was good on the the power play or sorry on the penalty kill. Uh, and I I thought God debt had a couple opportunities as well. Uh, but we’ll we’ll see with this line here. You know, I think the problem is the shorts don’t really have anybody else to kind of tweak things here, but um we’ll see if maybe if if To kind of works his way back up to the second line. That would be my guess is maybe till Fully gets back on the second line here soon and graph on back down to the third line. Um so uh Equin Wberg graph played neck at 1036 8 to2 shot attempts uh 6 to6 actual shots 43 to.19 expected goals four four to four scoring chances two to1 high danger chances um this line continues to be extremely effective uh especially the n ekllin wenberg where they’re so good at those you know kind of grinding out on the boards and kind of you know that cycle offense there but I feel like this line needs needs that shooter. So, I wonder again I wonder if Graph and Taf fully make the swap here soon uh to try to give this line a little bit more juice offensively. Um so that’s probably what I I that’s what I would, you know, maybe look at if I was uh Ryan Warsovski, but uh again, I’m just an idiot. though. Um, goodroat truck Reeves played 854. Uh, they 12-10 shot attempts, 5 to1 actual shots, 61 to.13 expected goals, four 5 to3 scoring chances, three to nothing high injury chances. Um, let me start with a stop truck who I thought was was just quietly making great plays all night. Um, you know, just smart plays on the board. uh playing hard, great back check at one point. Uh like easily I think his best game and I wonder if he’s settling into his role with the Sharks of just being one of these bottom six forwards and you know is is kind of just getting used to it here. So um Reeves was effective right kind of all over the you know in his limited time but effective all over the ice tonight. Um, and you know, Goodro Good had a a monster PK shift uh in that third period where he had a couple opportunities there to try to maybe get a short-handed goal, you know, and I think that’s where like Goodro continues to thrive on the PK uh there. But yeah, this line was was, you know, quietly effective. They, you know, did their job tonight. And I think Zacho Sapuk had his uh I think had his best game in in teal. bar very low I know but you’re trying to build on something here so and then Smith Kerschev uh Celabbrini so they only played 836 at five on five together but uh I think one you can point to the five power plays the Sharks had plus the Sharks were trying to roll their lines here uh especially late in the third or you know into the third period here so um sorry excuse me uh four to nine shot attempts two to four extra shots had uh one goal 0.1 to 045 expected goals, four two to four scoring chances and 0 to3 high danger chances. So um again like we just spent the first 10 minutes talking about celebrating. Smith was great tonight. Quietly had two assists as well. Um and just that celebrating Smith chemistry is is all over. It’s Yeah, they’re they’re so good together, man. Um cuz Smith made some really nice defensive like one of the things I think from Smith that’s really grown this year is his defensive play and making some of these subtle defensive moves. Uh just kind of like I don’t think he’s ever going to be like a silky like celery type of guy, but I think he’s going to be a plus guy in the defensive zone. Uh who’s going to again just a lot of just subtle stuff from him. Um, so, uh, yeah, I thought he continued to have a good night tonight as well. So, uh, defensively, uh, Dickinson Day hard, uh, led the way Corsywise with 41.67%. Um, Dickinson, as we talked about, had some, you know, moments there, but had some great plays as well. There was a shift, especially where Dickinson, Deese were combined together. Uh, had some great looks. I know Dickinson or Deese hit the post. Dones did like he left. I don’t I don’t know if he got much ice time in the third period. He like blocked a shot with his hip and I don’t know if he was feeling 100% after that. So, just something to keep an eye on there. Uh Ferraro Mukuma Madullan. Ferraro had a really strong game tonight. Uh Muka Madullan, like I said, a really kind of up and down game with him. Uh 40.74%. Uh and then Orla Ley 38.46%. Uh, so um we’ll we’ll see about that pairing. I I don’t love these pairing. I like I’m I don’t know how to put the pairings together, but something just something doesn’t quite feel right uh right there. So, and then for Ascarov, who had a little bit of a coming back to earth uh night tonight, but still had a a good night. Uh 25 saves on 27 shots, two goals allowed on 209 uh expected goals against. So, still a positive night for him. 926 save percentage with a 191 goals against. It’s a 926 save percentage. He gave up two goals and it feels like a coming back to earth night for Ascrov. Like that’s just how ridiculous he’s been playing as of late. Uh six of seven high danger chances, six of six mid danger, and then 12 of 13 low danger. So, uh again, like Ascar played really well uh tonight with the exception of just the one purker goal. and like you can’t ask much more from your goalie tonight like on a on a night in night out basis. But um good win good win for the Sharks. Plenty of things to clean up. So I think that’s that’s what makes it good, right? Where you you as this team is trying to grow and build off of things is you celebrate the wins and you look at where you can get better. And I think that’s why I think that’s kind of makes this game exciting for for the Sharks and especially their coaching staff of where can we get better and because there’s plenty of stuff that I think they can work on tonight. Uh as the uh the Sharks uh the Kings coming back into town here. Uh the Sharks on a fourame home stand. So uh yeah, Sharks play the Kings on Thursday night. Uh and then we got the Sens. That’s gonna I’m really looking forward to that Sens game. I think that’s going to be a really fun one. So, uh, so make sure you’re following along wherever you get podcasts. 1. That’s been a couple of really good back checks from smith on the over times. He managed to do it without getting a penalty too. He’s getting better each time.
