I don’t want him playing any games, not in an islanders uniform. The risk is too significant.
Would be awesome. Playing for your country is what these kids grow up dreaming about. There’s just as much injury risk playing against an NHL team as there is internationally.
As a non penguins fan what do you guys remember more? One of Sidney Crosby’s playoff goals? Or his Team Canada OT winner?

As he should be. The Olympics are supposed to be best on best. There are not 6 or 7 better Canadian defenseman than Matthew Schaefer right now. He should be on the team. It doesn’t always work that way, but it should. Just ask Bo Horvat in a couple of months, when he has better numbers than 4 or 5 guys that get picked over him.
He’s not making the roster. This is just click bait, and it worked.
Think it’s one spot between Harley, Schaefer and Bouchard. Harley is probably the favorite right now. One of them might be brought as the extra d tho. Just don’t see them taking two of those guys while Makar already is locked into PP1.
Would be a good learning experience imo
I assume this is coming from Friedman’s 32 Thoughts this morning, which essentially says that he is in competition to be the extra man on the roster who is unlikely to play unless there is an injury. Still an incredible accomplishment at this stage in his career.
After his first preseason game I told my son “this guy will be the best defenseman on Team Canada after Makar and maybe a Theodore” – and since then, he’s just played better and better against better teams and bigger minutes.
It’s incredibly obvious that he’s NOW a top 5 dman in the NHL – indisputable.
Anyone who’s watched him in any 3 game stretch, it’s a slap in the face wake-up moment. Special player. Forget his age. Special player.
