HC Jonathan Gannon Press Conference- 11.14.25 | AZ Cardinals

All right. Um, real quick, Marv will be out. M. Wilson will be out. Um, everybody else is just head this off so we don’t have to waste our time. Um, we’re going to go through today and then make decisions on that. So, you guys will have the report. Everyone’s at different levels there of the injury report. So, um, feel good about where we’re at, though. We had a good day yesterday. We got to have a good day today. Um, good football team coming in here, San Francisco, and uh, looking forward to the challenge. What do we got? I know you guys have uh, always liked kind of the the the dirty, grimy stuff that Michael Wilson is able to give you in terms of his parts of the job, but to the receiving part, obviously, he had a little bit of a slower start, but it seems like he’s kind of come on of late. What do you like about that part of his game of late? He’s getting open and catching it. um you know and I think he’s actually not actually I think he he has improved his route running um which there’s varying levels to that um but he’s done a good job with a couple things that he’s been working on with Drew um to improve that part of his game showing up mentioned that Cody Simon can be a little more aggressive you know go fill the gap a little bit you he brought that up is anything else you would like to see from Cody especially I want to see all 11 be more aggressive and fill gaps. We’ve obviously seen over the last however many years Kyle Shanahan’s ideas spread throughout the league. What are the things that he still does and his team still do that still make them particularly hard to face? Um, one can copy ideas, but you can’t copy the details. I would think that um his the the details with which his team plays with jumps off the tape. Uh to me at least. Um so everybody runs the same plays. It’s what details um do your guys can you get your guys to execute with? Um, and the other thing about um, how they play and why such what I why I have such a high opinion of Kyle um, is their play style jumps off the tape to me. Uh, all 11 guys. So, their receivers, you’re talking about Mike, you know, Mike does a good job. Their receivers block people and put major effort into blocking. Um, they finish plays when they get their ball. Whoever’s touching the ball, they’re always finishing forward. um challenging tacklers, never going out of bounds, never going down, always trying to gain extra yards. Um the quarterback carries out all his fakes all the time. Like their play style to me is um is topnotch. Really top-notch. And it’s one of the reasons in my opinion that they they play really good offense and win because of that. With that being said, with Brock being the guy going back this much change as far as how you prepare the next 48 hours, he’s a different player than Mack, but not a ton. Um, you know, if you look at I’m sure they had made adjustments to to my eye. Um, it’s a Kyle Shanahan offense that’s really hard to defend and we’re going to have to be on it. Is aggressive something you’re hoping to see more out of after last week? Just say it again. the aggressive side of things with Buddha Baker and you said you wanted to see No, that’s just how you need to play defense, especially versus this crew. If you don’t hit them, they will hit you in the mouth and you’ll be knocked on a canvas. So, we can’t let that happen. What do you think, Josh? Don’t get knocked on a canvas. What makes I’m excited. I’m excited. Our guys are ready to go. What makes Trent Williams one of the best offensive linemen in the league? Consistency. Consistency. um his play style shows up even for being as long as he’s been doing it. He’s a big old dancing bear that’s aggressive and mean. Um and and um the details when you watch him is his technique. He’s a technician man through and through. So he’s this big giant massive man that’s mean and and strong and tough, but his technique is so good. So good. And uh it’s it’s it’s not fun to watch for me. It’s fun to watch, you know what I mean? You you appreciate it, you know what I mean? Because it’s dead on all the time. It’s why he’s, you know, probably getting a green jacket, gold jacket at some point. Green jacket. Masters. Masters. Yeah. Gold jacket hall of fame. The first week that that he was back on the grass, you said you were fast. The first week you were back on the grass. That’s a fine. Um, you said you were impressed with what uh with what PJ Gelari was able to to do. How is how have the last two weeks been for him kind? Good. Really good. Um, you know, you see him uh man, like getting a little bit better every day, honestly. You know, especially when we’re going in drill work and then it correlates to the team work. Um he’s doing a really good job and and what I really appreciate, you know, uh he broke the team down yesterday and the team was juiced up and it it goes to show you they know how long of a road that was for him. Um football players want to play football when you can’t play football. There’s no way to say that it it doesn’t suck. And it’s hard, you know, and it’s mentally and physically taxing and emotionally taxing. and to have him back out there with a smile on his face competing, you know, whether he’s playing with the scouts or playing with the ones, doesn’t really matter. He’s out there, you know, giving it his all. Um, but he’s he’s improving. From your perspective, when someone’s been on for 400 plus days, what’s kind of the hardest the harder part to readjust to? Is it the physical side, like mentally seeing it on the field? Yeah, I think everybody’s a little bit different, Josh. It’s a good question. They’re they’re all a little bit different, you know, depending on again the the player, meaning what position, what age is he, has he been through it, has he not, how long it took him, you know, what he’s being asked to do. Um, they’re all different, man. But it’s a challenge. Also went down in that first meeting, they lost Fred Warner, you know, the rookie Mike Williams. Just how different does that defense look? Have they had to change out of necessity? Is it like you’re playing a different type of unit this No, they play what they play. Um, you know, obviously different guys in a lineup and I think Coach Doll has done a good job to how he’s kind of adapted how he calls it, I would say, uh, is a little bit different. Um, and it makes it it makes it a challenge. He’s a good football coach, you know, and and what you do is is you take, you know, who’s available, who you’re playing, and try to put them in the best spots that you can. I think he does a good job of that. Really good job of it. How’s B night doing with the ankle? You’ll see it today 3:00.

  1. As much as we’re losing games, I do like that Coach Gannon really does enact what he believes, that after the game he’s just focused on the next one, and he doesn’t like to look back or let things drag. Whether this ends up hurting the team in some ways who knows but you have to applaud that he sticks true to what he believes in.

  2. Just looked. Will Johnson has missed every divisional game this year, both against Seattle, one against SF, and will miss the second one against SF tomorrow. Wtf man. Now we know why there was injury concerns with him in the draft, he’s already missed 4/11 games this season.
