Nov. 20: Postgame Interviews

Justin, you guys had to like everything about that game until the 2-1 goal, didn’t you? Yeah, I mean, there’s a lot to like about how we played tonight, I thought. Um thought we were pretty limiting. We were we were moving, we were competing. Um energy was good. Uh just in that same situation where we got to find a way to to seal it. Um whether that’s keeping it a 2-1 game or getting a 3-1 uh another insurance goal there and having pressure that way. Um, obviously there’s overtime opportunities, but we have to in that situation, I think, and uh, you got a lead going into third period. You got to find ways to close it out. You were winning two to one. You weren’t passive. You feel like you’re still, you know, being aggressive in that situation. Sorry, our team. Yeah. Team, uh, after that went 2 to1, you weren’t really, you know, passive in that situation. Continued to play our game and it was good uh, good mentally of us. Obviously, we’ve been in in some tough situations and um sometimes you take those goals uh a little too heavy and and it affects the rest of your night, but I thought we responded well and still played the rest of the third period pretty solidly. Um yeah, it’s just disappointing. That’s one you really liked. Is that something you can build on? Yeah, we’re we’re definitely going to try and build off uh even in Toronto a little bit and then um tonight um overall I think we’ve liked our game last last couple, but um overtimes have been giving us fits this year and like I said if we got to keep building so we can find ways to to seal it if we got the lead in the third. What do you think it is about those two goal leads? I think that was the fifth time this season. Uh I don’t know. It’s tough. It’s uh um you got to you got to find ways to keep your foot on the gas. You can’t sit back. You can’t uh can’t get comfortable and play safe and play defensive uh and just hoping to win the game. You got to you got to put your foot down and and still be aggressive and um make them come 200 feet. There’s a lot of little parts of the game that that get amplified when you’re up to um everything gets a little harder. You got to u they’re pushing a little bit more. So you got to dig in and and just uh really try and limit them and and a lot of times that happens from sustaining some pressure in the ozone and through the neutral zone. Got to be a tough one obviously two up two nothing and then have it come down to an overtime loss. Just how tough is a game like this one especially when you guys try to get something going here? Yeah, it’s frustrating. Um you know I hate losing. Um I don’t know. We uh you know we work so hard and um you know we’re doing a lot of things right. we just can’t seem to to be uh you know getting wins. But um you know I think we’re making strides in the right direction um you know the wins are going to come. Is it a case of just waiting just one thing to go good for you guys right now and then kind of build on that or is it just a series of things that just start clicking right now? Yeah, I think so. I think once we you know see the puck go on the net and um get a couple wins, I think everybody’s mojo is going to, you know, get going and um confidence is going to go up and um but yeah, it’s it’s frustrating right now. A lot of times teams are guilty of sitting back when but you guys 2-1 third period you still were the aggressors. Do you see it that way? Yeah, exactly. Um you know we had some good chances. Um you know that one in the third was was uh you know it’s tough. I don’t know how it didn’t go in um that he made a good save and um but yeah it’s uh it’s frustrating. We uh you know like you said we’re working hard and um you know we’re pushing and uh it just doesn’t seem to be going our way right now. How did you see that overtime play kind of a tough play for you? Yeah. Um yeah, I just I gotta stop it. Um I don’t know. It’s tough. Uh yeah, I don’t know. Um overtimes and shootouts are are tough um you know, for us right now, but um you know, can’t do anything about it now. We just got to you know, keep uh you know, keep getting better at them and um you hopefully they go our way soon. That kind of change if anything what they were doing or what you guys weren’t doing after that two nothing lead. Um, oh, I I thought we kept getting quality chances, you know. Um, seemed like both goalies made a lot of quality saves on both ends of the ice. Um, you know, and I thought that uh we had opportunities to extend the lead, not only by one more, but probably two more. Games this one, just how tough are they for you when you’re trying to get things going for this team right now? Just how tough was a game like this one for you? Yeah, I mean, it’s uh we’re trying to scrape out two points and we haven’t been able to. Um, I I like our effort. I like the way we’re playing hard for each other. Uh, we got to find ways to extend leads. We got to find ways to close out games. Coach Jake Neighbors was back in the lineup tonight. How do you feel like you did overall? Well, I thought he did really well. Um, you know, for someone who’s been out for four weeks, came back in, had a great pass on our second goal, had the opportunity on a breakaway in the first period, and did a lot of subtle um little things getting pucks in, getting pucks out. money. Anything you guys could have done different on that Flyers first goal? You know, kill the play on the wall there. Anything that you Yeah. Um, you know, there’s a couple things we could have done better. Kill the play on the wall. Uh, we cannot once the guy has full possession, we cannot have second guy go out of position and give up uh space in the middle and we got to hold the net front there when we have two guys beat in the corner. And what about the second one? Kind of a loose puck and they’re able to get it back out to the point. Yeah, I mean those that’s one of those where we don’t get pucks out, we don’t uh communicate um and be the way out for each other and then it ends up going around and that’s a bomb, you know, like uh they kept coming um and they got that equalizer, but we got to be able to, you know, kill plays and get pucks out uh being uh with communication and support. just how many gut punch losses can you guys take and continue to bounce back like this. You had one the other night and you played well tonight. It just seems like they’re Yeah. I mean, but you know what that that’s the league. The league is hard and uh but we’re a resilient group. I like the way we’re competing. Our process has been good here. Uh we just need to finish more goals opportunities and we need to close out games. You know, we got to protect the middle of the ice a little bit better than what we’ve been doing in um really in important minutes. What’ you think of the D’vorski Buch Shenline? I thought they were our best offensive line tonight. They did a lot of quality things and that’s why they got rewarded with a lot of ice time.

Hear from Justin Faulk, Joel Hofer and Jim Montgomery after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Flyers.

  1. Buchnevich owns the worst contract in the league. If he won’t accept a trade, waive him. Please management, keep the retool going, we’re not ready to contend and Utah Anaheim Chicago Seattle San Jose are all leaving us in the dust. Trade Schenn Faulk and Buchnevich and tank for McKenna or Verhoeff. 🙏
