Trent Grisham ACCEPTS Qualifying Offer, Are the Yankees DOOMED?!?

Disaster has struck the Bronx. Uh, feel bad saying it. Welcome in emergency podcast. Tit Gisham has accepted the qualifying offer that neither of us ever expected him to accept. And the question is, rather the prompt, are the Yankees doomed? Now, understand this. Do I think Tan Gisham’s a bad baseball player? No. Do I think Trent Gisham is worth a decent contract this off season? Yes, I do. But and honestly, it has less about Trent Gisham and more about the future and the Yankees the way they spend their money. If the Yankees were the Dodgers and didn’t care about spending money, I we wouldn’t be as concerned. The problem is the Yankees told us they want to try and get under the 300 million. They’re already at 284, I believe, uh, projected after this. Not looking good. But the last thing I’ll say before I pitch it over to my wonderful co-host here, Gary Sheffield Jr., is that I don’t like we I mean, we we joked about on the phone earlier today. You called me like, “Oh my god, this is so bad. We should just be called I I’m I’m proposing a a a name change for our podcast.” And what’s that? It’s not the Yankees Unloaded podcast anymore. It’s the it’s a good problem to have podcast because once again, we’re going to have to hear how it’s a good problem to have when you have Gisham and you have Spencer Jones who just got added to the 40man roster and Jason Dominguez, maybe Cody Bellinger. Notice how I said maybe. Aaron Judge. Like this is a log jam. And Gary, you have even worse news to read to our audience. I sure do. And it ain’t great. So, let me get to the news because I want to make sure. And we were told by Major League Baseball that we’re not reporters, so we weren’t able to go to the winter meetings and cover the event. So, we’re very sorry about that. Here’s us reporting. These are the rules for Major League Baseball. Because there are a lot of people there are going to be a lot of people who are already in the comments saying, “Oh, but hold on a second. Gisha may have signed for this 22 and some change million-doll contract. They didn’t expect him to accept this deal. They can trade this wrong. Cannot trade it. Here are the trade restrictions that are in front of our face now. Even with the players consent, which you need after they sign the qualifying offer, by the way, so they essentially have a no trade just like Ajan Carlos did. They cannot be traded until officially June 15th. And for those of you who are with us in the winter, that’s a problem because June’s not in the winter, that’s in the summer. That’s a problem. So when we hear, and Jake, I’m glad you brought it up. We wouldn’t care if we sign a Trent Gisham for $22 million. It’s a it’s a massive overpay in the Yankees position. But if we were the Dodgers or you’re one of these teams and maybe you’re looking at the Dodgers and saying we had Michael Conforto, he underperformed, but let’s say he played a lot better than what he did this year and the Dodgers said, “We’ll just overpay on this player and bring him back. He had a nice year.” No one would care because the Dodgers simply spend whatever they think’s necessary to bring talent on the field. But when you hear people from the New York Post reporting, yeah, the Yankees sound like from everything that we’re hearing, right, you hear it from the Joel Shermans, you hear it left and right, the Yankees intent is to get under the $300 million mark. Now, that $284 million salary essentially that you brought up, right, that payroll that was tweeted from Darius Glover. He was essentially reporting about roster resource that has the Yankees payroll at $286 million. Howal Steinbrunner, and this was his conclusion, is he’s going to have to pay over 300 million to actually field a good baseball team. It doesn’t seem possible. The Yankees, and this is where this is going, Jake, in my opinion, said our number one priority is Cody Bellinger. Jake, can you remind me again? I don’t know if you know the exact figure. Can you remind me how much Cody Bellinger made in 2025 this past season? Wasn’t it 22? It was $25 million. 25 million. Yeah. We lost Devin Williams, right? Who was he was hot and cold, right? And you said that you still would like him back, but not as closer. We lost Devin Williams, right? Paul Goldmid and what he did against lefties. That all that stuff’s off the roster, right? We just gave Trent Gisham a massive raise, right? Probably it’s I wouldn’t say it’s undeserved, but he didn’t play to this level at this type of dollar. Having said that, Cody Bellinger being retained on this roster, our roster is already worse and we’re already over $300 million. This is poor allocation of funds. That’s really where we’re at. So this is the frustration in my opinion before I kick it back Yankees fans have with Brian Kman and Hal Steiner both of them which is that the allocation of funds is so out of whack that we can’t deal with this because we have a budget. If we resign Trent Gisham to this ludicrous one-year deal, it’s ludicrous. But they were comfortable going up to 330, 340. People in our comment section wouldn’t be that upset. They’d probably just be saying, “What are we going to do with Spencer Jones? What are we going to do with Jason Dominguez? We probably going to have to trade one of those guys.” Now, we have to trade those guys to bring talent in here and find ways to get money off of our payroll. This is a problem, Jake. So, I want to say lastly here, Trent Gisham’s a good baseball player. I’m really happy about the steps that he’s taken as a player. I want him to make as much money as possible. And really, I was rooting for him to get a long-term contract elsewhere. Brian Cashman made what we thought was going to be the right move, but now that it’s bitten us in the ass, and he’s accepted that qualifying offer, Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees in their budget, we’re in trouble. So, I’m just going to sit here. Jake, you concluded you want a Mai on this roster, right? A lot of people want Cody Bellinger back. Some want Kyle Tucker. Some want Quan. I don’t see how all this fits. how all these puzzle pieces fit with Trent Gisham now locked into the mix. It’s a lot to really consume. It is basically we’re at the point where we’re about to find out how valid those reports were. Yeah. Because or things are going to h like Well, no, no, no, no, no, no. We’re going to we’re going to find out because there’s no way the Yankees are going to be like, “Yeah, they he was never going to take that and then all of a sudden now he is and now we have to make a budget decision.” No, the Yankees know what they’re going to do. Hal Steinbrer knows if he’s going to go over that 300 million or not, which he is going to go over the 300 million. They’re not staying below 300 million. That’s ridiculous. Um, I we we discussed this. I think for those of you that are Spencer Jones fans out there like myself or Jason Dominguez fans, Jaydom for Life, uh, this is really bad news for you. Really bad. They could both be traded to make room for Trent Gisham and Cody Bellinger. Like, this is serious now. like we might we might never see Spencer Jones and pinstripes because of this. So that’s something to keep in mind. And you know maybe this was always the case. Maybe Aaron Judge had something to do with this too. Aaron Judge did say you know in the off season or you know the interview the the exit meetings he said he wanted them to bring back Bellinger and Gish. It’s what he said. So, I have no idea how much control he’s got. Which, by the way, um John Haymon had this to say as a report. Obviously, great reporter. If you’re with us in the audio, maybe the sarcasm comes through. Yeah, he’s the one that said that uh Trent Gisham was uh unlikely. He said it was unlikely, but I don’t want to sit here and just cherrypick the results, but here’s what I wanted to bring up. his report was that in a in a quote from the Yankees perspective, they were somewhat surprised that Trent Gisham accepted this deal. Now, Jake, you and I both were not going to revise what our previous episode we were just saying, which was that we don’t expect him to take this deal. There’s just no way. You have a career year in the last year. You’ve never played this way ever. You’ve never done this. You’ve really hardly hit over 200 in any season. You just hit 34 home runs in the Bronx. anyone thinks you can perform for them. He’s going to get that four or five year deal. The Yankees thought the same thing, but I want to seconduess what I said in that last episode. I want to revise what I said, and I’m not going to call it a flip-flop. I’m going to call it putting my hand up and saying I was wrong. If you’re the New York Yankees, and I think what you said is important here. You said there’s no way they go under 300 million. There’s just no way. But if the Yankees actually put up their entire off seasonason, the entire nature of what they’re trying to do in the offseason was essentially dictated by the decision of Trent Gisham. If that were the case, Brian Cashman and House Steinrunner would be the worst things that have ever happened to the New York Yankees. If that were the case, now I agree with you. There is no way in hell this Yankees team has a payroll under 300 million. If they do, we should riot. But having said that, why would you offer $22 million to someone and say, “Oh, I’m surprised he took that money.” And now your off season can’t survive. The pursuit of Amay, the pursuit of Cody Bellinger, the pursuit of maybe a right, you’re talking about some of the trades that would be bringing money onto the books. If all that falls through because Trent Gisham somewhat surprised you, you’re not good at this job and you don’t deserve to be here. So, I hope Jake, you’re right. I hope some of these early reports that we saw out of the New York Post tend to just not be accurate because if they are, our team got worse just by simply retaining some of the players on this roster and we’ve lost a lot of pitching. Um whether you love those options or not. So Brian Cashman has a lot of work to do now and I sure hope that House Diamond is giving him some runway to go out and spend some money. Yeah. And you know, I I want to actually bring up something. Um, you know, I think I sent it to you, Yankee Source. Um, there was something on Cass Okamoto and I thought it was interesting how he basically sounds like he wants to go to the Yankees and then you have Imi who doesn’t care about going to like the West Coast. Right. Right. This could be such a transformative off season. And yes, the Gisham move like really puts a damper on it to a degree, but if you just find a way, you bring back Cody Bellinger, you add Okamoto, you add Emi, that’s a pretty good off season. And if Gisham isn’t a one-year wonder and maybe he just found something, unlikely, but if he did just find something and 34 home runs is like what he is now, that’s a good baseball player. I’m expecting to see somewhere in the ballpark of the mid20s, which is still some pop, but this was a career year and he hit 234. If you told people, and I heard this a lot, oh, we wouldn’t want to go sign we wouldn’t want to go sign um what’s his what’s his face? and he’s practically a borderline hall of famer from Philadelphia. Left-handed DH. What’s his name? Uh oh. You are you talking about um Schwarber? Kyle Schwarber. There are a lot of people saying he’s a great player, but he’s not a great fit, right? That was the word that they used. This isn’t a fit. Awesome player. We love what he does. But isn’t Trent Gisham, what he tries to do, just a much worse version of what he’s doing? Hit 250 at best, but he’s going to go hit you 50 bombs. And yet, people were saying that was a bad fit because we need more Quans. We need more Bellinger-esque guys who can slap a single the other way, run the bases hard, play good defense. These things were seen as fits. And the Yankees just put out a qualifying offer for a player that doesn’t accommodate what people were telling me were fits. That’s my problem with what we’re looking at right now. So, um I want to say that it’s interesting that you’re saying the Yankees are gonna have to make super aggressive moves at the top of their farm system with trades. Guys like Spencer Jones, guys like Jason Dominguez. But what I find interesting is there’s going to have to be some money, you would guess, going outbound. I one of the offers that I had and I talked about Ryan McMahon potentially. This, by the way, Jake, wraps a bow on everything you said when it came to Ryan McMahon. You like the defender, right? And you said it was comparable with what Hayes was doing. It was comparable maybe with what some other players out there on the market. But what no one talks about is when you make mistakes, okay? You bring in a player who’s a great defender who really doesn’t hit a whole lot. He had a fine postseason. We were really happy about that, but we don’t like the long-term look of this deal. We definitely don’t like the money on it. Now, when something surprises you and you have to eat $22 million for a good, not great player in Trent Gisham, now you sort of look at your roster and say, “Ah, I’m paying 22 million. I’m paying almost $40 million for Trent Gisham and Ryan McMahon. Is that the best way I could have spent my money? Or could I have spent $40 million on a on a Kyle Tucker, right? On some of these players that are going to be very expensive in their own right.” But this is sort of how you swell your payroll. This is sort of what the Yankees have done over the years, which is sign two or three players where you’re like, they’re not a bad player, but this feels like a poor allocation of funds. So Jake, who do you think’s the most likely to be dealt? Cuz I know you talked about Trent Gish. You know, you talked about Trent Gisham being here and what could happen to Spencer Jones, what could happen to Dominguez. My assumption is the most uh probably the the person who’s on the hot seat the most is probably Spencer Jones due to the style of player he is. He really is expected to be a better version of Trent Gisham, better defense, but mainly more speed, right? More versatility there. But are you more worried about Jones or you worried about Dominguez? Because I have to imagine Dominguez is more so the fit that they’re looking for as opposed to Jones. You know, I feel like the Ryan McMahon trade is really what comes out of this Gisham thing. I think they trade Ryan McMahon. I think they I could even see them getting Okamoto now and I think that somebody would uh cuz obviously we nibbled, right? We nibbled on not just two years of it because now there’s for those of you who are wondering this is two years $32 million and Ryan McMahon$6 million a year for 2026. There’s the lockout as we go into probably half of a 2027. We’re rooting for the best there but you’re probably talking about 16 million then 8 million the following year. Do you think there’s a market for that? Cuz I know the Yankees tried to trade Marcus Strowman at the beginning of this past season. Were unable to move his $18.5 million. obviously probably a worse player much further down in his career. Do you think Ryan McMahon’s actually tradable? You probably have to attach a prospect to it. Um, which is honestly, you know, Brendan Beck. Brendan Beck is a guy that they didn’t add to the 40man roster. They’re going to lose in the rule of five draft, probably a bunch of others. TJ Romfield. You didn’t love that, did you? No. No, I didn’t. Um, congrats. You put Spencer Jones, ERC, and well, the the guy that’s always hurt. Um, and I always blank on his name, but yeah, I that this is actually why I get so aggravated is that the rule of five draft is a great thing and should happen and I understand, you know, the Yankees get cooked in the rule of five draft because they have great arms that get picked up like Garrett Whitlock for instance. Chase Hampton, by the way, is the name you were looking for. Isn’t it so funny? I can never remember that guy’s name. No, you’ve never remembered it ever since I met you. Yeah. No, I I almost always want to say um I can’t even remember that guy’s name anymore. So, who who even knows? Um No. Anyway, so yeah, Chase Hampton, but no, my biggest thing is this, Gary. I know you’ll be on the same page with me on this one. If you feel like you are going to lose guys to rule five draft, right, the rule five draft is a great thing because it allows like these guys to finally get an opportunity somewhere else. You can’t just pick up a guy willy-nilly off the rule five draft. If you get them, they have to stay on your 26-man roster. That’s the catch, right? But here’s the problem. Okay, the Yankees have a lot of these players because as you saw, Ben Rice, what 24, 25 years old? TJ Rumfield’s going to be 27, right? And he’s he was hitting well. They’re going to lose him. This is the issue is when you have these guys, these guys need to be traded stat, right? Like literally the trade deadline, they should have unloaded Brendan Beck. They should have unloaded TJ Rumfield if they were not going to put him on the 40man roster to protect him from the rule five draft that guys obviously were going to get claimed. You have to trade him. Acted like they didn’t know their own decision. This is why they have the rule five is because it forces you to or get off the pot. That’s what my grandpa always loved to say. It forces you to make a decision with your talent because it is unfair for a player who’s been in your system who’s performing well enough to be on someone’s 40man. you need to do something with him. You may not have room, right? You may be on the Dodgers, you may be on the Padres’s, the Yankees, some of these teams who have a lot of talent on their field. Well, it is unfair to some of these young players who are trying to make a living. This is a job. Trade that guy. Put them in a system where they actually have room to grow and develop in this system. And some of these organizations, if you know Spencer Jones is going to take a roster spot, ERC is going to take a roster spot, Chase Hampton’s going to take a roster spot, you know these things ahead of time because you’re the general manager of that team, you’ve got to tell yourself it’s time to make moves with some of these guys. And sometimes you make a trade with one of these prospects just to get a prospect with more control, right? something that maybe if you don’t want to go get a player to be on your 40man and go be on your 26 and play at the big league level, go trade in that player for another prospect that you can hang on to longer, but the Yankees just seem comfortable getting rid of players for absolutely nothing. It’s that’s a bummer and it’s just not a good way to shouldn’t even say invest. It’s just not a way to trade in your talent. You’re just giving it away for absolutely nothing. And I understand like some of these players, you’re like, “Well, who cares about this guy? He’s not going to be a great player.” You can always get something for somebody. That’s just how this game works. So, um, let’s get to some of our super chats cuz I do see Ninja Hot Dog, who also has a voicemail for us. Um, really appreciate it. So, Ninja, thank you for the five says, “This tells me Trent isn’t confident in himself. I had the the opposite takeaway actually said, “The Yankees have settled. I repeat, they have settled. Unsurprising.” So, Jake, my perspective was the exact opposite of this. So again, we really appreciate the five and supporting the channel. And again guys, if you’re new here, please subscribe. Please like the video to help support our channel. And if you’ve ever heard of hyping, do that below if you can. Ninja said Jake that Trent Gisham is not showing confidence in himself. The way I see this is that Trent Gisham is making a major gamble here because if there’s any regression, and there’s absolutely a chance for regression, the median season for Gisham is a player hitting under 200. Let’s be real. If there’s any regression at all, that four to fiveear contract that a lot of us projected for him at maybe 15 million a year, maybe even hovering to the high teens, those days are over. So, there’s a lot at stake here. I actually thought that he was putting essentially just taking another gamble as we head towards the CBA lockout. What did you think about this decision? Because this choice by Gisham, he’s going to be a highly paid player in 2026, but there’s no guarantees after that. I don’t understand the decision by Gisham. Um, I feel like this is essentially this is like you can have your money now, but then you know, say you get you’re getting 22 million right now. It’s like I feel like he just is getting kind of he’s getting caught up in the numbers. Um, and I also think maybe he just really wanted to be a Yankee that bad, you know, which is fair by the way. I mean, technically speaking, technically speaking, that’s what you would want to hear, right? Oh, I just wanted to be a Yankee. And if I didn’t take this qualifying offer, the Yankees weren’t going to give me a four-year deal. Maybe Trent Gisham just said he didn’t have a choice. It’s not like he said, “Oh, I’m going to come back to the Yankees, but at the number that they want, well, the the number that works for the Yankees is probably nothing.” The Yankees just tried to get a fourth round pick by extending the qualifying offer, and now suddenly he’s on our books. That’s what happened. I know. People be like, “You didn’t do that.” Yeah, they did. This sucks on so many levels, though, because obviously what we talked about, but also I don’t like hating on Gisham. He was really good last year. I mean, he was the postseason I really soured on him, but these are the type of guys you should want to be in your organization. That’s the thing that sucks is that like if he really wants to be a Yankee that bad, that is a freaking positive. That’s a green flag. doesn’t mean it’s a good thing for us, but it’s good the in theory, right? And and yes, we’re going to root for we’re not going to root against him. No, that’s I mean, that’s ridiculous. But we we got it we got to adjust. Like Gary and I were laughing because we’re like there’s no way this just happened. The worst start ever for It’s the worst ever. It’s You know what it’s like? Have you Have you ever done a relay race like in gym class back in the day or whatever? I ran track. I quit very early. Okay. Um but I ran track in junior high. So yeah, I was the I was the um what do you call it? The anchor. So So this is like starting with the baton and tripping over your shoelace. Yeah, it it feels like that because I would I would I guess question for each and every listener that we have is that you can complain about Brian Cashman all you want. You can complain about Hal Diamond all you want. What do you think the Yankees should do now? Right. The Yankees are at 386 million. You have to realize they’re going to pass 300 million. But I guess the question is they’re probably not going to blow past that number. They’re not going to destroy it. They’re not going to go to 350. I don’t know why they can’t just do it like one year. Why can’t you just do it one year? Why can’t you just be like, “All right, we’re going to go after a” and be like, “You know what? Last year was unacceptable. Why can’t Hal have a spine?” I That’s what I don’t understand. Like you asking me. No, no, no. I like you would make more money by spending more money. We agree. But the problem is you’re asking why not? Cuz that’s actually a question a lot of people ask. They’re saying, “Well, why don’t you just spend 340 and then you can dive back?” Cuz we had this issue with Gisham. He’s off the books again next year. No qualifying offer. You’ll learn your mistake. Okay. But if you go to 340, here’s why they won’t. Because if Yankees fans get a sniff of what 345 looks like and you’re going to the ALCS, maybe the Yankees win the pennant and we would expect them to if they went out and spend big time money like that, right? Investing in talent, we would ask for it again. Spending his trust fund money. I see. We would have to ask again. And then he would have to answer questions as why wouldn’t you want that taste again? If we just made it to a World Series and you spent 340 million, why would you not want to do that again? That’s the can of wor. You just do not want to open Pandora’s box. So, I’m trying to answer your question why the Yankees won’t look at a mistake like this and say, “Okay, we’re now forced essentially you forced our hand to spend over the top.” They don’t want to do that because if you do, Yankees fans have new expectation of House NRunner. And I don’t think new expectations to spend more and more money is necessarily what Howal wants. So the by the way the spot track payroll table has the Yankees at 259 million projected and then six is that assuming Vulpi right the arbitration is that projecting all those numbers in you that’s projecting all of the arbitration okay so more so of the number that we talked about which was the number of 75 million now $22 million just flipped right off of that so the Yankees according to our previous data would have a hair over 50ome million dollar annually to spend. So when you see $300 million contracts, that’s not the number to look for. Look for the AAV, how much you’re paying them each season. The Yankees in theory would have, if our previous numbers were right, really can go out and get a player like maybe an Amai, right? And they’re going to probably spend some coin resigning guys like Rosario, some guys on their bench for some depth. It’s not a whole lot of money left because of what’s just happened. So, so Jake, maybe our previous um maybe our previous number provides some hope. Izzy says, “Ho ho ho, merry Christmas, everyone.” Boo. So, Izzy, who is like number 12 tonight, I assume is not happy about this development. Jake, I know we’re trying to take this in stride and just try and enjoy this process, but this is not a good start. If you guys wanted Kyle Tucker, he’s probably not coming. Uh J Tank 1562. Got to love the ETSs. Thank you for the five. Says Hal is going to use this as an excuse. I think I feel like I saw this on Twitter. So maybe I saw you on Twitter as an excuse not to sign Bellinger or Tucker. Jake, that was the worry I had. That was actually what I talked to you about on the phone. They’ll say the same old we made a competitive offer line. Hashfire cashman. Do you think Bellinger is now? Because I want to poach what you said. I don’t want to I don’t want to steal it. I want to give you credit. you said about Cody Bellinger, you don’t expect them to be the top bidder. You expect them to offer, as Tank says here, a competitive offer that’s comparable to the top offer. So, in I guess in the end, Cody Bellinger would take less money, but still a healthy contract to return to the Yankees if he wants to be back. Do you think what’s just happened with Trent Gisham puts this deal with Cody Bellinger or players alike in jeopardy? I don’t actually. Um I think they just are what they are. They’re gonna they have a number that they’re going to meet with Bellinger and it’s really that simple. Um you know, so it’s really Yeah, it’s that simple. I don’t really think I I believe it’s going to be very similar to Gisham. I think that we’re going to see Cody Bellinger have to make a decision. Does he really want to be a Yankee? Cuz I don’t think it’s going to be the most money. I think he’s going to get the most money from the Mets or the Dodgers. I think he does. But if if it’s like a ludicrous out if it’s a ludicrous overspend like the Yankees say you made 25 million in 2025, we’ll give you 27.5 million in 2026 for the next four seasons, right? That’s a maybe the next five seasons. It’s a big-time contract. But some team like the Mets says, “We’re going to give you 40 million a year.” It’s a lot of money to turn down. So, I don’t want to make it seem like Cody Bellinger’s a bad person for taking big-time money. The Yankees have to make an offer that’s close enough, right? And I felt like the Yankees made that type of offer to Juan Sodto when he chose the New York Mets. It’s where he wanted to go. The Yankees still have that responsibility to put out a real offer, not just the offer that they’re comfortable with. Ninja Hot Dog with the Two says, “This would be okay if it wasn’t for the stupid budget.” I almost disagree because I actually really like some of our young talent, right? Spencer Jones, Jason Dominguez, but now you got a player on the books for 22 million. There’s not really any place to play your young players, so you’re really forced to make a trade. Well, what if Quan isn’t on the market? You actually talked about that earlier today. What do you do, right? Do you make a trade just for the hell of it? Do you unload some of this talent? What do you do? Right. Oh, we’ll give you the runway in 2027. Or some of our young players are part-time players in platooning. That that there’s a lot on the plate here. There’s a lot. Um want to get to I don’t know if you noticed, Jake, we they’ve been awesome tonight with the supers. We really appreciate all the support. Um yeah, Jay Bordeaux with the two says, “Trent is going to be the most hated Yankee after this.” I completely disagree. I think that is misrepresented and misdirected hate. I don’t think that’s properly allocated. if we’re being honest here that if the New York Yankees offered one of you guys $22 million to come play for them and you loved playing there, I’m not going to make an enemy of a person like that, I think if you’re going to be upset with anyone, it should be Brian Kman and the Yankees. Um, and Miguel, thank you for the five. Says, “Hey fellas, I saw a post by Haymon a few days ago that the Yankees are finalizing a 5-year deal with Alonzo. Is this true or is this a fake account?” Is absolutely a fake a fake account, but Miguel, thank you for the super. Um, if Alonzo, if we’re signing more 235, 240 players with 40 homers, we’re making mistakes with our roster. So, I would go ahead and assume that that one is fake. Ninja Hot Dog with the five says both Yanks and Dodgers made about $750 million in 24. Dodgers put 90 or 79.3% of revenue in payroll. That’s a that’s a big number. That’s actually something we talked about earlier this year, Jake. Yankees put roughly half of the money that they made in 2024 into payroll. Look at where both teams are. One team is on the precipice of a dynasty and going for a repeat for the first time since um us, right? So, you have to imagine spending money does tend to really work out. So, Ninja, thank you again. And Scott Ross for the five. God, you guys have been awesome. Scott, welcome back. Um says it was always stupid to give the qualifying offer. So, Jake, evidently, I’m kidding. Scott, we’re both stupid. I didn’t think there was a shot in hell he took this deal. I cannot believe it. I really I still think it was the right move. I’m not gonna Jake with the CBA. They’re expecting a lockout at the following, you know, the conclusion of 2026. Gisham’s off a career year. There’s almost no reason for him to take this money. $22 million. Would you rather make $22 million in year one or would you rather make roughly 16 to 17 million and then extend that out 17 million, $18 million for the next five seasons? I can’t believe he didn’t go with the security, but he’s still a very rich man. He still made a decision that made him rich. So, yeah, Scott didn’t love it. Said they gambled any flexibility they had for a fourth round pick. I think this is fair. I think what Scott says is fair. Jake, we can absolutely be wrong about this. If your flexibility is now screwed because you went after a fourth round pick, technically it would be a mistake given how you move. So Scott, we do appreciate the five and I can’t disagree with you. Says Cashman is an ass clown. That’s what Scott had to say. So Scott, we do appreciate that. And PeaceGeek 1965 with the five. Thank you for that. We really appreciate the support. Says maybe a wacky idea. Is it out of the realm of possibility to include Gisham and or McMahon in a trade? So, I read earlier, I’m not sure if you caught it, but due to trade restrictions, Gisham cannot be traded till June 15th. So, if you guys have any aspirations that they’re flipping this 22 million to somebody else, it’s not happening. Not according to the rules. So, and he also has a no trade. So, you have to imagine if he took that qualifying offer. He really likes playing for the Yankees. As Jake mentioned, Aaron Judge loves playing with him as well. Who could blame him? He was a good teammate. So, it’s trading him is not going to be an option. Juan Gonzalez with the two. Thank you for the support. And Jersey girl, our final super chat with the five. Thank you for the support. Says trash man is going to put together another Frankenstein team. It’s not off to a good start. So, I’m still hopeful for Ami. I really like the fit. I like the build, you know, the makeup. Um, just what he is mentally. Jake, I’m on the train. You You finally got me on the Amay train. Did you see what he had to say about Yamamoto, by the way? It was I did not epic. So they asked him and said, “Do you think Yamamoto, what did you think about Yamamoto being potentially the greatest pitcher in the game today?” And they weren’t talking about necessarily Sai Young races. They were talking about pitching in the clutch, right? Pitching when your team needs you. And Yamamoto did it all. He was best player on the field. Unbelievable. Having said that, they asked Amaya about what he thought about Yamamoto. And obviously he has a ton of respect for him and he mentioned that. But Amay said it’s no time essentially speaking it’s no time to admire him. I want to be the best pitcher in the world just like he does. That is an absolute dog. Now that doesn’t mean you’re going to deliver and become right. You could be Kiaawa and be talking this way, but you have to love that mentality. Give people respect, but don’t yield that they’re better than you. I’m coming here to America and to join Major League Baseball and be better than him. I absolutely love that. And what that tells me, it opens up the door that I think you cracked earlier, Jake. You mentioned that what’s coming out of his mouth. Seems it seems like Yamamoto was coming to Major League Baseball to join something, whereas Amay was coming to establish something. And I really believe that that could be the case here this off seasonason. Do we get him? I have no idea what we’re gonna offer. We’ll find out. But got to love what could be not necessarily I guess how this started. Yeah. Tatsuya Ami um entered the MLB posting system. I don’t know if we already said that he he can sign through January second. So that that’s the deadline. Can’t wait. He unless he signs with the Dodgers then it’s miserable. It’s weird because obviously Yeah. Obviously, you and I wanted Yamamoto like so bad. Yes, of course. But there’s a there’s a certain hype about Imi that I haven’t had for anybody other than Yamamoto. I love Japanese prospects. Like, I think people know that now. And I love the idea of tapping into the Japanese market again for the Yankees. Uh it’s only ever worked out aside from Ka Gawa, which was not a good signing when they made it. So, it’s not like he didn’t have good numbers. He also doesn’t have a name of a pitcher that sounds good. So, but you hear Yamamoto, you’re like, “That guy is dominant.” You just know. Tatsuya, he’s going to ball out. I’m telling you, he’s going to be very good. And that’s somebody that makes the Yankees have potentially the best rotation in baseball. I mean, you’re talking about if Garrett Cole can get back to where he was or even a little bit to where he was. You have him, you have Max Freed, you have Carlos Rodon, you have Cam Schlitler, then you have Emi also by adding another guy as we’ve explained Luis Heel, Will Warren, Clark Schmidt, all these guys become OP as well as ERC. Um, all these guys become trade options. So, it it does really strengthen your war chest, and I think they need to get this done. Gary, this this is the guy I want. I’ve already waved the white flag. I know they’re not going to end up getting uh Scooble. He’s going to go back to Detroit. He clearly likes it there. That doesn’t sound like a guy that’s trying to go play anywhere else. He just really likes it there. Um, Paul Ske is not getting traded. So, who is it? I mean, it’s really I Sandy Alcantara. Probably Joe Ryan. Joe Ryan, Freddy Peralta, and uh, in-house. Those are your options. And I inhouse never sounds good when you’re talking about exiting in the division series. So, I don’t want obviously any of us to be upset when you read comments of people saying in-house. Oh my god. We got Marian saying to take Sandy, please. Take Sandy, please. I believe he’s in the final year of his deal. I mean, Sy’s a talented player. Obviously, a ton of ups and downs. He had a horrible start to the season. But I’m here to tell you guys right now, if Trent Gisham accepts the qualifying offer and our moves to come are dealing for Sandy Alcantara and signing some depth pieces like Rosario, it’s not a good offseason. So, let’s let them complete it. Let’s get let them get further along in the winter and we’ll we’ll sort of see how this is bouncing down the road. We’ll know very quickly if the Yankees are serious about making this team a contender. We’ll know. Our guy Ronnie coming in, member for 13 months. Shout out to Ronnie. 22 million. We appreciate that, man. For Trish. Is that what we’re calling him now? Trish. No, G. The G and the T are right by each other, so it was just a misspelling. Uh 17 for McMahon and his 200 average. Hey Jake, go Rams. Yeah, I mean, at least McMahon performed in the postseason, so we have to be happy about that. and you can’t really write players off because they had a bad postseason because obviously Aaron Judge was absolutely dismal in October and then he got here to 2025. Jake, we both predicted that he was going to go nuclear and he did. He went off. But having said that, there were a lot of people soured on Aaron Judge because he couldn’t perform in October. I want to give Trent Gisham not the same grace as Aaron Judge because obviously he’s not Aaron Judge and he never will be. But having said that, I think people are more upset about the fit and just the style of how he plays. It’s going to be if it goes well, it’s going to be 30 to 35 homers, 230, solid defense. That’s not really what the Yankees are looking for because you know who that sounds a lot like his projected numbers. It sounds a lot like Spencer Jones. It sounds a lot like what he’s projecting to be, which is a power guy who strikes out a lot, who is going to struggle with the splitter. I guess you never know, but that I think is the frustration. And Alex, got to love that his name is just something absolutely ridiculous. A mod of ours, thank you for the two says, “When are they posting Ashika Island, Gary?” Absolutely no one will get that. And I’m glad they don’t because otherwise we’d just be cancelled. And Miguel is back with the five says, “So Max, okay, so Max coverage said Jeff.” Oh, Passan reported that the Yankees are going to pursue Scubble this off season. Is this true? I would imagine it is, but the Yankees won’t be the only team pursuing him. I I also saw the Boston Red Sox would be interested. There are plenty of other teams, and the Mets technically have I believe they said that the Mets are most primed to make that deal. Obviously, the Mets had a ton of Red. Can you imagine putting him and Crochet in the same rotation? No, no, no. I No, I couldn’t. And you take the two guys get runner up in the Sai Young. You have to be the type of team that you just have to understand as a fan. You don’t acquire player players via trade because you want them badly. You acquire players via trade because you put together the top package, right? Something’s that’s most attractive to the team that’s trading that player. If the Detroit Tigers, let’s be honest here, if they put TKO honestly on the market, would the New York Yankees be the most aggressive team and get it done? The answer is no. So having said that and again they can prove me wrong but they’ve never proven me wrong. Not never never not you either Jake. So let’s just imagine that if Terrick Schubble became available that dream is probably dead. He probably ends up with the Mets. He probably ends up with the Red Sox. And that’s just because of how they the nature of how they do their business in the past. So yeah, Miguel I would assume technically those reports are true. The issue is we’re probably not getting that player as much as we would really like him. So, thank you for the support. And Jose, thank you for the two. Says the Yankees scared to spend money. It’s not in our DNA of titles. Well, I guess we weren’t too scared. We offered Trent Gisham $22 million over a fourth round pick and got bit in the ass. So, seems like we’re not afraid. It seems like we’re afraid of that long-term contract again. It seems like we’re a little afraid of that. You know, it’s really frustrating because having covered the NFL as long as I have, I just saw there was a uh hypothetical someone asked me, “Would you trade for Justin Jefferson in the off season?” Mhm. And I honestly would not trade for Justin Jefferson in the offseason. People don’t understand why because I’m not trying to pay him 50 million and then have to pay Puk and Aua 50 million and now all of a sudden I have 100 million that I’m paying to two wide receivers and I don’t have the salary cap for that. In baseball there isn’t a salary cap. You can do that. What do you mean? Hal has one. Yeah. Well, he’s a boatard. But anyway, I We very clearly have a salary cap. We very clearly have a salary cap over our heads. Yes. But you see you see my my issue with No, I do. I completely understand. Yeah. I I can’t stand the idea because I literally have to sit there and be like, “Yeah, I don’t want Justin Jefferson.” They’re like, “Why the hell don’t you want him?” It’s like cuz I don’t want to pay him, you know, $50 million a year. They’re making it about the player and not what comes with the player. But baseball, it’s not about the contract. It’s about the player. Just go and get him. Just get him. Like, if you’re the Red Sox and you have a legitimate chance to get Scoo with Crochet and then you have Beao, you have to be thinking, we’re in the driver’s seat. The Yankees are never beating us in a three-game series. We’re going to have Roman Anthony for an entire 2026. Roman, the New York Yankees potentially, not set in stone, potentially would lose Cody Bellinger. They’re going to they if they lose Cody Ballinger, they’re more than likely going young. It’s going to be between Boston and Toronto for the division. That’s how you have to look at that. If you were able to get a Ter Scubble, that’s how much it changes. And remember, Cody Bellinger in large part was the reason we were so much better against left-handed pitching this year. He had reverse splits. without Cody Bellinger. Remember how we struggled the year prior in 2024 against lefty pitching? I guess outside of Sodto and Judge. Yeah, that would be somewhat back. So, I want you guys to understand just the ramifications of what’s at stake here. Um, again, Jose, thank you for the super. We have I believe Yeah, we’ve gotten caught up. So, well done. Jake, is there anything else that we need to dabble in? Oh, by the way, I don’t know if we discussed this part because this is not related to Trent Gersham. is that Ryan Yarborough has been brought back to the New York Yankees, has signed a one-year contract with the team. And I know if you look at his stats, it it’s decent, right? He’s a band-aid to provide some level of insurance for a rotation if no one’s healthy. 2.5 million as you explained, $2.5 million. It was essentially free in baseball terms. He’s a band-aid. Giving us some insurance for Rodon, who’s not expected not to be ready for the start of spring training in the regular season. Same with Garrick Cole. They’re expecting those guys to be contributors this year, but not ready on opening day. So, Ryan Yarbor is going to be starting maybe one or two of those games. The Yankees still need more in their rotation. I think they know that, but wanted to report that news that when you see Ryan Yarbor back in pinch drives, don’t say where where the hell did he come from. At least we brought it up. Yeah. No, absolutely. Uh let’s get to voicemails and let’s get out of here. Yeah, it’s it’s Arc Raiders time. We’re back. Yes, very much. What’s up, Gary and Jake? Ninja here. Um yeah, so we’ve all heard the news. Um the um organization and Brian Cashman have decided they want Gisham. Now, did we want Gisham? Maybe when he when maybe when Juan Soda left we did. But overall, I think I feel like Gisham is like, how do I put this? Gisham is like that girl who you’re going to be okay settling with, but they’re not the one that you really want. And it feels like we’ve settled before we’ve even gone after any of the better options. Ninja called Gish Fun. I don’t really like that. So, what I’m hoping is that we’re still going to go after Tucker and Bellinger. But if next thing we if next thing we hear is that the Yankees are pursuing like Schwarber or something, that means they’ve settled and that means it’s back. I’m not I’m not that frustrated because you remember we had Trent Gisham permanently on the bench in 2024. So, it could just be a situation like that again. But who knows? Literally, anything can happen at this point. It is disappointing knowing that he could be on our starting lineup and we’ve just thrown away $22 million. Um, did he deserve a calling a qualifying offer? I would still argue no, but we’ll see. I I guess this is more of a prove it prove yourself type of thing. So, Fire Baboon, and I will be saying this for every postseason stream. Fire Cashman. I It’s so weird to me cuz I don’t like Cashman, but I can’t help but feel like what is this guy supposed to do? They took the qualifying offer and it’s like if Hal doesn’t let him spend, he can’t spend. I would probably say the issue that and I brought this up before we went live, Jake. Mhm. I would say the problem is really how we got here and the Yankees really had allocation. No, right this second. Now it’s a situation where it’s like, hey, how there’s nothing really I can do to fix this other than to invest, you know, allocate funds towards the problem. There’s a problem. And Trent Gisham is a solid player. I’m going to call him solid. That’s the word choice I’m going to use. He’s a solid player. He’s not a player that you game plan for. The Toronto Blue Jays don’t come to the field and be like, “What are we going to do with Gisham who’s leading off?” You don’t you don’t think about Trent Gisham. If Trent Gisham’s in a lineup in the postseason, he should be hitting sixth. Okay, seventh. That’s where he should be. He’s not a bad player. He’s simply not. I think he had a horrible monstrosity in October. He’s not a bad baseball player. Good defender. He’s got pop. He’s somewhat of a smart player. He’s got a high IQ, I guess you can say. But to lead off for a team that says they want to win a championship, he’s not that. That I can tell you. So, I don’t know. I think sort of what you’re bringing up is fair. What Brian Kman did, we both agreed there’s no way he’s going to take this. He very clearly just did and now we have to react. So, I would say the Kyle Tucker dream is probably just dead on arrival. I know we didn’t expect it to happen now, but now it’s really dead and it’s now sort of up to how far past the $300 million mark do they go? How do they go about acquiring talent without I guess blitzing their payroll, which we don’t have a problem with them doing. We just don’t expect them to do it. So, yeah. Um I believe you said Mr. Buzz Lightyear Kyle Malay was next. Drop it on us. And by the way, you asked um earlier what my dad thought and uh he’s basically like can’t afford to lose belly. We need more belly, not less, lol. So, that’s where he’s at. I mean, Bellinger is one of my all-time favorite players, and he’s only been a Yankee for a year. And my my dad, my mom would say the same watching every game like Bellinger, it’s like the Bregman effect, you know, you get two guys like that and now all of a sudden they can pick up where other guys are literally leaving off. Um so yeah, this would have been a good offse this would have been a good offseason by the way to get um Bregman if we didn’t have Ryan McMahon. It actually would have been a fit 100%. Which anyway, here’s Buzz Lightyear. Hey guys, Kyle Mlay here. Trent Gisham actually accepted that offer. I mean, I don’t blame him. It’s 22 million, but now the Yankees are at $282 million already for their payroll for next year. And it is they want to stay under 300 million, I guess. But that’s not going to be possible if you guys sign some other free agents and trade for free agents and stuff like that. Like I think the Yankees are for next year. But yeah, tell me what you think and hopefully the Yankees um surprise us, but I’m not getting my hopes up. I’ll let them surprise me cuz I don’t feel good about this off season. All right, guys. You have a good night and have a good show. Go Yankee. Thank you for that, Jake. Yeah, let’s let’s let them surprise us. Don’t have any positive expectations. I don’t want us all to just be sour pusses over the off season the whole time. Like we need to enjoy some of this, but there’s no denying this is a bad start. Let’s see if they shock us. There’s no way that, as you said, there’s no way they go under 300 million. You mean to tell me you lost a a reliever who actually you needed even though he wasn’t that great in in Devin Williams? We all expect them to need more help in their bullpen. We expect that, right? We probably expect multiple arms to join this bullpen and we still need bats. We They said they were going to prioritize bringing at least an arm in here. I know Ryan Yarborough really wasn’t part of that build. Let’s let them shock us. Have no expectations. They don’t deserve any positive expectations. Let’s just wait and see what they do. Let’s wait and react. I think that’s fair for us to do. Rough start. Lot of runway left. A lot of ball game left. Let’s Let’s see. I want to see the Yankees pick up Christopher Morurell. That’s the last thing I’ll say. He was DFA. Yeah, he was DFAD today by the Rays. I think he’s a talent. Maybe it didn’t work out. Pick a flyer on him, you know. So, okay. He’s young. He’s not just like a Yeah, I really like this 35year-old cuz I used to be really good with him in MLB the show. No, it’s not like that. No, Christopher Morurell is uh he’s 26. He’ll be 27 in June and he’s a former top prospect and you know he’s coming off a bit of a down year. I mean he hasn’t really been great but I feel like he’s got some talent and I’d like to see you know if a change of senior could be there because you go back to Chicago he was part of that deal to get Isach Paredes. So yeah that’s right he was. So yeah, and he was a huge part of that deal. Like that’s why they were like, “Oh, 26 home runs, 821 OPS, and he’s just kind of been down in the dump since.” So maybe he just needs to get out of Toronto or excuse me, Tampa. Well, we fixed Trent Gisham, right? I guess I guess, right? Well, get plays third base. So, we’ll see. Let’s have them drop, by the way, Jake, in the comment section. I think I’ve got it. I know this is not a great start. What would you do to fix this? I Where does the payroll land, right? Who do the Yankees sign? Is the priority still Cody Bellinger? Do the Yankees need to make trades? Is Quan now a must, a contact first bat now that we have a really a power first bat? Just agreed to a one-year qualifying offer that we didn’t expect to happen. Is contact even more important now than it even was two weeks ago? Drop in the comment section what you would do to clean up this mess, which is it’s not terrible, but it’s still somewhat a mess. Drop in the comment section what you would do, the talent. Would you unload some money and go get somebody else? Put that in the comment section. We can’t wait to read those and comment back. Um, be sure to subscribe to Yankees Unloaded. We’ll be covering all these major events, qualifying offers, trades, the winner meetings. We’re going to be covering it all. Um, like the video, Jake. 1. Brian Trashman continues to SCREW OVER Yankee fans. Overpaying for players Yankees DO NOT NEED! Hal, clearly, is TOO CHEAP to go after superstars! Not only that, but young guys like JDOM and SJ have no chance to play! Typical Cashman BS! Hal should SLAP that BALD HEADED BASTARD in the face!

  2. i am hoping Trent Grisham hits .128 AVG, .489 OPS and makes 20 errors in CF. Cashman is such an arrogant jack a**. All of this risk for a 4th round pick. This could have been intentional to self-sabotage the budget to get under the luxury tax. this organization is putrid. Bellinger isnt signing here. This move capped off the off season. Minor deals maybe a trade involving one of the young OFs…this team will be lucky to finish 3rd in the AL East next year.

  3. The Yankees basically just played Russian Roulette with their offseason and just lost big. They gambled with a qualifying offer for a mediocre player in the hopes he would not accept and the Yankees would receive a draft pick. That is a high risk low reward gamble which demonstrates the incompetence of Yankee management. Pathetic.

  4. The Yankees started 2025 with NO THIRD BASEMAN to stay under $300 million. You think they won't stay under that figure in 2026 just because it doesn't make any sense? I hope you're right.

  5. This guys got to go we need 3 elite players for the lineup we can’t bring back all this same players, the only one who can comeback is Cody everybody else got to go

  6. Okay, this will probably NEVER happen, but there is a way to make this work if they dump Stanton::
    1B-Bellinger
    2B-Chisum, Jr
    SS-Caballero
    3B-McMahon
    LF-Grisham
    CF-Jones
    RF-Judge
    C-Rice
    DH-Dominguez

  7. The implications of this will be determined by how cheap they decide to be. If they go out and get imai and ocamoto idk how to spell their names. Also sign belinger nobody would complain. Hopefully judge saying he wants beli, Grisham back and that he would trade his awards in for a ring maybe with the lockout looming where they will go all in for once

  8. I would really like to see Judge take Jones under his wing. He seems to have a similar level of talent that a young Judge had. Judge then STUDIED baseball a LOT to become better and better even as his body ages. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting another Judge. Guys with that body and talent are rare, but even among them, few become anything close to what Judge is. He's the best right handed hitter of all time and a good fielder. But if Jones can learn from Judge to get as close to that level as he's capable of being faster than Judge did, he may be incredibly valuable.

  9. I know Dodgers has a big foothold in the Japanese market bcoz of Ohtani but I think they do not need Imai. They have alot of SPs back from the IL but we never know 🤷

  10. Obviously the Yankees analytics think Grisham is likely to stay at this level and his defense will improve greatly without the hamstring issue. Trent is also extremely confident. He thinks he's getting the most money and will do even better as THE every day center fielder. This also means Bellinger isn't the center fielder.

  11. I’m not stressing it because there’s simply no way they stay under 300 mil. That was posturing.

If they do they’ll actually deserve the cheap label I don’t think they do up to this point

  12. Don't change plans. Trade Jones and a low pitching prospect for Kwan. Resign Bellinger. Kwan, Bellinger and Judge as your starting outfield with Grisham as the way overpaid 4th. Get deep in the Japanese market, sell Hal on this but telling him it will make him money. Go after Okamoto and Imai. Trade McMahon with a prospect and maybe eat some money as well. Last thing I'd honestly try is get into the Brenden Donovan business. You could move Jazz pretty easily after last season and they aren't going to sign him. He'd bring a nice haul for them as well.

  13. Not what I would have done, but the sky is not falling. You have to think that he just loves being on this Yankee's team! That's not a bad thing. He was hurt at the end of the year. Who knows?

  14. Yankees should never have offered Grisham the option. Now they are stuck and he'll clog the outfield and the active roster. For those of you who didn't like the 16 mil for McMahon you won't like the 22 mil staring at you in the face for Grisham who won't do as well in 2026.

  15. This move doesn’t doom the Yanks, but to me the move looks strange… And the $300M that the Yankees want to stay under is FN ODD!!! The Yankees are not winning a World Series while the Dodgers Mets and a few other teams are spending money to try to win a championship…. This team’s dumb spending is FN EMBARRASSING!!!! Cashman is an idiot!! And Hal is an idiot for letting this crap go on!!!

  16. I disagree with a lot on this take, because he technically is playing a prove it deal so he will be dialed in at the plate. He will want a longer term deal if he puts up another good season.

  17. You guys are
Overthinking this… he has made approx 18 mil in his CAREER! This was a bus decision. He was probably going to get 10 -12 mil per year for 3 years . Get 22 for one year? Sign me up !

  18. If Yankees get Bellinger now they be over 300 mil and still need to add two bullpen arms and SP. I say now they have to skip on Bellinger and trade for Acuna Tatis Rooker or Kwan. Now trade McManon go get Okamoto for 3B. Do we really want to over pay for Bellinger then now thats it and we have the same offense is last year and are payroll is gonna be higher. Poor money management by Yankees. Trades may be the only way to save this offseason moving money around. Trade Gil go get Imai unless Cashman will use Yarbro for 5th starter until Cole and Rodon get healthy.
