You would think that having an offensive weapon like Kon would elevate the play of Lamelo and company but it’s weird that Kon’s success commies at the expense of Lamelo’s. On one hand you can blame coaching as it is the coaches job to put players in a position to contribute. On the other hand if that player is not executing you have to place the blame on the player. This isn’t about 1 bad game. This is about a player who’s come to have more net negatives than positives. Lamelo is a superb passer, good ball handler, and scorer. But he’s not consistent in any of those things. He’s also not a leader. He’s NOT a good defender. He does NOT posses the basketball IQ or prowess of a premium point guard. He does NOT stay healthy and these things are only highlighted by the play of the rookies most notably Kon. People are clamoring that we need to give this time and Lamelo is dealing with an injury, etc. This has been the narrative for nearly 60 percent of his time here. All of the potential is there but the kid wants to play his brand of basketball and the thing is that he’s good at it. It’s entertaining it’s fun to watch at times but it’s not winning basketball and every team in the NBA and everyone who watches the NBA knows it. If this team is serious about winning basketball and being competitive they’d offload him and NOT build around Kon but build a team comprised of players like Kon and the other rookies who play this game the way it’s meant to be played and that is with tenacity and resolve. Both Lamelo and Miles have to for this to be a true culture shift.

  1. Sure, trading Lamelo at his lowest value and an important reason why Kon is getting his easy looks is easy team building. At the very least, I’d like for him to stay this season to develop Kon’s game

  2. What are you even talking about man

Kon’s success doesn’t come at the expense of LaMelo’s one bit. If anything they are actually synergistic players, Kon’s off ball actions work really well with Melo’s playmaking and they both create space for each other.

Kon is amazing off-ball, he’s elite at receiving on the catch and making a play. Where he struggles is trying to create advantages 1v1, he’s not a Luka or Harden type. You don’t want him with the ball in his hands as much as you want him being the cutter or screener off the ball.

He absolutely helps LaMelo play better and vice versa. Melo is just independently playing badly and missing shots. Don’t blame Kon, their chemistry is very obvious at this point

  3. You can tear apart Lamelo for availability without question, but the ability is literally exactly what this offense needs and I’m pretty sure Kon’s best net rating/shooting splits come with both of them on the court.

No one else but Lamelo on this team has that level of feel for basketball other than Kon. The fact that the talent is there to be a high-end PG for the high pace/energy offense this team wants to deploy under Lee is exactly why you can’t trade him **yet**, I totally get trading #0 but the talent is really hard to replace in Lamelo’s case.

  4. You need both of them to be good how are people reacting this much to one bd game. The main reason we lost was kalkbrenner getting folded by any stretch 5, letting the opposing team get unlimited good looks. We started mounting a small comeback when kalk got replaced by moussa diabate

  5. I guarantee you if they move off LaMelo/Bridges and build this around Kon/Miller we will start seeing winning results.

Kon and Miller play the right way. They not trying to make highlights,  they not trying to celebrate after every basket.

Do the right thing build around Kon/Miller.🙏

  6. Kon performs much much better with Melo on the court. It isnt even a question, look at the numbers. Silly take

  7. how did you manage to make one of the worst takes in CHARLOTTE HORNETS subreddit history??!!???? that is really saying something

  8. It’s was just a really awful performance from Lamelo tonight. Like really really really bad. But I’ve seen him do incredible things. He has to be a leader out there even if he’s having an awful shooting night.
