Ride Along to Red Wings Training Camp with Lucas Raymond

What number of campuses are you? Five, which is crazy. [Applause] All right. Um, heading to day two camp. It’s um 8:30 in the morning. I got a little company in the car. So, gonna stop for some coffee and um then get ready to go. Number campuses for you. Five, which is crazy. [Applause] How do you just talk about like what you remember from your first camp? [Applause] Yeah, I just remember my first camp. It was uh obviously a lot of nerves and you know getting to to play and compete against NHL guys for the first time. Here he comes the rookie Raymond up across the line out in front of the goal scores. There we go off the inside of the post and in. And that was a big goal. I mean, obviously a lot of fun and um something that I’ll remember for all of my my playing time, but it was uh yeah, it was a lot of fun for sure. I hung out with Bergie a lot, Bergie and Bradstrom, the Swedes coming in, so it’s kind of easy and then Veno as well. It was kind of fourth wheeling us. Uh he had the car and neither of us did. So, it was kind of nice to get rid from uh from the hotel to the rank. It was uh it was a lot of fun. like you come over here, it was the first time for me even playing away from home like I played in for London on my my entire career which is my hometown. So um just to come over here and um you know all the new impressions, coaches, players, it was um it was a lot of fun. This is what we call Stockholm parking right here. Yeah. Right in front. You just pull up right in front and you’d leave the like warning. You put that on like the warning blinkers. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just park right up front, put the warning hazard blinkers on and get out. My order has changed a lot. I remember my first year over here, I wasn’t a big coffee drinker. I’d do like a iced latte with some creamers or like some sweeteners or whatever it was. But nowadays I’m I’m strictly cold brew actually. Yeah. Hm. Still get creamer in it or no? No. No. Just Are you cold brew? Just strictly cold brew. Yeah. You can see that little jump in the morning. Yeah. It’s just a nice guy right there. Right. Thank you. No problem. Day two. We have to drive with you guys every morning. What? What a what a guy. Thank you. Raymond. All set back there. Thank you, sir. No problem. Appreciate that. Anytime. Yep. Did you guys hang out like when you your first camp? No, I think Dylan was a little too cool for me. Oh, have I invited you to dinner? No. Yeah, you did. Yeah, you did. Actually, my first training camp, I remember one of the first things when I came over was Dylan. We had dinner at a sushi place in Detroit, then I was invited to dinner up here and then we golf when I got back, too. And it was not a good showing of my golf game. I’ll say that. Come a long way. Come a long way. Yeah. Do you have a first impression then? I was the same way though. Yeah. Thought he was really nice. respectful young man who can solid play skate was very impressive and very confident person but not cocky and uh I think that’s very important for young players. So beside golf like what’s your kind of getaway from co hockey? For me I’d say it’s like just different like small stuff. It could be anything from just like talking to family and friends back home, like just going to dinners. Like before I used to play video games a lot and that was kind of a little bit of a getaway. Like a nice way to talk to friends back home, but stopped that like a couple years ago. was just like like really timeconuming and probably not great for you to stare into a screen for you know 4 hours. I feel like even just when we go to dinners on the road like we’ll try to not talk about hockey a lot like just talk about other stuff in life and um even though hockey is usually the subject that we’ll we’ll come back to. You try to and um yeah it’s nice. I I also feel like once you get into the season, you kind of get into this rhythm where you just you just kind of go on autopilot and uh I like that personally where you you have your routines and um you know kind of kind of makes it easier for you to to be able to rely and uh fall back on certain things. Who’s less of a morning person? I don’t know. I’d say Dylan. Yeah, that’s fair to say. But now I think I might be more of a morning person. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, you don’t have a choice. I don’t have a choice. And I I like it. Yeah, dude. I can’t believe you were talking about how you’re into reading and and and cooking. Yeah, give us the good stuff. I started reading last year. Got myself a Kindle um and I actually liked it a lot. And uh it’s actually a lot of guys on the team reading. Read all the Harry Potter books last year. Wow. Yeah, it’s a lot of books. Somebody ask how long did it take you? It took me all season. I mean, still that’s pretty good though. Yeah, it’s like what? Eight books. Eight books. Cooking. So, I’m not I I’d actually say I’m a pretty good cook. Cooking’s never been like one of my like the things I do. So, I picked it up a little bit, start cooking more. Um, just kind of like can control like exactly what you’re you’re putting into your body, like you know exactly what it is, all the product, but don’t like to do the dishes afterwards. So, it’s kind of the little tricky part for me. But, I heard a whole story. His mom came to to visit him and he was came into the locker room. I’ve never heard this guy talk about cooking, but she made a great dish. Believe it was steak and potatoes. And then he he must have picked up a few things cuz Sorry to tell your story for you, but No. Is that pretty accurate? Yeah, it is. Steak and potatoes. So that’s your that’s your dish. That’s my dish. Yeah. My signature dish used to be a carbonara. Actually, I I do have my dish in a cooking book. It’s called Lucas Carbonara. So that’s how big of a Wow. What cooking book? Yeah. What? Uh don’t know the name of it. It was people that will find it. Yeah. Yeah. Available on Amazon. I had no idea. This was back home when I was playing in Fonda and I Oh, wow. got asked to do a dish. It’s Lucas Coronara. All right, that’s it for me. Pulling into camp right now. Um, great chatting with you guys. Awesome to have your company on the way here. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music]

  1. Haven't been this excited about the wings since I watched them win the cup back in 2008, with the young talent looking more promising with every game I think this team can be a serious contender for the years to come. LGRW!
