  1. It’s about the Giants moving out of SF

Are they going to stay, move to San Jose, Denver was looking (they got the Rockies)…

I believe the “Sun was setting on the Giants” hence the ~~red~~ orange sun in the background

  2. The words ‘downtown stadium’ would imply it was made before the move to PAC Bell. But if that’s the case I would think one of the other signs would say St. Petersburg FL 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. I think it was when Bob Lurie owned the Giants…. Candlestick was old and really not holding up…. trying to get some help with a downtown stadium and threatening to leave to cities on the sign (kinda wondering why St. Pete wasn’t on there). Lurie was forced to sell to Bay Area ownership (enter Harmon Burns) and a deal for PacBell Park.

I think this is broadly right, but hoping to hear others with better input, memory

  4. It’s gotta be from the time when the Giants almost moved in the early 1990s (wasn’t St. Petersburg the presumed destination?)

  5. Looks to be from the late 80s or very early 90s given both the jersey wordmark and references to relocation/stadium proposals from around that time.

  6. Uniform is ’83-’94. Lurie was trying to sell (ultimately to Magowan in 92, saving a sale to St. Petersburg).

“Downtown” might have referred to a potential 7th & Townsend site that had been potentially identified in ’87 to build a stadium that would have used public funds. Voters defeated that.

So the shirt is probably around ’85/’86, before that site defeated by voters.

  7. As others have mentioned, I’m confused as to why St. Petersburg isn’t named. That was the landing spot for the Giants before the new ownership group came in at the last minute. This must have been very early on in relocation discussions.

  8. Kinda looks like Krukow or Dravecky. And believe it or not there was a time when the Giants future in SF was uncertain.

  9. Not sure, but after reading all these knowledgeable posts OP, you might not love the shirt anymore, or not as much… it was a sad time, when they almost left town

  10. In the late 80s/early 90s Bob Lurie was desperate to get the Giants out of Candlestick Park, widely considered the worst stadium in baseball. He threw everything at the wall to see what would stick, first trying to get a new stadium in SF, but when that didn’t pan out he looked to relocate the team, with the closest call a move to Tampa Bay getting set up in ‘92, which was fortunately voted down by the other owners (and NOT because of Wally Haas’ deal to give the Giants the rights to San Jose, despite what *many* a salty A’s fan might try to tell you).

After the Tampa Bay move was shot down, Peter Magowan bought the team off Lurie and built Pac Bell Park. The shirt reflects many of the proposed destinations for our Giants.

  11. Looks like Kruk. Looks Will Clark. The glove is a right handed fielders glove. Clark is left handed ergo it’s Krukow. ( Of course it’s a cartoon so who da F knows ) Science!!! 🤣
