Report: Yankees, Williams discussed potential reunion

  1. I’m all for it tbh, the underlying numbers were good and he finished the season very strong

He’d be a great set up man to have again, him and Bednar would be a great duo to close out games

He’s a strong buy low bounce back candidate so why shouldn’t we benefit?

  2. Guess the pitching staff saw something interesting at the end. Mid season was rough but he was locked in the potseason

  3. Doubt it will happen. Think there’s a good chance he’ll have a rebound year, betted chance for that elsewhere. Think it’s likely that some other team will value him more highly than us.

  4. Considering what Rasiel Iglesias got for a year, wouldn’t be surprised to see a team give him something similar and the Yankees to pass

  5. They should try to sign him even at market rate.. otherwise I see him on another AL East team mowing the Yankees down in October :/

I think they also really need another lockdown lefty. The bullpen needs to be better this year.

  6. There couldn’t be more of a pairing that shouldn’t reunite than the Yanks and Devin

  7. We would be stupid not to bring him back. He had a rough start/first half of season but proved he could pitch in NY, that he is a very good RP and fought through his struggles and wants to be here. Why wouldn’t we? I think some of the people are funny not wanting him thinking there are a lot of options for talented RP’s and that it is easy coming to NYC.

  8. This feels so much like Rodon’s situation to me, and look at how good Rodon has been now for us after his first season was a dud.

I’d say take advantage of a buy low opportunity with him and have him be a 1-2 punch with Bednar.

  9. Williams was so hot and cold last year. There were parts of last season he was unhittable and other parts where teams hit him like a piñata. If he can figure it out he can be excellent.

  10. His stuff is filthy so he definitely has potential to be dominant again, just not sure if he can mentally handle it as a closer. Maybe he could be the setup man?

  11. I don’t imagine he will accept non-closer money and sign on as the Yankees 7th inning guy. The team should talk to anyone and everyone who gives NYY a chance to get better, but this doesn’t seem like a fit

  12. Figured it’s likely he’ll be back when I saw him with Judge at a Knicks game a few weeks ago. You don’t usually stick around a place you don’t want to be at.

  13. Devin as the 8th inning guy for Bednar once we found his rhythm was awesome. And a year of having understanding and getting comfortable in NYC…. I’m all for it.

  14. I see him as an Edwin Diaz type situation. Shit the bed when he first got here but once he got used to NY became a stud. I think keeping him is the right move

  15. Part of me says bring him back.  The other part of me is getting hardcore Javy Vazquez vibes.

  16. I agree he seemed to return to form late in the season. He’s also a bulwark against overuse of Bednar, which I sensed becoming an issue toward the end.
