Rob Manfred addresses MLB’s next steps after betting scandal

CMON everyone knows they let Ohtani gamble and simply blamed his “interpreter”. I mean can you blame MLB for turning the blind eye? Ohtani is def bringing fans back to the sport. Just sucks he was gambling…
Manfred: “We understood the prop bet issue from the beginning.”
Clearly you did not. I’m a bit worried that Manfred’ lackadaisical attitude does towards sports betting undermines confidence in the game. It’s not just the players’ involvement.
Get a team in Las Vegas ASAP
So, he said nothing more will be done. The previously announced $200 prop bet on individual pitches and no parlays for prop bets is all.
“Believe it or not? Jail.”
what a joke, society needs a shift towards honesty and media needs to be deconstructed and rebuilt with the publics interest instead of corporate greed as its master, all the pro leagues are so fucking corrupt at this point
Anything but a salary floor or cap… 🙄
There have been a lot of commissioners throughout sports who’ve been bad because they’re evil, but I can’t think of one who was just so woefully in over his head and incompetent.
Can they ban in house betting? How many stadiums have books within their playing facility?
Maybe he will buy that it was their translators again.
This thread, like every r/mlb thread, has a Promoted post from FanDuel at the top
Anything but stopping relationships with these betting platforms.
What are the odds that he will duck it?
Seriously, what is the over/under?
Where can I bet this?
He announced a new rule that every at-bat will now automatically start with a 3-2 count.
all meaningless until they jail ohtani for gambling and make the dodgers trot out ippei every day as dh and every fifth day as starting pitcher 🤷♂️
I think the MLBPA will adopt a “player opt out”. That Athletic article last week should’ve been pretty eye opening (death threats and whatnot). It’ll take a guy like Skenes, Cole, Scherzer to say “You can’t bet on my props or use me in a parlay”.
He didnt address shit for ohtani 🖕
His job is to make the owners as much money as possible, after that, it’s to protect their assets which is collectively MLB. At the end of the day They really don’t give a shit about the integrity of the game, nor do they care about the fans when it’s measured against the amount of money that’s taken in from gambling.
The history of the game, the integrity of it and just about everything good and pure that surrounds major league baseball is because of the love and devotion of its fans. Some owners respect that, but many don’t. And when it comes to this gambling issue with MLB, the owners are going to take the money 100% of the time. Look at what’s happening in the NBA? This is not just a major league baseball issue, and you don’t hear any team owners or leagues talking about dropping their partnerships and gambling sponsorships. It’s too much money, they’re just going to pick off the bad actors that they catch.
