Having a contest at work, that is sports themed. So they ask us to wear gear for our favorite teams on Thursdays. I’m in Salt Lake City, but I was on a zoom call with folks from our other offices, including Chicago. Someone on there immediately called out my hawks jersey told me that he loved it. Asked me which player I was wearing. I told him Ed Belfour. He looked kind of puzzled, and I told him that he was a goalie for the Blackhawks in the early 90s when I started to get into hockey.
He replied “ Oh, I wasn’t born yet, that’s probably why I don’t know who that is.”
So moral of the story, I am a fossil, and I love the Blackhawks!

Eddie the Eagle is 5th all-time in wins. This is just not a hockey fan. I know plenty of players way before my time.

Hawks fan since 1982, my guy was Tony Esposito. Been wearing my 35 sweater to games since the 2009 season or so. I feel your struggle!!

I remember when they traded him and started to dismantle that 90s team. Still breaks my heart, but watching him win with Dallas was awesome.
First off, super jealous as that’s a sick jersey.
Secondly, he was my favorite growing up and I followed him around the league and he’s the reason I love goalies to this day.
Thirdly, it’s WILD that he had no idea. Like… I get young fans, but if you’re an adult and pay ANY ATTENTION to the team you know who the famous HOFers are.
Pit Martin was my first favorite Blackhawk when I first got into hockey back around 1970. Faithfully wore my #7 Hawk sweater to grade school.
I love Belfour, but I don’t know the first thing about Murray Bannerman… so I get it.

This happens to all of us. I usually wear my #81 Hossa sweater around and I’ve had people ask who he is and when he played.
And now my knees hurt because the weather is changing.

Yeah most people especially unless they are 40+ years old and into hockey from a young age don’t know about Belfour, Amonte, Probert, Suter, Daze, Zhamnov, and even Roenick & Chelios maybe then too aside from the ambassador/heritage nights
