My prediction: Kirk plays like ass next week and loses to the Saints. Then he goes complete gonzo the rest of the season, wins 5 games or so, and ends up with another fat contract from some other suckers. Kirk gonna find a way to get paid.
You guys are being clowns by being upset about this quote. I suggest you actually watch the press conference. Kirk spent a lot of time in it praising Michael Penix and saying how hard it was for everybody when Penix went down but that he’s resiliant and has a lot of football ahead of him. Then he went on to say he’s excited about the opportunity to start again and doesn’t take it for granted – he knows he has to earn it and that’s how he approaches it by having a maniacal approach to practice. And when asked about his health, he looked at Led and joked with him by saying Led probably doesn’t believe him but he feels good. Then Kirk said he’d never tell the media if he wasn’t. Everyone laughed. It was a lighthearted moment of humor and everyone in the room was laughing.
By the way, if you want to think that Kirk hides his injuries, Raheem said in his press conference today that Michael Penix Jr. was hurt the week of the Dolphins game a few weeks ago but still tried to take all the snaps up until the day before the game, implying that MPJ didn’t want to give Kirk a chance. But Raheem made the call the day before the game that MPJ couldn’t go and decided to start Kirk. So MPJ could have ‘been honest’ about how bad his injury was but instead decided to keep taking all the snaps, forcing Kirk to start the Dolphins game on little preparation. Yall made at MPJ too?
It’s disturbing that some of you don’t know the difference between what a QB tells the coach / medical staff vs. what the QB tells the media.
Players are under no obligation to spill their full health and medical status to the media during press conferences. Players tell coach and medical staff. From there the team releases injury reports.
But no player is obligated to tell The Athletic or the local beat writer explicit details about their health. And why would you? The opposing teams would then know that information too.
In-house communications are different from public communications. It’s shocking that some of you don’t know this.
