You just told me before we started the show, what was the good news there about that Don Barlo character? Yeah, he’s back. He’s not on the injury. Yeah, he’s he’s he he was at shoot around this morning. So, that’s the good news. Bad news again, Joel Embiid missing tonight’s game in Detroit against the Pistons. Obviously eligible to play, but holding him out. So, let’s break it down here. Let’s start off with Jared McCain. How negative should we take this or how negative should the 76ers fan base take this that Jared McCain is back in the G League? Keith Fact, you know what is is is um let’s just say we all saw the games. He’s been pressing a little bit. He hasn’t been um looked himself. But but at the same time, I I think it’s something that that he needs to do. It’s warranted for him to go down there, right? Like he needs to go down there and and and get his legs and everything like that. Um, but yeah, the the fact that it’s not ideal. I just put it that way. But to me, the bad part was, and this is not a knock on Eric Gorton or anyone else, but yeah, the last time he played one of those games, um, you know, when when you had come off the bench before him, that’s not ideal. You know what I mean? So like you have to know that there’s a problem, you know, and and fortunately for him, he’s still young enough to go down there and learn from it. Now, it seems kind of weird because you look at Hollis Thompson. I mean, Hollis Solace, right? I mean, Hunter Silus, Hunter Silus flew in this morning, flew to Detroit this morning for the game and arrived right on time for shoot around. Why didn’t they do the same thing for Jared? You know what I mean? So like they want and both both were in the line and I’m sorry but both were in the lineup last night for the blue. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. So it’s it’s bad. I mean but but at the same time, you know, you spin it. He’s going to get more playing time. He’s going to do this. He’s going to do that. That’s just telling you right now he’s not ready to crack the rotation. Now, the one thing I will say about knee injuries, typically you can come back, but they say it normally takes after you’re playing, it’s going to take several months after that to get back to where you were. So, it’s not surprising, but at the same time, it’s not what the guy wants to be going down to the G- League. And he it’s absolutely his right to feel that way. If that’s in fact how he feels that way, I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say that’s how he feels. However, not to defend Jared McCain by any means, but look to your point, yeah, we watched his three games that he played and he averaged around 10 minutes per game over those three games. He hasn’t made a shot, Keith. Okay. He goes to GLeague last night. He goes three for 10. Okay. He needs to play basketball. Everybody knows in every sport there’s game shape and then there’s conditioning. I believe his conditioning is good, but that doesn’t mean that he’s got that he’s in game shape. That’s a totally different animal. You’re only going to get in game shape by playing in games. He played 23 games last year. It’s been a minute. So, if there is anyone that could ever rest easy on the idea, it’s not necessarily about his talent or his skill. It’s about what physically he can do for you after a huge layoff from playing basketball. Then it’s one thing that if it’s then certainly Jared McCain can be that one guy that could say, “All right, this isn’t a skill thing. I don’t all of a sudden suck at basketball. This means I got to play. I got to get my shots. I got to get my run. And I’m not going to be doing that up here with this guard heavy lineup.” And also, by the way, a head coach in Nick Nurse that is having those guards play 35 to 40 minutes a night. So Jiren McCain is in no way, shape, or form ready for that. So the 20 minutes he played last night for the Blue Coats, despite the the shooting woes continuing even down there at that level, the man’s got to play. Don’t take this as a personal thing or even a a decree on your talent or a hit on your talent. You got to play and that’s the only place that you’re going to play regularly. Yeah, I agree. And and and that’s the thing. I mean, you know, like you said, the minutes aren’t there. Like, you know, when he’s been out there, he’s been kind of like a liability on defense. He can’t make a bucket. He’s forcing shots. So, it’s kind of like those seven, eight minutes he was getting, they were like, I’m not going to say useless, but it just didn’t impact winning, right? So, he needs a lot more. He needs a lot more time. Yeah. He need Yeah, he needs more time. And and and this is something. And then also, let’s face it, you got to get your confidence back up, too, right? You go down there, you do stuff, it’s going to come around and and you know, Reggie Reading is down there, who one of the former Sixers player development coaches and assistant coach there. Couple other people, they’re going to take care of him. They’re going to look out for him. They’re going to look out for him. And then, you know, he’ll come back on Sunday and and and we’ll practice with the team for Monday’s game. You know, everything will work out for him, hopefully. Yeah. And Nick Nurse was asked about this by you guys yesterday and he just he he very nonchalant about it. Like look, this is what the guy needs. This is what he’s doing. He was that was pretty much his message from yesterday’s press conference. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Basically, he needs to do it. I mean, you know, it’s kind of like a player going down in in TripleA, like uh baseball player going out TripleA before they play. Now, here’s the difference, though. The difference is what typically happens and I think we wouldn’t people would not be talking about it. If before Jared McCain made his debut if they said hey look what we’re going to do is Jared hasn’t played in a year. He’s a little rusty. We need to do stuff. We’ll have Jared go down to the GLeague. He’ll play in a couple games. He may even participate in training camp with him because he didn’t have a training camp. Right. So, we’ll do all that and then after a week, we’ll bring them back up. They do that a lot. I mean, there’s been times when, you know, Steph Curry has came back from an injury and next thing you know, he went down to where, you know, the Golden State Warriors G-League team to put in practice to do so. He didn’t play in the game, but he practiced with the guys, right, to get his to get in that um to get back in shape. I honestly think if the Sixers would have done that, no one would be saying anything. They were like, “Okay, this is just part of the ramp up process.” You know what I mean? But the fact that he played in two games and we he looks like a guy who hasn’t played in a while now. Everybody’s like, “Oh, shucks. He’s getting demoted.” You know what I mean? But I think a lot of the fans understand why. It’s just that the way it went down is is is just is not how it usually goes. Let’s just put it that way. It’s unusual. You’re muted. Muted. On. I bet you the Sixers came in here because they’re not They don’t like what I’m about to say. They muted my microphone. No, I had a coughing fit, so I had to mute that. Um the uh the Sixers did him dirty. Sixers did them dirty. I I to have him come up and play, then only have him play 10 minutes, then have Eric Gordon come off the bench before him, then send him down to the G-League. It was like the better way to do this is the situation that you just laid out. Have him start out down there, have him do his thing, get the minutes up, trust the knee, trust the thumb, get back into game shape, and then come back up to the NBA level and that’s where he could start doing your thing hopefully like you were through the 23 games that we saw you play at a very high level last year. Uh when we come back, I do want to focus on Joel Embiid and how concerning this should be or if this is all precautionary being that he’s not playing again tonight against the Pistons. We’ll talk about that more when we return. This is Locked on 76ers and Locked on Sixers YouTube channel. Let me tell you right now about Drip Drop. You guys heard about Drip Drop? Um Joel, the process Embiid discomfort held out of the game against the Celtics there. Round three against the Celtics. No structural damage after a re-evaluation. still not playing in Detroit tonight against the Pistons. Is this just knee management, Keith, or is this another cause for concern about a tough stretch ahead for Joel Embiid? You know, I I think it’s is uh it has to be a cause for concern, right? I mean, it has to be because, you know, when you talk about it, initially we were just talking about the left knee. Now all of a sudden they’re saying, “Well, he has soreness and we’re trying to rest him with the with the right knee.” So yeah, that’s a cause for concern because when you say knee discomfort, when you say knee soreness, you’re not really saying what’s going on. You’re you you’re saying like how it feels, but what is it? Is it swollen? You know, is it like you know what I mean? Like what’s going on? Did the swelling not go down? you know. Um, so to me, yeah, it’s it’s a cause for concern, dude, because we’re looking at this right now. Joel, the Sixers are about to play in 12 games. This will be their 12th game of the season. Joel Embiid would have missed half of their games already. half, you know, and yeah, that’s a major cause because it’s kind of like in a way you look at it, it’s not a setback on the left knee, but it’s a setback because what happens is we weren’t expecting Joel to play until what, December? We were thinking maybe then he comes out, they’re doing all this other stuff and now all of a sudden he’s going to miss three games in a row. One because of scheduled back to back. And here’s the thing. So now you have knee discomfort after playing 25 minutes, the most minutes you have played in a season. So I mean this season thus far. So yeah, they’re saying they don’t know where it came from, but he did fall and had a tough fall on the floor. But at the same time, yeah, to me is a cause for concern. It is. No matter how they want to downplay it, you remember they tried to downplay last season and what happened, right? So, 19 games. 19 games. So, to me, it’s more like is the PR hitting the like is, you know, don’t panic folks, the sky isn’t falling. You know, it’s like, you know, I’m not calling it quite the Titanic, but they like, oh, don’t worry about it. It’s just that, you know, the deck of chairs just, you know, fell over. But everything will be okay. Everything will be okay. Yeah. I don’t I I unfortunately as optimistic as I was and I even said this as early as last week, I’m just happy he’s playing. Like I’m just happy that he’s out there and he’s he he didn’t miss the start of the season. He was out there for the opener. He’s still getting you 20 points when he plays, you know, more than 20 minutes, you know, 20 minutes or more other than the opener against the Celtics. Like this is all these are all good things. But even in that vein and even taking that into consideration as we are trained to with Joel Embiid, one injury starts to look better and another one pops up. You’re worried about the left knee, bang, the right knee starts to bother him. So this is unfortunately, I believe, the state that we are going to be in until whenever it is. Joel Emi just says that’s it. That’s the career. Now I don’t think that’s going to happen now. I don’t think it’s going to happen next year, but he’s got four years still on that deal. It could happen at the very end of that. It could happen somewhere in between. I certainly don’t think it’s right now. So, for an unforeseen amount of time from now until whenever that happens, this is Joel Embiid. And I I’m not rooting for it. I’m certainly not liking it. But I see no reason to think it’s going to be anything different. I don’t see him getting healthier as his career goes on. I certainly don’t see him getting better as his career goes on. The most optimistic, the most the combination of most optimistic and real, I think, is a guy that plays you 20, 25 minutes at most. You never really see him hit the high gear like he tried against the Raptors in that game and run, you know, flat out sprint the length of the court. You see him be a guy that can get you rebounds, can hit you a jump shot, maybe facilitate a little bit, hit you a three, but certainly not a guy that even sniffs an All-Star game again for the rest of his career. And I know that might sound damning. I know that might sound negative, but considering the situation and his injury history in the league already, I actually think that’s kind of optimistic to talk about him even giving you 20 points, him even getting you 10 rebounds, him even being a facilitator for 25 minutes. But you got to keep him away from the, you know, full boore, full sprint down the court because he just can’t do it anymore. Yeah. I mean, yeah. I mean, yeah. Yeah. We’ll we’ll get the definite on that one. But yeah, I understand what you’re saying. And the thing is my question is can he still get you those rebounds that he was like could back in the day. You know, that’s the question. I mean, you know, yeah, he’ll he’ll get some, but you know, it just seems like until he gets that lateral movement all the way back is he’s going to be out of position a lot, you know what I mean? A lot of times. So, yeah, he is what he is. But, you know, to me, I I also feel like, and I was talking to a friend, um, Wayne, my my man Wayne this morning about Joel, and he was like, he mentioned that he feels like the 76ers are playing better with Joel right now. And I said, yeah. I said, for now, right? And and he was like, like, you mean like when he gets in shape? I said, no, like basically they’re going when it when they start going up against stiffer competition. And Joel, of course, when he gets in shape, you know, the hope is that he’s going to be able to dominate games with play. You know, right now, I mean, I’m talking about offensive, like being hard to guard. So, I feel like when they go to the playoffs or something like that, if Joel can show some improvement to getting closer to back where he was, yeah, they definitely going to need them because when you look at this team right now, you know, it’s kind of sort of like they have been extremely exciting, extremely exciting. But when you look at it, they only played three teams with a winning record. And I don’t care how close they played in two of those games. A L is a L. And then we can also say that Paul George didn’t play, but they can also say they had three guys or four guys who didn’t play as well. So, you know, a loss is a loss. And right now, the 76ers have been beating up on losing teams. They’ve been exciting, but they’ve been beating up on losing teams and they’re winless against winning teams. So with that being said, I feel like they do need a Joel Embiid. They do they are going to need him when when later on in season when you play against better competition or when in the playoffs. So that’s what I’m saying. But right now, yes. Can he keep up? No. Does the ball slow up when he’s out there? Yes. Does the ball get stagnant? Yes, indeed. But later on, I think that they’re going to need him. Well, I think we were making car analogies last week or maybe it was the week before and it’s like I feel like Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. You got your Lamborghini, but what good is a Lamborghini if you take it, you know, if at 60 miles per hour the wheel pops off. You know what I mean? Like that’s just kind that’s kind of how it feel. I know everyone likes to talk about the Lamborghini parked in the, you know, the the trailer driveway and that meme and all that, but like Yeah, I think the Sixers might Yeah, exactly. the Sixers might have that, but if you get in a Lamborghini, you get 60 miles per hour and the wheel pops off. What fun is that? You know, and I feel like that’s kind of where you’re at where it’s like, all right, just hey, enjoy the Sunday cruise on a Lamborghini because once you get this thing out there on the highway, that ain’t going to it just doesn’t go well. And and that’s just kind of I think how a lot of us, myself included, are conditioned to think when it comes to Joel Embiid. And I Hey, look, I I hope he finds that steady style. You’ve mentioned Eric Gordon in the past. Eric Gordon realized he can’t jump out of the gym anymore, but he can still shoot. So that’s going to be his career. Whatever the groove is with Joel Embiid, I hope he finds that in the very near future. Because even if you find somebody reliable, I’m not talking he’s going to be a three minute off the bench type of guy, but whatever it is that will make him that 20 25 minute type of guy for the foreseeable future to help a team win and at least contribute defensively and in the rebound game as well. I hope he finds that sooner rather than later because it really does pain me uh Keith after we watched that game against the Raptors and we saw him hit that that next gear at least try to push it and keep the wheels on the car. Well, he hasn’t played since. So, I think that tells you a lot about his status going forward, unfortunately. Hope for the best. Hope for the best, but uh doesn’t mean I’m betting on it. Right. Right. Exactly. Uh when we come back, I want to talk about this Pistons rematch tonight. what the Sixers what we can expect from the 76ers with the 7:30 tip off tonight against the Detroit Pistons who have rattled off eight wins in a row and are now the number one team in the Eastern Conference. Keith Pompei, uh you mentioned at the top of the show that he is going to be rejoining the 76ers. In what capacity and what level do you think he does that tonight? Uh you know it’s hard to say. I mean because he hasn’t played in eight games or nine games, what it was. I mean I think you got to do him like you do everyone else, right? I don’t expect him to start tonight. Okay. Um, I mean just because like was they’re they’re going into like he he missed literally nine games. So he although he looked good, he still missed nine. So I I would see think that day one he’ll get him out there to see what he can do and and and then see like at what his conditioning is like and and then base it off of that because it’s not like when we talk about minutes restrictions these other guys were dealing with knee issues like we’re talking about his elbow like unless somebody bumps into it or whatever like He should be fine. The only problem is he really hasn’t been able to do a lot of conditioning and working and well a lot of working on his shot because it was his shooting hand. But but no, I I it’s hard to say like what he’s going to do tonight. You know what I mean? I I think to find out and see feel f feel out how he’s playing, you know, and take it from there. Is this weird to you to to miss that that much time with the lasser? I mean, I don’t know anything about the laceration. So, I mean, a badly cut elbow, right? Like, how bad was this? Yeah. You know, and and that’s the thing during shoot around, you know, we asked him about it. Um, you know, I asked him, you know, what what took so long and and what was going on. And, you know, he he he spoke what he hold on one second. What he what he basically said is, and I have his quote right here, he said, “I had a cut in Abu Dhabi and it just never and it never had a chance to heal.” He said it just swell and the and the cut couldn’t fully heal so I had to get a procedure done on it. Right. Um so and then we were talking about well did it was there something wrong like was there like um you know well he talked about swelling was it infection he said that was the stuff that we were trying to avoid. You know we we just wanted to get it taken care of so it’s not a lingering lingering pro a lingering problem. So, and the only thing he was able to do was get on a bike, watch film, you know, like, so he really couldn’t do dribble. All All he could do was left-handed stuff. So, yeah, but that’s what it was. It seems to me that there might have been, and again, I’m just saying this. I don’t know. But there might have been like maybe some infection or fear of definitely some fear that they was going to get infected and and so they had to get a procedure done. Fair enough. Um, so what can the Sixers do tonight to, you know, avoid a 13point thirdarter deficit and Cade Cunningham going off for 17 points in the third quarter like he did in the last matchup against the Pistons? How do they contain Cuttingham? I mean, I think the biggest problem, the biggest thing that they have to do is you got to you got to stop these one possession one one possession um possessions. I mean, one shot possessions in the in the third quarter. Like, you got to get some offensive rebounds. Like, if you’re not really shooting the ball hard, you got to like go hard to the board and and grab some rebounds and and do things like that, right? You know, secondly, I I do think that Kade, now here’s the thing. Kade is listed as questionable for tonight’s game. Um, now he’s one of those guys that when he’s listed as questionable, sometimes you want to play, but he has a left hip contusion. Um Jaylen Duren is also listed as question with a sprained right ankle. Right. So when when we say stuff like that, you’re kind of like to a point like this could get interesting. Could this be one of those scheduled wins or whatever. Right. Yeah. Right. But but um but but I I I do think the fact that he’s hampered a little bit and and you will see like Kelly, you know, is coming off of a pretty good fourth quarter against Jaylen Brown. I think Kelly is going to be up for the challenge to try to shut him down, you know, this game. Talking about Jay. Fair enough. Fair enough. Uh I’m going to try to get this right now. I thought I had it in front of me. I did not have it in front of me. A Missoozi. Uh the line on tonight, Pistons 4 and a half point favorites at home against the Sixers. That’s the way that’s working right now. 4 and a half point spread in favor of the Pistons. So I’ll see if that moves closer to game time with the news of Kate Cunningham, obviously. Keith, uh you’re in Detroit right now. Yeah, I’m in the D in Detroit. That’s what they call it. They call it the D. Oh, I Oh, I know. I don’t know if I’ve ever told this. I I got engaged in Detroit. I got engaged No, I Long story short, I was working. Were you in Was it in Detroit or the Detroit suburbs? It was in 18th Mile. It was It was on It was in Detroit proper. New Year’s Eve. Lions were playing the uh the Sunday night game, I believe it was, and it was the last stop of the NFL schedule. I was out there. My wife said to me well before the game was scheduled, she said, because I was working for Sunday Night Football at the time, and she goes, “Wherever that last game is New Year’s Eve, I want to be there and wherever it is.” So, it was down to like, I think it was San Francisco, Miami, and Detroit. And Detroit got the last game. So, no disrespect to people in Detroit, but I think you’d rather be in San Francisco. You rather be in Miami. Miami, right? Yeah. Exactly. You know, it’s funny. I like the I like Detroit. Detroit. I love I love Detroit. Detroit reminds me of Philly. It reminds me of Philly. Detroit’s got a lot of Philly in it. Yeah. Yeah. Like here’s the thing. When you go on the East Coast, you know, and the thing is I lived, you know, a lot of different places, but I grew up in Philly. So whenever I go somewhere, you always know the Philly cat. Like you just know it. Like you know the dude from Philly by the way we dress, the way we talk, little bit of swag with us, right? So when I’m come when I come to the Midwest, I always know somebody from Detroit. so much foe. I remember once it was a friend of mine and we were in New Orleans and I’m sorry for being long- winded, but we were in we were in New Orleans. Uh, and it was like the day after the Sixers played, but we had to stay an extra day because um flights were cancelled because of the snowstorm in Philly, whatever. So, he brings this girl over, this young lady, and he’s like, “Yo, man, this my this such and such. I met her. she from Detroit. And I looked at her and I was like, “Uh, you ain’t from Detroit. You ain’t from the D.” And she was like, “No, I know you ain’t from the D.” And then she was like, “How can you tell?” I said, “Cuz I can look at you and tell it.” And she’s like, “Yes, I’m from Birmingham.” Now, Birmingham is cool and all that, but that’s like, you know, a little ritzy area, whatever, you know, this and that. But she was not giving any Detroit vibes at all. and she was like, “Are you from the date?” And I’m like, “No, I’m from Philly.” But I can tell I’ve been there long enough. So, I like Detroit. I really like Detroit. A lot of people don’t like it. Some people don’t like it. You know what I mean? And and and and I and they got their reasons why, but to me, growing up in the inner city, Philly, you know, Detroit is an inner city. I like I like I liked it as well. I liked it as well. I didn’t plan my life to get engaged in Detroit, but that’s just the way the cars go. I would rather get engaged in Miami on South Beach or going across that was it Golden Gate Bridge, whatever it’s called. Oh, hell yeah. Yeah. Like over there, you know, over there because you know that the nice restaurants nearby there and all that like that area. Yeah, dude. She Yeah. Yeah. Instead instead y’all were trying not to get hit by a car while walking across the street in the snow. Real quick, I I I dropped the one there, you know, propose. She’s I was going to propose at the end of the year anyway. She had given an ultimatum at the, you know, this year we’re breaking up and I was like, “All right, fine. I’ll wait till literally 11:59 midnight of the last day of the year.” And I did. But anyway, I proposed and right right as I proposed, literally I I get up off the knee and she said, “Yes, of course.” And a guy drove by. It was so perfect Detroit. A guy drove by in a classic Ford Mustang and he just like beeped his horn real quick and he goes, “Hey buddy, that’s how you do it.” I was like, “Thanks, bro.” He’s like, “Good luck to you.” He’s like, “Thanks.” and they drove away. It was It couldn’t have been more Detroit. It was perfect. It was absolutely perfect. And they they also have a clothing store that I go to. There’s a guy who used to live in Philly. So I go in there and dude, let me tell you, when I go in that clothing store, like they give you discounts because I’m like, “Dude, I can’t pay for this, man. The stuff y’all trying to sell.” But when you go in there, it’s like the OG’s like the way they had their suits on, the cash. I know what you’re talking I know. I’m like, “Yo.” Okay. Okay. Players Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. That’s great. Uh Keith Pompei in Detroit at the moment learning all about the D. Um and Sixers got the Pistons tonight 7:30. I've been fighting for BEED. It looks to me like he is taking games off… this is a mgmt problem. But, if he is on the sideline. He is jumping up and down, running around. PG, why is he not playing?? Im done with the drama.
Xavier Silas walked so Hunter Sallis could run
I'm glad they sent McCain to the g league, they did the same with klay Thompson after he came back from injury and went on that championship run that yr with the warriors.
I only watch when Embiid plays; he has worked so hard to develop his skills… it’s just always so difficult to watch these hard working people’s bodies give out — and to read “fans” commenting “throw the bum away” as soon as a decline begins.
Stop hating u all did not have this winning
Why does this show get a new host every season?
