Pistons Giving Detroit The Best Shot At Championship? | The Valenti Show with Rico

Oh golly gee, why am I a part of this? I don’t know cuz your agent was doing Scooby-Doo resets last week. Yeah. I don’t know if I want to be here, but I want to be here. But if I’m not here, then I won’t be here. But trade is a whole different thing. Okay, good talk. It’s real. So, hey, you know what? We’re going to do everything we can to so I can remain a tiger. Yeah, except that’s not happening. Guys, I think I’m going to move on. It’s really one of the two. We just gave you an hour on Scooble. If you want it, use odyssey.comreind. I want to move on because I want to bring something up. I think it’s really an interesting question. Maybe I’ve overestimated how interesting it is. But I for all the conversation about the Lions and talk about making a deep playoff run and and ultimately, you know, our our hope is we can make a Super Bowl. There’s another team in this town that while it is early, it is worth discussing. a team that’s won 11 straight games and a team that sits a top what looks like the opposite of the NFC in football. A team that sits at top of what looks like the wide openen and wholly mediocre Eastern Conference in the NBA. I want to ask this question. It’s the ultimate version of do the Lions have a better chance of making the NFC title game than the Pistons do of making the Eastern Conference Finals because I’m leaning no. I actually think it is an interesting discussion that the Pistons have a better shot to go to the ECF than the Lions do to get to championship Sunday. The East, we all we already knew, Rico, the Celtics were dead. No, Jason Tatum, no chance. Philly, no chance. Dead. Joel Embiid is in a wheelchair. Then you get to the Knicks. Then you get to Indiana. Hallebertton dead. Uh you get you go to Cleveland. Darius Garland dead. You You know who else is left? The Bucks are unserious. The Bulls are unserious. And largely everybody else is just varying forms of dog crap. So when you look at it, the Pistons play defense. The Pistons do it a different way. It’s not this three ball theater. And they take every night serious, which is more than I can say for what, three out of every four teams in that league. If I ask you right now, who are you more sure of to make the championship round? The Lions to make the NFC title game or the Pistons to make the Eastern Conference Finals? I actually lean Pistons. I’m with you. Really? I am. I thought you were going to laugh me out of the damn studio for this take. No, Mike. I I was ready for you to laugh me out and be like, “There you go again.” No. they’ve only played, you know, x amount of game. They play 15 games. I’m looking at them like, yeah, but they’re actually out there, as you said, they’re trying every night. It’s almost like it’s become a mission. They’re on what, an 11ame winning streak, and it’s like, okay, that’s cute and all, but now they’re doing it with what Deness Jenkins. And it’s like, who what? Like, they’re bringing up the G-League players and still getting it done. We haven’t seen this team really all together and it leads you to wonder like man if they keep playing this way is Tjan Langley going to make some type of a big trade at the deadline to really get this thing going. I agree. I just because this is the year like take advantage of it. It ain’t your fault that all of these other teams aren’t there but the road the road has been cleared. It’s your chance to make it to the Eastern Conference final. And look, maybe you become the Indiana Pacers last year in the finals going up against OKC. Didn’t really have a chance, but it’s not the question or no. This is not even the question. Can they make the ECF? And do they have a better chance of doing it than the Lions? Yeah, cuz I think it’s Yes. You’re going to get Jay Ivy back. You’re going to get Tobias Harris back. And what you said, you know what Rico’s message of the day is? Don’t be Scott Harris. Go to the deadline and make your team better. And guess what? You too could make could make a meaningful run. Yeah. I mean, he made a he made a deal last year that actually helped the team out. And I look at the Lions. I don’t think you’re gonna win the division, which means you may I don’t Green Bay being broken. I actually still think that that the Lions will get it done. Okay. Interesting. That’s a conversation because I think both teams are broken, Mike. And I guess it really boils down to Thanksgiving Day. If Green Bay somehow comes in here and wins again, that’s a twoame lead they have on you. And now I don’t think you’ll be able to overcome that. And then that means you’re gonna have to play, you know, a couple you’re gonna have to what? Win two on the road in order to get to the NFC title game. Lions are not losing that game. I don’t see it happening. They are not losing that game, Rico. They are not losing that game. Well, see, here’s the thing though, Rico. Whether they win the division or not, I think they do. But either way, you still have to play two other games if everything stays the same in Philly or probably in LA. So, I think that’s a tall task to say they make it all the way to the conference championship game. It’s It’s much easier route for the Pistons. It much easier route for the Pistons. Yeah, but the Pistons are also way ahead of schedule. It’s true. Very true. And they’re young and it’s not filled with superstars. They have superstar, but like I think it’s okay to have the Now, I didn’t put the wings in here and I don’t want the hockey nerds. I was my gonna say there’s another team in first place in the Atlantic. Are we selling them short? No, because it was just a week ago that they were about to fall back to 500 and we’re sitting here going, “Wow, they squandered the start. Now they’ve had another hot spurt.” The reality is the Eastern Conference in hockey is way more unforgiving than what the Pistons have. I even think the Eastern Conference in the NHL is tougher than the NFC and the NFL. For the for the Wings, I I think it’s a lot it’s more time. Plus, Kenny told me they’re going to get smashed tonight by the Isisles. I never never once said this. They’re actually heavy favorites. Actually, that does make me worry. They’re heavy favorites against the 248539797. So, tell me right here, right now, who do you have more belief in? Lions to make the NFC title game or Pistons to make the Eastern Conference Finals? Or guess what? Did you even know the Pistons season started? I mean, that’s reality as well. It is November 20th, but they’ve already played 11 games versus the Eastern Conference and have gone nine and two. They have dominated this conference and I think they’ll continue to do it. And they’re doing it with backup players, role players, guys. You’re like, “Huh? Who is that?” So, they did it in a game where Cade missed 31 shots. Yes. It was like Kade and the Kadets. Like, name the other people out there. And but but here’s the thing. They haven’t put together the full squad yet. Jay Nivy’s not back yet, so you get to add him. Like, yeah, this is going to be probably the team to beat in the East that I would be disappointed the way they’re playing right now if they’re not a one or a two seed in the East. Mike, it’s fair because and once again, take advantage of the fact that Philly, Boston, Indiana, they’re not going to be anything this year. No, I think the team to watch for and they they’ve gotten out to an uneven start, it’s going to be Orlando. They’re too talented. They’ve added some pieces. They have to gel. I just They’re eight and seven. Give them a little time. But you’re right. The upside of some of these other teams. No, I think the Knicks are the Knicks. The Cavs are the Cavs. Maybe Orlando joins the party and it’s you. Yeah, you get to rematch with the Knicks in the playoffs except for you get to advance. I could see that. But I I I would like to know what the people think. The The problem is if you’re a Lions fan, all the oxygen’s been taken up. You probably haven’t paid any attention to the Pistons. It’s just a sad reality. I’m hoping that Detroiters can put play. Rico, I said I’m hoping there more more more people interested in the boal boat than the Pistons right now. Which one? Doesn’t matter. Honestly, there’s just this is the problem. Football takes up all the oxygen. It does. But I think that when you look at this Yeah. I for the football people out there, uh, you if you want to see Eastern Conference Final or you may want to be back in the Pistons right now. That’s just interesting. Both could do it. But I I actually lean Pistons because I’m with Rico. This is like the the the This is the AL Central in baseball. The East this and again, I swear to God, if the Pistons don’t do anything at the deadline, my head will explode. You have an opportunity to make the NBA finals. You have an opportunity to get to the ECF, continue the growth of the franchise. Come on, man. Take advantage of this year.
