Turning down more money / playing football on Sundays for other contenders….Vrable is building a real culture

  1. I’m confused I thought if someone tries to take a practice squad player you are allowed to match and activate to the 53 without players choice? Guess I was wrong

  2. This team really feels straight out of a movie. How can you not root for this guy, and honestly… all the guys on this team. This year is something special, regardless of outcome.

  3. I wouldn’t necessarily call this “turning down more money”. I’d say it’s a player evaluating what is best for his long term career, and if that’s here, then awesome. But, I don’t begrudge any pro athlete in any sport taking the most money. It’s a dangerous high-risk career.

At some point, if you’re a superstar, I get that there are considerations other than pure money, but for young players or fringe players, I’m cool with them chasing financial security. Teams cut players ruthlessly, which is fair, so players should have the same mindset. It’s pro sports, and there’s money involved.

  4. Love that he’s taking accountability for ending up on the practice squad but worked his ass off to get this shot. Hope he crushes it!

  5. Buffalo must be sweating these days. Since Brady left they likely expected it would be a bit longer before we got back in contention. Not saying we’re Super Bowl bound (we are), but it’s nice to already have a season with more than 4 wins.

  6. And they’ll cut you in a heartbeat. Can’t afford, literally, to show loyalty at his level. After you’ve banked a few million? Sure.

  7. I hope it works out for this guy but this may be something he seriously regrets in the future.

Read an article yesterday about when Tebow got offered $1 million to do an advertisement, it would have taken him one day. He asked Belichick if it was okay as he didn’t want to be a distraction to the team. Belichick told him not to do it, and then cut Tebow a few days later. Here’s an article that has more detail: [Link](https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/tim-tebow-turned-down-a-1-million-paycheck-to-impress-bill-belichick/)

Glad that the Patriots have a culture where guys want to stick around but a practice squad player should take any opportunity to get signed by any team that wants to pay them.
