Paul Maurice, Panthers Postgame: Bobrovsky Pitches Shutout, Florida Beats New Jersey Devils
their second period. I thought um great energy, great speed, some things we’ve been working on, we could see. And then Sergey in the third for sure. I thought we came off it. Uh I you understand that nobody you’re in a tight game and we’re fighting for wins and uh a little tight there I thought in the third, but came out fine. Kind of even game. We missed the net a lot in the first period. That was the difference in the shots and then our second period was very very strong. What did you make of Jack’s NHL debut? Did good. you know, he was where he was supposed to be and had a good sense like I thought he showed a little confidence even the first his first play right as a turnover in the neutral zone which was kind of funny sort of um but that he there was a play to be made there. was trying to make the play and then he picked the puck up and made nice outlet pass for a chance almost on his first shift and then so I thought he had a good balance between you know there’s a lot of pressure on young it’s not just you want to perform for yourself there’s all these 19 other guys on the bench that played here a while that you want to you want to perform for those guys but I like their line I thought their line in the second period gave us that four four line rotation that allowed us to be pretty aggressive about needing wins that’s wins and four your last five how you like that your team has just kind of found ways to win differently in all these. Yeah, I I think that’s going to be the styles of the other teams are more pronounced right now against us. So, you notice the different styles they play because we can’t really kind of impose our will on them. So, we have to adapt and but a pretty good job with that. Sergey Babroski with a big bounceback game tonight. What did you think of his performance? Kind of feel that, don’t you? Like that’s been a bit of a story of the career and certainly for number one goalenders. If if you didn’t if you didn’t like one of Sergey’s games, you’re pretty sure you’re going to like the next one, right? He was right on tonight, right? And clean with everything they did. There’s a lot of danger that you’ll you know, we’ll watch that game on video and and you’ll be really impressed with the the little deflections to have the wonderful hands on that team and uh he made some great saves. How do you to go back to Jack for a second? How do you convince a kid that in a room with like seven future Hall of Famers in it like Yeah. this really you’re belong here. How do you calm him down or can you? No, you don’t want to. Right. Take it all in today. That’s what today is all about. First of all, he’s a champion at his level. So, he’s won. So, he understands that that uh all of the things and that’s his expectation is to be on a winning team. I think they’re supposed to be nervous. I think I think you’re so that you tell you get to five years from now tell the kid he’s getting his first game, don’t worry about it. I was real nervous, too. And that’s how this whole thing works. I I thought he handled that part really well. He didn’t look at there’s a huge speed adjustment here and this was a somewhat chaotic game. Not because of undisiplined routes, but both teams were knocking a lot of pucks out of the air. So, you’re moving one way. You know where you’re supposed to go. It gets knocked down. Things get shut down. It is a quick game for him to come in and play. I think every rep he gets, every game he gets, you’ll see the pattern start to emerge and he’ll move a little bit quicker. I I was I liked his line. So that’s the exciting part. It’s good to be at home and get a little more control about who they play against, but they won their game. Is it also kind of fitting that on a night when Jeff gets that very nice ceremony that it’s the defense that has to win? Yeah, right on. I thought that our swing and our lane closures on the way up the ice were as good as they’ve been all year. I thought for sure he was scoring the first goal, right? Did anybody else notice that? like on the video all the goals he was he scored the first you could hear the announcer it’s the first goal of the game I thought for sure he’s scoring first goal kind of let us down a little bit couple big PJs tonight as the penalty kill continues to play well for you guys yeah we’ve had one off night with it um and then probably from the Vegas game on much like our power play we’ve got some pairs that are going together now and and been really good but again it’s driven by the back end those those big fellas back there cover a lot of ice those big guys like Mola that first PK I He was out there for a minute and a half, got a couple there. Just his effort and getting across the ice to the boards this and and closing the gap and I thought that that’s the best I’ve seen Seth Jones move across ice and close have kills plays and that’s true of his last game. Thought those top four guys were the drivers. How do you assess where you are when you’re missing so many guys and you know this team’s going to look very different in a few months? How how do you sort of assess? Well, we got something really important that we’re trying to there’s two two things. One, we’re trying to add something to our game. We’re trying to create a and I thought the second period would give you an idea of what we’re trying to do. More speed on the offensive part of our game. The second thing is we got to learn how to win games without our best players because if you get to the playoffs and you lose a guy, that can’t be the end of your season. I’d like to think with what we’re going through now is teaching us. If a guy goes down, we have to adjust or adapt to another team. We know how to do that. Reinhardt just getting the first goal and the only goal just will give you guys so you can get to your game. I think I’ve seen that one against Edmonton. Isn’t that under the stick bar? Like it’s just so quick. I think his shots really underrated. He missed the net five times after two, but none of them were like I would have missed the net. You know, bury your head and shoot it as hard as you can and you miss it by five feet. He was putting it somewhere and just missed on it. So, it was an incredible shot. Really good uh release on that. So, not surprised. Okay. Thank you.

Can you please pass around the second microphone to the reporters or add a boom microphone on top so that we can hear the questions?
Good coaching is keeping this wounded team afloat👏
Good win, every point counts. The east is brutal. 9 teams within 1 point now.
