Slo-mo it, if you can’t get a sense of what happens
1) Rantanen comes into the boards at an insane speed. No way he is breaking before the boards in a safe and certain way
2) Rantanen **himself** kicks his left skate into Scott Mayfield’s left skate
3) This action by him causes him slightly to lose balance.
4) Then Rantanen kicks his own left skate into Mayfield’s right skate, jamming it next to it
5) Then he loses even more of his balance, and jams a crosscheck into Romanov’s back
Multiple people have taken a screenshot of this contact (Rantanen’s left skate vs Mayfield’s right skate), and pretended that “Mayfield tripped him”. In reality, Rantanen himself kicked his skate into Mayfiel’s skate

This was the 3rd serious injury that Rantanen has caused opposing players within a single year. He has also tried to brake one guys knee when wrestling on the ice (did not succeed in it)
I don’t know, I see Mayfield’s stick around Mikko’s midsection. They definitely made contact before Romanov got hit.
I wanted blood last night, but looking at it now I think it’s more likely than not an accident.
Whatever, Fuck Dallas
Mayfield is running interference which is what your taught to do when your 10 years old that’s perfectly normal. Their skates do click which again happens often. Dallas fans are are trying to say rantanen extended his arms to protect himself which is complete bullshit and we all know it. I’ve been tripped 100s of times on the ice never have i crossed checked to save myself. Rantanen lost his ice there and didn’t know how far he was from the boards and he panicked. It was a 5min which was the right call and as for the suspension along as roy isn’t suspended I don’t really care. He better be in the lineup in a few months
Either way, he actually barely hit Romanov. Doesn’t seem hard enough for him to to have left his feet and dove into the boards the way he did.
THANK YOU. And you said all of this so much better than I could’ve. He was absolutely not tripped and I’ve been arguing with people about that in the trenches.
I’m a Ranger fan – that is a freaking dirty play and it has nothing to do with Mayfield. Mayfield barely touches him. Rantanen deliberately pushes Romanov into the boards long after Mayfield brushes into him. The reaction on the NHL and Stars subs is pitiful. Total hivemind, no one can think for themselves, it’s all Mayfield’s doing for touching Rantanen or you’ll even see how it’s Romanov’s fault for existing. Hockey players don’t usually hit guys in that position because they know what it causes. If that was an accident you would see it often, instead you can watch years of hockey and not see horrible boarding like that because Rantanen knew what he was doing and decided to do it. The game situation also suggests he did it intentionally – his team was about to lose and he took out frustration. I hope Rantanen gets what he deserves.
Dallas plays a dirty game against us. They are my least favorite team, even more so than the Rangers.
Lot’s of coping going on around here. Mikko was coming in with crazy speed with guys bumping at each other. Bad outcome of a bad situation. Not malicious. Chill
Yeah, it’s absolutely bonkers to me that people can look at this and not see clear intent on Rantanen’s part. Maybe it was just typical end of game roughness, and he didn’t mean to hurt him. I don’t know. The only guy who can answer that question is Rantanen himself. But regardless of intent to injure or not, this should be a suspension 100/100 times. Yet another failure by the league to protect their players.
Mayfield didn’t intentionally trip Rantanen, but he 100% got in his way and caused him to lose his balance. As for everything after that, you can debate it till the end of time
Do I think Mikko Rantanen intended to throw a hit like this with 30 seconds left in a one goal game? No. Should dangerous hits like this, regardless of their intentions or circumstances, be subject to supplemental discipline? Of course.
The refs really lost control of this one in the third period, especially at the end. Both teams were hacking and interfering with each other in the final minute or two with no calls made (because they had gotten a bunch wrong a few minutes earlier and were trying to make up for it). In my eyes that pace of play at the end directly resulted in this happening. Brutal night for the stripes.
Rantanen came up from behind Mayfield but don’t worry Mayfield was the one who pushed him into Romanov. Smh. They make contact it’s clear as day that Rantanen was going to make the hit as he did regardless of falling or not
Don’t tell that to the rHockey mob!
Sooooo dirty. Malicious 100%
You keep talking about other Rantanen caused accidents but what ARE they?? And when people have asked for proof you’ve ignored it
I don’t think Rantanen was planning to do it. It wasn’t outright malicious. But it was extremely reckless.
Canes fan here, can’t believe im here agreeing with isles fans, but yeah, dirty hit.
