We are currently speed running towards bust territory here. Looking to join the likes of Derrick Williams, Wes Johnson, Jarrett Culver, etc.
There is really nothing that Dillingham does well on the court. He’s getting wide open jumpers too and just throwing up absolute bricks.
His play and lack of any improvement whatsoever is very disheartening because at this point he doesn’t even have any trade value

It’s been interesting that defenses are giving him the three point shot. They are giving him a step so he can’t get past them and daring him to shoot it.
I think they really need to just have him go down to the G-League for as many games as they can. Good chance that doesn’t help, but if he could get some positive reps maybe his confidence would come back some
Extremely disappointing, considering his strength was offense. I really think if he was playing with confidence his offense would be a lot better. But he seems to have lost it.
It’s not looking good. Send him down to the G league to get some confidence.
I kinda like the process right now ngl. He’s looking to pass first but can penetrate and get to spots too. Shots aren’t falling and short dude problems are real but he’s earning more minutes which tells me the coaches like what he’s doing too. I’m holding out longer

He needs more than just confidence too. His shot mechanics are mind bogglingly bad.
Point guards can take a few years to catch up to the speed of the nba game. Rob has a ton of talent and his speed is a game-changer. He’ll get better, why we gotta be so quick to say BUST? More like trust!
Unless he can figure out his jump shot quickly, its getting harder and harder to say he deserves minutes. One of the few strengths he had coming out of college has largely now been a weakness, tough to see things turning around at this point.
He needs to get stronger.
it’s interesting. before that draft, wolves fans and everyone else had low expectations for it. it was considered a weak draft. just look at the players drafted around rob.
but after we traded up, we all (me included) suddenly got delusional high expectations because, wow! we got a lottery pick!
i’m not saying he’s a bust, i just think he was set up to not meet expectations. people wanted him to be a top contributor day one based on where he was drafted, ignoring everything else.
It’s becoming harder and harder to deny it.
The eye test says bust. The metrics say bust. The lack of playing time and confidence from the coaches say bust.
People get emotionally invested in young players/prospects but this kid should invest in Mandarin lessons.
He is obviously being limited by his role and what he is asked to do. The coaches are asking him to play a certain way to help a winning team. Trust the process. Look at Jaden. That is the long term hope.
Once I seen that he hasn’t gained a single pound in the off-season I knew it would be more of the same, amazing you get NBA money and not invest in a nutritionist to help you out on weight.
I’m staying hopeful. But I will say, all his shots further than 15 feet look like half-court shot attempts mechanically. What happened?
The jumper right now is a disaster.
I can’t tell if it’s simply an evaporation of confidence (it feels that way) or if the mechanical issues are finally coming to roost, or if the team is trying to rebuild it somewhat and there are growing pains.
It’s also important to note that this could be statistical noise. A sample size of 15 three-point shots (and 67 shots total) is not big enough to draw sustainable conclusions. Last year he started the year by making 8 of his first 15 three-point shots. Through the end of January last year he shot 21-42 (or 50%) from three. That’s what’s been so weird. He started off his career shooting well after shooting well in college. This isn’t like a Jarrett Culver situation where the guy always had a broken jumper and it just stayed broken.
The sad thing is that he actually played well yesterday in other ways — probably his best defensive game, he had 4 rebounds, and he had some decent passes (Naz continues to miss every single open 3 Dillingham generates for him), but the jumper is so bad right now that it feels like it undoes all of the good.
He did a painful dribble and quick snap midrange shot last night that seemed to just make the shot …. harder on him … 🙁
I truly don’t know the hype around Rob 😅.
I was at the game yesterday and he just looks so small in person. They say he’s 6’3″ but he looks 5’11” and 110 lbs
Love Tim but an unprotected 1st round to trade up and get him is a big swing and a miss
It’s funny that he’s basically flipped his draft profile and play from last year.
Defense: will always be undersized but he can defend on the perimeter and I like his defensive awareness. Knows when to fill a gap and when to press his guy. Handsy, but I’d like to see him fight over screens better. Large improvement.
Playmaking: no longer a self creator but the passing is impressive and turnovers are going down with more play time. Brings an injection of pace and ball movement. Change of style but not strictly up or down.
Shooting: cratered, can’t hit open shots. Hesitant on when to shoot. Large downgrade.
The reason I find it funny is this sub is solely focus on the last section, despite the first section being the original Rob hateraid fuel source, the second section being a good adjustment to fit the team better and the third source being the sole discussion of most of this sub now that 1 and 2 aren’t negatives.
TLDR: there’s way more nuance than the anti Rob contingent is willing to discuss.
He’s just not good right now. His numbers are disappointing and they’re primarily coming with really bad opposing teams or 3rd stringers going against him. Just unplayable against real competition. His body language sucks too. He needs a change of scenery to try to get his career back on track, but we likely would struggle to get a 2nd rounder for him.
Dude couldn’t hit the side of a god damn barn last night. Throwing up bricks left and right.
To play the other side, I have been impressed with his court vision, steals, and ability to penetrate and make some tough finishes.
It’s obvious that his confidence has been a bit shaken, especially coming from Kentucky as the spark of the bench with an ultimate green light.
We saw it last year with Donte, it can take some time adjusting to a new role and finding your place. Rob is a much less experienced player and younger so I am affording him some more grace.
His speed/agility can’t be taught and is nba caliber, so I have faith his shot will start falling and he can be a nice piece on this team for the long term.
He’s still super young, toss him to the g league and pray.
Dilly Dally 🤷♂️ Aint shifty
Okay this might be a little outside the box, but is it possible that maybe we are judging the 20 year old, second year, 660 total NBA minutes played guy a little prematurely? I mean jimminy Christmas you guys. It seems like everyone on this Reddit is either saying he’s gonna be an all star or a massive bust. We just need the dude to average like 12 pts, 5 assists, 2-3 tov a game within the next 2-3 years. Hardly all star numbers. Also, I promise it is so much more fun rooting for a guy to get better than being pessimistic that he’ll never get over the hump. I get EXCITED when I see Rob on the court because it’s time for him to prove who he is.
He’s pesky AF on defense at least. The effort is there and we have the luxury of a great roster around him. We can’t give up on him yet, but he needs to put the ball in the hole. The lack of scoring is the most concerning thing.
He seems super nervous all the time- probably scared from last year and getting benched. He’s not playing his natural style so it makes sense it’s gonna be clunky for a kid that young trying to learn new specific roles. I don’t think he’s a bust yet, he’s wayyyy too young to say. Probably could’ve used another year or two in college to develop.
It’s not even that he can’t shoot anymore, even when he gets to the rim *he telegraphs almost every single layup* and has gotten blocked I don’t even know how many times at this point. You’re 6’0″ at best, *you can’t just go against a defender planning to take a regular layup!!* 🤦♂️
He should be in the g league and Newton should be on the team
Chauncey Billups was a garbage point guard for a good 4 years before he figured it out and he had a much more NBA ready body to work with. These Dilly posts lack perspective on how difficult the PG position is and that plenty of very good guards take time and effort to develop. Whether we can wait or not is a whole different topic.
Bro is broken he needs a new environment
Dilly gets to the paint with ease and has ran the offense well. If he hits one three last night in the second half, probably different narrative today. He’s lost some confidence but he’s no Jared Culver. Yesterday was his best game all around game with the exception of the missed shots.
Ya hes looking like a bust. I’d play it out till the trade deadline to see if improves, if not I almost think we should just dump him to a tanking team to get off his contract. Ideally it brings back a depth at PG and/ or C but the extra 7 mil might be the difference in being able to use the a larger portion/ Full MLE next off-season and Re-signing Clark.
Feels like he should go to the G-league to just get playing time in. He’s obviously not ready for the NBA, he’s still only 20 and it’s a position almost no smaller players are gonna excel at that age. I still think he can be good, just needs more reps and to get bigger
bad bad miss by connelly, hurts this window in so many ways
I’ve never seen somebody get blocked as much as him
Is that good?
Threads like this are why reddit is what it is. Young guy, in his 2nd year….playing on a playoff team…..HE’S A BUST! HE’S THE GOAT!
How about letting guys develop?
Another “Rob is broken post”. I think thats about four per day for the past two months. If he could shoot 45% from the field and 40% from 3, there is a place for him in the league because of his other skills. If not, he wont be around long. Good luck to Rob.
Loved taking a chance on him in that weak draft class but it’s overwhelmingly clear at this point he’s not good and won’t turn into something. Really disappointed the front office couldn’t put together the obvious that Conley+Dillingham is not viable at P
