Absolutely bummed we lost, but Otter is just a god I guess.

  1. I’m guessing we’ve been on the other side of this at least a few times this season. Luck cuts both ways unfortunately

  2. At this point I expect the Canucks to lose to top 25% teams and wins against mid pack teams are just a bonus.

  3. Otter had a good game, but most of the xG we racked up (which is what the meter is based on) to push it this high was on the PP. We actually had less xG than Dallas did at 5v5.

If anything, the fact that we can dominate games territorially like we did in this one, or in the last Chicago game, and still lose, should make it clear that this team just doesn’t have the top-end juice to convert.

It’s the same reason that the Hurricanes have been accused of being ‘analytics frauds’ in the past: they dominate games territorially on a regular basis (which we absolutely do not), racking up xG… but despite that, keep running into a wall in the playoffs, because their lack of game-breaking talent gets exposed at the highest levels.

Dallas has gamebreaking scorers like Robertson, Rantanen, and Johnston, that can allow them to outperform their xG. We don’t, outside of maybe Pettersson. Brock is clutch, but he can’t create his own looks, and he’s not a catch-and-shoot guy either.

We just had a historic (14th highest in history) three game shooting % bender… and came out of it 1-1-1. That speaks volumes.

  4. It happens. We won or got points out of games we had no business getting not long time ago.
