BLOCKBUSTER 76ers Trade Rumors On Anthony Davis via NBA Insiders

[Music] The Dallas Mavericks are selling. Nico Harrison has been fired. And according to multiple NBA insiders, the Mavs could look to trade Anthony Davis away this season. If they do, could the Sixers try to get involved? Call up the Mavs for a potential Anthony Davis trade. That’s what we’re talking about here on today’s show. Before we get into all that and the trade rumors in my opinion, and I have a trade idea as well, we’re going to be live tonight. Sixers verse Raptors. Second match up of the year between these two teams. Philadelphia will be wearing their sick throwback unis, of course. We’ll be live on the channel for a watch party. That game gets underway at 7 PM Eastern. So, hit that sub button, turn on your notifications, and set them to all. That way when we go live, we push out a show like this one, you will be notified. I hope to see you all there. So, I mentioned several NBA insiders over the past week plus have reported the Mavs could be looking to move Anthony Davis. This isn’t just coming up out of nowhere. This has been confirmed multiple times. And Tim McMahon of ESPN, the latest to add on to these Anthony Davis rumors, saying this. Multiple team sources said the Mavs, who are four and 11 outside the playoff picture in the West, will also explore the trademark it for Anthony Davis, the 10-time all-star big, who was the headliner in the return of the Luca Donic deal, as part of that process before this season’s deadline. So, AD very well could be on the move. Now, before we talk about Anthony Davis real quick, what a disaster this has been really the past year for the Dallas Mavericks. You trade away Luca, right? If you’re Nico Harrison, you know, you make that move, you say that you didn’t realize how much Luca meant to the fan base. I mean, what are we talking about? You get Anthony Davis back, you know, very good player. We’ll talk about him in a second. But then, you know, Nico gets fired and now you’re talking about trading away the player you got back for Luca. Just an absolute disaster. So, when you know, when you question how the Sexers organization is being run, just always know there are people out there who have it a little bit worse. Now look, getting back to this Anthony Davis talk, is it worth it for the Sixers? Should they get involved? What could they give up? I think if AD is available, which by all means, it sounds like he will be closer to the deadline, the Sixers at the very least should reach out and see what the asking price is, how much Dallas would want back in return for a player like Davis, what, you know, the other offers, how competitive this market is. Obviously with Harrison gone, they’re going to be a little more stingy, I think, and making sure they get a good return for when they trade away a star player. But also, they’re looking towards the future, rebuilding really around Cooper flag. So, the Sixers are in a position, I think, to ask at least what the price could be given some of the assets Philadelphia has. Now, that being said, there is a lot of risk here with a player in Anthony Davis. And, you know, we’ll get to his injury history. Obviously, when you talk about the Sixers and some of their players having injury concerns in Embiid and Paul George, adding another player like Anthony Davis, who has these injury concerns, this injury history is very risky. And right now, he’s dealing with a calf strain. Sources have said that before Harrison was fired, he tried to push Anthony Davis to get back out there on the floor, play through the calf strain. He was very easily could have torn his Achilles if he went back out there too early. a torn Achilles at this point in Anthony Davis’s career could be a career ender, right? So, there’s obviously a lot of risk involved here, but he is a fantastic player. So, how do you balance the risk of the injuries for an aging player like AD with the reward of how good he can be if he is out there on the floor healthy? I think this Western Conference exec kind of encapsulated that perfectly. While you can point to Davis as a top 20 player in Los Angeles, it is a $175 million gamble and perhaps more if you trade for him. I would want to see a long stretch of games of Davis healthy before there could there could ever be a discussion. And I think that has to be part of the conversation. He’s injured right now currently. He hasn’t played in a little while. He has to get back out there on the floor and show he can be healthy before I am willing to make a deal for Anthony Davis because again the injury history is concerning. Missed 31 games last year being traded to the Mavs. eventually got shut down. Of course, was pretty healthy in 2023 24, but prior to that, 26 games missed in 2022 23, 42 games missed the year before that, 46 games missed in 2020 2021. And it’s been a whole different list of injuries, right? Lower body, knees, ankles. He was dealing with an eye injury at the end of last season. Now he’s dealing with a calf strain. He’s I think he’s had abdominal injuries in the past. So, it’s not like he has the degenerative knee issues Embiid has, which I guess you could point at least as a positive. He doesn’t have those kind of issues. But he’s also been injured everywhere, right? And he’s been a very injuryprone player. But when he is out there, I don’t think there’s really a debate that he is may maybe not what he once was, but man, Anthony Davis is still a damn good player and definitely a top 20 player in the league. potential to be even higher than that with what he can do on both sides of the ball. A perennial AllNBA player, an alldefensive kind of player, obviously an NBA champion way back when with a Los Angeles Lakers. And look, he’s played just five games this year. Still looked good in those five games. You’re talking about a guy that can put up 20 and 10 in his sleep while also blocking two shots per game, can make shots from all over the floor. And that kind of presence defensively combined with what he can do on the offensive side of the foot of the basketball, excuse me, it it really makes him such a unique talent and a unique skill set. And again, no doubt he’s one of the best players in the league when healthy. But, you know, combined with the injury history, you have to factor in the contract. Of course, an aging player who’s off injured is going to be making a lot of money over the next few seasons. Up to $62 million in a player option in 2027, 2028. So, you got to balance all these things, right? Great player, does have an injury, going to be making a lot of money. So, what is his value in a trade? How much would the Sixers value a player like this, right? Who obviously would make their team much better given everything you have to consider when making a potential move. Now, I talked to our Mavericks host here at Chat Sports, my guy Jeffrey Cooperstein, just kind of seeing where his his head was at in regards to a potential trade. Are the Mavs going to actually deal him? He said yes. What are or what would you want back personally? How much would it really take to get Anthony Davis given he’s great, but has some of these concerns? And this is kind of the deal that we came out to. I said I would do this deal. My my guy Coupe said he would do this deal as well if he was the Mavericks. Covers them very closely. He knows, you know, the Mavericks, how they operate, how they do things. He said he would do this deal. Sixers get Anthony Davis, Brandon Williams, to match the salaries. If you’re Philadelphia, you give up. Paul George, Jared McCain, and that 2028 Clippers first round pick. Now, I’m gonna get into some of my reasons why I do think this is a good move. But look, it it’s tough. Obviously, you know, you’re giving up a young player in McCain who just a year ago was looking like he was going to be a future star of your organization. Paul George, you know, coming off the injuries, he’s obviously aging, big salary as well, similar to Anthony Davis. And this could be a really good first round pick. So, it’s tough, right? I know, especially giving up McCain. I don’t want to give like give up on him this early, but I would make the deal. I would. I think Anthony Davis is worth it and I think the injury concerns for what you’re giving up here. I would be willing to take that chance and I’ll dive more into why I would make the trade here in just a moment, but I want to hear from you guys first, right? Of course, you always have a voice on this show and I value guy your guys’s opinions and would love to hear what you guys think. Would you make this move giving up Paul George McCain in a first for Anthony Davis? Type A for accept. Type D for decline. Let me know what you’re thinking down in the comments section. And of course, feel free to give your reasoning as well. Now, before I get into my main reasons why I would make this move, when I tell you guys that the Sixers throwback jerseys are now available through our friends at Fanatics, chatsports.com/76 jerseys. You see the link right below me. It’ll be in the comments and description of today’s show as well. The throwback jerseys, they’re sick. I told you when they became available, I would let you guys know so you can go get your hands on these jerseys right now. Of course, they’re very popular. Starting to sell out in some certain sizes. So, be sure you go over there and get them before it is too late. A perfect gift for yourself or a loved one, fellow Sixers fan for the holidays. But also, the new city edition jerseys are available for the Sixers. I like the design. It’s clean. It’s, you know, similar to what they’ve had in past years, but I think think they did a good job this season. So, these are available as well. Again, chatsports.com76 jerseys, that link in the comments and description of today’s show. So, why I would make that trade trading PG Main and that pick for Anthony Davis? One, Paul George at this point almost a negative asset when it comes to trade value. We’ve heard reports before that he would be considered a negative asset in a trade. Given his contract, given his age, given the injury history, you know, trading away Paul George, it’s not easy. Not a lot of teams are going to value what he’s bringing to their squad with his long-term contract. He’ll be 37 years old, making $56 million in 2027, 2028. So, in my opinion, putting him in this deal, it’s really just a salary matcher, right? and you almost have to attach a first round pick just to trade Paul George away. So, I don’t really consider this that big of a loss. Even if I do think Paul George can be better this year than he was last year, I thought despite him not shooting well in his debut the other night, I did still think he looked pretty good for Philadelphia. But again, almost a negative asset in league circles. And so, you’re giving him up as the big salary portion of this move. I don’t think it’s really that big of a loss. Now, Jiren McCain is the player that you’re looking at like, man, we got to give up McCain for an old player in Anthony Davis. No guarantee he stays healthy. That’s the only hold up I would have with this move, right? Is giving up McCain. But there’s no guarantee on Jared McCain. And I’m starting to get a little bit concerned with him coming off his injury and what we have seen since he has returned. He has yet to score this season for the Sixers. And look, you got to give him time. I understand that. I’ve said that. It’s been pretty much a year since he’s played basketball. Coming off a pretty major miniscus injury and then hurting his thumb as well. It’s going to take him time to get back to the player he was last year. But again, like you have VJ Edgecomb who is a perfect starter in the back court next to Maxi. You still have Quinton Grimes under roster. If it takes Jared McCain to ship him out to get a star player in here, I would do the deal again because you just don’t know if he can get back to being the same player he was prior to the injury. I think he can. I love McCain and I wouldn’t want to move him, but you got to give up good players to get good players and I think it’d be worth it to get Anthony Davis to give up Jared McCain. Now, of course, the other aspect of that move was giving up that Clippers pick in 2028, which is a valuable pick, right? The Clippers are bad right now. Who knows what they’re going to look like in 2028. Now, the pick could be great because their roster led by a lot of older players. But also, while the pick is valuable, it’s unknown. It’s not like it’s a first round pick this year where you can say, “All right, the Clippers are bad this year. That’s going to be a high pick.” They could easily make moves to improve their roster in a big market with an aggressive owner and Steve Balmer by the 2027 2028 season. So, does the pick maybe have more value now while it’s unknown as opposed to maybe that the the Clippers do make some moves and get their roster retoled and shaped up to a point where they are competitive that season. So, maybe you maximize the value of the pick by trading it now while their future doesn’t look great before potentially they do make some moves to improve that roster. Although, and I will say it it is a valuable pick, but again, holding on to that pick, no guarantee it does become a top pick. you can trade it now for a guaranteed good player in Anthony Davis. And speaking of AD, like I I want to stress like how good of a player he actually is when he’s right. I mean, this is a guy he’s not Pelicans Anthony Davis anymore who wasn’t in MVP conversations, but look, obviously won a championship with the Lakers. He was the centerpiece of that Luca Donuch deal. and his impact he can have on this team on both sides of the ball. Man, the Sixers still really, you know, having rebounding problems, having problems defending the rim. He helps both of those at the highest degree, right? One of the best overall defenders we have in the league. Rim protection. He’s a great offensive player as well. And so, he is, I think, maybe closer to a top 15 player if he is completely healthy. you get that for almost a negative asset in Paul George, a good young player and Jared McCain and one first round pick. I don’t really see how you could say no to that kind of deal. And then finally, you also don’t lose any depth in this trade, right? The Sixers have a lot of depth right now. They have guys off the bench that have really helped spark this start to their season. You don’t lose any of that, right? Think about the players you’re giving up. Paul George has played one game. Jared McCain’s barely played. So, when you look at the current iteration of this Sixers team, you’re really not giving up anything that has led to your good start this season. You’re giving up players that you think could add to that, but you really haven’t had Paul George or Jerry McCain all season long. And the Sixers have still started strong. So, you’re really not giving up anything that has led to this strong start. And then this potential starting five, Maxi, VJ, Ubé, Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid. That is a phenomenal starting unit. And again, you would still have a Quinton Grimes off the bench, right? You’re not giving up any of these depth pieces. Tren Watford, Dominic Barlo, Jabari Walker. You’re getting back a guard and Brandon Williams who can add to your guard rotation. Giving up Jared McCain. You still have, you know, Justin Edwards, Adam Bona, Andre Drummond. not giving up any players that have impacted this team this season. Plus, Anthony Davis, although he does have have his own injury concerns, when Embiid doesn’t play, Anthony Davis can step into that role of the playing center, even though AD likes more playing the four, it does kind of cover you up, give you a little bit of insurance when Joel Embiid is not not out there on the floor. And I want to end with this really quickly because this was also brought up uh by my guy Jeffrey Cooperson who covers the Mavs here. If you don’t want to give up McCain and or if the Mavs don’t want Paula George given his age and injury history, could the Sixers maybe consider a one forone swap Joel Embiid straight up for Anthony Davis? It’s an intriguing idea. Both guys obviously have injury histories. They’re getting older, making a lot of money. Their injury history is a little bit different, right? Embiid, I think you have a little bit more of a concern because the nature of the injuries, right? The almost degenerative knee issues that he is having whereas Anthony Davis, it’s just more like he’s constantly injuring different things. It’s an intriguing idea. I think I would do it if it was just straight up and beat for AD. I think I would do it, but to me, that just doesn’t really seem super realistic. A one for one swap there. I think the Mavericks are looking to rebuild more than kind of just swap uh injured superstar centers at this point. All right, that’ll do it for today’s show. Of course, give me your thoughts on this Anthony Davis trade situation down in the comments. Don’t forget to hit that sub button and join us for our live watch party tonight against the Toronto Raptors. Hope to see you there. We’ll see you next time right here on 76ers Now. [Music]

  1. D! First, he’s never available. Adding another frequently injured star feeds into our current problem. Second, that’s going to be a good draft pick we give to Dallas. Third, AD does NOT have the temperament to play in Philly. The fans and the media will eat him alive. Lastly, selling McCain low is very shortsighted. He’s got a ton of upside and he’s on a cap friendly contract for the foreseeable future

  2. Thanks! No No No!!!! Who was the Big, Big, Stiff we Traded the Lakers for a few yrs. Ago? Andrew Bynum! 🧐😨 The Guy was Flamingo Dancing in Spain all season and Did Not Play One Game for us in Philly! No, No…..an Old Longtime Lakers Center we Traded for was Darryl Imhoff back in the Convention Hall Days 😡😞 Guess who We gave up to get that Big Stiff…..THE LATE GREAT WILT CHAMBERLAIN…..OUR HOME GROWN "BIG DIPPER"!!!! 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 I AM STILL TRAUMATIZED MY THAT REALLY STUPID MOVE!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡 Even Worse than our Barkley Trade!! 😢😢😢😢😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😞😞😨😨

  3. No way, stays hurt all the time. That is too much money to spend on another injury prone player and give up our good players and draft picks. You can't get a full season between him and Embid. If they make that trade and give away that much, I'll never watch another 76ers game.

  4. I have a better idea. Do not trade for Davis. Trade George and Embid. Pick up some players and draft picks. Find someone who actually knows how to draft players.

  5. Philadelphia sixers still need more size, To compete with other teams, We need a big back up center and powerful forward , Maxey need help, Please get rid of Embiid, George and Coach, The fans want a championship now 🏆🏆 Let's go Sixers, Let's go Maxey 🌹🌹❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

  6. This is exactly why you would be a horrible GM. AD is aging, always hurt and unreliable. Yes trading PG would be beneficial for this team but trading McCain and giving up on him just 5 games into his second season is insane. He was having one of the better years for a rookie guard in the past 10 years and looked to maybe even have more potential then Maxey on several occasions last year. He still has potential to be an all star one day. On top of that trading either of the clippers picks would be dumb. The clippers already look horrible, 3 years down the line they will be a bottom 5 team and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up a top 5 pick in both 2028 and 2029. Giving up a pick that looks like its going to be a top pick in the draft and a young star who is just getting his confidence back would end up being the worst trade since the fultz, tatum deal.

  7. Not only will I NOT make the deal because of McCain, i wouldn't make it because of the 2028 pick. Morey has been cooking recently with drafting players. Even if the pick is later, it could bring us another Maxey, AD is not the same player.

  8. Listen , I’m sick & tired of the SIXERS looking towards injured has been players , dreaming like these players are going to help bring a championship when in reality it’ll be a nightmare that’ll cost us for years . We have better chance shooting craps on a ice cold table with every single penny of our life savings on the pass line . Yeah good luck with that , he’ll just be replacing PG on the bench . Even when healthy he’s still average !

  9. Only a moron would make a trade for a guy who never plays. We already have 4 guys who never play! The moron who got the sixers into this mess… should have been fired long ago!

  10. im avid on trading Embiid and George and lets build around this young core of Maxey Vj Grimes McCain Edwards Bona Barlow Walker and let Kelly be our vet.. let those old farts go.. the unavailability of Embiid and Pg leads to other players getting injured.. they’re NEVER available and other players are constantly being asked to do more leading to injury or being fatigued by 3rd or 4th quarter.
