Paul Maurice, Panthers Postgame: Lightning Beats Florida in Sunrise
Well, coach, where did Tampa have the edge tonight in your mind? Uh, the final score, I think it was we they did a real good job blocking shots. We had 37 that never got to the net. That’s a bit of a challenge. Um, like their penalty kill. That was the highlight of the game. We did a real good job with that. Didn’t generate much five on five. Didn’t give up much, but you’re you’re hoping that you could do a little more with what you had. What were they doing that made it so challenging? Well, they got in the shot lanes pretty good and I think we rushed a bunch to the net, but uh I don’t know. It was a pretty flat even game. Yeah, the Titans at five on five. Was that just two play styles matching up? Both you guys pretty good. I I think both teams I didn’t find it be that physical a game. I I thought that maybe we beat it up a little more than they did. The puck wasn’t moving too clean and usually the both teams execute with it, but they win so that’s the way that goes. Gus Forsling not happy with the game. felt that you guys came out a little flat. Thought there you guys could have had a better one. Is that kind of consensus? Yeah, I I don’t I’m not going to beat them up. I didn’t I didn’t like the number of pucks we came up with on contested pucks. That would be the the place that we we need to get better at on the kill. Like you said, a bright spot tonight. You guys putting the work in there. What do you like about the kill? Oh, you know, it’s no different than your power play. It’s all confidence based and we went through a run having a tough stretch on our kill and it’s been good for the last four or five games. pretty aggressive. Everybody moving together, getting sticks on pucks, winning faceoffs, some blocks, but some really good clears. How’s Rodriguez? I know he came back, but obviously Yeah, he took a whole bunch in his mouth there with that high stick, but he’s fine. And speaking of the kill, you got to look at a couple different people on it. Uh you like what you saw? We’ve been Well, we’ve been running the four. We we we changed our pairings and put Lendell and Lucen back together. Uh and then Rodriguez and Reinard have been going it together. They’ve been doing a good job. And what’s left? for we’ll give Marie and you know whoever’s not in the penalty box at the time because we seem to have that happen a lot. But yeah, it’s good. I like the way it’s running and quite a tear for Marian day. Yeah, he’s a he’s a gamer and he gets, you know, a broken play off a face off, he can get a stick on it, make it get it off his stick real
