The Dallas Mavericks have another disaster on the books this season from Nico Harrison…

We got to talk about a big disaster happening with the Dallas Mavericks right now. No, it’s not that Luka Don is just leading the league in scoring and killing it over there at the Lakers and the fact that we all have to watch Luca in a Lakers jersey every night or the fact that Dirk Nitzky went and interviewed him the beginning of the season in the Lakers locker room or the Nico Harrison was finally fired and now the Mavs have cogs. They have to try and figure out what they’re going to do with their front office while they’re in this big situation, big decision point where the Mavs have to decide if they’re tanking or if they’re going to try and go for it this season. Or the fact that Anthony Davis is still out with injuries. The third injury he’s had since joining the Mavericks and Cooper Flag has played more games and more minutes than Anthony Davis has as a Maverick so far. And so is DeAndre Aiden for the Lakers, by the way. No, it’s actually the last move that Nico Harrison made as the GM. And that’s the Dante Exam move. The Mavs needed a point guard in the offseason. And it was very clear the Mavs needed somebody else because Kyrie Irving was going to be out for the season. They brought in D’Angel Russell. They had Brandon Williams and then they’re like, “All right, we need somebody else.” So they bring back Dante Exon from last year and say, “Hey, Dante, you want to sign a veteran minimum deal, $3.3 million deal.” And he’s like, “Yeah, sure. Of course.” So they bring him in. But the problem is they don’t have enough roster spots. So they have to move somebody. So they tried to trade Jaden Hardy. They tried to trade Omax Prosper. Couldn’t do either of those. So they decided to wave and stretch’s contract and and give up on Omax basically. So now the Mavs have 1 million less on their books for this year, next year, and the year after that because they waved and stretched that deal. And so now Dante Exom today, the Mavs announced that he’s having season ending knee surgery and he’ll be out for the the entire season. The Mavs are already at 15 players. They would have to wave Exom to create a roster spot. And you’re like, “All right, well, his his deal is only one year. Why don’t they just wave him and sign somebody else?” The problem is they’re already hardcapped at the second apron, the second luxury tax level. And so they can’t sign a player until January 6th. And the 10-day contract window opens on January 5th. So they have to wait another month and a half in order to bring somebody in that can help. Dante XM obviously hasn’t played the whole year. He was never even cleared to start training camp. Just another one of those where you go, how did they not know about this going into this season? How did they not know? Or how did they not pivot after they found out that something happened with Dante Exam’s knee? Did they just give him a promise and say, all right, we’re going to do this because the official signing didn’t happen for a while into the offseason. We were waiting on it for a while. Another just weird thing with Nico Harrison’s regime.

  1. I was telling my folks that Dinwiddie was a better option than Exum because he was more available and he was pretty big in some situations

  2. Sucks to hear. Exum when he played was effective. He Did a lot of things just well. He ran the offense well, was a respectable three point shooter, always in motion to help free up passing lanes options, good pick and roll guy and is a solid guard defender (hes like 6'5 and agile). Jist high IQ player. Could have used him. Sucks hes just out. Wish it could have worked.

  3. The domino effect for trading Luka has to be one of the most drastic ones I’ve ever seen for a franchise.

And despite people not really blaming Nico and the Mavs for their ‘surprise’ injuries, I REALLY do.

Firing Cassie Smith is arguably a bigger blunder than the Luka trade at this point. I don’t think it would have fixed everything, but the clear and massive spike in injury is right there as evidence.

    D-Live, Kyrie, Exum, AD, etc.

I said it when it initially happened, but I’ll say it again. Dallas was the worst spot in the league for AD to land, simply because this team has a horrible track record with injuries, most of which I blame on Nico for kicking out the previous regime.

  4. Clearly if you have nothing left. It's on the coach. Give nymhard some minutes to develop. Kidd is just stagnant coach. He is so very traditional coach he only rely what he only sees. Developed some players.

  5. What we need to talk about is this barrage of injuries dallas players are having since firing casey smith (former director for player health and performance)

  6. The luka and kyrie finals run was special. That boston celtics team was then only team that gave them problems. That celtics team isn't the same no more. The mavs were literally best in the west with luka. Okc couldn't F### with us.
