NFL Week 12 Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Chicago Bears | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NFL on NBC
Pittsburgh Steelers 6-4 and in first place in the AFC North, holding that oneame lead over the Ravens. The Bears 7-3. They’re in first place in the NFC North, barely ahead of the Packers at 63-1 and the Lions at 6-4. Chicago is favored by two and a half. This is one of three games this weekend where both teams have winning records. I have picked the Steelers to lose just once against the Colts, and of course, the Steelers won that day. Who do you pick to win when Aaron Rogers or Mason Rudolph or hell, for all we know, Will Howard lines up to play quarterback for the Steelers in Soldier Field on Sunday? Well, there’s one, I think it’s going to be a close game. And right now, in a close game of football, I I like the Chicago Bears. I I mean, they seem to be the most comfortable in in that environment. I mean, gosh, it’s every freaking week, right? the the the the Steelers and I kind of feel like and maybe you could correct me if I’m wrong, but just, you know, with my gut remembering their wins from the year when they win a football game, it’s kind of like they control the game from the very get-go. And there it’s not close. It doesn’t come down to the very end that way. So, there’s a little bit of part of me that goes, “Yeah, in a close football game, I like the Bears.” Now, Caleb Williams, we know is getting better, all of that. But him doing some of his crazy stuff, running around, holding the ball maybe a little longer than he should at times, right? That scares me, too. Especially against, as we know, TJ Watt and Highmith and Herbig and all that. I mean, they thrive in those environments to where guys scrambling and they knock the ball out of his hands, right? So, that’s where I worry about that. and their edge guys I do feel like can contain Caleb a little bit to a degree but this is still not a good defense in Pittsburgh. I I I want to make that clear. This is still again yes we all look at the score last week at the Bengals game and just we forget it was 13-9 and the the Bengals were driving and then they got a touchdown a defensive touchdown that kind of ended the football game. So I’m not sitting here looking at like oh the Steelers fixed all their woes there. I’m going to go Bears here. All right. I’m gonna go Bears, right? And and take them 23 to 20. Uh close one, not best bet, but I’m gonna take them winning this football game. And since you raised the point, let’s go ahead and fill in the gap here. The Steelers beat the Jets week one on a 60ard walk-off field goal by Chris Boswell. Okay, so that was a close game that the Steelers won late. Week three, week three against the Patriots, they had to stop the Patriots who were driving right around the 30. Remember Pop Douglas caught the short pass, had the first down, took the step back, ended the drive, ended the game. The Steelers had all the turnovers that day to keep the Patriots from winning a game they should have won. The Vikings in Ireland, that was a game where they had to hold off. The Vikings late couldn’t see the play clock. Yeah. But but the Steelers have shown that they can win close games. And look, here’s here’s the difference maker for me. I believe Aaron Rogers, despite the fracture in his wrist, will play. I believe he will play. I believe he will play well enough. This is going to be his last game ever against the Bears. Last visit ever to Soldier Field. I mean, we don’t know what’s going to happen next year, but he’s got the vibe this year of a guy who is pulling the train into the station. So, this is it. And that’s going to drive him. And it was funny because on Tuesday, Mike Tomlin said, “Oh, he doesn’t care. He just loves football. He wants him playing any game.” Then Wednesday, Rogers is like, “Boy, it’s really special to me to go back and play the Bears one more time.” So, he’s going to do it. He’s going to be there. And I think he gets it done. He blew his chance to beat the Packers. This was the next game. When the schedule came out, it was Packers then Bears. When do they play the Bears in Chicago? Oo, right before Thanksgiving. Oh, wow. That’s an intriguing game. This is a bizarro bingo bango bongo. I got 2320 Steelers. A bizarro bingo bango bongo. That’s amazing. So, what we’re going to have to What are we going to call it if the score hits, right? Because it’s not a bingo bango bongo. What the hell do we call what’s the last word we do? Bung ho. Bung hole. Right. So, this is We got to We got to come up with another word here because it could be reverse. Bingo. Bango. Bung hole. So, I don’t know. We’re going to have to figure that one out. Yo yo yo.
