This Anthony Davis Trade Report Will SHOCK Mavericks Fans
Another [Music] day, another AD trade update coming down the pipeline. And this one is not a report. It is more of a matter of fact from Maverick’s minority owner Mark Cuban, who said, “The Mavericks have no plans to trade Anthony Davis.” And I’ll get into why, but not sure I I’m buying what Mark is saying out there in the ether. Here’s what Mark Cuban had to say. We won’t we want to try to win. When he was asked if the Mavericks were going to trade Anthony Davis, that is what he told the Athletic via email that the Mavericks have no plans to move on from AD, who was acquired for Luca Nonic back in February. And to that I say that’s a bunch of malarkey and I don’t believe Mark Cuban. And we’ll get into why some of the reasons why I don’t believe Mark whatsoever here on today’s show. But before we do, hit that thumbs up icon for me if you haven’t already. The bosses said I need to get to 200 likes on this video. I don’t want to find out what happens if I don’t get to 200 likes. So please hit that thumbs up icon if you love the Dallas Mavericks. And like I alluded to a little bit uh earlier in the show, I’m not so sure I believe Mark Cuban here for a couple of reasons. Number one, if just on the surface, it would make zero sense for the Mavericks to hold on to Anthony Davis. It just wouldn’t make sense organizationally for that to be the course of action that they take. AD has only played in five games this season. He is dealing with the injury crisis that he has dealt with throughout the entire course of his career. basically. And now the Mavericks are at a crossroads where they have to decide between trying to win now and trying to build for the future with Cooper Flag. AD is a great player. He’s the future Hall of Famer. We all know that. That is completely undisputed. His name will forever be etched in basketball history when he retires, and he will be in the Hall of Fame. None of that is in question. What is in question is how can Anthony Davis help this organization the most right now? Can he help them on the court by trying to win basketball games? Well, not really because he doesn’t play very often. Can he help them via getting a return in a trade? I do think that’s where AD could help this organization out. And I mean, it all comes back to the same thing. He’s not playing basketball. So maybe what can the Mavericks really get for Anthony Davis? And maybe that’s where Mark Cuban is coming from. But you saw the quote. He said, “We won’t trade him. We want to try to win. Thing is, you ain’t going to do any winning this year. You’re going nowhere fast this season. Are you talking about next season? Are you talking about the season beyond? Then I can buy that a little bit. If you wanted to keep Anthony Davis into the fold, I could buy the fact that you want to try to get him healthy and have another year of him, Kyrie, and Cooper flag together. I could see that being a course of action that the Mavericks would want to take as far as trying to compete goes. But saying we’re going to win this year, absolutely no shot. Tim McMahon said this, and we’ll bring this back up again, where he said, “It’s uncertain what the trade market even would be for Davis due to the durability issues. Although he’s a dominant force on both ends of the floor, league sources are adamant that gauging the market over the upcoming months is due diligence that Dallas must undertake.” I absolutely agree. They have to do the proper due diligence on what the Anthony Davis trade market would look like on if they could get a first round pick. Hell, if they could get multiple first round picks, if they could get young players, whatever the case may be. Mavericks interim GMs Matt Ricardi and Michael Finley have to do what’s best for the organization. And what would be best for the organization would be at least seeing what you could get in an Anthony Davis trade. If they don’t like what they see, that’s fine, but it would be malpractice. Do not even consider trading Anthony Davis for the sake of competing this year when you’ve only won four games this season and you are absolutely in the basement of the Western Conference. There’s no way out this year. Could they be a competitive team next year with AD Kyrie Flag and whatever draft pick they have? Sure. But we’re talking about this season, no shot. Absolutely no shot. Another reason why I’m not fully buying why Mark Cuban or what Mark Cuban is selling here by saying that the Mavericks aren’t going to trade AD. He’s not even the top decision maker in this new uh tree of trust, this new brain trust, so to speak. Now, Cuban is at the table at least, which was not the case over the last couple of seasons after Nico Harrison froze him out. But here’s kind of what the brain trust looks like right now if I’m reading the tea leaves. Number one, you have the owner, Patrick Dumont, at the top. He’s obviously making the final call. Number two, 2A and 2B, I’ll put the interim GMs there, Michael Finley and Matt Ricardi. Number four, I’ll put your head coach, Jason Kidd, who is fresh off an extension and has as much leverage as anybody in the organization to make decisions involving the roster. And you know what? Don’t be shocked if Jason Kidd is named the next permanent GM of the Mavericks and the Mavs go out and try to hire a new coach. Just don’t be shocked if that happens. And then number five, I would put Mark Cuban there. Yes, he is at the table. No, he does not have final say in what goes on in the Maverick’s basketball operations. He is there to be a sounding board. He is there to offer suggestions. He is there to kind of guide the ship, so to speak, but he will not decide whether or not Anthony Davis is traded. The decision will not be up to him. He can say, “We’re not going to trade AD all he wants.” Well, if Matt Ricardi, Michael Finley, Jason Kidd, and Patrick Dumont all decide that AD is getting traded, got news for you. AD’s getting traded. So, while it’s nice that I I don’t even know if nice is the right word. It’s interesting that Cuban is back in the fold and has the ear of Patrick Dumont and vice versa. At the end of the day, nothing has really changed here. He is just at the table instead of just being in his seat behind the bench. he is now being involved in these meetings as far as planning for the future goes. So, all that being said, we’ll ask you this on today’s show and it’ll be our pin question. Will the Mavericks trade AD this season? Simple why for yes and for no down in the comments. I still lean yes, but it wouldn’t shock me if they held on to at least the offseason. Let me know down there in the comments what y’all think though. Other maps trade candidates include Klay Thompson, Daniel Gaffford, Naji Marshall. Obviously, I think these are the guys that kind of have the contracts that aren’t too small, but also aren’t too big to where they’re completely untradable. Gaffford signed that three-year $54 million extension this off seasonason that had no trade restriction. So, you can trade him right away. Really think he could help a contending team with this high effort, high energy play from the center position. Klay Thompson is in the second year of his deal, but frankly doesn’t really have much trade value because he can’t hit the broadside of a barn right now. And I know this was kind of the case in the first month of the season last year as well where he came out really slow, but I kind of think at this point it’s more than just a trend and the best days for Klay Thompson are well behind him. Naji Marshall will also have some value on the trademark as a three and D wing who is not just a three-point shooter even though he’s shot it decently this year. He’s a really good playmaker on the offensive end as well and he can just kind of do things within the flow and the structure of a team on both ends of the court. He can guard on the perimeter. He can guard inside. He can play de facto point guard like he did last night for the Mavericks against the New York Knicks. So, I do think that Marshall will have some value here. And these are the three guys that if you’re looking at at the trade deadline, I would say are the most likely to be moved outside of Anthony Davis. Hell, I might even put Gaffford above Anthony Davis as most likely to be moved. But we’ll get to more AD reports here in just a second and another reason why Mark Cuban just may be flat out wrong in what he told The Athletic. But before we do that, today’s show is sponsored by Price Pix. You and I make decisions every single day, but on Price Pix, making those right decisions can get you paid. That link will be in the comments and description of today’s show. Shout out to Prize Fix. It is good to be right. Moving along here and kind of just dispelling more what Mark Cuban had to say about the Mavericks not trading Anthony Davis. It’s just weird because all of the reports up to Mark saying that are kind of the contrary. You had the likes of Tim McMahon saying the Mavericks are going to explore the trade market. You had the likes of whoever else, Brian Winhorse saying that they’re going to explain comes out and says, “No, we’re not going to.” And I understand why Mark would do that because you can’t just come out and flat out say, “Yeah, we’re going to trade Anthony Davis.” You have no leverage in the situation. in that case if you do that. So, I understand. But it felt like this was kind of just an unprompted kind of response for Cuban to the fans saying, “We’re going to try and win.” Well, again, you’re going nowhere this season. And Sham Shirania kind of put water on Cuban’s fire, so to speak, when he also said that the Mavericks are going to be exploring trading away AD. He went and said the franchise is moving away from Nico’s 3 to fouryear championship window and trying to find sustained success growth around Cooper Flag and the youth. And to that end, sources told ESPN, “The Mavericks will be listening to trade calls for AD and exploring his value.” And for that, health will be the biggest key, not only for the Mavericks to evaluate AD over a lengthy period, an extended period of time on the court, but for teams that could have interest to see what he looks like when he’s back. I mean, there’s a lot of evaluation is basically what Shams is saying. The Mavericks have to evaluate number one, whether or not AD is healthy. Number two, whether or not AD can still play at a very high level, which I actually do think he can if he gets a sustained run of games here in the next couple of weeks or so. But Davis is also going to be out for at least the next like five to six days. He’s going to miss at least the next three games. Then he gets re-evaluated after that. But all that to say, the line of thinking makes much more sense that the Mavericks are going to at minimum explore all avenues when it comes to AD. They can explore what it looks like to keep him. I’m cool with that. They have to explore what it looks like to trade him as well. And I do think at the end of the day, they are going to do that due diligence that was talked about earlier in the show. They’re going to at least see what the market looks like before they make any rash decisions. Now, there is a possible caveat here. I could see the Mavericks waiting until the off season to move on from BD. They don’t like what they see at the deadline or Davis isn’t healthy enough to play enough games to even be moved at the deadline. This absolutely could be a thing that is revisited this off seasonason when teams might have more cap room. They might have more of an appetite to trade for an Anthony Davis who has a uh a year less on his contract than he currently has right now. Because as we sit at the moment, AD’s got two and a half years left on his deal. He’s under contract next year at 58.4 4 mil and then he’s under contract at in 2728 with a player option of 62.7 mil which I would be absolutely shocked beyond belief if he didn’t pick up. So you’re looking at two seasons of Anthony Davis and maybe that’s more appealing than paying two and a half seasons of Anthony Davis. All of this to say I think all options are going to be explored when it comes to the Anthony Davis trade market and the Mavericks would absolutely be doing themselves a complete disservice if they did not do it. The goal here is to build a team around Cooper Flag for the present and for the future. The goal is to not build around Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving. The goal is to build around the 18-year-old who looks absolutely awesome who missed just his first game of his NBA career last night by the way with an illness. Should be back for Friday’s matchup. But this is the entire goal of the Mavericks organization going forward. If that includes Anthony Davis next season, great. If that doesn’t include Anthony Davis next season, great. But either way, the Mavericks must find out what is best for them, and that includes exploring the trade market. So, sorry to tell you, Mark Cuban, you’re wrong on this one, my friend. I want to ask you guys before we get on out of here, when will the Mavericks be contenders again? Do you think it’s next year? Is it two years from now? TAKE A GUESS! Will the Mavs trade Anthony Davis? Y for Yes, N for No
LET ME KNOW! When will the Mavs be contenders again?
He is not getting traded no time soon!
Cuban just sd tht they are not trading AD
😊because it would set the franchise back 10 years by trading him
Click bait?
They won't get anything except trash until he shows he can still play. Like you said he won't be any good unless he shows. Teams are't stupid.,This is done season done anyways . It really hard a top ten pick after beating the odds the year.
No team is going to help the Mavericks get better with a high pick. Their having fun watching the Mavericks lose.
Youre a loser cooper
AD needs to play at least multiple weeks in order to trade him. Right now he has 0 value
If Mark had any say in all this why did he let Luka leave
Cuban will be dismissed next week and Shawn Bradley will be the new GM . Owner will make Shawn do all his work behind a wheelchair 🦼. That’s who the new owner is.
Minnesota Timberwolves trade Rob Dillingham, Naz Reid , Donte DiVincenzo, Mike Conley to the Mavs for Anthony Davis
The Mavs need to try to pull off the only trade that makes sense. Anthony Davis straight up for Zion Williamson.
Trying to trade AD right now is retarded. You will get $.25 on the dollar. You need to let him come back and play. Then trade him once he’s playing well. Trading him right now will only make the Luka trade worse because of the returns you will get.
No..it would make sense to keep AD. His value is crap right now. Let him and Kyrie play together. We either get some excitement and down blow things up yet. Worst case, he gets hurt again and his value drops. His current value is shit right now.
Wake up dude. He has to say he is not a trade in order to get the price that beings a person not on the market onto the market. I thought you understood sales. People want what they cant have.
If they keep AD beyond this season, it has to be at a discount. Im sure no team would offer him a max deal! I don't think keeping him is a terrible idea, but resign him at a discount to leave cap space to sign PGs. And use this summers draft pick wisely
That’s good. Give Mr.Davis a chance. Y’all be hating on dude when he hurt. When it’s Luka or any other nba player that’s gets hurt y’all don’t down him like y’all down Mr.Davis. Y’all some racist haters for that. I said what I said. Y’all need to support that man and stop the negative criticism. Y’all call these othe nba player street clothes too when they hurt. Racist a***** Give that brother a chance.
Go listen to Fortune 500
Haters per usual. Keep pushing.
Will get hurt immediately once he returns.
Go figure haters! 😂
Mark is yesterday's news paper. His day has come and gone. If he had any clue then obviously his hiring & firing under his ownership paints a clear picture. I passionate owner that loves to see himself courtside but to build championships you need rock solid mgt which from his top seat down has been pretty shaky. Look at his DEI hiring program over last 7 years. Dallas is not Detroit, Atlanta, New York or LA. Earth to Cuban Earth to Cuban Dallas is a much more conservative. You want to run for Democratic Presidential Nomination, sorry you will not carry Dallas or Texas in that pursuit. Go to your box seats keep your opinion to your yourself until asked and enjoy your family spending your billions of $ you have earned it, Congratulations, Race is over.
the crypto scam, fake surname…doesn't seem trustworthy
All I know is when cubes says something is “complete bullshit” It comes as as completely true soon after.
I thought last year was about getting AD healthy? 🤣
Keep the powder dry Cubes
Trade flagg and ad and max back for luka simple stop all the nonsense
silly coop the Cuban knows that you cannot trade ad for anything so to save face he says not trading
bro, what owner is gonna say they want to tank like what else is Mark Cuban supposed to say?
Michael Finley is nothing more than a beer holder for Luka. That’s all he is and all he will ever be known as.
Did Cuban leave his wife? Luka DID get traded from the Mavs last year???
I don’t have time for this negativity
Nobody will take AD with his salary let alone health. If you could any younger player and a 2nd i would take it. Ben simmons?😊
Trade lively and DLO plus a draft pick for Sabonis he's on the trading block
"SMOKESCREEN!!" 😂😂😂😂
A.D. will be gone by Christmas!!
Trade AD for Lamelo ball
AD shouldn’t have any reason to decline getting resigned at a discount! There will be no other team that knowingly wants him. He need to take that pay cut & get out the way of this organization! He good when he not hurt but he always hurt🤷🏾♂️!! Open up some options and get some strong junior players
flagg looks sus, don't let him babysit ya kids.
